Here’s what Jimmy Kimmel said about the Charlie Kirk shooting – National

by jummy84 September 19, 2025
written by jummy84

Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, was taken off the air “indefinitely” Wednesday following remarks he made on Monday night about the shooting death of Charlie Kirk.

During Monday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the host spoke about Kirk, who was shot and killed last week while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it. In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving,” Kimmel said in his monologue Monday.

“On Friday, the White House flew the flags at half staff, which got some criticism, but on a human level, you can see how hard the president is taking this.”

Kimmel, 57, then cut to a clip, showing U.S. President Donald Trump taking questions from reporters after the shooting. One of the reporters offered their condolences for the death of Trump’s “friend” Kirk.

When Trump was asked how he was holding up, he said, “I think very good, and by the way, right there where you see all the trucks, they just started construction of the new ballroom for the White House.”

Trump went on to discuss the plans for the White House ballroom and said the results will “be a beauty.”

When the camera cut back to Kimmel, he said, “Yes, he’s at the fourth stage of grief: construction.”

“Demolition, construction. This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend,” Kimmel said. “This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish, OK?”

Kimmel claimed that Trump’s comments “didn’t just happen once” and shared a clip from Trump’s appearance on Fox & Friends from Sept. 12, when he spoke about what he was doing when he first heard of Kirk’s death.

“When I heard it, I was in the midst of, you know, building a great — for 150 years they’ve wanted a ballroom at the White House, right? They don’t have a ballroom. They have to use tents on the lawn for President Xi when he comes over. If it rains, it’s a wipeout,” Trump said during his appearance.

Trump said he was with the architects planning the design for the ballroom when someone told him Kirk was dead.

“And then we installed the most beautiful chandelier,” Kimmel told his audience. “Sconces you wouldn’t believe.

“There’s something wrong with him, there really is. Who thinks like that? Why are we building a $200-million ballroom in the White House? Is it possible he’s doing it intentionally so we can be mad about that instead of the Epstein list? By the time he’s out of office, the White House will have slot machines and a water slide.”

ABC, which has aired Kimmel’s late-night show since 2003, moved swiftly after Nexstar Communications Group said it would pull the show starting Wednesday following Kimmel’s comments.

Kimmel’s comments about Kirk’s death “are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse,” said Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar’s broadcasting division. Nexstar operates 23 ABC affiliates.

Earlier in the day, Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr called Kimmel’s comments “truly sick” and said his agency has a strong case for holding Kimmel, ABC and network parent Walt Disney Co. accountable for spreading misinformation.

“This is a very, very serious issue right now for Disney,” Carr said on The Benny Show, a podcast hosted by Benny Johnson. “We can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to take action on Kimmel or there is going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”

The 57-year-old comedian has not released a statement following ABC’s decision to pull his show but many others, including the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, have spoken out against the move.

“SAG-AFTRA condemns the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live!” SAG-AFTRA’s statement read.

“Our society depends on freedom of expression. Suppression of free speech and retaliation for speaking out on significant issues of public concern run counter to the fundamental rights we all rely on. Democracy thrives when diverse points of view are expressed.

“The decision to suspend airing Jimmy Kimmel Live! is the type of suppression and retaliation that endangers everyone’s freedoms. SAG-AFTRA stands with all media artists and defends their right to express their diverse points of view, and everyone’s right to hear them.”

Democratic leaders in the U.S. House on Thursday called on Carr to resign after he pressured Walt Disney and ABC affiliates to stop airing Jimmy Kimmel Live! after Kimmel’s comments about Kirk.

Jeffries and other leaders said Carr has “disgraced the office he holds by bullying ABC, the employer of Jimmy Kimmel, and forcing the company to bend the knee to the Trump administration.”

“Donald Trump and the Republican Party’s war on the First Amendment is blatantly inconsistent with American values. Media companies, such as the one that suspended Mr. Kimmel, have a lot to explain,” Jeffries wrote. “The censoring of artists and cancellation of shows is an act of cowardice. It may also be part of a corrupt pay-to-play scheme.

“House Democrats will make sure the American people learn the truth, even if that requires the relentless unleashing of congressional subpoena power. This will not be forgotten.”

On Wednesday, Trump applauded ABC’s decision to pull Kimmel’s show, writing, “Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED.”

“Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible,” he wrote Wednesday on Truth Social. “That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!! President DJT”

Trump also spoke about Kimmel during a press conference on Thursday with U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Chequers, Starmer’s country house in the English town of Aylesbury.

When asked about the dismissal of Kimmel and free speech in America, Trump said, “Well, Jimmy Kimmel was fired because he had bad ratings more than anything else.”

“He said a horrible thing about a great gentleman known as Charlie Kirk. And Jimmy Kimmel is not a talented person. He had very bad ratings and they should have fired him a long time ago,” Trump continued. “So, you know, you can call that free speech or not. He was fired for lack of talent.”

Carr also said he agreed with the decision, telling Fox News’ Sean Hannity that he was “very glad to see that America’s broadcasters are standing up to serve the interests of their community.”

“We don’t just have this progressive foie gras coming out from New York and Hollywood,” he added.

Stephen Colbert Defends Jimmy Kimmel: “This Is Blatant Censorship”

by jummy84 September 19, 2025
written by jummy84

Stephen Colbert, unsurprisingly, delivered a passionate defense in support of Jimmy Kimmel during Thursday night’s episode of Late Show. According to CNBC, which attended the taping, Colbert called Kimmel’s suspension “blatant censorship” and criticized it as the work of an “autocrat,” referring specifically to Donald Trump.

“With an autocrat, you cannot give an inch,” Colbert told his audience. He also dedicated the evening’s episode to Kimmel and his staff, saying: “Jimmy, I stand with you and your staff 100%,” Colbert added.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! was pulled indefinitely earlier this week after FCC Chairman Brendan Carr threatened ABC over Kimmel’s comments regarding Charlie Kirk’s death. Meanwhile, Colbert will lose his own late-night show next May. CBS described Colbert’s cancelation as a “purely financial decision,” though critics have speculated the show may have been sacrificed to help complete Paramount’s merger with Skydance.

bitchy | Donald Trump celebrated Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension & threatened Fallon, Meyers

The kids don’t know or remember, but Karl Rove largely paved the way for the current state of American politics today. Rove was George W. Bush’s Svengali and senior advisor throughout Bush’s eight years in the White House. This week, MAGA World has apparently gone too far for even Karl Rove. He wrote a Wall Street Journal op-ed arguing that Trump and his people have to stop using Charlie Kirk’s murder as a 21st century Reichstag fire. Per Rove: “Using Charlie’s murder to justify retaliation against political rivals is wrong and dangerous. It will further divide and embitter our country. No good thing will come of it.” When you’ve lost Karl Rove…

Well, Donald Trump doesn’t care about any of that. Yesterday, ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live indefinitely after Trump’s FCC director openly threatened to revoke ABC’s broadcast license if they kept Kimmel on the air. This is all happening because Kimmel questioned MAGA World’s campaign to use Kirk’s death for their own political means. Trump – who is still in the UK on a state visit – shared his thoughts on Kimmel’s suspension.

President Donald Trump is celebrating ABC indefinitely pulling Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!

After ABC indefinitely pulled the show following comments the host made about the death of right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk, the president issued a statement on Truth Social. “Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED,” Trump wrote. “Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible.”

Trump also took aim at late-night hosts Jimmy Fallon and Seth Myers in his reaction, writing, “That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!! President DJT.”

[From People]

That’s what happens when you give an inch to fascists. Once they took down Stephen Colbert, it was the beginning of the end. There are few ways for Kimmel to shimmy out of this mess with his integrity intact, but before those decisions are made, Trump is letting everyone know that he wants the Tonight Show and Seth Meyers’ show taken down too. Jimmy Fallon must be like “what the actual f–k,” because Fallon barely does any politics! Seth has always been a brilliant critic of Trump and Trump World, but I could easily see how NBC would push out Seth to appease these Nazi a–holes.

Trump is, like, Oompa-Loompa-level orange today in England.

Is ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ Canceled? Updates on the Late-Night Show’s Fate – Hollywood Life

Jimmy Kimmel is suspended from future broadcasts of his late-night comedy show “indefinitely, according to a statement from ABC. Just two months after Stephen Colbert‘s CBS show was axed, Kimmel’s was pulled off the air after the comedian made a comment related to Charlie Kirk‘s death and his suspected shooter, Tyler Robinson. Naturally, viewers wondered if the on-air suspension indicates a termination. So, is Jimmy Kimmel Live! canceled?

“Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be pre-empted indefinitely,” an ABC spokesperson said in a statement. According to CNN, the rep did not share further details. Kimmel has yet to publicly comment on ABC’s decision to yank his show off the air.

Below, get updates on the status of Kimmel’s comedy show.

Was Jimmy Kimmel Fired?

No, Kimmel was not fired by ABC, though he has been suspended until further notice.

Why Was Jimmy Kimmel Suspended?

ABC declined to elaborate on Kimmel’s suspension, but ABC affiliate Nexstar said it would not broadcast Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the “foreseeable future,” adding that it “strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.”

Brendan Carr, the head of the Federal Communications Commission, criticized Kimmel’s comments related to Kirk’s shooting. Carr appeared on Benny Johnson’s show and said, “This is a very, very serious issue right now for Disney. We can do this the easy way or the hard way. Disney needs to see some change here, but the individual licensed stations that are taking their content, it’s time for them to step up and say this, you know, garbage to the extent that that’s what comes down the pipe in the future isn’t something that we think serves the needs of our local communities. … There’s calls for Kimmel to be fired. I think you could certainly see a path forward for suspension over this.”

What Did Jimmy Kimmel Say About Charlie Kirk?

Kimmel condemned political violence and sent his condolences to Kirk’s family after the late Turning Point USA founder’s death was confirmed on September 10, 2025.

“Instead of the angry finger-pointing, can we just for one day agree that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another human?” Kimmel wrote via Instagram. “On behalf of my family, we send love to the Kirks and to all the children, parents and innocents who fall victim to senseless gun violence.”

What Did Jimmy Kimmel Say About Tyler Robinson?

Kimmel referred to the “MAGA gang” while discussing Robinson, Kirk’s suspected shooter.

“The MAGA Gang (is) desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said during an episode of his show. “In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.”

The comedian also showed Donald Trump‘s response to a reporter when asked how he was mourning Kirk.

“I think very good, and by the way, right there — do you see all the trucks?” the president asked, before adding, “They just started construction for the new ballroom for the White House, which is something they’ve been trying to get as, you know, for about 150 years. And it’s gonna be a beauty.”

Will Jimmy Kimmel Live! Be Canceled?

At the time of publication, there is no set air date for Kimmel’s return. However, ABC has not canceled his show altogether.

Reports suggest that Kimmel might walk away from ABC, though. Daily Mail reported that he’s “actively looking for ways to get out of his contract.”

Hollywood Notables, Politicians React to ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ Suspension

by jummy84 September 18, 2025
written by jummy84

While President Donald Trump is celebrating Jimmy Kimmel Live! getting suspended by ABC over host Jimmy Kimmel’s viral Charlie Kirk remarks, other Hollywood notables and political figures are slamming the network’s decision.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom is among those calling ABC’s move an attack on free speech, writing on X, “Buying and controlling media platforms. Firing commentators. Canceling shows. These aren’t coincidences. It’s coordinated. And it’s dangerous. The @GOP does not believe in free speech. They are censoring you in real time.”

On Wednesday, ABC announced Jimmy Kimmel Live! would be “pre-empted indefinitely” after Federal Communications Commission chair Brendan Carr condemned Kimmel for saying during his Monday night show that he suspected Kirk assassin Tyler Robinson was a MAGA Republican.

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said during his opening monologue. After, Carr also threatened to take action against ABC affiliates over Kimmel’s remarks.

In response to ABC’s decision, Michael Kosta, a comedian and one of The Daily Show‘s rotating hosts, highlighted the First Amendment on his Instagram Story, adding, “This is a serious moment in American history. TV networks MUST push back. This is complete BS.”

Hacks star Jean Smart shared on Instagram, “I am horrified at the cancellation of Jimmy Kimmel Live. What Jimmy said was FREE speech, not hate speech. People seem to only want to protect free speech when it suits THEIR agenda. Though I didn’t agree at ALL with Charlie Kirk; his shooting death sickened me; and should have sickened any decent human being. What is happening to our country?”

In an Instagram video, comedian and actress Wandy Sykes blamed the suspension on “complaints by the Trump administration.” She added, “Let’s see, he didn’t end the Ukraine War or solve Gaza within his first week. But he did end freedom of speech within his first year. Hey, for those of you who pray, now’s the time to do it. Love you, Jimmy.”

Alex Edelman, writer, comedian and star on The Paper, also wrote on X, “This is the actual cancel culture everyone claims to hate so much.”

Actor and comedian Paul Scheer wrote on Threads, responding to a video of Fox commentator Brian Kilmeade calling for mentally ill homeless people to be killed, “So let me get this straight. Kimmel is off the air for his comments about the politicization of an assassination but this is totally fine.”

As the premiere of his new movie Him took place right across the street from Kimmel’s theater Wednesday night, comedian Tim Heidecker told THR, “It’s a dark, dark time. I think it’s very scary; it’s happening very quickly and we are seeing the results of electing a fascist and what it feels like to be living under a fascist regime. I am sure Jimmy will be OK but it’s very scary and is absolutely state-sponsored censorship. I mean the guy from the FCC said, ‘We can do this the easy way or the hard way’ — that’s like mob stuff. I’m very upset by it. Late night TV is not my thing but that’s OK, I think he should be able to say what he wants, within reason. What he said didn’t seem that crazy. ”

More reactions to the news about the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! follow.

Just months after Stephen Colbert‘s CBS show was gutted, Jimmy Kimmel Live! was pulled off the air “indefinitely” after Kimmel made a comment about the murder of Charlie Kirk and the suspected shooter, Tyler Robinson.

“Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be pre-empted indefinitely,” an ABC representative said. According to CNN, the spokesperson declined to share further details.

So, what exactly did Kimmel say about Kirk and Robinson? We have the full comment below.

Why Was Jimmy Kimmel Suspended?

While ABC declined to elaborate on Kimmel’s suspension, Nexstar, an ABC affiliate, said it would not broadcast Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the “foreseeable future,” adding that it “strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.”

Shortly after Jimmy Kimmel made comments related to the shooting of late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, ABC (a Disney affiliate) pulled his late-night television show off the air “indefinitely,” according to a September 17, 2025, statement from a representative. So, does this mean he was fired and his show is canceled?

“Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be pre-empted indefinitely,” an ABC spokesperson said. Per CNN, the rep declined to share further details.

The news comes on the heels of fellow late-night comedian Stephen Colbert‘s cancelation, which was confirmed by CBS this past summer. Colbert’s show ended up winning an Emmy Award.

Below, find out what Kimmel’s “indefinite” hiatus means for him and his show.

Was Jimmy Kimmel Fired by ABC?

Not necessarily, but an “indefinite” break from ABC hints at a future cancelation. ABC did not verify whether his show is actually canceled, or if he was fired.

However, Nexstar, an ABC-affiliated station, said it won’t broadcast Kimmel’s show for the “foreseeable future,” per CNN, adding that it “strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.”

What Does ABC Mean by ‘Pre-Empted Indefinitely’ for Kimmel?

ABC declined to elaborate any further on the matter, but a spokesperson said Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be “pre-empted indefinitely,” meaning that the late-night show has been stalled from airing for now.

What Did Jimmy Kimmel Say About Charlie Kirk? His Comments

Kimmel actually condemned the shooting of Kirk, which took place at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025.

“Instead of the angry finger-pointing, can we just for one day agree that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another human?” Kimmel wrote on Instagram after Kirk died. “On behalf of my family, we send love to the Kirks and to all the children, parents and innocents who fall victim to senseless gun violence.”

What Did Jimmy Kimmel Say About Tyler Robinson?

After Tyler Robinson was named the primary suspect in Kirk’s murder, Kimmel said, “The MAGA Gang (is) desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it. Donald Trump Reacts To ABC Suspending ‘JImmy Kimmel Live!’

by jummy84 September 18, 2025
written by jummy84

Donald Trump has reacted to ABC’s decision to indefinitely suspend ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ after Kimmel made remarks about conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The move pushed Donnie to also call out other late-night talk shows hosts.

Donald Trump Speaks Out Following ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ Suspension

On Wednesday, September, 17, ABC announced its decision to pull Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night talk show off the air after the head of the Federal Communications Commission warned that his controversial comments could put Disney-owned ABC’s broadcast license at risk. According to CNBC, Jimmy Kimmel shared his thoughts on Charlie Kirk just days after his passing. Kirk spoke at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, September 10, when Tyler Robinson fatally shot him. Kimmel reportedly made several comments about the incident during his Monday and Tuesday night shows this week.

Now, Donald Trump is weighing in on ABC’s decision to suspend Kimmel over his comments. Donnie called the move “a great idea” and “great news for America” on Truth Social.

“The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED. Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible,” Trump wrote.

Donnie wasn’t done, he also threw a jab at late-night hosts Jimmy Fallon and Seth Myers, suggesting that NBC should consider booting their shows too. “That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!! President DJT,” he added. As of right now, Kimmel has not responded to Trump’s message or addressed his suspension.

Here’s What Jimmy Kimmel Said About Charlie Kirk

ABC confirmed it would suspend Jimmy Kimmel after he made comments about Charlie Kirk during his late-night show. The comedian and host first joked about Trump’s response to the loss after a video showed him being interviewed and asked how he was holding up. Donnie told the reporter he was doing well, then immediately shifted to mentioning that The White House’s new ballroom was in progress.

“I think very good and by the way, you see all the trucks […] they’ve just started construction for the new ballroom for The White House, which is something they’ve been trying to get for a 150 years and it’s going to be beauty,” Trump said in the clip.

Afterward, Kimmel joked that Donnie had reached the fourth stage of grief — construction. “This is not how an adult grieves the murder of somebody called their friend. This is how a 4-year-old mourns a goldfish.”

Additionally, Jimmy Kimmel also spoke about Tyler Robinson, who is currently facing felony charges including aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, obstruction of justice, and witness tampering, per CNBC. While speaking to his audience, Kimmel called out Trump and the MAGA movement for trying to characterize Tyler Robinson.

“The MAGA Gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said.

What Does This Mean For Jimmy’s Future?

Jimmy Kimmel has a long-running relationship with the ABC network. His late-night show has been on the air for more than two decades. According to CNN, ABC has not officially canceled ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!,’ but the network has not announced when the show will return.

Social Media Explodes Following News Of Kimmel’s Suspension

ABC Pulls Jimmy Kimmel Live for Charlie Kirk Shooter Comment

by jummy84 September 18, 2025
written by jummy84

Jimmy Kimmel Live! has been pulled off the air by ABC indefinitely following comments made by Kimmel about the death of Charlie Kirk.

The network’s decision followed a series of dramatic developments on Wednesday, including a stern warning from FCC Chairman Brendan Carr directed at ABC, and a subsequent announcement from Nexstar, one of the nation’s largest owners of local TV stations, that it would preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live!

The uproar stems from comments Kimmel made during his monologues earlier in the week. “We had some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said during Monday’s monologue.

He followed that up on Tuesday by criticizing JD Vance and “many in Maga-land [who] are working very hard to capitalize on the murder of Charlie Kirk.” After dismissing Vance’s claim that “most of the lunatics in American politics today are proud members of the far left,” Kimmel countered by asking, “Who wanted to hang the guy who was vice president before you? Was that the liberal left? Or the toothless army who stormed the Capitol on January 6?”

During a podcast appearance on Wednesday, Carr called on Kimmel to apologize and threatened the FCC licenses of ABC affiliates. “What people don’t understand is that the broadcasters … have a license granted by us at the FCC, and that comes with it an obligation to operate in the public interest,” Carr said. “When we see stuff like this, look, we can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to change conduct, on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”

Nexstar, which is also amid a multi-billion merger that requires FCC approval, promptly announced that it would preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! “for the foreseeable future.” “Mr. Kimmel’s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse, and we do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located,” Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar’s broadcasting division, said in a statement. “Continuing to give Mr. Kimmel a broadcast platform in the communities we serve is simply not in the public interest at the current time, and we have made the difficult decision to preempt his show in an effort to let cooler heads prevail as we move toward the resumption of respectful, constructive dialogue.”

ABC itself soon followed suit, announcing that Kimmel’s show would be suspended indefinitely.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kimmel had planned to address the controversy on tonight’s episode, but has no plans to apologize.

With the Late Show with Stephen Colbert set to end in May 2026, only NBC’s late-night shows remain unaffected by the current political climate at this time. What happens next remains to be seen, but Kimmel’s current contract at ABC expires in 2026, and he told People magazine in February 2024 that it could be his last. He also recently obtained Italian citizenship.

Jimmy Kimmel became one of late-night comedy’s most successful hosts, which is also thanks to his incredible writing team, and his wife, Molly McNearny. is a part of it!

In past years, Jimmy has shown his love and appreciation for Molly, such as on her birthday back in 2023 by sharing a hilarious Instagram snap of her holding a cup of water with four pairs of glasses hanging off her shirt collar. “On this birthday, raise many many glasses to a woman who endures the unimaginable, married to me @MMcNearney,” Jimmy lovingly wrote. Keep reading to find out more about Molly, below.

Molly is a big boss on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’

Jimmy and Molly have the unique relationship where they can work together professionally and continue to stay married! And the pair obviously take the same carpool to work, as Molly is the co-head writer and executive producer of Jimmy Kimmel Live! As mentioned, Molly was also part of the Oscar team behind Jimmy’s hilarious monologue as she was executive producer of the show. She has also worked on the Emmy’s award show as well.

Their meet-cute wasn’t that cute

“When I first met him, he insulted me,” Molly recalled of first meeting Jimmy on his show during an interview with Glamour. “The executive producer brought me into his office and said, ‘This is Molly; she’s my new assistant.’ Jimmy barely looked up from his desk until my EP said, ‘She competes in triathlons,’ and then Jimmy looked up at me and said, ‘That is really stupid! What a waste of time.’”

Even after that introduction, Molly stayed on for six years at the company before the pair would even go on a date!

It was Jimmy’s talent in the kitchen that won Molly over

Although Jimmy and Molly were both dating other people when they first met, eventually they spent quite a bit of time together as co-workers. It wasn’t until they ended up together after a long day of filming and Jimmy cooked a meal for her when Cupid struck. “All the writers would socialize after the show, and we would just hang out more and more. We really liked each other as friends, and then it just kind of turned. He cooked for me, and that was it. It sealed the deal,” Molly told Glamour.

Of course, a workplace romance comes with some obstacles. “I was very, very nervous because I love our writers so much, and we work so closely together and I was also the only female writer in the room at the time, and I didn’t want to change the dynamic,” she told the outlet. “When you have camaraderie with your co-workers, one of the parts of that is making fun of the boss a little bit, and now to think, That’s the guy I’m dating, I didn’t want that to stop.”

A star-studded wedding

The couple got engaged during a South African safari and decided to have their wedding back in the States on July 13, 2013, in Ojai, California. The guest list was a who’s who of Hollywood, since Jimmy basically interviews the glitterati for a living! Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Emily Blunt were just a few of the A-listers cheering on the new couple, who would go on to honeymoon in Portofino, Italy.

Molly and Jimmy share 2 children

The cute couple welcomed two children into their nest: daughter Jane and son Billy. Jane arrived in July 2014 and Billy was welcomed in April 2017. Jimmy has been very open about Billy’s harrowing health struggle, as he was born with a congenital heart condition and had to undergo three heart surgeries after he was born.

The comedian also has two children from his first marriage to Gina Maddy, whom he was married to from 1988 to 2002. the former couple had welcomed daughter Katie in 1991 and son Kevin two years later.
