How Rachel Sennott, Ayo Edebri Hatched That Wild ‘I Love L.A.’ Cameo

by jummy84 November 21, 2025
written by jummy84

Into every generation, an HBO comedy about the pains of adulthood is born. Sex and the City, Girls, Entourage, How to Make It in America, Insecure … they’re all different, but they share a common DNA. And Gen Z may have found their answer in I Love LA. Created by and starring Rachel Sennott, the series began at the top of November and follows a group of 20-somethings navigating their careers and social lives in one of America’s most challenging metropolises. Sennott, who portrays ambitious transplant Maia, recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter‘s new podcast I’m Having an Episode to explain what she’s trying to say with the series — and how she got pal Ayo Edebiri to co-create an absolutely bonkers bit part.

We’re speaking just before the premiere, so I’d be remiss if I didn’t ask about your mental state.

Unwell. Not OK. I’m crushing my second Celsius of the day. The first was at 7 a.m. I definitely feel vulnerable because this is the longest I’ve ever worked on one thing. I co-wrote Bottoms with my friend Emma Seligman, and that was vulnerable too. This is pretty personal to me, and it’s the first time I directed. I’m definitely scared, but I’m also really proud of it. I just need to release control and trust the universe or whoever and hope that it finds the right people.

Ayo Edebiri makes a guest appearance as delusional British pop star Mimi Rush in the second episode of the comedy series.

Wearing as many hats as you do on this show — writing, acting, editing, directing — where did you find yourself most comfortable?

I always felt like I was cheating on one job with another, which was kind of nice. You’re in the writers room, and you’re really liking it, and then you get sick of that, and all of a sudden you’re scouting locations and get energy from that. Then, boom, you’re an actress. The change is nice. A new love for me that I haven’t experienced before is directing. By the end, I felt like I had just given birth, so the edit was a cocoon for me.

How did you land on how you wanted to incorporate phones and social media on the show? A major criticism of film and TV is that they never know how to navigate that correctly, but your show is about the influencer economy.

It was a huge thing for me because I got my first phone in middle school. I wasn’t an iPad baby, but I would say I grew up on the internet. It’s just always been a huge part of my life. And a lot of times when it’s depicted in movies and TV, it feels a little clunky. For us, it feels seamless. I don’t even think about it. It was important for me to try to depict the internet in that way. And then also create our own internet for the show that moves and breathes the same way the real internet does. Tallulah [Odessa A’zion] is on her phone all the time, and you don’t question for one second that she’s an internet girl, but you don’t need to see her make 10 TikToks to get it.

Odessa A’zion portrays Tallulah Stiel, a popular influencer and college friend of Sennott’s character, in I Love LA.

In the past couple of years, you also co-created Dan Levy’s upcoming Netflix series. You co-wrote the upcoming Heidi Fleiss biopic. You were also set to star in both but had to drop out to focus on this show. Does it feel weird to be turning down opportunities because you have this full-time job now?

It’s definitely a learning curve. I’m someone who’s like, “I’ll make it work.” I will not sleep and I’ll do this and whatever to try to make everything work. But at a certain point, I think you don’t want to do everything if you can’t do a good job at everything. It’s always hard not being able to do other things, especially with such amazing creators and talented people that I’ve looked up to for such a long time, but I’ve had to shift my mindset.

Your friend and frequent collaborator Ayo Edebiri guest stars in the second episode as a fantastically unhinged pop star. And British. Did you bring that to her fully baked or did you guys all find that together?

We found that together. She is a comedic genius. We definitely had the bones of a character, an unhinged diva. I pitched her the idea the morning after the Met Gala. I was like, “Hey, can I send you this?” She Zooms me from her hotel room. It’s like pitch black. She’s like, “Speak to me! What’s the idea?” Then we started jamming on it. Afterward, [writer-producers] Emma Barrie and Max Silvestri talked to her, and we were like, “Do you want to come to the writers room? We need you!”

‘Reba’, ‘Santa Barbara’ Producer & L.A. Activist Was 62

by jummy84 November 12, 2025
written by jummy84

Eric Preven, a writer-producer on the sitcom Reba who produced hundreds of episodes of the daytime drama Santa Barbara, worked on several other shows and was a Los Angeles journalist, died November 8 in Studio City. He was 62.

The local news outlet CityWatch LA confirmed the news, writing, “It is with deep sorrow that we at CityWatch LA announce the passing of our longtime contributor, Eric Preven, who died suddenly on Saturday of an apparent heart attack.”

Preven got his start as an assistant producer on the NBC soap opera Santa Barbara in 1988 and later became an associate producer. He was promoted to coordinating producer in 1992 and served in that role until the following year.

He launched his writing career on the Fox sitcom Partners in 1995, penning three episodes of the series starring Jon Cryer, Tate Donovan and Maria Pitillo during its single-season run. From there, Preven moved to writing episodes of the NBC comedy Boston Common from 1996-97, the 1996-98 ensemble comedy Something So Right — who first season aired on NBC and second on ABC — and the short-lived Fox sitcom Holding the Baby.

By the late ’90s, Preven was writing for The WB dramedy Popular, co-created by Ryan Murphy and starring Leslie Bibb and Carly Pope. He penned about a half-dozen episodes and produced two others from 1999-2001.

In 2002, he joined The WB comedy Reba as a consulting producer about halfway through its freshman season. He was upped to supervising producer for Season 2 and also wrote a pair of episodes before leaving the show in 2003. His final credit was as a producing on the 2009 telefilm A Year with Freeway Rick Ross, about the notorious Los Angeles drug kingpin.

Preven also was well known in L.A. for his civic activism, often calling out local politicians on such issues as spending, transparency, homelessness policy and municipal reforms. He ran a longshot candidate for mayor in 2017, taking part in a candidates’ debate that year.

Preven is survived by a brother, Joshua Preven; a sister, Anne Preven; his parents Ruth and David Preven; and children Isaac Rooks Preven and Reva Jay Preven.

Lorde Brings Out Charli XCX for ‘Girl, So Confusing’ in L.A.: Watch

by jummy84 October 20, 2025
written by jummy84

The singers delivered the song’s remix at Kia Forum on Saturday

Lorde and Charli XCX worked it out on the remix live last night, with a surprise performance of their collaborative version of Charli XCX’s “Girl, So Confusing.”

At Lorde’s Ultrasound World Tour stop at Kia Forum in Los Angeles Saturday, the singer invited Charli XCX out during the encore. Lorde gave the audience a clue what was coming when she wrote the word “Girl” and underlined it on the palm of her hand, as fan footage shows.

Appearing on a small platform in the middle of the audience, Lorde started singing the song as a video displayed on the main stage screen showed footage of Charli, who turned out to be on the Kia Forum’s main floor. Charli then launched into her first verse. She walked through the audience and made her way to the platform, where the pair performed the Brat and It’s Completely Different But Also Still Brat track together, delivering an energized, dance-fueled performance.

The duo previously performed the remix together during Charli’s co-headlining Sweat Tour with Troye Sivan in 2024, and earlier this year, they teamed up to perform it during Charli’s appearance at Coachella in April.

Trending Stories

A year after the remix’s release, and the song’s complicated female friendship narrative, which they address in their confessional collaborative version, continues to resonate not only between the artists and their fans, but with other female artists, too. In September, Hinds, who has been covering the remix version on tour, released a video for their spin on the track.

Lorde’s tour continues through the U.S. with three more stops — she plays Berkeley tonight before continuing on to Portland and Seattle. She then heads to the Europe and the U.K. She concludes the 2025 portion of the tour with a pair of shows in Brooklyn at Barclays Center on Dec. 16 and Dec. 17.

Playboi Carti Brings Out Kendrick Lamar & A$AP Rocky at L.A. Show

by jummy84 October 15, 2025
written by jummy84

Playboi Carti turned the Los Angeles stop of the Antagonist 2.0 Tour into a star-studded affair with A$AP Rocky and Kendrick Lamar joining King Vamp on stage.

Carti and Opium crew took over Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday night (Oct. 14). Rocky, who signed Carti to AWGE, invaded the stage to turn the party up while the Atlanta native performed “Long Time” from his 2018 Die Lit album.

Kendrick brought Playboi Carti out during the Atlanta stop of his Grand National Tour in April, and Carti returned the favor on Tuesday, surprising fans with a Lamar guest appearance during “GOOD CREDIT,” which sent the crowd into a frenzy.

“You know what this is/ The vamps and the boogies/ We jugg through the party,” Lamar raps in front of a sea of moshing fans and iPhone flashlights.

The Cardo-produced Music standout reached No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and cracked the top 10 of the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

Kendrick doesn’t pop out much, so it typically has to be a special occasion to catch him outside. He’s currently on a break from the Grand National Tour, which will head to Australia in December.

As for Carti, the Antagonist 2.0 Tour with Ken Carson and Destroy Lonely kicked off earlier this month, and is slated to hit Phoenix, Las Vegas, Denver, St. Paul, Brooklyn, Chicago, Detroit, Philly, Nashville and wrap up with a hometown performance in Atlanta in December.

On the music side, Playboi Carti has continued to tease his Baby Boi album, which remains without a release date. Back in April, DJ Swamp Izzo confirmed the project was “done.”

Dua Lipa Duets With Gwen Stefani At Fourth L.A. Show

by jummy84 October 10, 2025
written by jummy84

Dua Lipa has been peppering her in-progress North American arena tour with surprise guests and covers, and her just-concluded four-night run at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum was no different. At the final show last night (Oct. 8), the artist welcomed Gwen Stefani for a duet on No Doubt’s “Don’t Speak,” and the night before, she brought out Lionel Richie for a version of his ’80s hit “All Night Long.”

Before Stefani emerged, Lipa described her as “one of my personal heroes, one of my favorite artists, someone who I’ve grown up listening to my whole life, who’s influenced my music, influenced my style, someone who I love as a performer, and someone who just constantly keeps redefining herself and music. I just absolutely love that this incredible woman is here tonight.”

Lipa nodded to the California setting with a couple of covers during the run, including Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” on opening night and the Mamas & The Papas’ “California Dreamin’” at the following show. Artists such as Leon Bridges, Lenny Kravitz and Chaka Khan have made special appearances throughout the trek, which comes in support of Lipa’s 2024 album, Radical Optimism.

“Unreal scenes!!!,” Lipa later wrote on Instagram. “Very insane!!! Thank you for four beautiful nights in your city. I’ve loved every single moment.”

The North American leg of the Radical Optimism tour concludes Oct. 16 in Seattle and will be followed by a South American leg kicking off Nov. 7 in Buenos Aires.

Hailey Bieber Just Wore Fall 2025’s Official Uniform in L.A.

by jummy84 September 20, 2025
written by jummy84

Whereas summer is all about being carefree with your outfits and dressing based on your mood (and the weather, of course), fall, at least in my eyes, is far more uniform-friendly. As the days get darker, you want to be able to grab for pieces you know work together, no matter what. Usually, that means relying on some variation of jeans and a T-shirt. But, according to Hailey Bieber, there’s a new uniform taking precedent this fall. Sorry, denim, but your spot at the top of fall’s fashion food chain is currently occupied by black tailored pants, and when they’re combined with boatneck tees and kitten heels, the fall 2025 uniform takes shape.

The Rhode founder was spotted wearing the timeless outfit—comprised of slightly cropped cigarette pants, a white boatneck tee with three-quarter sleeves, and strappy kitten-heel sandals—at Sushi Park, where she celebrated her new Rhode billboard on Sunset Boulevard alongside Kendall and Kylie Jenner. She finished off the look with a pair of opticals and a Jil Sander Goji shoulder bag in black.

Celebrities like Bieber—including Laura Harrier, Kendall Jenner, Kaia Gerber, and more—have all seemingly made the switch from relying only on denim to wearing black pants and trousers, often styled with a kitten heel (like a ballet pump), and a casual, but elevated T-shirt. When early fall turns to late fall, expect oversized wool, tailored coats to come into play, as well as leather bombers, trenches, and more. Cashmere sweaters will be seen tossed over shoulders or worn on top of said boatneck tees.

What’s great about this uniform is how simple, yet high-end, it is. Unlike jeans, you can always wear black trousers in a nice restaurant or on a slightly more formal occasion. Even when paired with a T-shirt, it looks sophisticated and put-together. The shoe options are also endless, with kitten-heel sandals being a great option right now, and a mule with a similar heel height coming into play later on this fall.
