Lena Goes Rogue Like Danny in Case That Gets Personal in Episode 7

by jummy84 December 6, 2025
written by jummy84

What To Know

  • Lena Silver becomes personally invested in a case involving a murderous senator and struggles with balancing her instincts and proper police procedure.
  • With Danny Reagan’s guidance, Lena resists the urge to cut corners to solve her long-standing “white whale” case.
  • The case strengthens Lena and Danny’s partnership and highlights Danny’s growing attachment to Boston.

[Warning: The following contains MAJOR spoilers for Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 7, “Baggage Claim.”]

Lena Silver’s (Sonequa Martin-Green) “white whale” case resurfaced in Boston Blue‘s December 5 episode. Her feelings about the case made her hellbent on catching the killer, similar to how Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) would make cases personal on Blue Bloods. Danny had to teach Lena what he learned at the NYPD, which was that when you care so deeply about a case, it matters even more to solve it by following police procedures down to the letter.

Lena and Danny attended a gala in disguise to get into the same room as their suspect, Senator Lowell (Gabriel Burrafato). Lena was seething with anger when questioning the politician, revealing they had a history. During her first years as a detective in Boston, Lena suspected that Lowell murdered a sex worker. She was right, but she didn’t investigate properly, allowing him to slip through the cracks and get away with murder. It took Lena years to trust her instincts again and rebuild her credibility. There was no way she was letting him get away this time.

Lowell was suspected of killing a woman he encountered in a hotel, who wound up dead, her body stuffed in a suitcase and left in a public park to be discovered by Sean (Mika Amonsen) and Jonah (Marcus Scribner) while on the job. Lena knew in her gut that Lowell killed Claire, and her hunger to bring him to justice made her want to cut corners. Danny kept her on the straight and narrow, but eventually she snapped, asking why he was “questioning every instinct” she had.

“Why don’t you trust me?” she pressed. “I need your help, Danny. And I thought you were the kind of partner who would understand and who would stand with me. Was I wrong about you?”

“Of course, I trust you. And more importantly. I believe in you. You think I would be in this city if I didn’t? Sean or no Sean, I would be out of here,” Danny replied. “I also happen to believe that you are 100 percent correct about Senator Lowell. I’ve been down this road many times. We have to be smarter than him, so when we nail that son of a bitch, we nail him for good. That’s what the victims deserve. And maybe you could trust me a little bit, too.”

Lena grit her teeth and worked with Danny to find the evidence they needed. They finally found the real crime scene, as well as damning photos of Lowell taken by Claire, and his hair at the scene of the crime. They brought the crooked senator to the station for one last question before he was arrested.

“How does it feel to know that after all this time escaping justice, you are finally going away for good?” Lena said while staring him down.

This case strengthened the bond between Danny and Lena, proving that they make each other better as partners. Danny’s attachment to Boston is growing by the day. How will that impact the future of his relationship with Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez), who wants to keep on living in New York? Boston Blue was renewed for Season 2 on Wednesday, December 3, so the show has plenty of time to figure that out.

“You make extortion sound like progress.” Netflix has revealed the official trailer for The Abandons, yet another new western series set in the old days of America. When a corrupt force of wealth and power covets the lands of a group of diverse and atypical families and tries to drive them out, they must pursue their Manifest Destiny. The Abandons is created by writer Kurt Sutter and is set in the 1850s in Washington. Two families led by powerful matriarchs — one wealthy, one poor but deeply loyal — battle for supremacy on the unforgiving frontier. Talented actors Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson go head-to-head in this gritty and cinematic storytelling of the haves and have nots. The Abandons premieres in December streaming on Netflix if you want to watch them battle & bicker. The full ensemble includes Nick Robinson, Diana Silvers, Lamar Johnson, Natalia del Riego, Lucas Till, Aisling Franciosi, Toby Hemingway, Michael Greyeyes, Ryan Hurst, Katelyn Wells, Clayton Cardenas, Elle-Maija Tailfeathers, Brían F. O’Byrne, Marc Menchaca, Patton Oswalt, Michael Ornstein, Jack Doolan, Michiel Huisman, Haig Sutherland, and Sarah White. Have a look.

Washington Territory – 1854 – The matriarchs of two very different families — one of wealth and privilege bound by blood, the other a found family of orphans and outcasts bound by love and necessity — find their fates linked by two crimes, an awful secret, a star-crossed love, and a piece of land with silver underneath. The collision echoes the American struggle of the haves and have-nots, in a place just beyond the reach of justice. The Abandons is created and written by producer / screenwriter Kurt Sutter, writer on Southpaw, “The Shield”, “Sons of Anarchy”, “The Bastard Executioner”, and “Mayans M.C.” previously. With episodes directed by Otto Bathurst and Stephen Surjik. Produced by Sutter Ink. Filmed mostly in Calgary, Canada. Sonequa Martin-Green Talks Danny and Lena’s Future as Partners, Possible Romance for Lena

What To Know

  • In the latest Boston Blue episode, Danny Reagan decides to stay and work in Boston to be closer to his son Sean, solidifying his commitment after Sean’s hospitalization in the series premiere.
  • Sonequa Martin-Green teases how it will go for Danny and Lena now that he’s staying.
  • The star also shares the romance she’s hoping to see onscreen going forward.

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 2 “Teammates.”]

Even though Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) is still on loan from the NYPD to the Boston Police Department, if there were any doubts that Danny wouldn’t stay in Boston to hang with his son Sean (Mika Amonsen), that ended in this week’s episode. Seeing Sean comatose in the Boston Blue series premiere had really helped seal the deal. Not that Danny will ever lose his love of the Mets as he says to his son leaving the actual Fenway Park after a game: “It’s your first day on the job and the Mets win over the stinking Red Sox!” (In the episode, he is forced into a Red Sox shirt.)

There was more rivalry to come when Danny tries to convince Sean to be dominant in his partnership with fellow rookie Jonah Silver (Marcus Scribner), who’s also the younger brother of Det. Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), his temporary partner, while Lena makes sure that Jonah “won’t get stuck in the sidekick zone.” Naturally, they each try to be Batman and not Robin, which causes a bit of friction like who chooses the music in the squad car, but also Jonah not being in position when they tried to catch a perp. As this is a Blue Bloods spinoff, they are fast friends at the episode’s end.

Though there will be tussles along the way no doubt, Danny and Lena, a.k.a. Brooklyn and Beantown, bonded almost immediately. Martin-Green says in the video above, “Apparently there’s a crazy feud between New York and Boston. I didn’t know! It’s fascinating that you have this Bostonian who played a New Yorker, going back to Boston and pretending he didn’t like Boston despite it’s where he’s from. It’s funny and Donnie laughs about it, too.”

The main storyline in the second episode brought Danny and Lena even closer, when the two detectives are pulled into the investigation of murdered whistleblower Winston Ballard, who DA Mae Silver (Gloria Reuben) was working with. The question was what happened to the whistleblower’s protective detail. The answer: One left to take care of a sick kid and the other was paid off by the eventual killer.

Various criminals wanted to prevent Ballard’s testimony about a Ponzi scheme but there were more deaths to come when the wealthy gangster who ran the scheme with Ballard got shot through a window right in front of Danny and Lena, ”the second person who died in my arms this week,” as Danny put it, not happily. In the end, a victim of the gangster and whistleblower’s who lost all his money killed them while his sister, Ballard’s widow, Naomi, was arrested as an accessory to murder.

The episode ends with Danny’s decision to try living and working in Boston. As he tells Sean, he and his girlfriend, Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez), will figure things out, “and the family understands.”

Does that mean that Danny and Lena are permanent partners going forward? Martin-Green carefully says, with a laugh, “Danny Reagan transition from the NYPD to the BPD is a very interesting storypoint, and we will be exploring it.”

There might be another interesting romance in the future, says Martin-Green. Her real-life husband, Kenric Green, plays DA Silver’s chief of staff, introduced in this episode. The couple, says the actress, both tease maybe their characters should get together. “We will see them together in Episode 8,” she shares.

Watch the full video interview above for more from Sonequa Martin-Green.

Two widowed matriarchs battle to keep their families alive in Netflix’s The Abandons, a new Western drama starring Gillian Anderson and Lena Headey. The series was created by Mayans M.C.‘s Kurt Sutter, but he left the show in October 2024. Netflix shared the first photos from the season and revealed the premiere date on Wednesday, October 1.

The Abandons is set in Washington Territory in 1854. Here’s how Netflix describes the show: “The matriarchs of two very different families — one of wealth and privilege bound by blood, the other a found family of orphans and outcasts bound by love and necessity — find their fates linked by two crimes, an awful secret, a star-crossed love, and a piece of land with silver underneath. The collision echoes the American struggle of the haves and have-nots, in a place just beyond the reach of justice.”

It’s been about one year since The Abandons last got an update. Here, we’ve compiled the bevy of new information Netflix shared on October 1, as well as the first-look photos.

What is The Abandons about?

“This first chapter of The Abandons is a classic American story — the frontier, two families — both at war and in love with each other, a battle over who owns the land and who makes the rules,” executive producer Chris Keyser told Tudum. “Smack in the middle of murder and revenge and a bit of illicit romance, we get to explore questions we never seem to get away from: What makes a family? How do you stay good in a bad world? And would you change who you are and what you believe in to protect what you love? But, in this case, we do it all through the eyes of Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson, as two widowed matriarchs battling to survive. And that, as they say, is really something to watch.”

The series was filmed in Calgary.

When does The Abandons premiere?

The Abandons will get a full-season drop on Thursday, December 4.

How many episodes are in The Abandons?

The Abandons consists of seven episodes.

Who is in The Abandons cast?

Anderson plays Constance Van Ness, the wealthy widow, and Headey plays Fiona Nolan, the mother of the found family. Based on the photos, there could be a forbidden romance forming between Nick Robinson‘s Elias Teller and Aisling Franciosi‘s Trisha Van Ness. There’s also a group called the Redmask Bandits, shown in a photo from the first episode below.

In addition to Constance and Trisha, the Van Ness family features Lucas Till as Garret Van Ness and Toby Hemingway as Willem Van Ness.

Additional cast includes Diana Silvers as Dahlia Teller, Lamar Johnson as Albert Mason, Natalia del Riego as Lilla Belle, Ryan Hurst as Miles Alderton, Michiel Huisman as Xavier Roache, Michael Greyeyes, Katelyn Wells, Clayton Cardenas, Elle-Maija Tailfeathers, Brían F. O’Byrne, Marc Menchaca, Patton Oswalt, Michael Ornstein, Jonathan Koensgen, Jack Doolan, Haig Sutherland, and Sarah White.

It’s executive produced by Keyser, Robert Askins, Stephen Surjik, Otto Bathurst, Emmy Grinwis, and Jon Paré.
