‘Zootopia 2’ Leads the Pack with $38.5 Million

by jummy84 November 29, 2025
written by jummy84

Theater owners are surely giving thanks to “Zootopia 2” and “Wicked: For Good,” which delivered a much-needed one-two punch to the Black Friday box office.

Disney’s “Zootopia 2” led the pack with a stellar $38.5 million from 4,000 domestic theaters on Friday. That brings the North American count to $97.7 million since its Wednesday debut. Box office prophets predict the animated sequel will gross upwards of $155 million over the first five days of release. While unable to dethrone “Moana 2” as the highest Thanksgiving week earner of all time ($225 million over five days), anything above $150 million would slot “Zootopia 2” well over Turkey Day power grossers like “Frozen II” ($125 million over five days) and “Hunger Games: Catching Fire” ($109 million in the same time frame).

Directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard, “Zootopia 2” sees the return of unlikely police duo Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) as they investigate the presence of a reptilian outsider (Ke Huy Quan) in their mammal-centric metropolis.

In second place is “Wicked: For Good,” which took home $26 million in its second Friday at the domestic box office from 4,115 theaters. That makes for a 62% decline from its $68.6 million debut last Friday. Jon M. Chu’s musical sequel has grossed $226.6 million at the domestic box office so far, and is projected to land somewhere around $270 million at the end of the five-day holiday frame.

“Eternity,” a fantasy romance from A24, opened in sixth place on Friday, earning an estimated $1.1 million from 1,348 locations. That brings the domestic total to around $3.1 million since Wednesday. From director David Freyne, the film stars Elizabeth Olsen and Miles Teller as a married couple who reunite in the afterlife, only to have their relationship challenged by an old flame, played by Callum Turner.

In its sophomore outing, “Rental Family,” starring Brendan Fraser as an expat actor working in Japan as a stand-in father for a young girl, landed in seventh place $800,000 in North America, according to rival estimates. The Searchlight Pictures release sat well with critics and audiences (86% on Rotten Tomatoes and “A” grade on CinemaScore), which could help earnings through the holiday season.

Chloé Zhao’s awards hopeful “Hamnet” opened in a limited release on Wednesday before it goes wide in December. The film earned $300,000 domestically from 119 locations. Starring Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley as William and Agnes Shakespeare, respectively, the film chronicles the creation of the tragedy of “Hamlet.” The film is expected to compete for 11 categories come Oscar time, including best picture, best director, best actress and best actor.

At No. 3 was “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t,” the third installment in the magical heist series. The film earned an estimated $2.6 million domestically on Friday. The film looks to add $10 million through Sunday for a North American total of $49 million. “Predator: Badlands” took fourth, hunting down $1.8 million domestically on Friday. The film has earned $82 million in North America so far. Finally, in fifth place was Edgar Wright’s dystopian action comedy “The Running Man,” which took home $980,000 on Friday. The film should hit $34 million in North America by Sunday.

Neurologist warns against these 3 simple habits that can damage your brain: ‘Wearing headphones to bed leads to…’

by jummy84 November 11, 2025
written by jummy84

Brain health is a crucial element of your overall wellbeing, as your brain controls all bodily functions and mental processes, including movement, thoughts, emotions, and memory, among others.

If you are one of those people who wear headphones to bed, you should know that loud sounds can damage the hair cells in your inner ear and over time can raise your risk of hearing loss and dementia. (Freepik)

While diet, exercise, and rest are important components of maintaining brain health, your lifestyle habits also significantly impact your brain’s well-being. Sometimes, however, there are some inconsequential practices that we believe do no harm, but are risking cognitive decline and brain disorders.

3 things that can harm your brain

In a November 4 Instagram post shared by Dr Bing, MD, MPH, a neurologist and biostatistician, he listed three things that he absolutely avoids as a neurologist and recommends others avoid as well. The habits include practices such as wearing headphones for extended periods or to bed, neglecting gum health, and sitting on the toilet for an excessive amount of time. Here’s how they damage your brain.

1. Wearing headphones to bed

Dr Bing cautioned against wearing headphones to bed. Here’s why: “If you are one of those people who wear headphones to bed, just make sure that the sounds that you’re playing are quiet and not loud because loud sounds can damage the hair cells in your inner ear and over time can raise your risk of hearing loss and dementia.”

Moreover, the neurologist emphasised that wearing earbuds and headphones for extended periods can trap moisture and bacteria. This can increase the risk of developing an ear infection.

“If you’re listening to loud sounds during sleep, it might interrupt your deep sleep and disrupt your lymphatic system, which is your brain’s nightly cleaning cycle that cleans out toxins,” he added.

2. Ignoring gum health

Next, the neurologist advised against ignoring gum health. Sharing his routine, Dr Bing revealed, “Every night, I floss and I water floss and then I brush because recent studies have shown that gum health might be related to someone’s brain health.”

The neurologist cited a 2025 study which found: “People with more gum disease and cavities had almost double the risk of stroke, and other studies have linked poor oral health to dementia and cognitive decline.”

3. Sitting on the toilet for more than 5 minutes

Lastly, the neurologist advised against sitting on the toilet for more than 5 minutes. He divulged, “This is because sitting too long and straining can cause blood to pool in your legs and drop your blood pressure, especially if you have certain underlying conditions, and not enough blood going to your brain can cause someone to faint.”

Unfortunately, the neurologist revealed that he sees such examples almost every week. However, he excused those with chronic bowel disease, as they might not have a choice, but otherwise, he cautioned, “Do not linger on the toilet.”

2026 Grammy Awards nominations: Kendrick Lamar leads list of music contenders – National

by jummy84 November 8, 2025
written by jummy84

The list of nominations for the 2026 Grammy Awards has been revealed, and red-hot rapper Kendrick Lamar is leading the pack.

Lamar is up for nine trophies at the February ceremony: record, song and album of the year — marking the third time he’s had simultaneous nominations in those big categories — as well as pop duo/group performance, melodic rap performance, rap song and rap album. He’s also nominated twice in the rap performance category.

The Not Like Us rapper has 22 Grammy career wins and 66 nominations in total. His album GNX is his fifth consecutive studio album to be nominated for album of the year, something no other artist has ever done. If it wins, it will be his first win in the category. And it will be only the third rap album to win the top prize, following Outkast in 2004 for Speakerboxxx/The Love Below and Lauryn Hill in 1999 for The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

Lamar’s nine nominations for his album GNX are part of a wave of hip-hop albums competing in the top categories, including Tyler, the Creator’s Chromakopia and Let God Sort Em Out from Clipse, Pusha T and Malice.

Lady Gaga, Jack Antonoff and Canadian record producer/songwriter Cirkut follow Lamar with seven nominations each.

Cirkut is up for both record and song of the year, twice — for Lady Gaga’s Abracadabra and Rosé and Bruno Mars’ APT. — as well as album of the year and best dance pop recording.

Other top nominees include Bad Bunny, Sabrina Carpenter, Leon Thomas and Justin Bieber.

Bad Bunny’s Debí Tirar Más Fotos is only the second time an all-Spanish language album has been nominated for the top prize. This comes three years after Bad Bunny’s release, Un Verano Sin Ti, became the first Spanish-language album to earn a nomination in the album of the year category.

This year’s nominees were announced during a video livestream with a host of talent, including Doechii, Gayle King, Karol G, Lizzo, Mumford & Sons, Sabrina Carpenter, Sam Smith, David Foster, Chappell Roan and more.

Only recordings commercially released in the U.S. between Aug. 31, 2024, through Aug. 30, 2025, were eligible for nominations.

The Grammy Awards made a change this year to the best country album category, following Beyoncé’s historic win of best album and best country album at the 2025 Grammy Awards for Cowboy Carter. The category has now been divided into two, with the creation of a best traditional country album category. The existing best country album category has been renamed best contemporary country album.

The 2026 Grammy Awards will take place on Feb. 1 live from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. A host is yet to be announced.

Hugh Jackman Leads Neil Diamond Tribute Band

by jummy84 October 27, 2025
written by jummy84

I’ve never been wild about the term “faith-based movie” — or, at least, the idea that it should only be applied to PG-rated calamity-meets-redemption Sunday-school soap operas micro-targeted to Evangelicals. “Song Sung Blue,” in almost every way, is a faith-based movie, though this one is rooted in the holly holy dream of devotion to the church of Neil Diamond. It’s based on the true story of Mike and Claire Sarina (played by Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson), who in the late ’80s and ’90s formed a Neil Diamond tribute band, performing as Lightning & Thunder (he’s Lightning, she’s Thunder). At first, the movie may strike you as a parable of more kitsch than faith.

The two meet at a performance at a scuzzy casino in their hometown of Milwaukee, where assorted semi-amateurs get up to impersonate dead legends like Elvis and Buddy Holly. She’s dressed as Patsy Cline and does a pretty good rendition of “After Midnight.” He’s supposed to go on as Don Ho and sing the 1966 novelty hit “Tiny Bubbles,” but he’s so tired of singing it that he quits on the spot. As we learn pretty quickly, Mike and Claire are both broken-down middle-aged Middle Americans toting around a private load of sorrow.

Each is divorced with kids. He’s a Vietnam veteran and 20-years-sober alcoholic who works odd jobs as a mechanic and plays in just about any band that will have him. She’s a hairdresser and struggling single mother who isn’t so much thriving as surviving. Together, they hatch an idea: What it they formed a band and sang Neil Diamond songs, not just doing the same old wax-museum versions of old rock stars but tapping into what the people really want?

“Song Sung Blue” was written and directed by Craig Brewer, who has made one amazing movie (“Hustle & Flow”), one good one (“Dolemite Is My Name”), and a few middling ones (“Footloose,” “Coming 2 America”), and the first thing you notice about the film, which Brewer based on a 2009 documentary of the same title, is how unironically it celebrates Karaoke Culture. By that, I don’t just mean what transpires in karaoke bars (though the movie has a number of scenes set in them). I’m talking about the impulse that started in karaoke and carried over to “American Idol” and to something larger: the whole religious dream about pop music that someone who was a nobody could stand up and sing a song made famous by a somebody, and if they did it with enough skill and passion they could channel what was great about that star in a way that turned the very act of channeling into its own sublime expression. Brewer navigates this terrain like a jukebox Jonathan Demme.

Mike worships Neil Diamond, to the point that when he sings, he’s no mere impersonator — he’s closer to a Neil Diamond avatar, coaxing out and dramatizing Diamond’s essence. Hugh Jackman is, of course, a marvelous singer in his own right, and while the film makes the point that Mike isn’t trying to sound exactly like his idol, in “Song Sung Blue” Jackman’s musical performances are transcendent in their ability to signify what we love about Neil Diamond: the low command of his voice, the smooth articulation, the crackling rosiness of it all.

We might look at Mike, in his overcoat of blue glitter, with his long hair cut and styled into a neatly parted Diamond pageboy, and Claire, in her spangled red dress with the gold piping, providing her cascading harmonies, and assume, for a moment, that the movie wants us to see them as some played-straight version of the Culps on “SNL.” But there’s nothing jokey or tacky about their presence, and the actors’ performances do nothing so much as bring the love.

Jackman, with his scuffed fortitude, and Hudson, radiating a stubborn wholesomeness, have an easy-listening camaraderie, to the point that when Mike and Claire fall in love and get married, it feels both casual and inevitable. With a booker (Jim Belushi) who has casino connections all over the Midwest, they start to work the circuit and develop a following. Their ascent becomes complete when they’re in their living room and Mike gets a call from Eddie Vedder, who he’s never heard of (he wonders if Pearl Jam is a fruit preserve). It’s the early ’90s, and grunge hipsters have embraced the pop legends of their youth. When Lightning & Thunder end up opening for Pearl Jam in Milwaukee, and Eddie comes out onstage to sing along with them, they’ve basically just gone to karaoke heaven.

The adversity comes out of nowhere. Literally, as in a bad dream. Claire is standing on her front lawn, and suddenly…a life upended, a body and soul severed, a reality redefined. This is where “Song Sung Blue” flirts, and not so lightly, with becoming that other kind of faith-based movie. I raise the issue because I actually think it has demographic meaning; this is the rare film that feels like it could exert a blue-state-meets-red-state appeal. Or, given how over a certain age Neil Diamond’s nostalgic fan base is, the whole thing could wind up slipping between the cracks. After the calamity occurs, the movie, for a while, loses its pace. Yet Hudson’s anguished performance holds it together. This is let-it-rip acting with the fussiness burned off. And Hudson and Jackman don’t just have chemistry; they have an emotional synergy that grows more moving as Mike and Claire bond together — and fuse, once again, with the power of Neil — to heal themselves.

Mike has physical problems of his own (he keeps having what look like mini-heart attacks, which he ignores since he’s too poor to have health insurance), and on the day of their big reunion show, which is supposed to end with them meeting Neil Diamond at an ice-cream stand, Mike tries to heal a gaping head wound with nail glue. You know he’s in for a hot August night.

As the movie recognizes, there are two kinds of Neil Diamond fans: those who, like Mike, hear the beautiful depths in dozens of his songs (“Cherry, Cherry,” “Brother Love’s Travelling Salvation Show,” “Cracklin’ Rosie”), and the bom bom bom people — the ones Mike can’t stand, who at a Neil Diamond concert experience an epiphany when they pump their fists in the air and sing-shout “bom! bom! bom!” in the middle of the chorus of “Sweet Caroline,” even though it’s not even a lyric. They’re singing along with the trumpet. These are the people who have to enhance the line “Good times never seemed so good!” (“So good! So good! So good!”) until it becomes an existential declaration of the miracle of life.

“Song Sung Blue” is certainly a movie for the bom bom bom crowd. Mostly, though, it’s for the Neil Diamond fans who will listen to Mike and Claire, in their solo show at the Ritz Theater in Milwaukee, in a state of slow-burn bliss. When Mike starts to sing the Arabic chant of “Soolaimon,” Diamond’s single from 1970, it sounds eerie and mysterious, but when the groove kicks in it’s so ecstatic you want to revel in its majesty, the same way Mike does: as a Diamond shining through the darkness.

Will Forte Leads Netflix Cartoon

by jummy84 September 19, 2025

What makes some souls linger on Earth, long after their mortal lives have ended? According to Netflix’s Haunted Hotel, the new animated comedy from Rick and Morty and Krapopolis creator Matt Roller, it has to do with unfinished business — a lost item never found, a bucket-list item never checked off, an anxiety never quelled.

What makes some shows linger in the mind, long after the end credits have rolled? Here, too, Haunted Hotel furnishes an answer, albeit probably not the one it intends. Despite a solid cast and some decent jokes, the series rarely rises above the level of pleasantly unobjectionable, much less distinctly memorable. Like the spirits that crowd its frames, it’s so wispy that it might go right through you without leaving any impression at all.

Haunted Hotel

The Bottom Line

Thoroughly unobjectionable and mostly unmemorable.

Airdate: Friday, Sept. 19 (Netflix)
Cast: Eliza Coupe, Will Forte, Skyler Gisondo, Natalie Palamides, Jimmi Simpson
Creator: Matt Roller

Borrowing a premise (as well as a running joke about the dead’s fascination with modern television) from CBS’ Ghosts, Haunted Hotel takes place in … well, you can guess. Katherine (Eliza Coupe) is the semi-reluctant proprietor of the establishment, which is struggling to turn a profit, not least due to the pesky supernatural infestation. On a good day, the Undervale houses maybe two living human guests and at least a couple dozen haunts of all demographics, time periods and modes of death — including the brother Katherine inherited it all from, the cheerfully feckless Nathan (Will Forte).

Katherine is also the frazzled single mother to two kids, hopelessly dorky 13-year-old Ben (Skyler Gisondo) and Machiavellian preteen Esther (Natalie Palamides). Rounding out this offbeat clan is their unofficial “ward,” Abaddon (Jimmi Simpson), a demon imprisoned in the body of a pallid 18th century boy. You can think of him as akin to Stewie from Family Guy or Godcat from Exploding Kittens in his ever-so-quirky combination of outsized arrogance and disarming childishness.

The issue with Haunted Hotel isn’t that it calls all these other shows and references to mind, per se. It’s that having done so, it struggles to carve out any notable identity of its own. It’s sort of funny (and, thankfully, never aggressively unfunny), but vanishingly few of its jokes are snappy enough to remember afterward, much less to repeat here. It’s got a sentimental streak, but wears its emotions so lightly I was caught off guard whenever the characters would begin to talk earnestly about how much they mean to one another.

There’s no bold stylistic flourish to make the visuals stand out; not even the monsters stray very far from the benignly slick, colorful style that will look familiar to anyone who’s seen an adult animated series in the past two decades. There are occasionally intriguing bits of lore (for example, Nathan casually refers to one of his fellow Undervalians as a “death day looper,” which made me curious to learn more about the whys and hows of ghost taxonomy), but the show rarely bothers going any deeper into them (for example, we don’t ever hear about death day loopers again).

What Haunted Hotel does have going for it is a strong cast. No one is straying far outside their usual wheelhouse here, but just because Forte could play “sweetly clueless” in his sleep or Gisondo has done “awkward but ultimately good-hearted nerd” a million times doesn’t mean they’re not playing those parts very capably here. You want to like these characters because you know and like their voices already. (The same goes for a deep bench of guest stars that includes Kumail Nanjiani, Jenifer Lewis and Randall Park.)

But here, too, the show falls a bit short. With the exception of Palamides’ Esther, whose sardonic exterior frequently gives way to a more vulnerable side, none of the core characters are very fleshed out beyond the types they represent. Nor do their relationships have the depth or texture to make us invest in them — not even with Abaddon, whose feelings about the family oscillate between resentful disdain and genuine affection. They seem like a perfectly nice family, but that’s all they are: nice, not complex or vivid or unique.

That doesn’t change even as they’re thrown into situations that sound appropriately outlandish on paper. The premiere involves Katherine hiring an exorcist, and the finale the arrival of a demonic cult; in between are storylines about Ben getting a ghost girlfriend (Riki Lindhome), Esther fashioning herself a zombie dad (a grunting creature named Dan), the local junior high getting overrun by bloodthirsty critters and whatnot. But with few inspired twists or sharp gags or meaningful emotions on offer, most overstay their welcome even at two or three plots per half hour.

There are a few exceptions. One is a bizarre B-plot about Katherine getting courted by her own honeymoon suite, only to see it turn jealous and possessive. Notwithstanding the endless parade of ghosts, demons, serial killers and at least one Mothman, Haunted Hotel is mostly not trying to frighten you. But there’s something genuinely unsettling about watching Katherine get stalked by the bubbles from her bath or the room itself somehow teleport around the hotel; if nothing else, the suite is certainly one of the season’s more unusual villains.

Another is a late-season sequence that, for reasons too spoiler-y to get into here, sees a character time-traveling back and forth across millennia to help someone they care about. It’s one of the few times the love supposedly binding this family is truly shown rather than just talked about as if it were an abstract theory, and I even found myself a bit moved by this grandest of grand gestures.

In both cases, the series feels like it’s finally embracing its full potential by letting itself get a little scary or ugly or sad, rather than sticking with the relentless but textureless cheer that defines most of the rest of its output. Should Netflix decide to check in for another stay, here’s hoping Haunted Hotel lets its freak flag fly in earnest — rather than trying to stuff it down the bottomless pit in the garden, lest it scare off the normie customers.

Beyonce Hard Drives Stolen From Dancer’s Car Leads to Atlanta Arrest

The materials that the musician’s choreographer and dancer said were stolen from a Jeep Wagoneer rental in Atlanta during the Cowboy Carter tour have not been recovered

The Atlanta Police Department has made an arrest in connection to a car robbery in which hard drives containing unreleased music and tour plans from Beyoncé were reportedly stolen. The theft occurred when the Cowboy Carter tour arrived in the city for four dates in July. Choreographer Christopher Grant and singer Diandre Blue reported having two suitcases stolen from a Jeep Wagoneer rental, which contained “personal sensitive information for the musician Beyonce.”

The suspect, Kelvin Evans, was taken into custody and booked into the Fulton Country Jail on Aug. 26 and charged with Entering Automobile or Other Motor Vehicle With Intent to Commit Theft or Felony. Evans has not yet been released and the Atlanta Police Department reports that “the stolen items have not been recovered at this time.”

In a 911 call released by the Atlanta Police Department, Grant said, “They have my computers, and it’s really, really important information in there. I work with someone who’s like of a high status, and I really need my computer and everything. On July 15, about a week after the incident occurred, a representative for the police department noted that no camera footage pertaining to the theft would be released.

According to the call, Grant and Blue reported that the window to the trunk of the Wagoneer had been smashed. Light fingerprints were lifted from the scene, an incident report revealed, and auto larceny investigators flagged a vehicle in the area based on available information. An arrest warrant for a suspect was issued on July 14.

Despite the incident, the Cowboy Carter tour continued as planned. Beyoncé completed four sold-out shows at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The tour wrapped about two weeks later in Las Vegas. “The three hours of Beyoncé felt nonstop as she ran through almost the entirety of Cowboy Carter during the set,” Rolling Stone wrote in a review of the tour opener. “Everything from the show seemed calculated and measured to perfection, leaving little space for Beyoncé to break from the plan. It was a theatrical spectacle that, once again, put Bey in a league of her own.”

US President Donald Trump has lead tributes to Robert Redford, saying that “there was nobody better” than the late Hollywood legend.

US President Donald Trump is among those to pay tribute to late actor Robert Redford

The iconic actor-and-director died at the age of 89 on Tuesday morning (16.09.25) at his home at Sundance in the mountains of Utah, and Trump has said Redford’s passing was “a good way to go”.

Speaking to Reuters, Trump, 79, said: “Well, it’s a good way to go, I guess.

“Robert Redford was great. He had a series of years where there was nobody better.”

When asked what his favourite film of Redford’s was, Trump said: “You have a lot of them. He made seven or eight great films.

“There was a period when he was the hottest.”

Redford was one of the biggest stars and most acclaimed actors in Hollywood, having starred in hits such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, All The President’s Men and The Sting.

As well as his movies, Redford also left his impact on the movie industry after he helped establish Utah’s annual Sundance Film Festival.

Hollywood has mourned Redford’s passing, with A Beautiful Mind director Ron Howard dubbing the late Oscar-winning actor as an “artistic gamechanger”.

On X, he wrote: ” RIP and thank you Robert Redford, a tremendously influential cultural figure for the creative choices made as an actor/producer/director and for launching the Sundance Film Festival which supercharged America’s Independent Film movement. Artistic Gamechanger.”

Meanwhile, Meryl Streep – who starred opposite Redford in 1985’s Out Of Africa and Lions For Lambs in 2007 – penned: “One of the lions has passed.

“Rest in peace my lovely friend.”

Author Stephen King has also reflected on the impact Redford had on the movie industry.

He wrote: “Robert Redford has passed away. He was part of a new and excited Hollywood in the 70s and 80s. Hard to believe he was 89.”

Star Trek icon William Shatner said: “Condolences to the family of Robert Redford.”

James Dreyfus heaped praise on Redford, dubbing him “truly legendary”.

He said: “RIP Robert Redford.

Terrific actor, brilliant actor. Truly legendary.”

Colman Domingo thanked Redford for his “everlasting impact” on the movie industry.

He wrote: “With love and admiration. Thank you Mr. Redford for your everlasting impact. Will be felt for generations. R.I.P.”

Marlee Matlin – the star of the Academy Award-winning 2021 picture CODA – shared a touching tribute to Redford, and said the movie had won its three honours thanks to its appearance at the Sundance Film Festival.

She penned: “Our film, CODA, came to the attention of everyone because of Sundance. And Sundance happened because of Robert Redford.

“A genius has passed. RIP Robert Redford.”
