“You have to protect yourself and the children in case the worst comes to light…” Paramount+ has unveiled an official trailer for a new mini-series titled Little Disasters, adapted from the book of the same name by Sarah Vaughan. This six-part psychological thriller series will premiere all episodes starting in December. When perfect stay-at-home Jess rushes her baby to the ER with a head injury, she’s treated by one of her closest friends, Liz. Alarmed by Jess’ behavior, Liz calls social services, triggering an major chain of events – that ripples, fractures and nearly destroys not only their families but also their entire friendship group. Directed by BAFTA nominee Eva Sigurðardóttir (Good Night, Rainbow Party), the series pairs realism and suspense to create an intimate yet unnerving portrait of modern motherhood. Anchored by Diane Kruger, the ensemble cast also includes Jo Joyner, Shelley Conn, Emily Taaffe, JJ Feild, Ben Bailey Smith, Patrick Baladi, & Stephen Campbell Moore. This series looks like it gets as intense as the other British parents series Adolescence, but this time focused on mothers feuding with other mothers. It’s worth a look.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Paramount+’s series Little Disasters, direct from YouTube:

The intimate mini-series Little Disasters focuses on a decade-long friendship among Jess (Diane Kruger), Liz (Jo Joyner), Charlotte (Shelley Conn) & Mel (Emily Taaffe), four expectant mothers who were thrown together with little in common apart from their due dates but have been there for one another throughout motherhood. However, when perfect stay-at-home mother Jess takes her baby daughter to hospital with a head injury that she can’t explain, her close friend and on-duty ER doctor Liz must make the excruciating decision of whether to call social services. With one phone call, Liz sets in motion a chain of events that ripples, fractures and nearly destroys not only their families but also their entire friendship group. Little Disasters is a series created and written by Ruth Fowler (of “Rules of the Game” series). With additional writing by Amanda Duke; adapted from the bestselling novel by Sarah Vaughan. With episodes directed by Icelandic filmmaker Eva Sigurðardóttir (of the series “Fractures”, “Domino Day: Lone Witch”). Executive produced by Marianna Abbotts, Sarah Vaughan, Ash Atalla, Simon Judd, Alex Smith. Paramount will debut Little Disasters streaming on Paramount+ starting December 11th, 2025 coming soon. From the Archives: The Fast—and Fashionable—Florence Griffith Joyner

“Go with the Flo,” by Stephanie Mansfield, was originally published in the April 1989 issue of Vogue.

For more of the best from Vogue’s archive, sign up for our Nostalgia newsletter here.

She streaked across our television screens in fuchsia and lime, all hair and lips and eyes with those nails; you would swear you were watching a Solid Gold dancer, not the winner of three gold medals in last summer’s Olympic games.

She is Flo-Jo, the fastest and flashiest ever to come out of the starting block. She can outrun O. J. Simpson, do three thousand sit-ups at a time, as well as partial squats holding 320 pounds, all without disturbing her ladylike pearl stud earrings, and still find time to stencil tiny palm trees and sparkling things on her fingernails. Blessed with speed and style and defiant sexuality, Florence Griffith Joyner has broken down the barrier between vanity and athletic prowess and is living proof that one needn’t cancel out the other.

“You can sweat and still look nice doing it,” says Griffith Joyner, taking time out from packing for a trip to Europe to talk about her eccentric fashion sense on the track and field, an arena where she sprints into home-stretch in a grape spandex one-legger under patterned bikini bottoms, her lips glossed a high raspberry sheen. “I love bright colors,” she says. “There’s a lot of energy there. The color fires me up.”

At twenty-nine, Griffith Joyner is disciplined and direct, with a girlish laugh and a voice currently undergoing diction lessons, the promise of lucrative film and TV offers looming in her future. (There are also acting and dialogue coaches.) Her hair is often a massive tangle of black curls, her nails are expertly polished, her huge brown eyes peer out from spidery lashes, and her skin is cocoa-butter smooth. On her left hand is a diamond ring on which Brian Boitano could do figure eights. And those legs! She has thigh muscles to rival the best in the NFL, and arms like two pump-action carbines. G.I. Flo.

As a child, growing up in the projects of Los Angeles, Griffith A Joyner liked to wear hair ribbons and play dress-up. Appearance was always important. Her mother insisted her hair be combed, her face washed, tier clothes pressed. She also became devoted to a succession of Barbie dolls. “We don’t just play with those dolls,” she reflects. “They have something to do with how we feel about life and how we look at other women.” Young Dee Dee, as her family called her, escaped the pain of poverty with a fantasy world of beauty and cosmetics. “I remember doing a lot of dolls’ hair. I destroyed a lot of dolls putting my mom’s hot curlers on them. I burned up so many of them.”

EastEnders responds to calls for Jo Joyner return as Tanya Cross

However, one person who remains absent but is often mentioned is Max’s ex-wife and the mother of Lauren and Oscar, Tanya Cross (Jo Joyner).

Originally appearing as a regular character from 2006 to 2013, Tanya was last seen struggling outside the funeral of her and Max’s youngest daughter, Abi Branning (Lorna Fitzgerald), during a guest appearance in 2018.

Tanya has been mentioned recently as she’s washed her hands of troubled son Oscar, while Max revealed in flashbacks to Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) that their granddaughter Abi Branning Jr. is staying with her now.

Of course, Joyner remains a very busy actress and is often on our screens, but could we dare to hope for a return for the beloved Tanya?

” alt=”A promo image in front of the Walford East tube station set consisting of smiling, from left to right, Pierre Moullier, Jacqueline Jossa, Ben Wadey, Jake Wood, and Scott Maslen for EastEnders.” classes=””] ” alt=”A promo image in front of the Walford East tube station set consisting of smiling, from left to right, Pierre Moullier, Jacqueline Jossa, Ben Wadey, Jake Wood, and Scott Maslen for EastEnders.” classes=””] Executive producer Ben Wadey (centre) stands between the Branning family, consisting of Oscar Branning (Pierre Moullier, far left), Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa, second from left), Max Branning (Jake Wood, second from right), and Jack Branning (Scott Maslen, far right). BBC Pictures/Jack Barnes

Speaking at a press event on the set of the soap, executive producer Ben Wadey remained full of praise for Joyner but did note there was already an embarrassment of riches in the cast.

Responding to my question on a potential Tanya return, Wadey laughed: “We’ve just given you Max and Zoe!”

He did continue: “Yeah, I mean, Jo’s amazing, isn’t she? We’ve also got an amazing cast with brilliant performances that deserve and need stories…”

Actor Scott Maslen then humorously interjected: “We need a bit of naughty Max first, don’t we? Yeah, we need him back for a while and let her come and sort him out.”

So, we’re not letting our hope of a Tanya comeback die just yet!

There’s certainly enough drama on the way for Walford in the meantime…
