by jummy84 December 11, 2025
written by jummy84

The Power of Events, the not for profit organisation launched in 2023 to provide better understanding, respect and value for the UK Events Industry, is thrilled to announce the expansion of its UK Schools Engagement Programme into the North East with the new Leeds region.

This unique initiative is connecting thousands of young people with the dynamic world of events, providing insights, inspiration and career pathways into the industry.

In its first academic year 24-25, it engaged 106,000+ young people through 350 school visits, across East of England, Birmingham, South Coast and Hertfordshire regions – a Year 1 Report is now published: www.thepowerofevents.org/schools-engagement-programme/

With ambassador registration now live on the Schools Engagement Programme portal www.schools.thepowerofevents.org industry professionals across the UK are invited to sign up and support the next generation of talent by volunteering as little as an hour to the initiative. The first wave of Leeds school engagements will begin in the Spring of 2026 across the region, with the aim of reaching 10,000+ young people in the first year.

This programme expansion for 2026 is made possible with sponsorship from leading event industry organisations across the Leeds region:

  • Leeds Hotels and Venues Association (LHVA), PLASA, Reset Connect, Royal Armouries, Sparq Live, Sterling Event Group, TAIT, The Meetings Show, XSEM

Sam Woodward at TAIT said, “We are delighted to support Power of Events, especially this new initiative on the doorstep of our UK home in Yorkshire – proud to help encourage the next generation of talent to explore the many facets of our industry”

Dan Bardgett, Managing Director at XSEM said, “The events industry reaches into every corner of the economy – from healthcare and technology to sport, culture and beyond. Many of our team began their journey studying event management at university, so we know first-hand how the right encouragement can unlock incredible careers. Supporting The Power of Events programme is a chance to show young people the scale of opportunities waiting for them, and to help inspire the next generation of talent who will shape the future of this industry.”

Rick Stainton, CEO of The Power of Events, commented: “The launch of the Leeds Hub marks a significant progression into the North East for one of our core projects, to engage and inspire young people across the UK about the diverse opportunities within the events industry. With the incredible support of our ambassadors and sponsors, we look forward to developing a lasting impact across the region.”

The Power of Events had already announced 4 new regions coming online in the autumn of 2025 – Manchester/Liverpool/Cheshire, Edinburgh, London and most recently Bath/Bristol, with a projection of engaging over 250,000 young people across the 8 live regions by the end of 2026.

To kick off the Leeds region, The Power of Events will be inviting event industry professionals to an exclusive launch reception in the city in early 2026.

This event will provide an opportunity to learn more about the programme and how to get involved as a volunteer schools ambassador, as well as network with the programme sponsors alongside the wider organisation’s supporters and partners.

ECOsmart by Greengage launches The Conscious Pledge to cut industry single-use plastics

by jummy84 November 20, 2025
written by jummy84

ECOsmart by Greengage has launched The Conscious Pledge, a new industry-wide initiative to eliminate single-use plastic gifts and packaging amongst the events, business travel, and accommodation community.

The campaign encourages venues, hotels, and agencies to ‘swap plastic for purpose’ by replacing giveaways with meaningful alternatives such as charitable donations or time spent supporting environmental initiatives.

The launch comes as global concern around plastic waste continues to rise. According to UNEP (2023), around 85% of single-use plastic packaging ends up in landfill or as unregulated waste, and by 2025, as much as 199 million tonnes of plastic will be in our oceans.

The Conscious Pledge invites organisations to commit to stop giving and receiving plastic gifts during meetings with each other. They will receive a Conscious Pledge campaign pack with guidance and messaging to help make the transition easy. Businesses can also display their Conscious Pledge badge to inspire others to follow suit.

Greengage CEO Andrew Perolls said: “As an industry, we have the power to make small changes that add up to a big difference – for our oceans, for our health, and for the example we set to clients. The Conscious Pledge makes it simple to take positive action and play a part.”

Early supporters – including Clarity Business Travel, Warwick Conferences, Inntel, Edgbaston Park Hotel, If Only, Elegant Resorts, and Church House Westminster – have already pledged to remove single-use plastics from all partner interactions.

Kirsty Given, Clarity Business Travel’s Director of Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability, commented: “Our people, customers, and suppliers expect us to demonstrate sustainability in our own organisational choices, and committing to The Conscious Pledge is a simple, practical way for us to show that our responsible practice includes the small, everyday decisions. Those small changes can create powerful ripple effects; we want to be part of that momentum and encourage the entire industry to do the same.”

Justine Meek, Warwick Conferences’ Agency Relationship manager added: “We like the campaign because it aligns perfectly with our commitment to reducing industry waste. Through the Conscious Pledge we will be taking meaningful steps to address our contribution to the global issue of single-use plastic. Too often, single-use items such as merchandise are brought and used briefly before being discarded, adding to the amount of unnecessary waste. By supporting this campaign, we are choosing to make changes that can create a lasting impact for the future.”

The Conscious Pledge is open to hotels, venues, event and venue-finding agencies, and travel management companies which want to demonstrate a commitment to reducing waste and protecting the environment.

Zig Zag Launches SPV Fund With Seventy7 Ventures

Zig Zag Launches SPV Fund With Seventy7 Ventures

by jummy84 November 20, 2025
written by jummy84

I Wanna Marry Harry producer Zig Zag has launched a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for film, TV and sports and is targeting a £20M ($26M) fund to support them.

Zig Zag, which had its production arm declared insolvent last year before re-emerging, has joined with Seventy7Ventures on the SPV.

The pair are looking to create a fund that will support “capital-intensive productions across scripted, unscripted, and sports-led entertainment formats.”

Each project will be put through the SPV via a six-month exclusive financing option. Should a project not secure financing within the option window, Zig Zag may extend the term or reassign the project and introduce replacements.

Zig Zag boss Danny Fenton will work closely with Seventy7 Ventures executive chairman Ketan Makwana.

“We at Zig Zag are excited to work with Seventy7 and its partners in exploring new ways of programme financing in an ever-evolving market place,” said Fenton. “We think the model Ketan offers has great viability and rewards for the investment community and producers alike.”

The news comes 18 months after Fenton’s indie, which has made Fox’s I Wanna Marry Harry and Danny Dyer’s Deadliest Men, shut down its production arm after 25 years amid the unscripted commissioning drought, which led to a number of layoffs. The company had its IP assets, including its development slate and the catalogue, valued by an independent business and then sold at a premium to a new entity owned by Fenton, with the proceeds were used to pay off Zig Zag’s creditors, according to an interview with UK TV trade Broadcast in March 2025.

The production arm re-emerged this year having landed two sports commissions for the BBC and TNT Sports around a year after insolvency.

Dharamshala , Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district on Friday launched its official tourism website “VisitDharamshala.com”, in a major step towards digital tourism promotion.

Dalai Lama launches ‘VisitDharamshala.com’ to boost tourism in Himachal’s Kangra

Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, inaugurated the portal through a soft-launch ceremony held at his residence in McLeodganj, marking a new milestone in showcasing the region’s natural beauty and cultural heritage to the world.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Dharamshala Hotel and Restaurant Association, aims to provide a one-stop online platform for visitors to explore, plan, and experience the best of Kangra Valley.

The launch ceremony was attended by Association president Ashwani Bamba, Chairman Onkar Nehria, District Tourism Officer Vinay Dhiman, members of the association’s executive committee, local entrepreneurs, adventure operators, representatives of Waste Warriors, and other guests.

Expressing appreciation for the initiative, the Dalai Lama described the website as “A milestone effort that will further strengthen Himachal’s tourism footprint on the global map”.

Later, addressing the media at a press conference, president Ashwani Bamba said the new portal would serve as a comprehensive guide for tourists, offering authentic travel information, real-time weather updates, and hotel booking facilities across the district, from the snow-capped Dhauladhar ranges to the serene Pong Dam Lake.

“Our goal is to promote responsible and eco-friendly tourism while also providing livelihood opportunities for local communities,” Bamba said.

“To ensure transparency and reliability, only verified hotels, guesthouses, and service providers will be featured on the platform,” he added.

He further said that Dharamshala’s global appeal, enhanced by the presence of his holiness the Dalai Lama, would now be complemented by a digital gateway that makes the region more accessible and visitor-friendly.

The website offers detailed information on local attractions, monasteries, temples, lakes, waterfalls, adventure activities, cuisine, crafts, and cultural experiences. Visitors can directly book rooms in more than 100 verified hotels, including major 3-star and 4-star properties, with booking confirmations routed straight to the respective establishments.

With this digital initiative, Dharamshala aims to blend tradition with technology, positioning itself as a model for sustainable and smart tourism in the Himalayas.

The state government has declared Kangra, home to three Shakti Peethas and two major monasteries, a “tourism district”, the district tourism officer said.

“VisitDharamshala.com” will serve as a vital digital bridge connecting visitors with the region’s natural beauty, spirituality, and hospitality, the officer added.
