See Lana Del Rey Cover Neil Young’s ‘The Needle and the Damage Done’

“I thought we’d get started with a little bit of Neil,” singer says before playing Harvest classic at charity show

Lana Del Rey took the stage Saturday at Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” charity concert, with the singer opened her set with a rendition of the host’s “The Needle and the Damage Done.”

“I thought we’d get started with a little bit of Neil,” Del Rey told the crowd as she walked onstage at Lake Hughes, California’s Painted Turtle Summer Camp. She and her band then launched into a faithful and stirring take on the Harvest classic.

Del Rey’s set also included performances of her own “Arcadia,” “Video Games,” “Summertime Sadness,” and “Norman Fucking Rockwell,” as well as her first-ever solo performance of “Let the Light In.”

Saturday’s gig marked Del Rey’s last scheduled performance of 2025 — and the last show on her live itinerary in general — but there’s always the slim chance she might randomly hop up onstage if the moment strikes her. The singer previously revealed that her country-inspired album has been pushed to 2026.

This year’s Harvest Moon concert also featured sets from Beck, John Mayer, and Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Painted Turtle, which provides a summer camp experience for kids with serious medical issues, and the Bridge School, which educates children with severe speech and physical disabilities.

Star Vicky McClure on Lana

ITV’s hit drama Trigger Point, starring Vicky McClure (Line of Duty, Alex Rider), as Explosives Officer, or Expo, Lana Washington, an Afghan War veteran, is returning to U.K. screens for season 3 on Sunday. And it is set to be another explosive season.

Produced by Jed Mercurio’s (Line of Duty, Bodyguard) HTM Television, in association with All3Media International, which distributes the series internationally,Trigger Point follows a team of bomb disposal officers in London, dedicated to keeping the capital safe from dangerous devices and terrorist threats. Season two last year averaged 8.1 million viewers and was streamed 30 million times on streamer ITVX, making it ITV1’s second-most-watched drama of 2024 behind Mr Bates vs The Post Office.

Returning cast members include Eric Shango (On the Edge) as Danny, Nabil Elouahabi (Blue Lights, Unforgotten) as Hassan “Hass” Rahim, Natalie Simpson (North Sea Connection) as DS Helen Morgan, and Maanuv Thiara (DI Ray, Landscapers) as DI Amar Batra. Jason Flemyng (Gemma Bovery, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels) guest stars in season 3 as antagonist Steven Wyles.

Executive producers are Mercurio, Daniel Walker (The Tourist), Jessica Sharkey (Breathtaking, Derry Girls), Chris Brandon and McClure. The lead writer for the third season is Chris Brandon (Bloodlands), with Jamie Donouhue (Doctor Who, A Discovery of Witches) and Audrey Cooke (Trigger Point, DI Ray) directing.

The third season, comprised of six episodes, sees Washington and her team investigate a bomb threat that soon reveals itself to be the start of a sinister vendetta. “Someone is targeting individuals and demanding revenue,” according to a season 3 plot description. “Working alongside the Police Counter Terrorism Unit, the Bomb Disposal Squad race against time to find the bomber before they claim their next victim.”

Season 3 will air on ITV1 and STV and will be available to stream on ITVX and STV Player with season 1 and 2 available to watch now on ITVX.

McClure talked to THR about what Trigger Point fans, or newbies, for that matter, can expect from season 3.

Lana overcame all sorts of drama and danger at the end of season 2. “Because of what she’s faced in [seasons] one and two, we needed to address how she’s dealing with that, how she’s living with the traumas that she’s faced and the people that she’s lost,” McClure told THR. “PTSD has always been a thing for Lana, but it was very much in the background before. Whereas we bring that to the forefront this time. There was talk of tinnitus, and so we explored that.”

Not that Lana needed any more hurdles to overcome. “The characters around her, such as [Kerry Godliman’s Bomb Data Center civilian specialist] Sonya [Reeves], Hassan, and Danny, know she’s facing certain things, but she doesn’t really talk. She’s not an open book.”

In that sense, the protagonist is not dissimilar from the bombs she defuses. “Yeah, the question is when is Lana going to explode?” says McClure. “When is she going to have her moment where actually she is either having an outburst or she’s going to accept help? And what does that lead to?”

After playing an Expo for several seasons, does the star feel she could ever defuse a bomb herself? “People have been asking me this a lot,” she highlights. “Can I defuse one? No, I cannot. I wouldn’t want to either. I’m not strong enough for that kind of work. But what’s been lovely is, once you’re on a third season, you pick up the lingo a lot quicker. You know what you’re talking about.”

Some behavior has become second nature, thanks also to the show’s explosives advisor, Joel Snarr. “Just going through a doorway without checking it first would be alien to me now,” McClure shares. “Even if it might not be in the script again, we need to check the door before we walk through it.”

How did she go about portraying the tinnitus? “It’s hard because you rely on sound to really emphasize it,” McClure emphasizes. “And it was tough for me personally, because my dad’s got tinnitus. He worked with power tools, which is what brought that on for him, but you can’t hear it – nobody else can hear. It needs to be really subtle. As an actor, I’ve always wanted to feel something as much as I can to make sure I can use it in acting. But in this case, there’s nothing you can really do apart from imagining it. If you have never experienced something that’s internal, it’s really tough.”

But the star was happy to be able to highlight Lana’s struggle with tinnitus in some scenes. “We had some really nice moments where we were able to establish that this is a moment where it’s really attacking her,” she notes.

The production shot seasons 3 and 4 this time, making for not only a long production cycle but also creating the challenge of scenes not being shot chronologically. “Once you’re a couple of weeks in, the names of places, all the technical things, and all the details of the plot very much are in your bones,” McClure tells THR. “But you must also actually rely on people like script supervisors. That is vital. You are spending a lot of time going, ‘Where have I been? Where am I heading?’”

How key is having lighter moments in Trigger Point between all the action and drama? “The audience needs it for a little light relief,” offers McClure. “But the characters also need it. Their friendship can’t just be based on trauma. They must sometimes have a laugh, and we’ve managed to find that, especially with Nabil, who plays Hass, a great character. And I feel his character is now really propelled and has that gallows humor that Expos have, that people who have been in the forces need.”

McClure also had a blast facing off with Flemyng’s season 3 baddie. “It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with Jason,” she tells THR. “He’s an amazing actor and has done so many shows over the years that I’ve watched and thoroughly enjoyed. So it was great to have him on the show, a real coup for us. But he couldn’t be further from the baddie he plays. In real life, he’s just full of life, full of laughter.”

That said, “he played a blinder with this character who has a personal vendetta,” explains McClure. “So, there is not a big organization with a much bigger machine behind him. And Jason did what you want actors to do – bring more to it than what’s on the page.”

The star also highlights the importance of the Trigger Point crew and cast having grown together and collaborating like a family. “It is such a team effort,” she emphasizes. “It’s about all the little details. You just can’t do this without every single person turning up and giving it their everything.”

Once season 3 of Trigger Point is finished, fans don’t need to worry about Lana & Co. getting bored. Jumping straight from season 3 into season 4 was different and interesting for McClure. “We had new people to introduce and a whole new story,” she says. “So I had to quite quickly erase [season 3] from my mind, pretend it never happened, and start again.”

Watch Rosé blend Lana Del Rey and Paul Simon tracks in medley on ‘The Howard Stern Show’

BLACKPINK‘s Rosé blended covers of Lana Del Rey and Paul Simon tracks while on The Howard Stern Show – check it out below.

  • READ MORE: Rosé and Bruno Mars’ ‘APT.’ is an addictively flirty and fun intro to the BLACKPINK star’s solo era

As well as her own hit single, the Bruno Mars-assisted ‘APT.’, the New Zealand artist also combined Lana Del Rey‘s ‘Norman Fucking Rockwell’ with Paul Simon‘s ‘50 Ways to Leave Your Lover’ during her stop on the show.

The full footage of her appearance was shared on YouTube on Friday (September 26), with the ’50 Ways to Leave Your Norman’ medley seeing Rosé alter Del Rey’s track slightly so its lyrics were less explicit.

“You talk to the walls when the party gets bored of you/But I don’t get bored, I just see it through/Why wait for the best when I could have you?” she sang, before transitioning into Simon’s 1975 track.

“You just slip out the back, Jack/Make a new plan, Stan/You don’t need to be coy, Roy/Just get yourself free,” Rosé sings in the clip. “Hop on the bus, Gus/You don’t need to discuss much/Just drop off the key, Lee/And get yourself free.”

Earlier this month, the K-pop star and BLACKPINK member hit yet another landmark achievement, with ‘APT.’ garnering over 2billion views on YouTube, the first of her solo material to do so.

That news came shortly after she became the first-ever Korean act to win Song of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). ‘APT.’ broke numerous records and topped charts following its release in October – also becoming the fastest K-pop song to surpass one billion streams on Spotify.

The track was also named one of NME’s best 50 songs of 2024 and clinched the second spot on NME’s list of the best 25 K-pop songs of the year, with Sara Delgado saying that with “a genius interpolation of Toni Basil’s ‘Mickey’ and an infectiously funky chanted chorus, ‘APT.’ will go down in history as the perfect case study on how to launch a solo career.

“The cherry on top of a great package? The assist (vocally, but also creatively) from the ever-charismatic Bruno Mars.”

The song also scored a glowing five-star review, with NME’s Rhian Daly writing: “There’s a power and confidence in her voice that far surpasses her past performances, and the vintage pop-rock riffs and attitude – which echo with elements of Toni Basil, Blondie and Joan Jett – feel sublimely suited to her as an artist.

“Addictive, flirty and a whole lot of fun, ‘APT.’ is the perfect introduction to Rosé’s new chapter.”

Lana Del Rey is ringing in her first wedding anniversary with husband Jeremy Dufrene, commemorating the milestone by giving fans a stunning set of never-before-seen pictures from their romantic wedding ceremony last year. The 40-year-old songstress, best known for her ethereal and poetic songs, gave fans an emotional look into her wedding day in the form of a carousel on Instagram.

Visitors such as Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley made cameo appearances, smiling and congratulating the couple. The carousel also unveiled adorable details, like their wedding cake decorated with a gold-framed portrait of a cabin, and adorable moments of the bride and groom feeding each other slices. Lana featured photos with her bridesmaids and a perfume bottle engraved with “Love on the Bayou” and their wedding date, 09.26.24. It concluded with a video of beautiful silver crockery, letting the pictures do the talking about the love and happiness that was the day.

Jeremy also posted a carousel on his Instagram, beginning with the wedding cake picture and going on with unplanned moments of the couple celebrating with close friends and family. In the caption, he said, “Just want to wish my precious bride a Happy 1st year Anniversary. A lifetime of love and happy tears to go.”

Rose Covers Lana Del Rey, Paul Simon on ‘The Howard Stern Show’

The singer pulled from Lana Del Rey’s “Norman Fucking Rockwell” and Paul Simon’s “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” to create the bluesy “50 Ways to Leave Your Norman”

Rosé stopped by the Howard Stern Show for a solo showcase. The Blackpink singer brought her own hit single, the Bruno Mars-assisted “APT.,” but also whipped up a fusion of two songs from two distinct artists. In a medley performance, Rosé pulled from Lana Del Rey‘s “Norman Fucking Rockwell” and Paul Simon‘s “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” to create the bluesy cover record “50 Ways to Leave Your Norman.”

The two songs share a loose narrative thread. Rosé started off singing about a pretentious poet in her less explicit version of “Norman Fucking Rockwell,” crooning, “You talk to the walls when the party gets bored of you/But I don’t get bored, I just see it through/Why wait for the best when I could have you?” As she transitioned into “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover,” a sudden realization comes to light thanks to some much needed advice.

“You just slip out the back, Jack/Make a new plan, Stan/You don’t need to be coy, Roy/Just get yourself free,” Rosé sang with an edge of funk from her band in the studio. “Hop on the bus, Gus/You don’t need to discuss much/Just drop off the key, Lee/And get yourself free.”

While on the show, Rosé also shared the original demo for “APT.” before Bruno Mars contributed his feature. In the original verses, she encouraged a similar exit strategy, only with different motives. “We’ve been talking seven days a week/But you can’t hold my body through a screen/So you should leave your friends back at the bar,” she sang on the recording. “The night is still young, I got what you need/You can go and call yourself a car/Don’t tell anyone that you gon’ meet me at the…”

“APT.” appeared on Rosé’s debut solo album Rosie, which arrived in December. This weekend, she’ll perform the record at Global Citizen Festival in New York City.

Neil Young is bringing back his Harvest Moon benefit concert at the Painted Turtle Camp in Lake Hughes, Ca., and will welcome Beck and Lana Del Rey for the 2025 edition on Oct. 25. Young launched the event in 2019 as the successor to his annual Bridge School Benefit concerts, which he organized with his late wife Pegi.

Proceeds from Harvest Moon benefit not only the Bridge School, which supports children with severe speech and physical disabilities, but the Painted Turtle, which offers “transformative camp experiences” for children with serious medical conditions.

Young will perform with his band the Chrome Hearts, while marima ensemble Masanga will reprise their role as the first act of the day. Tickets are on sale now.

“This gathering, where music, nature and purpose come together, is a powerful celebration of hope and community,” says Painted Turtle executive director April Tani. “It’s an opportunity for all of us to support two extraordinary organizations making a real difference in children’s lives.”

Previous Harvest Moon performers have included John Mayer, Father John Misty and Norah Jones. In 2024, Young was joined by former bandmate Stephen Stills for a set of solo, Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young songs.
