Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan Reunite For Sundar C’s Thalaivar 173

Superstar Rajinikanth is all set for his next. Currently simply known as Thalaivar 173, the magnum opus will be produced by Kamal Haasan’s RaajKamal Films International and directed by Sundar C. The makers took to social media on Wednesday to announce the film alongside a picture of the two superstars who earlier worked together on several films together such as Apoorva Raagangal, Ilamai Oonjal Aadukirathu, Moondru Mudichu and Aval Appadithaan.

Taking to their social media handles, Raaj Kamal Films International announced the news with a statement reading, “Superstar Rajinikanth is set to headline in the magnum opus #Thalaivar173, under Kamal Haasan’s RaajKamal Films International banner directed by Sundar C.”

It further read, “This landmark collaboration not only unites two towering forces of Indian cinema but also celebrates five decades of friendship and brotherhood between Superstar Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan — a bond that continues to inspire generations of artists and audiences alike.” The statement further stated, “Commemorating 44 years of Raajkamal Films International, #Thalaivar173 unites Superstar Rajinikanth’s magnetic screen presence with Sundar C’s direction, in a landmark production envisioned by Kamal Haasan and R. Mahendran.”

Talking about its release date, the makers noted, “Thalaivar173 is slated for a grand theatrical release through Red Giant Movies during Pongal 2027.”

On the work front, Rajinikanth is currently filming the sequel to his 2023 blockbuster, Jailer. Titled Jailer 2, the actioner is directed by Nelson and will the veteran star his role as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. Shiva Rajkumar and Mohanlal are expected to make cameo appearances in it.

Kamal Haasan hails 4-year-old Treesha Thosar on National Award win, which broke his own record: ‘My loudest applause…’

Kamal Haasan heaped praise on child actor Treesha Thosar for winning the National Award. Check out his note.

The National Film Awards were held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, where stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Vikrant Massey, and Rani Mukerji were awarded in the Best Actor category. But if there was someone who stole the show at the ceremony, it would be Marathi child actor Treesha Thosar (4)- who went on stage in a white saree and collected her award with a cute smile. Her presence drew the loudest cheer from the audience.

Kamal Haasan congratulates Treesha Thosar

Kamal took to his X account and wrote, “Dear Ms. Treesha Thoshar, my loudest applause goes to you. You’ve beaten my record, as I was already six when I got my first award! Way to go madam. Keep working on your incredible talent. My appreciation to your elders in the house.”

For the unversed, Kamal was 6 years old when he was awarded the Rashtrapati Award (President’s gold medal) for his performance in Kalathur Kannamma (1960).

Meanwhile, the X account of Raaj Kamal Films International released a video where Kamal was seen talking to the child actor via a video call. He told Treesha to keep in touch and continue with the good work, while she thanked the actor for the wishes. “From One Child Prodigy to another @ikamalhaasan Sir himself has congratulated #TreeshaThosar for winning her first National award. What a moment for Indian cinema. #KamalHaasan Sir won his first #NationalAward at 6, now Treesha Thosar at 4! Congratulations, Treesha—you are already inspiring the nation!” read the caption.

Treesha Thosar won the Best Child Artist award for her role as Chimi (Revati) in the film Naal 2. Treesha won the award in the category along with Sukriti Bandireddi for Gandhi Thatha Chettu, Kabir Khandare for Gypsy, and Shrinivas Pokale, Bhargav for Naal 2.

Syam Pushkaran Steps Into Tamil Cinema With Kamal Haasan’s KH 237

National Award–winning screenwriter Syam Pushkaran, best known for his sharp and humane storytelling in Malayalam cinema, is all set to make his Tamil debut. He has been roped in as the writer for KH 237, Kamal Haasan’s upcoming action film directed by the stunt-choreographer duo Anbariv.

A Celebrated Writer Crosses Over

Pushkaran first caught attention with Aashiq Abu’s Salt N’ Pepper and went on to pen modern classics like Iyobinte Pusthakam (2014), Maheshinte Prathikaaram (2016), Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum (2017), Kumbalangi Nights (2019), Joji (2021), and most recently Rifle Club (2024). Having collaborated with Abu on half of his projects, Pushkaran has built a reputation for crafting layered characters and nuanced drama. His entry into a large-scale Tamil actioner marks a striking new chapter in his career.



For fans, the big question now is how Pushkaran’s delicate narrative touch will blend with Anbariv’s trademark adrenaline-charged style. The marriage of intimate writing and explosive action could be the unique selling point of KH 237.

Kamal, Anbariv & The Road Ahead

The project will see Kamal Haasan headline the actioner while also backing it under his banner Raaj Kamal Films International. Known for constantly reinventing himself, Haasan is coming off the release of Thug Life earlier this year. Meanwhile, the future of Indian 3 remains uncertain after the lukewarm reception of Indian 2 in 2024 — making KH 237 an important film for the actor both creatively and commercially.

Directors Anbariv, the twin brothers Anbumani and Arivumani, are household names in South Indian cinema for their action design. Their stunt work in Vikram and Thug Life drew particular praise, and with KH 237 they are stepping into the director’s chair for the first time. Their reputation ensures that the action quotient will be sky-high.

With Syam Pushkaran now steering the script, anticipation is mounting around the film’s tone. Will it be a gritty action drama with emotional heft, or an all-out spectacle with a fresh narrative twist? The official announcements so far have been tight-lipped, but the creative team assembled suggests something ambitious is in the works.

When Amitabh Bachchan Shelved An Entire Film After Shooting With Kalki 2898 AD Co-Star Kamal Haasan!

Kalki 2898 AD made waves when it was released in 2024. The Nag Ashwin-directed sci-fi film mostly earned accolades for two characters who acted as the strong walls of this fort. No, not Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, but Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan.

While Big B plays Ashwatthama, the cursed warrior from Mahabharata, Ulaganayagan plays Yaskin, ruler of the complex in 2898 AD, the antagonist of the film. The two veterans, take the film to another level.

While the duo have earned immense praise for their performances in Kalki 2898 AD, there was once a time when Amitabh Bachchan reportedly felt threatened by Kamal Haasan’s acting prowess and popularity, so much so that he went to the extent of shelving a film where he felt Haasan would overshadow him!

What Happened Between Amitabh Bachchan & Kamal Haasan?

This tale goes back to the time of 80s when Big B was at his peak in Indian Cinema while Kamal Haasan was growing with every film he starred in. They came together for a film that was titled Khabardar, and was being directed by T Rama Rao. The film was a social drama between a terminally ill patient and a doctor, where Big B played the doctor. It also starred Jaya Prada and Sridevi in the lead.

However, after major portions of the film were shot, it was shelved abruptly. In an interview, Kamal Haasan in the late 90s revealed that the film was stopped midway, and he was given half remuneration as well. Much later, in another interview, director K Bhagyaraj revealed what happened to Khabardar and that it had something to do with Amitabh Bachchan.

In an interview quoted by TOI, the director revealed, “According to the script, Kamal Haasan has to die, and only then would it be apt for the story. But then Kamal Haasan will have all the names from the film, and Amitabh’s character will not stand in people’s minds much. This didn’t sit well with Amitabh, and he said he couldn’t do the film and didn’t want to spoil the name he had made over the years for one film. He then offered bulk dates to the producers of Khabardar as compensation.”

Khabardar never got made, but the two actors came together for a film titled Geraftar in 1985.

What Next For Amitabh Bachchan? 

Big B’s last big screen role was in Rajinikanth-led Vettaiyan, where he played Dr. Sathyadev Bramhadutt Pande. He is reported to appear next in a voiceover role, playing Jatayu, in the highly-anticipated Ramayana: Part 1. The superstar also continues hosting Kaun Banega Crorepati on Sony.

What Next For Kamal Haasan?

Haasan recently appeared in the Mani Ratnam-directed movie Thug Life, which unfortunately turned out to be a disappointment. According to TOI, he is reportedly teaming up with Veera Dheeran Sooran director SU Arun Kumar for his next project.
