Ayushmann Khurrana Calls His Character in Sooraj Barjatya’s Film a Green Flag

by jummy84 November 12, 2025
written by jummy84

After the success of his recent film Thamma, Ayushmann Khurrana is preparing for his next big project with Sooraj Barjatya. He recently talked about his upcoming film and shared details about his character, whom he described as “simple, soft, and a green flag.”

During an interview with News 18, Ayushmann talked about his character in the film. He said, “You will be actually surprised that in Sooraj Barjatya’s film, the world is simpler and softer. Prem is that character who is simple, soft and a green flag. I would like to explore that part again.”

Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari are set to co-star for the first time in Sooraj Barjatya’s upcoming romantic family entertainer. According to a report from Mid Day, the next phase of filming is scheduled to start this week at Mehboob Studios in Mumbai. The production team anticipates completing principal photography by January 2026. The film, featuring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari, went on floors in Mumbai on November 1. Recently, images of the actors filming at a railway station was circulated on social media. They have since concluded a week-long song shoot in the city. Mid Day reports that Sooraj Barjatya and the film’s crew will now begin a 60-day start-to-finish schedule. This upcoming phase, beginning this week at Mehboob Studios, is primarily dedicated to capturing the dramatic and family-oriented sequences. The report also says that extensive indoor sets have been constructed across three floors of the studio.

The film is set to be produced by Rajshri Productions and Mahaveer Jain Films. Previously, in an interview with PTI, Sooraj Barjatya expressed his “nervousness” as the filming of the film approaches. He said, “I’ve this nervousness before the shoot of every film. This has been there even when I made my first film, Maine Pyaar Kiya, it’s still the same. As a creator, it’s not about how much box office it will do, it’s about whether you’re able to connect or not, with that thought or scene. For me, whether it’s a film or a show, everyone should feel that the world that I’m creating is honest, it shouldn’t look fake, like everyone should feel that this is how my house is. That is my biggest challenge. I want to make what I know, it’s important to make every kind of film, but it’s important to make family films.”

Thamma Ayushmann Khurrana Talks About His Box Office Achievements & Upcoming Sooraj Barjatya Film, “I Am A Quintessential Risk Taker…”

Exclusive: Ayushmann Khurrana Celebrates His 5th 100 Crore Film Thamma ( Photo Credit – Maddock Films )

Ayushmann Khurrana is currently enjoying the success of his horror comedy Thamma, also starring Rashmika Mandanna. Helmed by Aditya Sarpotdar, the film is the fifth offering of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, and it has led the MHCU to a 1000 crore total in India. Interestingly, Ayushmann is the only Indian actor of his generation who delivered two 100 crore films post-COVID!

The superstar, who is excited for the upcoming trajectory of MHCU, in an exclusive conversation with Koimoi, talked about his box office achievements and how he has never shied away from taking risks. He promised to continue taking risks with his upcoming line of films, which also includes Sooraj Barjatya’s next.

Ayushmann Khurrana On His Box Office Achievements!

The actor has delivered the 5th 100 crore grosser of his career, but Ayushmann emphasized being a pure artist at heart. Talking about delivering the highest-grossing standalone film of MHCU, the actor said, “I’m too right-brained to think about numbers. But one thing that numbers indicate is that you’re reaching out to as many people as possible, and for an artist, that’s very gratifying because what you want to do is for people, and their appreciation is the biggest appreciation.

Sequels Should Have Something To Say!

Discussing picking a sequel, the actor maintained, “I always believe you should not go for a sequel if you have nothing new to say.” However, is there a dilemma while picking a franchise that will work like the initial part? The Andhadhun actor affirms, “So if there’s a tight, ready script with something novel in there, which seamlessly segues to the next film, then of course, it should be an obvious sequel. But otherwise, just to gain something out of it, it doesn’t make sense. So I guess I’m for the freshness and uniqueness of scripts more than just going for sequels.

100 Crore Number Game – Not A Pressure!

Talking about delivering two 100 crore films in a post-pandemic world, Ayushmann Khurrana gladly credited it to his filmmakers. The actor said, “For me, numbers only indicate that you’re reaching as many people as possible. I also believe that I’m fortunate to work with very commercial minds like Dinesh Vijan, Amar Kaushik, Aditya Sarpotdar, and the previous films with Raj Chandel and Ekta Kapoor. I believe that this success, this 100 crore number game, makes me more courageous as an artist to take more risks, which I have taken pre-pandemic.”

He continues, “I would love to do films of that genre, which are probably not commercial, commercial (in quotes, on paper), but they still achieve a good feat at the box office. And, you know, commercial films like Dream Girl, Thamma, or future films like Pati Patni Aur Woh 2 or Sooraj Barjatya’s next film will make me more confident as a risk taker. Because I’m a quintessential risk taker, I will always do that.”

We wish the actor all the best of luck for his upcoming projects.

Stay tuned to Koimoi for exclusive interviews and Bollywood news.

They won hearts and left us wanting more with unexpected cameos and meta jokes. But the biggest highlight was the announcement of the next film in the universe, which flashed onscreen before Thamma’s screening — makers introduced Saiyaara star Aneet Padda as the leading lady of Shakti Shalini, the sixth film in Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik’s universe. Well, Ayushmann has now revealed that Aneet is very excited.

She texted me from there and she was like ‘I’m so excited for Thamma’ and stuff like that. And, very sweet of her. And I look forward to crossing paths with her in this universe.”

In his sweet Instagram post for Aneet, Ayushmann had written: “Welcome to the MHCU, @aneetpadda_ 🫶 Punjabi aa gaye oye!! From one dreamer to another – keep chasing what you want. Nothing is impossible.. so proud to see someone from Punjab making us all proud.. Can’t wait to see you shine in Shakti Shalini! What Ayushmann Khurrana Said About His ‘Andhadhun’ Salary Will Leave You Speechless! | Glamsham.com

by jummy84 October 31, 2025

Skyrocketing film budgets have become a talking point in the film industry these days, and high remunerations to lead actors are cited by filmmakers as one of the major reasons for this. There are often reports that actors’ remunerations alone eat up 60 to 70 percent of a movie’s budget, leaving hardly any scope for other costs. However, Ayushmann Khurrana thinks he belongs to a different league altogether when it comes to charging fees.

In a recent interview with Komal Nahta on his YouTube channel, the Dream Girl star shared that he has always prioritized creativity and collaboration over monetary gain. When asked how many times he has raised his pay since starting his career over thirteen years ago, Ayushmann admitted that he does not keep track of such matters. “It has increased, of course. My management would know more about that. I genuinely have no idea,” he said. “I am a Punjabi man and very artistic by nature. I am the purest from inside. My right brain works more, the left side of the brain doesn’t work much,” he added with a laugh.

The National Award-winning actor also reminisced about an interesting incident while working with Sriram Raghavan for the 2018 thriller Andhadhun. Ayushmann had offered to work for a token amount of Re 1 before the film was released. “I told Sriram sir to pay me just Re 1. I just wanted to work with him,” he said. Fortunately, Andhadhun became a huge critical and box-office success, performing very well in India and overseas, including China. The actor got his dues later with the profits of the film, hinting at a backend deal model.

Such arrangements—where stars take a reduced upfront fee against a share of a film’s profits—are common among Bollywood megastars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan, who often serve as co-producers on films. Ayushmann said he shares a similar philosophy, emphasizing teamwork and financial balance.

“For me, Saraswati comes before Laxmi. I am a producer-friendly actor. I never go all out while asking for my rate. My first priority is for the film to work. If the film earns well, then one should be paid more. Everyone has to come together and take this decision,” he explained.

In fact, Ayushmann is continuously very grounded and focuses on telling good stories amidst an industry that largely runs on numbers rather than stories.

Thamma box office collection day 6: Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films expanded its horror-comedy universe with Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The film is continuing to hold steady at the box office.

Thamma box office collection day 6: Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s horror comedy started on a strong note on Diwali.

Thamma box office update

According to trade tracking site Sacnilk, Thamma is performing well at the box office. On day six, which marked the first Sunday after its release, the film earned ₹13 crore, bringing its total collection to ₹91.70 crore.

The film, part of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, had started on a strong note on Diwali before slightly dipping over the weekdays. But it seems to be making a healthy recovery over the weekend now. In terms of occupancy, the film had an overall 23.19 per cent occupancy in Hindi on Sunday.

The supernatural-themed film saw a significant boost at the box office on its fifth day, earning ₹13.1 crore. This marked a 31 percent jump compared to the previous day, when the film had raked in ₹10 crore. The surge in collections suggests growing audience interest, indicating that the film is gaining momentum as it continues its theatrical run.

On Saturday, Thamma surpassed the lifetime box office collection of Varun Dhawan’s Maddock horror-comedy Bhediya, which had grossed ₹68.99 crore. Prior to this, the film had already overtaken the domestic earnings of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, which had earned ₹60.35 crore.

The film is working well overseas as well. Thamma has crossed the ₹100 crore mark in terms of worldwide earnings in five days.

All about Thamma

Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma stars Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui as vampires, with Ayushmann playing a journalist caught in the midst of their bloody battle. The film comes with several surprise cameo appearances from other actors in the MHCU, including Varun Dhawan.

Thamma is the fifth instalment in Maddock’s horror-comedy universe after Stree (2018), Bhediya (2022), Munjya and Stree 2 (both 2024). Produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik, the film is described as a bloody love story. It was released on October 21.

Ayushmann Khurrana Welcomes Aneet Padda to MHCU As Shakti Shalini, Actress Responds

by jummy84 October 26, 2025

The latest addition to the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe is Aneet Padda. Her role in the upcoming film Shakti Shalini was confirmed during the post-credit scene of Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s Thamma. Now, Khurrana has officially welcomed the Saiyaara star in the MHCU and penned a lovely note for her.

Expressing his joy over a fellow Punjabi bagging a big project, Ayushmann wrote, “Welcome to the MHCU @aneetpadda_ Punjabi aa gaye oye!! From one dreamer to another- keep chasing what you want. Nothing is impossible.. so proud to see someone from Punjab making us all proud.. Can’t wait to see you shine in Shakti Shalini! Onwards and upwards Aneet.”

Along with the note, he shared a screenshot of the post credit scene that announced Aneet as the lead in Shakti Shalini.

The actress reposted this and wrote, “Khurrana ji da munda is making waves like always

thank you so much, it’s a little extra special coming from someone I look up to so much. So so grateful for the warm welcome @ayushmannk”

Aneet’s casting in the film was confirmed after a lot of speculation and needless to say, her fans were elated. The actress was introduced along with the tag line of the film that read, “The protector. The destroyer. The mother of all.” Talking about roping in the Saiyaara star, filmmaker Amar Kaushik, who is an important part of the MHCU, told Filmfare, “We wanted someone younger for that character, someone who doesn’t have a baggage. We wanted a character like that and it evolved as we kept writing. She is also a very good actor. Not just Saiyaara, but I have seen her work besides that. She caught things really well during the screen test and the reading. We had brought in Abhay Verma in Munjya (2024), who was very new at that time. But he went well with the character, so we stuck to him. That’s our thing.”

Shakti Shalini will be released on December 24 next year.

Following the success of her debut film Saiyaara, Aneet Padda has been cast as the lead in Shakti Shalini, the sixth installment of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU). Fans first caught a glimpse of her character in the post-credits scene of Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna. The scene introduced a mysterious woman in a white lehenga, floating mid-air in a dense forest, her long braid swaying in the wind. While her face wasn’t visible, viewers quickly speculated that it was Aneet, signaling her grand entry into the horror-comedy franchise.

Ayushmann Khurrana welcomed her to the MHCU via Instagram stories, writing, “Welcome to the MHCU @aneetpadda_ Punjabi aa gaye oye!! From one dreamer to another—keep chasing what you want. Nothing is impossible… so proud to see someone from Punjab making us all proud. Can’t wait to see you shine in Shakti Shalini! Onwards and upwards, Aneet.” The post garnered excitement among fans, celebrating Aneet’s addition to the popular franchise.

Initially, reports had suggested Kiara Advani might play the lead, but it was Aneet Padda, lauded for her screen presence and emotional depth in Saiyaara, who ultimately secured the role. In the film, she is introduced as “Shakti Shalini — the creator, the destroyer, and the mother of all.” Director Amar Kaushik shared that while developing the script, they realised a younger actor was needed, and Aneet’s performance in Saiyaara made her the perfect fit.

This marks Aneet’s second feature film, and anticipation is high as fans await her performance in the supernatural yet humorous universe of MHCU.

Thamma worldwide box office collection day 4: Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s film is inching close to the ₹100 crore mark.

Thamma worldwide box office collection day 4: Even as Thamma is facing some slowdown at the box office over the weekdays, the Maddock Films horror comedy continues to gallop towards the ₹100-crore mark worldwide. After an impressive start at the domestic box office, the film picked up pace overseas too on Thursday and Friday, solidifying its chances of a good lifetime haul.

Thamma worldwide box office collection day 4: Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna star in this horror comedy.

Thamma worldwide box office update

Thamma, a vampire story, earned ₹65.15 crore net ( ₹78.20 crore gross) in India over the first four days of its release. This included a more-than-impressive ₹24 crore start on Diwali, followed by a continuous decline over the next three weekdays. To its credit, the film managed to avoid too large a drop in collections on any of those days, limiting the dips to 25% or under. But even then, its daily collection was down to ₹9.55 crore net by Friday.

However, overseas, the film reversed the trend. In the first two days of release, Thamma barely managed to scratch the surface of overseas collections as it did not get the benefit of a festive release outside India (Diwali is not a holiday in most major international markets). But as the weekend arrived, Thamma picked up pace. It has now earned almost $1.6 million in the overseas territories in four days, and is promising to go past the $3 million mark in the first week itself.

This takes Thamma’s worldwide collection after four days to an impressive ₹93 crore. On Friday, it surpassed the lifetime collection of Maddock’s recent romantic comedy Bhool Chuk Maaf, which ended its run at ₹89 crore worldwide. The film is now set to cross the ₹100 crore mark on Saturday.

All about Thamma

Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma is the story of a journalist (Ayushmann Khurrana) who gets caught up in the power struggle of vampires (Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui). The film is part of the larger Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, and is hence connected to the Stree films, Bhediya, and Munjya. It has been praised for its humour, visual effects, and starry cameos.
