Kaia Gerber’s Trainer Kirsty Godso Says Channeling Lara Croft’s Style at the Gym Is the Ultimate Workout Hack

The gym is where celebrity trainer Kirsty Godso starts to have fun. The fitness pro, who counts It-girls like Kaia Gerber, Hailey Bieber, Olivia Rodrigo, Charli XCX, and Ayo Edebiri as clients, sat down with ET at the A Day in the Life at Vuori event in Carlsbad, California, on Nov. 17 to share what goes into her sweat sessions.

But before you even pick up a dumbbell, Godso says the ultimate warm up starts in your closet.

“How you feel in your clothes is so important when you’re going into a workout because if you feel uncomfortable, that’s an energy and emotion you’re carrying with you into everything,” she explains.

Her current style muse: Angelina Jolie in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, inspired by Gerber’s recent collaboration with the activewear brand.

“Kaia came into the gym in a Lara Croft look with a baby tee and micro biker shorts and I was obsessed. … Vuori’s baby tees are not to be slept on, and I love the low-rise mini shorts because women tend to be insecure about wearing shorts in general, so making this style was a bold decision, but they have flown off the shelves. It’s empowering to see women own their bodies,” she notes.

And the confidence you get from looking the part translates directly into your workout.

“It’s great that Kaia can work hard in the gym, but she can do it in double layered camis and shorts instead of typical performance looking wear,” Godso adds.

As for what the model’s routine entails? It’s safe to say Croft would approve.

“Kaia is so fit, competitive, coordinated, and driven. … The bulk of our sessions is about strength training, then we add in spicy, athletic style mat Pilates for lengthening and stability, and finish with calculated cardio. … She sprints so fast on a curved treadmill and lifts heavy weights.”

Of course, the trainer also keeps things fun with her upbeat and playful coaching style.

“I’m very energetic, intuitive, and have a funny sense of humor. I love to work out, but I’m not going to push that on you in a cringe way. … It’s the perfect amount of drill sergeant meets cheerleader. I love to hold people accountable and lift them up at the same time. I want everyone to feel good in their bodies,” the New Zealand native shares.

Godso brings that same vibe to her digital platform, Pyro.

“What I love about Pyro is that it has a gym component and a studio component with over 100 classes. … You can go into a program, which will guide you into doing various modalities, or choose to do à la carte.”

And regardless of Godso’s exercise regimen, she’s sure to show up in chic athleisure wear.

“I’m always in sport mode, not only for my job, but in my personal style too. It’s elevated casual mixed with tomboy, and lately, I’m leaning into my femininity. … I’ve been living in Vuori’s wide leg sweats and hoodies, but I’ll put a halter on underneath. I love that I can do both.”

How Kaia Gerber Plans a Party Outfit Once She RSVPs ‘Yes’

Party season is upon us—and so too is the influx of outfit conundrums it brings. Allow Dress Code to demystify and debunk what to wear when and where, and how to wear it, as advised by those whose innate style never fails to inspire and influence.

Kaia Gerber is not immune to the sinking feeling of pulling up to a party and second guessing your look. The supermodel and actress—who’s back in the spotlight as the face of Mango’s Craft Your Own Story concept and party collection—might be a regular on the world’s most prominent red carpets, but her approach to putting an outfit together is as relatable as it gets. A fan of an easily-replicated formula as much as she is loyal to failsafe closet staples and time-honored silhouettes, here’s her sage advice for getting party-ready in a pinch.

Vogue: When you want to feel confident, what boxes does your outfit need to tick?

I feel the most confident when I go back to the safe bets, and for me, that is always wearing black. If all else fails, I’ll just put a black suit on.

What dress code fills you with dread, and what’s your workaround for that?

I typically hate black tie, it stresses me out. My workaround is having brands or designers who have impeccable taste that I can lean on to help. In a fitting before an event, I typically go towards the classic silhouettes: anything from the ‘90s or ‘60s.

What about a themed dress code? Are you creative when it comes to costumes?

I grew up in a family that went all out for Halloween and I usually didn’t get to choose my own Halloween costume because it was always a family costume. So now I love costume parties, dressing up, and being creative—but I don’t go quite as hard as I used to. I try to figure out a costume that I can make with what I already have and one that doesn’t require hair and makeup.

What’s a dinner party outfit you like to rinse and repeat?

Apart from a black suit, I’ve been gravitating towards black mini dresses with tights and a pump lately. You can’t go wrong with that. I also love dressing in dichotomies, so I will pair a black tuxedo with hoop earrings and a more feminine shoe, or something lacy underneath.

Kaia Gerber Wore the New Stiletto Ballet Pumps Trend in Paris

Ballet pumps are anything but new, nor are they experiencing a “comeback.” They’ve been in. But a new style has quietly entered the fashion scene in recent weeks that is newsworthy, especially now that Kaia Gerber’s given it her stamp of approval.

The model, actress, and Repetto repeater (from the Cendrillon to the Camille) was seen in Paris, leaving the Costes Hotel at the end of Paris Fashion Week alongside fellow supermodel Vittoria Ceretti. For the occasion, Gerber donned a perfect night-out-in-Paris ensemble made up of a silky black minidress, sheer tights, and black pumps. But not just any pumps. She wore Repetto ballet stiletto pumps, or a kitten heel similar to a traditional ballet pump, but instead of a block heel, they feature a skinny stiletto heel, giving them a more evening-ready, sleek look.

Specifically, Gerber donned a pair of Cendrillon Pointy 45 mm Pumps, which have a slightly pointed toe, but otherwise share most of the same features of the traditional Cendrillon ballet flats (plus the 45 mm stiletto heel, of course). Though she selected classic black, her silhouette also comes in burgundy patent leather, and Repetto also makes a taller, 75 mm version.

Her night-time ballet flats alternative is a style we’re beginning to see pop up at all our favorite shoe brands, including Mansur Gavriel. Other labels like The Row and Miu Miu are leaning into heeled versions of ballet flats as well, opting for thicker heels, but still offering a more refined look than traditional ballet pumps. At Chanel’s Metiers d’Art show, the brand presented a pair of luxurious satin ballet pumps, which are now, at last, available. Clearly, this isn’t a shoe trend that’s going anywhere anytime soon.

If you agree, keep scrolling to shop Gerber’s ballet stiletto pumps in more colors, as well as other similar styles.
