“You’re in a different world when you’re in tree world.” 🎄🎄 Prime Video has revealed the amusing official trailer for The Merchants of Joy, a new documentary film made by filmmaker Celia Aniskovich. This is premiering soon at the 2025 DOC NYC Film Festival in the Big Apple and will also debut on Prime Video for streaming in December just after. It’s that time of year again! Get your glamorous green holiday decoration before they sell out! The film follows five NYC families as they source, bargain and hustle to sell Christmas trees, blending street smarts and holiday spirit. Described as “a warm, grounded portrait of pride, grit, and the joy they bring — one tree, one customer, one season at a time.” Anyone who has been in New York City around Christmastime has seen so many of these sellers out on street corners everywhere. I love the smell of pine trees and it’s always so exciting to try and find the perfect one for your home. This doc looks like it’s as much about the intense rivalry between these sellers as it is about the magic of Christmas trees. Looks good.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Celia Aniskovich’s doc film The Merchants of Joy, from YouTube:

In the city that never sleeps, five families hustle each winter to turn sidewalks into holiday outposts. The Merchants of Joy follows these Christmas die-hards as they source, sell, and safeguard a family tradition at risk. It’s a warm, grounded portrait of pride, grit, and the joy they bring—one tree, one customer, one season at a time. The Merchants of Joy is directed by the journalist / doc filmmaker Celia Aniskovich, director of the films Burn It Down!, Fruitcake Fraud, and Call Me Miss Cleo previously, plus other short films & projects. Based on The Epic Magazine & New York Magazine Article, “Secrets of the Christmas Tree Trade” by Owen Long. It’s produced by Celia Aniskovich, Zoe Vock, Arthur Spector, Joshua Davis, Joshuah Bearman. This is premiering at the 2025 DOC NYC Film Festival this month. Amazon debuts The Merchants of Joy streaming on Prime Video starting December 1st, 2025 coming soon. Anyone want to watch this?

Are Crush and Joy Still Dating Each Other?

by jummy84 November 5, 2025
written by jummy84

Crush and Joy are still happily together. The couple, who started dating in 2021, recently silenced breakup rumours with a sweet moment at Joy’s younger sister’s wedding on October 18, 2025. The moment impressed their fans as many lauded the couple for being with each other despite their busy idol careers.

For those unaware, speculation about their split began late last year due to their busy schedules. However, Crush’s touching gesture at the wedding proved otherwise. An attendee shared that the singer performed the congratulatory song for Joy’s sister. He showed his support for his girlfriend’s family.

Earlier, on I Live Alone, Joy mentioned feeling nervous about singing at her sister’s wedding. However, it seems Crush took the stage instead, performing his hit OST Beautiful from Guardian: The Lonely and Great God.

Many photos and videos from the event showed Crush in a neat sweater and glasses. He was serenading guests with his warm vocals and presence.

Crush and Joy first met while collaborating on Mayday in 2020. Their agencies, SM Entertainment and P NATION, confirmed their relationship in August 2021, saying they had grown close after working together and developed mutual feelings. “They had a senior-junior relationship initially, but they recently began dating with good feelings towards each other.” However, the two kept their relationship private. Fans kept speculating about their whereabouts, but the couple did not disclose their personal plans to the public.

On the professional front, both Crush and Joy haven’t updated their fans about their upcoming projects yet. However, Joy recently released an album called From Joy, with Love. Opening up about it, she said, “Releasing an album that fully expresses my emotions once felt vague and daunting, but thanks to so many people who helped me, I’m just filled with gratitude these days… Since I put everything into preparing this album, I hope many people will listen and love it.”

Janus Films Acquires Nathan Silver’s Carol Kane Doc Short Carol & Joy

by jummy84 November 4, 2025
written by jummy84

Janus Films has acquired all U.S. rights to “Carol & Joy,” a vérité documentary short featuring Oscar-nominated actress Carol Kane and her 98-year-old mother, Joy.

The film — directed by Nathan Silver (“Between the Temples”) — had its world premiere at the 2025 Telluride Film Festival and continued its fall festival run at the New York Film Festival, Hamptons International Film Festival and Woodstock Film Festival. It had its international premiere at the Viennale.

“Carol & Joy” will now debut exclusively on the Criterion Channel on Dec. 1, 2025. Janus will be supporting the film’s efforts for best documentary short category at the 2026 Academy Awards.

On New York’s Upper West Side, Kane lives with her 98-year-old mother Joy, an active music teacher, former dancer, and lifelong Francophile. In this intimate short vérité documentary shot on 16mm, the filmmaking team behind the acclaimed “Between the Temples” —  for which Kane was recently nominated for a Spirit Award — visit the pair in their home for an afternoon of music and friends and stories.

The film is produced by Jamie Gonçalves (“Predators, “Dos estaciones”), C. Mason Wells (“Between the Temples,” “Thirst Street”), Dweck Productions’ Hannah Dweck and Theodore Schaefer (“Maddie’s Secret,” “The Adults”), and Brian Liebman (“Brats,” “The Featherweight”). Executive producers include Natalie Portman and Sophie Mas’ MountainA (“May December,” “Arco”) and Diane Lanyi (“Between the Temples”). The film was shot in the tradition of legendary cinema vérité makers Albert and David Maysles by Sean Price Williams (“Good Time,” “The Sweet East”) and Hunter Zimny (“Funny Pages”).

“We filmed Carol & Joy on 16mm in a single New York City apartment, using an observational and conversational style indebted to our verite nonfiction heroes from the ‘60s and ‘70s,” said Silver. “I think every one of the documentaries that inspired us is — of course! — in the Janus Films library and streaming on the Criterion Channel. It’s an unbelievable honor for our film to be welcomed to live alongside these greats in the same beautiful building.”

Kane’s career has spanned five decades. She was nominated for best actress at the Academy Awards for “Hester Street,” won two Emmy Awards and earned a Golden Globe nomination for her work on the television series “Taxi,” and garnered an Emmy nomination for “Chicago Hope.” She was also a series regular on the Netflix series “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and “Hunters.”

“Between the Temples, which world premiered in competition at the Sundance Film Festival, was released by Sony Pictures Classics in 2024. The film was nominated for Best Screenplay at the Gotham Awards and won Kane the New York Film Critics Circle Award for best supporting actress.

Janus Films recently announced the acquisitions of Sophy Romvari’s acclaimed debut feature “Blue Heron,” Carla Simon’s 2025 Cannes selections “Romeria,” auteur Lav Diaz’s latest “Magellan,” the Cannes award-winning “Resurrection” from director Bi Gan, Hlynur Pálmason’s “The Love That Remains,” Sergei Loznitsa’s acclaimed “Two Prosecutors,” and Ira Sachs’ Sundance and New York Film Festival selection “Peter Hujar’s Day.”

Katy Perry’s Heartwarming Gesture: Bringing Joy To Young Fans In Need! | Glamsham.com

Katy Perry made her London stop on the Lifetimes Tour unforgettable — not just with music, but with compassion. During her October 13 show at The O2, the 40-year-old singer shared a touching moment with nine seriously ill children, a gesture captured by ITV’s This Morning.

Before taking the stage, Perry met each child backstage, taking time to learn their names, ages, and favourite things. Dressed in bright, colourful outfits, the children waited patiently for the pop star, their excitement visible. Katy posed for photos, offered warm encouragement, and created deeply personal moments with each of them, according to People.

One of the children was nine-year-old Florrie Bark, a cancer survivor who also founded a charity called Bemorefab, supporting other children battling the disease. Her mother, Stacy, described the experience as “one day where they weren’t just patients worrying about their next treatment,” adding, “This will stay with us forever.”

This gesture aligns with Perry’s ongoing charitable work through the Firework Foundation, which she has supported since 2018. The foundation runs Camp Firework, a creative sleep-away camp designed to inspire and uplift middle school children.

Perry’s Lifetimes Tour began in April in Mexico City, in support of her latest album 143, and has since spanned North America, Australia, and Europe. Her global tour has been a resounding success — shows in China sold out within minutes, with extra dates added in Shanghai. Due to overwhelming demand in Paris, two more concerts were added and quickly sold out. In South America, Perry will perform three consecutive stadium shows for the first time in her career.

The London concert demonstrated that Katy Perry’s tour is more than entertainment — it’s about making a difference. By taking time for children facing health battles, she created memories that will last a lifetime, reinforcing her commitment to using her platform for good.

Is joy recession proof? Only 22% would give up live entertainment if financially squeezed

by jummy84 September 30, 2025
written by jummy84

New report from AEG unveils the unparalleled power of live music and events in the UK

  • 46% of live music fans prioritise spending on live entertainment even during times of economic uncertainty
  • Feelings of excitement (70%), joy (63%) and even euphoria (32%) make fans unwilling to cut live event expenditure
  • The halo effect has seen one in two fans make a purchase decision based on a brand’s association with a live music event
  • Consumer attention at live events greater than when speaking with family and friends

As a nation of live entertainment fanatics1, nearly half (46%) of live music fans2 prioritise spending on live entertainment, even during times of economic uncertainty. Consumers are unwilling to forgo opportunities to feel positive emotions, like joy and excitement, and make lasting memories.

According to The Live Effect – a new report from AEG Global Partnerships, the sponsorship arm of the world leader in live sport and entertainment, which investigates the power of live music for consumers and brands in the UK – only one in five (22%) would cut live entertainment if they needed to reduce their spending due to financial pressures. Consumers are more likely to cut spending on luxury grocery items (41%), dining out (31%), fitness memberships (30%) and even international holidays (30%) to hold onto live experiences.

Among dedicated live music fans, who have attended at least six shows in the past three years, only 16% would give up live entertainment – ranking it 13th out of 14 categories on the chopping block and highlighting the value music-loving consumers place on live events.

The feel-good factor

Strategy experts from AEG’s Global Partnerships division put the inclination to prioritise live events down to the impact of positive emotions. Anticipation builds from the moment of booking, with 59% feeling highly excited when purchasing live music tickets – second only to booking a holiday (70%).

When attending events, music fans feel excitement (70%), joy (63%) and even euphoria (32%). Many also feel a sense of freedom (35%), inspiration (35%) and nostalgia (34%). For all but 2% of fans, these feelings extend far beyond events themselves, with around one in five (22%) agreeing that the positive emotions become lasting memories.

Halo effect

Positive emotions and cherished memories ensure that live music remains a high priority despite economic instability and high inflation, but they also create a halo effect for brands who can elevate experiences. Nearly half (49%) of fans have made a purchase decision based on a brand’s association with a live entertainment event, increasing among traditionally hard-to-reach Gen Z and Millennials consumers (73% and 65% respectively).

Heightened emotions at live music events also impact attention. The Live Effect reveals that fans’ attention at live music events (rated an average of 8.10 on a scale of 1-10) is greater than when talking with family and friends (7.62), watching a movie in a theatre (7.51) or browsing social media (5.70), allowing partner brands to land messages more effectively and build deeper connections.

Seven in ten (70%) say they have felt ‘at home’ among people who understand them at a live music event, while 63% report making an immediate connection with strangers. Remarkably, half (53%) even feel more understood by fellow fans than by people in their everyday lives.

Paul Samuels, President – Global Partnerships at AEG International, said: “In times of economic instability, sometimes we need a little joy and excitement in our lives, which is why so few fans are prepared to curb their spending on live entertainment in the face of financial hardship. Brands that can elevate fans’ experiences through authentic activations can harness the halo of the positive emotions and heightened attention to shift perceptions, increase consideration, boost sales and build lasting relationships with niche or hard-to-reach groups of consumers.”

1 79% of fans agree that live music creates a sense of community that digital entertainment cannot match.

2 For the purposes of the study, live music fans were defined as consumers who have attended at least one live music event in the past three years (60%).

Joy Behar Reveals Rare Point of Agreement With Trump

by jummy84 September 25, 2025
written by jummy84

On Thursday’s (September 25) edition of The View, the cohosts dissected the latest news involving Donald Trump: Days after he publicly pressured the attorney general to prosecute his political enemies, it is now reportedly expected that former FBI Director James Comey will face an indictment (by a Trump-appointed prosecutor with no previous experience in the field) related to his statements to Congress regarding election interference.

Comey has a complicated history with Trump. He was appointed by Barack Obama but was widely spurned by Democrats after he announced a new investigation into then-candidate Hillary Clinton over her use of a private email server just days before the 2016 election. He continued to serve in the role after Donald Trump was elected in 2016, but was fired a year later amid the investigation into Trump’s campaign’s ties to Russia. This ignited a special counsel investigation by Robert Mueller that plagued Trump’s first term. Trump has since repeatedly criticized Comey, including calling him a “dirty cop” in May.

The cohosts’ reaction to the matter of Comey’s potential prosecution was contentious, to say the least. Oddly enough, it was Joy Behar who expressed some sympathy for Trump’s position on Comey.

“I agree with Trump on this one,” she said. When prompted by her cohosts to explain, she continued, “I don’t like what he did to Hillary.”

When Sunny Hostin challenged whether it was “fair” that he should be prosecuted, Behar said, “No… Just saying, I rarely have something that I agree with Trump on. This is one thing.”

Hostin then pressed back again, saying, “But Joy, some would say he was just doing his job, James Comey.”

“What? At the last minute to bring out this email baloney?” said Behar.

When cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin said she didn’t need to “drudge up ancient history” on the matter, Behar asked her pointedly, “Do you agree with him?” And Griffin responded with, “I think that it should have been investigated. I do think the timing was out of step with the Department of Justice. They generally don’t do that a month out from an election.”

She then went on to discuss the matter at hand, which was the possibility of Comey’s prosecution, and she said, “I don’t think Trump’s goal is criminal convictions… I don’t think [the prosecutor is] going to be able to get a conviction based on what we know and the information that’s out there. [The goal] is to get these people wrapped up with legal fees. It’s to intimidate people from being critics of [Trump]. To him, I think it’s some degree of payback.”

When Griffin admitted that she’s not a legal expert, Hostin said with a snap, “Well, this legal expert is telling you he’s not going to get a conviction.”

Hot Chip: Joy in Repetition Album Review

by jummy84 September 9, 2025
written by jummy84

The career retrospective is something of a lost art in the streaming era. But the indietronica institution Hot Chip have tackled theirs with aplomb. True to form for a group that balances earnestness with a finely honed deadpan sensibility, Joy in Repetition encases a few emotional truths within a self-deprecating title. The main reference is the chorus of 2005’s “Over and Over,” the London quintet’s breakthrough single and defining hit. More broadly, the album title captures both the essence of dance music and Hot Chip’s penchant for borrowing: They nicked it from Prince.

To their credit, Hot Chip never hid their debts—they said they were down with Prince from the beginning. The band didn’t set out to be a dance-rock powerhouse that would remix the singles of half the Western world. “We didn’t have the production value to do a Destiny’s Child-style show,” singer Alexis Taylor said in 2016. “And yet, that was the music that was exciting to us. We weren’t referencing the tradition of New Order or Depeche Mode.” They were five young multi-instrumentalists who shared an interest in Black pop and indie rock, a combination that was quickly becoming the default for a generation of hipsters. Their 2004 debut, Coming on Strong, was as overloaded as the fake synth on the cover: soul balladry and back-porch picking, smooth sax solos and tiny-desk techno. It was shaggy and languid and intimate, like the Beta Band if they were into Angie Stone instead of the Stone Roses.

Coming on Strong is the only Hot Chip album not represented here, possibly because it received the deluxe-reissue treatment last year, or because its muted, bedroom-to-blogroll aesthetic—to say nothing of its crazy-ass white-boy lyricism—might slouch in the presence of sturdier company. (It’s spiritually represented by “Look at Where We Are,” a Rodney Jerkins-style ballad from 2012 that’s only R&B by process of elimination.) The press material describes this collection as “less a Best Of, more like a Best Loved”—their most popular live songs, in other words. (Only studio recordings are included: no live versions, and no remixes of their own songs or others’.)The phrasing suggests yet another, more cynical riff on the title: the complacent audience, craving more of the same.

But Hot Chip never fell into that trap, even as they became a pop commodity. Visiting his girlfriend in New York, Taylor happened to run into James Murphy and Jonathan Galkin of DFA Records; Hot Chip signed with DFA soon afterward. The move felt like a fait accompli at the time, and even though Taylor and Joe Goddard remained the band’s producers, 2006’s The Warning had the whiff of DFA’s astringent house style. Going forward, Hot Chip’s timbres were crisper, their mixes were fuller, the saxes now skronked. Soul signifiers took a backseat to gurning electro, a sound the band metabolized with startling ease.
