Jessica Sanchez Interview on Pregnancy, ‘American Idol,’ and More (Exclusive)

by jummy84 September 2, 2025
written by jummy84

Nineteen years after she was a contestant on Season 10 of America’s Got Talent at just 10 years old, Jessica Sanchez is back for Season 20. The singer, who was also the runner-up on American Idol in 2012, received Sofia Vergara‘s Golden Buzzer during her audition and will hit the stage again for the Quarterfinals during the Tuesday, September 2, episode.

Just days after she auditioned for the show earlier this year, Jessica found out she was pregnant with her first child (she married husband Ricky Gallardo in 2021). However, the news didn’t stop her from wanting to continue the process, even though she’s now several months along amid the live shows.

“This year, I just felt this immense peace, like, I’m ready to do this. I took the leap and I found out that I was pregnant a couple days later, but it didn’t really hinder me from wanting to take that next step back on that stage,” she tells TV Insider. “If anything, it kind of motivated me a little bit because I’m like, now I get to do this with my daughter. It’s like a once-in-a-lifetime thing.”

Sanchez says preparing for the live shows has been “going great” and that she’s felt “peaceful,” not stressed. “Even preparing vocally, typically your breathing and stuff gets affected when you’re pregnant, but as far as I’ve been preparing, it hasn’t really been affected tremendously and I’m so thankful for that. … Even if my voice does get a little impacted from the pregnancy, I’m excited to challenge myself on that stage.”

Scroll down for more from our interview with Sanchez, including a tease of her next performance, what she learned from American Idol, and more.

Why were you ready to return for this season after being on the show in the past?

Jessica Sanchez: Season 1 of AGT, that was the biggest stage that I had ever been on at that time. I feel like that really catapulted my dream to being a professional singer. I was like, “Oh wow, I feel like being on this stage is something I really want to do and maybe I can take this dream somewhere I never thought I could.” So I feel like AGT was a big thing for me and a big reason why I decided to pursue this music career. But with all the things that I did after, I had so many amazing opportunities, worked with so many amazing people, and hit some very big stages, but I feel like I was so young at that time, I didn’t really get to, one, digest it properly, and also, I feel like I was tugged back and forth of where people wanted me to be and who they wanted me to be.

I needed to take a step back from music. So I took that step back and I kind of just lived a normal life, which was different for me because music was really, like, my identity when I was younger. It felt like a low season, but I definitely needed that to be where I am today to be confident in myself, to know who I am, to know what I want. To come back 20 years later, back on the stage where it all started for me, I feel like I’m on cloud nine.

What have you taken from your experiences on AGT and Idol into this new journey on AGT?

It can be overwhelming for some people, but I really fell in love with that big stage and being able to use my gift to entertain people, to impact people, and just kind of navigating through how hard you have to work and the pressure of it all. I feel like it molded me as a young woman how to handle pressure throughout my life. I feel like I have thick skin. After AGT, dealing with people, feeling rejected, feeling like I wasn’t enough, it taught me how to handle all of those things. I was really young, so I did need to take a step back if I wanted to do this fully and full of purpose before I could come back and feel like I was fulfilling a purpose with my gift.

Have you kept in touch with any contestants from the past shows you’ve done?

It’s so funny because it’s not like I keep in contact where we’re hanging out all the time, but I do hear every now and then from these people, like older contestants and stuff like that. Actually, the winner from the first season, Bianca [Ryan], we follow each other on Instagram and we message each other every now and then just about life stuff, not even about music stuff, which is so cool. I love seeing that she’s killing it and she sees me doing my thing. I really love that no matter how much competition it feels like, you can still kind of detach and be like, wow, all of these amazing talents are coming in and you can share that love of the stage and stuff like that. So I kind of keep in contact with some people.

You were on a few episodes of Glee back in the day. Would you ever dabble in acting again?

I would love to. I’ve tried. I’ve put out audition tapes after doing the Glee stuff. But I’m so seasoned with singing, that is really where I shine. I feel like acting would be a fun thing to do, not really a professional, this is what I do full-time. I think it’d be really fun to start doing it, but singing is really what I’ve known from the beginning.

Anything you can tease about your Quarterfinals performance?

I don’t want to give away too much, but I feel like the first audition I really came in with a song that a lot of people did not expect me to sing and with this next song, it’s similar as in, like, a lot of people aren’t really going to expect the song. It was really fun for me to be creative with it and take it somewhere vocally where a lot of people think it wouldn’t go. I’m excited for that, that’s the only little tease I can give you.

Jessica Aber, the former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, was found dead on March 22, 2025. She was 43 years old. Just two months prior to her sudden death, Aber resigned from her position shortly before Donald Trump was inaugurated.

“I’ve had the privilege of spending my career as a prosecutor in the Eastern District of Virginia working alongside talented, hard-working public servants who manage matters affecting citizens here and across the world,” Aber said in a statement at the time. “Concluding my service to the District as its U.S. Attorney has been an honor beyond measure. I am deeply grateful to Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine and to President [Joe] Biden for the opportunity to lead this office, and to Attorney General Garland for his steadfast leadership. I am proud of the work we have done with our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners to enforce the law and build community trust.”

Who Is Jessica Aber?

Aber was a lawyer and former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, a position she served from 2021 to 2025.

The Walnut Creek, California, native started her career as a law clerk for former Magistrate Judge M. Hannah Lauck of the District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia in 2006. She worked her way up to become the Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division for the Eastern District of Virginia in 2016, a position she held until she became the attorney in 2021.

What Happened to Jessica Aber?

On March 22, 2025, the Alexandria Police Department of Virginia discovered Aber dead in her home after responding to a report of an unresponsive woman in the 900 block of Beverly Drive that morning.

The current U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, Erik S. Siebert, reacted to Aber’s death in a statement, which read, “Her professionalism, grace, and legal acumen set the standard. Though we are devastated by this loss, each of us in the Eastern District of Virginia will look to her example and endeavor to live up to that standard,” per USA Today.

Jessica Aber’s Cause of Death

Aber’s cause of death was disclosed in August 2025. The State Medical Examiner’s Office concluded that she suffered “sudden unexpected death in epilepsy,” according to The Virginian-Pilot.

On March 25, police shared an update, writing on Facebook, “While the investigation into the death of Ms. Jessica Aber is ongoing, at this time, detectives have found no evidence suggesting that her death was caused by anything other than natural causes.”

“The investigation is ongoing, and the case will remain open until the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) returns a final ruling on the cause and manner of death,” police added in the news release.

A friend of Aber’s family told NBC News that police believe she died due to a long-standing medical issue.

BuDhaGirl’s Jessica Jesse Is Making Mindfulness Chic With Bangles That Double as Daily Rituals

Baubles with significance! When Jessica Jesse launched her jewelry line BuDhaGirl in 2013, she wanted to create more than just arm candy — and there’s a meaningful reason why.

The idea first sparked when the founder returned from a trip to ancient monasteries in Thailand, with wrists stacked in simple gold plastic bracelets.

“I began to wonder if these little bangles could become daily companions for mindfulness and reminders to pause, breathe, and be present. … It wasn’t about long hours of meditation. It was about consistency, intention, and grace,” she tells ET.

That thought turned into her cult-favorite All Weather Bangles® — handcrafted by artisans in Thailand — plus, the idea of Mindful Glamour®, a philosophy that embraces beauty and presence equally.

“A woman can be radiant on the outside, while living a deeply contemplative life within,” the creative director explains.

“I’ve never believed the stereotype that depth only comes in granola clothes or austere simplicity. … It is the refusal to choose between beauty and presence.”

The CEO’s own routines reflect that same balance. Each morning begins by reciting a personal mantra, lighting a candle, setting wishes, reading, and sipping a cup of lemon water or tea.

From there comes the ritual of adornment.

“I set my intentions as I put on each bangle. … I slip them onto my wrist and pause and breathe. … My first two bangles are always my children, and others may hold gratitude, focus, love, or compassion.”

And Jesse carries that energy into the rest of her day.

“Everything holds the potential to be sacred if we choose to be fully present. … I approach each act with intention whether it’s thanking my car before I drive, or the act of eating, I approach each with intention.”

“We need to infiltrate further…” Apple has unveiled the first trailer for a thriller series titled The Savant, with episodes available for streaming starting in September running through November. This new series is based on the true story of an sneaky undercover investigator known as “The Savant” as she infiltrates online hate groups in an effort to stop domestic extremists before they act. The series is reportedly inspired by a true-life story originally published in Cosmopolitan in August 2019 about this “Savant” woman and what she achieved already. Jessica Chastain produces and stars in this new series as the mysterious woman at the center of the story. It follows the Savant, a top-secret investigator who infiltrates internet hate organizations to bring down the nation’s most violent men. The Apple TV+ series also stars Nnamdi Asomugha, Cole Doman, Jordana Spiro, Trinity Lee Shirley, Toussaint Francois Battiste, plus guest star Pablo Schreiber (as a bad guy?). With episodes directed by the filmmaker Matthew Heineman (Cartel Land, City of Ghosts, A Private War). This reminds me of a doc from this year called Hacking Hate also about a woman (from Sweden) who also infiltrates hate groups online and works to mess up their plans. Take a look.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Apple TV’s thriller series The Savant, direct from YouTube:

The tense, high-stakes thriller follows an undercover investigator known as “The Savant” (starring Jessica Chastain) as she infiltrates online hate groups in an effort to stop domestic extremists before they act. The series is reportedly inspired by a true-life story entitled “Is It Possible to Stop a Mass Shooting Before It Happens?” which featured in Cosmopolitan in August 2019 of a woman who has come to be known as “the Savant” who infiltrates online hate-groups in order to prevent large-scale public attacks. The Savant is a series created by Canadian writer Melissa James Gibson, known for her many stage plays and writing on the series “The Americans”, “House of Cards”, and “Anatomy of a Scandal”. With additional writing from Frank Pugliese, Jerome Hairston, Amy Herzog, and James Anthony Tyler. Andrea Stanley, the writer of the original Cosmopolitan feature, serves as a consultant. And with episodes directed by acclaimed filmmaker Matthew Heineman (of Cartel Land, City of Ghosts, A Private War, Retrograde, American Symphony). Made by Fifth Season. Executive produced by Jessica Chastain, Kelly Carmichael, Alan Poul, Melissa James Gibson, Matthew Heineman, David Levine, Garrett Kemble. Apple will debut The Savant series streaming on Apple TV+ starting September 26th, 2025 with new eps out every week. Anyone into this? Intrigued?

“That’s the basement… we don’t go down there anymore.” Shudder has unveiled the official trailer for the film Night of the Reaper, a horror thriller in a small town. This hasn’t premiered at any festivals before, but will be out on Shudder for streaming next month just before the horror season kicks off. In the wake of the brutal murder of a teenaged babysitter, college student Deena returns back home for the weekend and is roped into a babysitting gig of her own. When the local sheriff is mailed a piece of evidence that proves the murder may not have been an isolated incident, he is led on a strange scavenger hunt to reveal the killer may be planning a sequel. From genre director Brandon Christensen, this stars Jessica Clement as Deena, along with Matty Finochio, Ryan Robbins, Summer H. Howell, Max Christensen, Ben Cockell, & Bryn Samuel. Alas this just looks like another generic slasher without anything new or interesting to offer.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Brandon Christensen’s horror Night of the Reaper, via YouTube:

As the clues unravel, she finds herself ensnared in a nightmarish mystery she may not survive. Night of the Reaper is directed by VFX artist / genre filmmaker Brandon Christensen, director of the films Still/Born, Z, Superhost, and The Puppetman previously. The script is written by Brandon Christensen and Ryan Christensen. Produced by David Hiatt, Matt Manjourides, Justin A. Martell, Michael Peterson. Shudder will release Christensen’s horror movie Night of the Reaper streaming on Shudder starting on September 19th, 2025 coming soon.
