Jim Avila, a respected and longtime broadcast journalist, is being remembered with an outpouring of tributes following his death at 70. Colleagues across ABC News, NBC, and local stations praised Avila as a “fearless reporter,” a “deeply kind friend,” and a journalist whose steady, thoughtful storytelling shaped coverage of some of the nation’s most defining moments. Over a decades-long career, he reported on major criminal trials, immigration issues, national politics, and served as ABC’s White House correspondent — leaving behind a body of work admired throughout the industry.

Below, learn more about Jim Avila’s life, career, family, and the circumstances surrounding his passing.

Who Was Jim Avila?

Avila was a veteran American journalist and one of ABC News’ most trusted correspondents, known for his clear reporting and deep command of national issues. Over his decades-long career, he became a familiar face covering political developments, immigration, and breaking national stories.

One of Avila’s most notable assignments was his coverage of the O.J. Simpson criminal trial — a defining moment in modern American journalism that helped cement his reputation as a sharp, reliable reporter. He later served as ABC’s White House correspondent from 2012 to 2016, where he covered major policy shifts and global events.

Avila’s career began in 1973 at KCBS Radio before he moved into television at KNBC and eventually CBS. He later joined ABC News as a senior national correspondent, where he broke significant stories, including developments in the U.S.–Cuba diplomatic thaw.

How Did Jim Avila Die? Cause of Death

Avila died at the age of 70 in November 2025 after a prolonged illness. According to the Los Angeles Times, he experienced complications related to a kidney transplant as well as a fall, which ultimately led to his being placed in hospice care for six weeks. He passed away at his home in San Diego.

Was Jim Avila Married?

There is no reliable, widely-reported public source confirming his spouse’s name or marriage details at the time of his death. Troublingly, one Facebook post (likely inaccurate) lists a “wife of 31 years, Elizabeth Barrera-Avila,” but this is not supported by mainstream news outlets.

Jim Avila Children

Avila is survived by three children: James, Jeannette, and Evan.

His brother, reporter Jaie Avila, noted that the kidney transplant Jim received allowed him to witness one of his children’s wedding and the birth of two grandchildren.

Abhishek Bachchan hits back at journalist for accusing him of buying Best Actor award: ‘I will prove you wrong’

by jummy84 October 29, 2025
written by jummy84

Abhishek Bachchan has experienced an inspiring journey in Bollywood as an actor. Following in his superstar father Amitabh Bachchan’s footsteps, Abhishek began his career in the Hindi film industry with J. P. Dutta’s war drama Refugee (2000). Even though there were some bumps in the way, he went on to emerge as one of the most versatile performers that Bollywood had ever witnessed. But throughout his journey, Abhishek was considered underrated because of constant comparisons to his legendary father. So when he received his first ever Filmfare Award for Best Actor, for his performance in I Want to Talk (2024) last month, it felt like a personal win for many fans. However, some accused the actor of ‘buying’ the award.

Abhishek Bachchan

This morning, journalist Navneet Mundhra took to Twitter to share his thoughts on Abhishek Bachchan’s victory. The tweet read, “As much as he’s an affable guy, I hate to say that professionally #AbhishekBachchan is the prime example of how buying awards and aggressive PR pushes can keep you relevant… even if you don’t have a single SOLO blockbuster in your career. He won an award for #IWantToTalk this year… A film which no one saw apart from a few PAID reviewers. And now I see all these tweets saying 2025 is HIS year. HILARIOUS !! There are far better actors than him who deserve more recognition, work, appreciation & awards…. but alas! They don’t have PR smarts & money.” Well, Abhishek has politely hit back at the journalist.

Abhishek responded, “Just to set the record straight. Never has any award been bought or aggressive PR been done by me . Just hard work, blood, sweat and tears. But, doubt you’ll believe anything I say or write. So…. Best way to shut you up is by working even harder so that you don’t ever doubt any achievement that will happen in the future, again. I will prove you wrong! With all due respect and “affability”.”

When I Want to Talk released, many fans had lauded Abhishek’s performance, with some describing him as ‘better than Amitabh Bachchan’ in their reviews. Have you watched the Shoojit Sircar film yet?

Susan Stamberg Dead: NPR Journalist Was 87

by jummy84 October 16, 2025
written by jummy84

Veteran National Public Radio journalist Susan Stamberg, who became the first woman in the U.S. to anchor a nightly national news program with “All Things Considered,” died Thursday, according to NPR. She was 87.

Stamberg, who retired just six weeks ago, had a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was honored by the Broadcasting Hall of Fame and the National Radio Hall of Fame.

“Susan’s voice was not only a cornerstone of NPR — it was a cornerstone of American life,” Katherine Maher, NPR’s president and chief executive, said in a statement to the Washington Post. “She showed that journalism could be both rigorous and deeply personal. She inspired countless journalists to believe they could explore life and truth, and lead with both authority and warmth.”

Born Susan Levitt in Newark, N.J., she graduated Barnard College and started out at WAMU public radio in Washington, D.C.

She joined NPR upon its founding in 1971, starting out as an audio editor who cut audio tape with a razor blade, and in 1972 became co-host of evening news magazine “All Things Considered.” Stamberg hosted “All Things Considered” for 14 years in an era when few women got a chance at the top radio and television spots.

Her interviews often focused on the arts or quirky stories, rather than straight politics. She was also known for sharing her mother-in-law’s famous cranberry sauce recipe (it involves horseradish) with her listeners.

After “All Things Considered,” Stamberg shifted to “Weekend Edition Sunday,” where she helped launch a puzzle segment and invited the brothers who would go on to do “Car Talk” to do a weekly segment on the show. She then became a special correspondent, often focusing on stories about culture and sometimes about Hollywood.

She is survived by her son Josh Stamberg, an actor, and two granddaughters. Her husband Louis Stamberg died in 2007.

Lakshmi Manchu Initiates Legal Action Against Journalist Over Body Shaming Allegations

by jummy84 September 20, 2025
written by jummy84

Actor Lakshmi Manchu has taken a strong stance against a senior journalist who allegedly made body-shaming and ageist remarks during a recent interview. The journalist reportedly criticized Lakshmi’s clothing, implying that her choices were inappropriate for a woman in her 40s and a mother.

In response, Lakshmi filed a formal complaint with the Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC), demanding accountability and respect. According to a report by Cinemaexpress, she issued a powerful statement condemning the incident. “India is a country that reveres women as Shakti, yet when we step into professional spaces, we are subjected to casual misogyny, humiliation, and disrespect. This cannot continue. I owe it not only to myself but to the many young women who look up to me to call this out.”

Lakshmi emphasized that while she accepts tough questions and public scrutiny as part of her profession, she draws the line at what she calls “cruelty masked as journalism.” She has requested a public apology from the journalist and urged the TFCC to take strict action to prevent such behavior in the future. “Respect is not optional. Accountability is not negotiable,” she declared.

Lakshmki Addressing Industry Bias Against Divorced Women

While promoting her latest thriller, Daksha: A Deadly Conspiracy, Lakshmi also brought attention to the deep-rooted bias against divorced women in the film industry. Speaking to Great Andhra, she highlighted how a well-known actor’s ex-wife has been unofficially blacklisted despite being willing to work.

“There is a superstar’s ex-wife who works here. She got divorced, and since then, even films that were once offered to her have been taken away. People say, ‘Oddu le amma, aina emana antaru emo’ (Let it go, dear. What if her ex says something?). She is waiting to do good work, and I don’t need to name her.”

When the interviewer hinted that she might be referring to Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Lakshmi neither confirmed nor denied it, stating, “You’re thinking it’s Samantha. But there’s not just one superstar; around five to six of them have been divorced. I’m close to all of them. If a man gets divorced, his life doesn’t change. But for a woman, once she marries, has children, takes on in-laws and responsibilities, no one gives us freedom. We have to take it ourselves.”

Lakshmi’s comments highlight the persistent double standards in the entertainment industry, where divorced women often face career setbacks while their male counterparts continue unaffected. Her willingness to speak out has resonated with many who see her as a strong voice for women’s rights in Indian cinema.

Currently, Lakshmi is promoting Daksha: A Deadly Conspiracy, a thriller that released on September 20. Her candid interviews and bold statements are not just drawing attention to the film, but also to the larger cultural and professional issues faced by women in the public eye.

A Journalist Once Compared Rajesh Khanna To The Great Napoleon - Here

When Rajesh Khanna Was Compared To The French Emperor, Napoleon, By A Journalist For This Reason!

A Journalist Once Compared Rajesh Khanna To The Great Napoleon – Here’s Why ( Photo Credit – Facebook )

Rajesh Khanna is the bona fide superstar of Indian cinema. At the peak of his career, he made many superhit and blockbuster movies. His stardom was unimaginable, and a journalist once described it. Keep scrolling for more.

Khanna redefined the romance genre in the Hindi film industry. Bollywood is defined by different eras; his era was romance, great songs, and superb dialogues. Female fans went crazy over him, sending marriage proposals and everything. His on-screen charisma and Kishore Kumar’s soulful voice created magic together. People often spoke and wrote about his immense stardom in tabloids and videos. A BBC journalist also talked about his stardom and shared interesting details.

A BBC Journalist Once Compared Rajesh Khanna to Napoleon

According to the Bollywood Shadis report, several years ago, Jack Pizzey, a BBC journalist, documented Rajesh Khanna’s life, and the documentary is called Bombay Superstar. The documentary covered them all, from his relationship with Dimple Kapadia to his work life and even his downfall. Pizzey claimed veteran filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee rewrote dialogues while waiting for Kaka on the sets.

He said, “The biggest star should be arriving at this studio. The superstar is Rajesh Khanna. He has the charisma of Rudolph Valentino, the arrogance of Napoleon, and he’s late. There’s nothing the director can do about it. He rewrites, yet again, the lines that his star should be speaking by now. He sweats and waits. Everyone is sweating and getting ready, and waiting.”

The BBC journalist continued, “The star lives in an impregnable dreamhouse. Getting in to interview Rajesh is like trying to get an audience with royalty. Only if a king says, ‘Come to my palace at 3’, he probably means it.” Jack reportedly tried interviewing Kaka and wound up in his house, only to be turned away from the gates.

Jack shared how he had once waited five days for Rajesh Khanna, an experience that eventually humbled him. He also recalled accompanying the star to a shoot in Kashmir, where Khanna kept the crew waiting even longer. In addition, the veteran actor reportedly became restless over the failure of his last five films.
