5 Things to Know About the NYC Mayor-Elect – Hollywood Life

At 34 years old, Astoria-based Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani made history by clinching the mayoral race, outpacing former Governor Andrew Cuomo in the November 2025 election, and energizing a new wave of progressive voters. His platform — focused on rent control, free public transit, and universal childcare — drew national attention and positioned him as a bold challenger to the city’s political establishment.

So, who is Zohran Mamdani? Hollywood Life has rounded up five facts about him below.

Zohran Mamdani Was Born in Uganda With Indian Descent

Born in Uganda and raised, in part, in Cape Town, South Africa, Zohran’s family moved to New York City when he was 7 years old.

Zohran Mamdani Worked as a Foreclosure Prevention Counselor

Before getting into politics, Zohran worked as a foreclosure prevention and housing counselor in Queens, New York, to assist low-income families and homeowners of color who were facing eviction.

Zohran Mamdani Has Produced Rap Music

While juggling his political and public service career in New York, Zohran has also pursued another passion: rap music! Under several monikers, he’s composed and produced hip-hop songs. In 2016, he went by the name “Young Cardamom” and collaborated with Ugandan rapper HAB on an EP. Three years later, Zohran released a single titled “Nani” under the moniker “Mr. Cardamom.”

Zohran Mamdani Is Married

In early 2025, Zohran married Rama Duwaji, a Syrian artist.

Zohran Mamdani Endorsed His Mayoral Opponent, Brad Lander

During the Democratic primary, Zohran and New York City comptroller Brad Lander aligned themselves as political allies. Both strongly opposed Andrew’s return to city politics and even endorsed one another as part of a joint effort to block his path back to power. Appearing together on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in June 2025, the two spoke about their shared vision for a “more civilized future” in New York politics and vowed to support each other.

The race quickly grew heated in the final weeks before the primary. According to AMNY, Andrew accused Zohran of treating the mayor’s office as “a messenger’s job” and focusing only on “public relations,” while Zohran fired back, charging Andrew with “weaponizing this very real crisis and using billionaire money to spew hate.”

“He and other candidates have used words describing me as a monster as dangerous as being at the gates, language that is more befitting of a beast than a person,” Zohran claimed about Andrew.

Jim Curtis built a successful platform in the health and wellness industry before meeting Jennifer Aniston. The Friends alum’s boyfriend, with whom she went Instagram official in late 2025, is a hypnotherapist, a coach and an author. Naturally, Jen’s fans are curious about her new love and are wondering how he makes a living. After all, he’s not in the spotlight like she is. Below, keep reading to find out where Jim’s net worth stands and how he makes his money today.

What Does Jim Curtis Do for Work?

As previously noted, Jim is a hypnotherapist, a coach and an author, having published the books Shift: Quantum Manifestation Guide and The Stimulati Experience: 9 Skills for Getting Past Pain, Setbacks, and Trauma to Ignite Health and Happiness.

As seen on his website, Jim was inspired by his own health struggles to pursue a career in holistic wellness.

“After years of living with a chronic, misdiagnosed illness and emotional trauma, he found a way to heal that honored both the body and the soul,” Jim’s site indicates. “His work is rooted in that experience — and in the belief that no matter how stuck or broken you may feel, transformation is always possible.”

What Is Jim Curtis’ Net Worth?

Jim’s exact net worth is currently unclear, but multiple outlets have reported that it lies between $1 million and $5 million.

How Did Jim Curtis Make His Money?

Jim built his net worth thanks to royalties from his published books, the money he earns from coaching sessions, speaking at various events and providing courses with his wellness platform.

“My own illness and disability forced me to confront the limited beliefs, disconnection, and trauma that were keeping me sad, sick, and alone,” Jim’s website indicates. “Through many powerful tools, including hypno-realization, I not only transformed my physical health, depression, and relationships, but I’ve also helped thousands of others break free to create an entirely new reality full of connection, community and love.”

Before he found his passion, Jim worked on Wall Street for two years. During a 2018 interview with Fast Company, Jim opened up about the symptoms that his illness caused in addition to his past job.

“It was unknown how they started, but I very rapidly became ill and soon had trouble walking,” Jim explained, referring to the lesions that doctors found on his spinal cord when he was 22. “My illness was telling me something about the perception of who I was, [which to me] was this macho guy; I was an athlete, and I had a plan to work on Wall Street, so I did it.”

Admitting that his Wall Street job “couldn’t have been a worse choice” for him, Jim explained that it was “super high-stress, which is inflammatory and devastating for a condition like mine. It increased symptoms of fatigue and pain, and it brought on new ones like IBS [irritable bowel syndrome] and other things I couldn’t control.”

What Is Jennifer Aniston’s Net Worth?

Jennifer Aniston currently boasts a net worth of $320 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

How Did Jim Curtis Meet Jennifer Aniston?

It’s still unclear how Jim and Jennifer met, but they were first spotted together in July 2025, and she went public with their romance in November of that year via Instagram. Alongside a black-and-white photo, Jen called Jim, “my love,” in her caption while wishing him a “Happy Birthday.”

There’s a huge shift happening on the red carpet, and it’s making Hollywood sparkle bigger, brighter, and more ethically than ever before. Forget the old rules; today’s stars are shaping new ideas of what luxury can represent. Sustainability and luxury can shine side by side.

Why the conscious switch? These diamonds closely resemble mined diamonds in brilliance and appearance, while typically being more affordable and sourced through controlled, traceable processes. This means you can finally get that striking, camera-ready look that balances affordability and ethics.

Enter Ouros Jewels. The brand takes a fresh approach to modern luxury, offering true fine jewelry with certified lab-grown diamonds. Read on to see how you can shop the biggest celebrity trends in ethical style.

A New Take on Diamond Quality: Why Celebs Choose Lab-Grown

The trend isn’t just about price; it’s about making a statement that aligns with modern values. Lab-grown diamonds are quickly becoming the new industry norm for a reason:

Perfectly Real: Lab-grown diamonds are chemically, physically, and visually identical to mined stones and graded by top labs (IGI/GIA). Celebrities enjoy unmatched brilliance and quality without compromise, making them a seamless red-carpet choice.

Ethical Luxury: Crafted in controlled environments, lab-grown diamonds are conflict-free and eco-friendly, letting stars wear high-end jewelry responsibly while showcasing bold, conscience-driven style.

Maximum Value: Lab-grown diamonds often allow buyers to choose larger or higher-quality stones for a similar budget, giving celebrities the freedom to experiment with styles and cuts without repeating looks, all while embracing ethical luxury.

No Scandals: Unlike some mined diamonds, which have historically raised ethical and sourcing concerns, lab-grown stones let celebrities shine responsibly without risking controversy.

Has Sydney Sweeney Commented on American Eagle Jeans Ad Controversy? – Hollywood Life

by jummy84 November 5, 2025
written by jummy84

Sydney Sweeney appeared in an American Eagle campaign titled “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans,” and the internet has been in flames ever since. Dropping in July 2025, the campaign featured the 27-year-old actress advertising the new denim line, and it divided social media over race and beauty standards. Now that American Eagle has addressed the debate, has Sydney?

Below, get an update on Sydney’s reaction to the criticism.

Why Did the Sydney Sweeney American Eagle Ad Spark Criticism?

There are several reasons why the “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans” ad created a social media firestorm. People accused American Eagle of glamorizing racist rhetoric by using the term, “great genes,” interchangeably with “great jeans.” Since Sydney is a white, blonde actress, critics claimed the advertisement favored the blue-eyed, blonde-haired, white female image rather than a woman of color.

Others slammed AE for sexualizing the actress in its campaign. Sydney is seen in various videos getting dressed with the advertised jeans and leaning into the hood of a car, with the camera focusing on her figure.

Numerous social media commenters threatened to never buy from AE again, but others have defended the brand while blasting the critics for turning the campaign into an argument. Conservative media personalities have also slammed the “radical left” for politicizing the ad.

Has Sydney Sweeney Commented on the American Eagle Jeans Ad?

Yes, Sydney broke her silence on the matter during a November 2025 interview with GQ.

“I did a jean ad. I mean, the reaction definitely was a surprise, but I love jeans,” the actress said, adding that it was “surreal” to see Donald Trump and JD Vance support her jeans campaign.

Nevertheless, Sydney didn’t see the full scope of the scrutiny her ad was under, and she attributed that to her hectic filming schedule.

“I kind of just put my phone away,” she said. “I was filming every day. I’m filming Euphoria, so I’m working 16-hour days and I don’t really bring my phone on set, so I work and then I go home and I go to sleep. So, I didn’t really see a lot of [the backlash].”

This wasn’t the first time that Sydney responded to criticism. While training for her highly physical role in the upcoming Christy Martin biopic, Sydney was bullied by social media trolls over her body. In response to the comments, Sydney shared an Instagram video in December 2024 featuring screenshots of derogatory online remarks followed by clips of her working out in preparation to portray Christy. She did not include a caption with the post.

What Did American Eagle Say About Its ‘Great Jeans’ Ad?

About a week after being mauled with frustrated comments online, American Eagle released a statement on social media defending its advertisement.

“‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story,” AE insisted in its statement. “We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”

How the Government Shutdown Could Affect Your Holiday Flights – Hollywood Life

How the Government Shutdown Could Affect Your Holiday Flights – Hollywood Life

by jummy84 November 5, 2025
written by jummy84

As the U.S. government shutdown stretches into its fifth week, millions of travelers are beginning to feel uneasy about their upcoming holiday flights. With hundreds of thousands of federal workers furloughed, including TSA agents and FAA staff, airports across the country are already reporting longer lines, reduced staffing, and growing uncertainty ahead of Thanksgiving. Sean Duffy, the U.S. Transportation Secretary, said that if the impasse continues into next week, parts of U.S. airspace may have to be shut down to keep the system safe.

While airlines insist that flights will continue as scheduled, experts warn that the ripple effects of the shutdown could soon cause widespread delays, slower security screenings, and potential disruptions just as the busiest travel season of the year begins. The U.S. Travel Association echoed those concerns in an open letter, warning that the ongoing shutdown is “likely to significantly suppress travel demand and spending” just as the Thanksgiving rush approaches.

Here’s what to know about how the ongoing government shutdown could impact your holiday travel plans.

How Long Has the Government Shutdown Been Going On For?

As of November 4, 2025, the U.S. government has been shut down for 34 days, making it one of the longest in modern history. Lawmakers have yet to reach a budget agreement, leaving hundreds of thousands of federal employees furloughed and critical services stalled just as the holiday travel season begins.

What’s the Longest Government Shutdown in History?

The longest U.S. government shutdown took place from December 22, 2018, to January 25, 2019, lasting 35 days during the Trump administration. With the current 2025 shutdown nearing that record, concerns are growing that history could soon repeat itself if Congress doesn’t reach a deal.

Are Flights Still Going During the Government Shutdown?

Yes, commercial flights are still operating, but the shutdown is straining the system. While air traffic controllers and TSA agents are working without pay, staffing shortages and low morale have already caused sporadic delays and longer security lines at major airports.

How Will the Shutdown Affect My Flight?

If the shutdown continues, travelers could face longer security wait times, reduced customer service, and potential disruptions over Thanksgiving and Christmas. Experts warn that extended furloughs could also slow FAA safety inspections and training programs, all of which could ripple across the busy holiday travel season.

What They Are, How They Work, and When They Help – Hollywood Life

by jummy84 November 5, 2025
written by jummy84

If you’ve heard the buzz about oral probiotics, lozenges or melts that deliver beneficial bacteria to your mouth, you’re not alone. The idea is simple: just as gut probiotics can nudge your intestinal microbiome toward balance, oral probiotics aim to support a healthy oral microbiome—the community of microbes on your tongue, teeth, gums, and cheeks. A healthier oral ecosystem has been linked to fresher breath, more resilient gums, and less opportunistic overgrowths like Candida (oral thrush). But which claims are supported by research, and what should you look for in a product and delivery format?

This guide distills the current science, anchored in a peer-reviewed overview of probiotics in oral health and mechanisms of action. They also bring in clinical trials and authoritative medical sources to give you practical, science-backed answers to the top questions people ask about oral probiotics.

The Oral Microbiome in Plain English

Your mouth is home to hundreds of bacterial species, and not all are harmful. In a balanced state, beneficial species help keep acid-producing, odor-producing, and inflammatory microbes in check. Disruptions such as dry mouth, high-sugar diets, smoking, certain medications, or overuse of antiseptic rinses can tilt the balance toward dysbiosis. That may show up as bad breath, increased plaque, gingival inflammation, or yeast overgrowth. Targeted probiotics aim to compete for adhesion sites and nutrients, produce antimicrobial byproducts (like bacteriocins or hydrogen peroxide), and modulate local immune responses.

What Counts as an Oral Probiotic?

A true probiotic is a live microorganism that, when given in adequate amounts, confers a health benefit on the host. In oral formulations, three key factors matter:

  1. Strain specificity: Benefits are tied to particular strains (for example, Streptococcus salivarius K12/M18, Weissella cibaria CMU, or Lactobacillus reuteri strains). Labels should list genus, species, and strain—not just “Lactobacillus spp.” —as strain identity is critical for predicting effect.
  2. Dose: Many clinical studies use daily doses in the range of 10⁸–10⁹ CFU, but what really matters is how many live cells manage to adhere and persist on oral surfaces during contact time.
  3. Delivery format: Lozenges, melts, or chewables that linger in the mouth are preferred over swallowed capsules. The goal is direct contact with oral tissues and the salivary pellicle so that the microbes can colonize or exert local effects before being swallowed.

What Does the Evidence Say?

Halitosis (Bad Breath)

A randomized controlled trial of W. cibaria CMU tablets found significant reductions in volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs—the gases behind bad breath) and improved subjective breath scores.
Evidence for S. salivarius K12 is more mixed. Some trials show VSC reductions, but others (especially in tongue-coating halitosis) found no effect unless tongue cleaning was done first—suggesting that mechanical debridement may create “space” for probiotic colonization.

Takeaway: Oral probiotics can help some people with halitosis, particularly when combined with good hygiene. W. cibaria CMU has promising RCT support; K12 may require tongue cleaning first to be effective.

Gingival Health and Plaque Ecology

However, probiotics should be considered a supplement to, not a replacement for, brushing, flossing, and professional care.

Oral Candidiasis (Thrush)

A 2019 meta-analysis and systematic review showed that probiotic use was associated with reduced odds of oral candidiasis, especially in certain populations such as denture wearers. The evidence is more variable in immunocompetent individuals and in younger populations, but overall suggests a supportive role rather than a primary treatment.

The Tricky Part Most People Miss: Viability and Adhesion

EZ Melts
Courtesy of: EZ Melts

A 2023 examination of commercial oral probiotic products warned that many contain fewer live cells than labeled, and that lyophilized (freeze-dried) bacteria may adhere poorly to oral surfaces until they rehydrate. Reactivating lyophilized cells before use improved adhesion in lab studies, which implies formulation and contact time matter a lot in real life.

Because of that, lozenges or melts that linger in the mouth for 1–5 minutes can better support rehydration and interaction with oral tissues. Some evidence suggests that avoiding rinsing for 10–15 minutes post-dose helps the probiotic establish itself.

Safety and Who Should Be Cautious

In healthy individuals, oral probiotics are generally well tolerated (mild GI shifts or transient effects). But those who are severely immunocompromised, critically ill, or have central venous catheters should consult a clinician before use. Pregnant or nursing individuals and parents considering use in children should also discuss with their healthcare provider.

How to Choose an Oral Probiotic

  • Select products with detailed strain IDs (for example W. cibaria CMU, S. salivarius K12/M18, or L. reuteri with known strain designations).
  • Prefer delivery formats for oral contact (lozenges, melts, chewables).
  • Check CFU at expiry, not just at manufacture. Avoid vague “proprietary blends” without clear strain breakdown.
  • Support with proper technique: tongue scrape first, dissolve slowly, avoid rinsing immediately, and use daily for at least 2–4 weeks to assess benefit.

How to Use Oral Probiotics (Step by Step)

  1. Brush, floss, and gently scrape your tongue.
  2. Place the lozenge or melt on your tongue or gumline and let it fully dissolve (don’t chew and swallow prematurely).
  3. Avoid eating or rinsing for 10–15 minutes so the probiotic has contact time.
  4. Use once or twice daily depending on the product; reassess efficacy after 2–4 weeks.

What to Expect (and What Not)

  • Halitosis: Some users notice fresher breath within 1–2 weeks, though results vary depending on hygiene and underlying causes.
  • Gingival Comfort: Benefits are typically modest and additive to standard care.
  • Thrush: Probiotics may reduce Candida burden in supportive contexts (e.g., denture wearers) but are not a substitute for antifungal therapy if clinically indicated.

Top FAQs About Oral Probiotics

Which probiotic is best for oral thrush?

There isn’t a single best strain for everyone, but clinical evidence suggests Weissella cibaria and Lactobacillus reuteri can help reduce Candida overgrowth, especially in adults and denture wearers. Probiotics should be viewed as supportive, not a replacement for antifungal treatment.

Do oral probiotics work?

Yes, when matched to the right purpose. Research shows they can improve breath freshness, support gum health, and help maintain a balanced oral microbiome. The most consistent evidence is for halitosis reduction and adjunctive gum-health support.

Can you use oral probiotics as a suppository?

No. Oral probiotics are formulated for use in the mouth — their flavorings, excipients, and dosage are designed for oral contact, not for vaginal or rectal use.

Where can you buy oral probiotics?

They’re widely available at pharmacies, dental offices, and reputable online retailers. Choose brands that list strain names (like S. salivarius K12/M18 or W. cibaria CMU), guarantee CFU counts through expiration, and specify “oral microbiome” or “breath support” on the label.

Are oral probiotics effective?

They can be effective as part of a consistent oral-care routine. Studies show measurable benefits for halitosis and modest improvements in gingival inflammation when used daily for several weeks.

Can probiotics cause oral thrush?

No. Well-formulated probiotics are generally not associated with causing thrush and have been studied for their potential role in supporting a healthy microbial balance.

Do probiotics help with oral thrush?

Yes, as an adjunct. Probiotics may lower Candida counts and help rebalance the oral microbiome after antifungal therapy, especially in populations prone to recurrence.

Are oral probiotics good for you?

Yes. They can promote fresher breath, healthier gums, and microbial balance when used regularly alongside good hygiene. Their benefits are mild to moderate but well-supported in emerging research.

Are oral probiotics safe?

For healthy adults, they’re generally safe and well-tolerated. Mild temporary digestive changes may occur, but serious side effects are rare.

Are oral probiotics safe during pregnancy?

Most evidence suggests they’re safe when taken as directed, but it’s best to consult your healthcare provider before starting any supplement during pregnancy.

Bottom Line

Oral probiotics are not miracle cures, but when the right strain is matched to the right purpose, they can serve as useful adjuncts. For breath control, W. cibaria CMU and S. salivarius K12/M18 have the strongest human data; for general oral ecology and gingival support, strains like L. reuteri show promise. Choose formulations designed to dissolve slowly in the mouth, allow adequate contact time, and always pair with proper oral hygiene. Check for transparent labeling (strain + CFU through expiry) and quality assurance.

The Selah Center

The Secret Wellness Escape for Hollywood Insiders – Hollywood Life

by jummy84 November 5, 2025
written by jummy84

Wellness in Southern California is known for trends such as juice cleanses, infrared saunas, and weeklong detox retreats that promise results but often fall short. Finding something data-driven yet restorative for high-performing professionals and creatives has remained elusive. That search has finally led Hollywood insiders to Carlsbad’s newest wellness secret, The Selah Center, where data-driven detox meets luxury-level restoration.

Founded by Detox Nation CEO Sinclair Kennally, CNHP, CNC, The Selah Center offers more than high-end treatments. It is a sanctuary where science, comfort, and community meet to create a new self-care experience. Visitors come not just to relax but to reconnect with their bodies and gain tools to heal from the inside out.

Why Wellness Needed a Reset

The health and wellness industry has exploded with promises, but most options still leave people feeling like passive participants. “I founded Detox Nation to lead people away from symptom bandages and into sustainable healing,” says Kennally.

For many people, traditional approaches to managing chronic symptoms through medication or one-size-fits-all wellness trends have lost their appeal. What’s missing is personalization—the ability to uncover the root causes of fatigue, stress, and inflammation instead of masking them.

The Selah Center was designed to close that gap, offering a path toward lasting, data-informed healing.

A New Kind of Detox Experience in Carlsbad

Opened October 25 in Carlsbad, The Selah Center brought Detox Nation’s protocol-based, scientific methodology to heal the body inside out in a setting that feels more like a private retreat than a clinic. Every element of the space was designed to help guests reconnect with their bodies on a deeper level. Advanced modalities such as cold laser therapy, lymphatic compression, and neurofeedback support detox, healing, and regenerative performance, while curated experiences like sound baths and gentle light therapy invite the nervous system to reset. The result is an environment that feels warm, sensory, and alive—an intentional departure from the sterile feel of traditional wellness centers.

Where Biohacking Meets Mindful Healing

“I understand the complexities of frustration and skepticism when nothing seems to fix things,” says Kennally. While Selah’s spa-like setting may draw people in, its science-backed protocols keep them coming back. The goal is to remove what disrupts the body’s natural healing process so guests can experience genuine, lasting restoration.

Practitioners at The Selah Center offer personalized wellness consultations. This tailored care creates customized roadmaps that go far deeper than a typical spa treatment menu. It is where technology meets intuition, and even the busiest Hollywood insiders find real recovery.

Creating Connection in San Diego’s Growing Wellness Scene

Healing works best in community, and The Selah Center was built to make that possible. The space has welcomed wellness professionals, entrepreneurs, and anyone seeking a deeper connection on their healing journey. Selah has become the perfect location for social wellness, bringing individuals together from its Nervous System Grotto to its Gas Bar for oxygen therapies.

Beyond its therapies, Selah continues to foster genuine conversation and shared discovery, helping visitors feel seen, supported, and part of something larger than themselves.

The Intersection of Science and Self-Care

The Selah Center represents a shift toward intentional, data-informed self-care in an industry crowded with quick fixes. It offers guests a place to quiet the noise and reconnect with their own bodies. Each visitor is guided by experienced practitioners, supported by advanced wellness technology, and surrounded by a community that believes true healing begins from within.

More than a destination, The Selah Center has shaped a quiet movement that redefines what wellness looks like in Southern California.
