Jeff Tweedy Shares Video for New Song “Lou Reed Was My Babysitter”: Watch

Jeff Tweedy is sharing one last single before he releases his new album, Twilight Override, on September 26. “Lou Reed Was My Babysitter” comes with a music video by director Austin Vesely that captures Tweedy and his bandmates playing a basement show. Watch it below.

“Lou Reed Was My Babysitter” is about “the joy in this dark music that Lou Reed made, and the beautiful conflict that it creates when you try and analyze it,” Tweedy said in a statement. “And how it was such a positive force for so many people. ‘My life was saved by rock’n’roll’—Lou Reed is saying the same thing. I was babysat by fucking Lou Reed, literally, in my bedroom as a 10-year-old, 12-year-old kid. His music was a more legitimate mentor to me than most of my teachers.”

Tweedy announced Twilight Override in July. The Wilco frontman has shared numerous tracks from the album, including “Enough,” “One Tiny Flower,” “Out in the Dark,” “Stray Cats in Spain,” and “Feel Free.”

Deep Cut Friday: ‘What Will You Say’ by Jeff Buckley

by jummy84 August 29, 2025

Each week, SPIN digs into the catalogs of great artists and highlights songs you might not know for our Deep Cut Friday series.

“This is a song some of you have probably never heard…most of you,” Jeff Buckley told his audience during a July 1995 performance in France, introducing “What Will You Say”—a haunting midtempo song that became one of his most frequently performed unreleased pieces. The performance was later included on the 2000 live album Mystery White Boy. Having released only one studio album in his lifetime (Grace in 1994), Buckley regularly supplemented his lengthy tour sets with covers and new material, with “What Will You Say” becoming a particular favorite that typically ran 7 minutes or longer.

“What Will You Say” was primarily written by one of Buckley’s closest friends, Fishbone keyboardist Chris Dowd, with Buckley and drummer Carla Azar (Wendy and Lisa, the Waterboys) also receiving songwriting credits. Another recording from a 1994 performance at Wetlands in New York, released on a 2019 live album, features Buckley and Dowd singing the song together.

Despite Buckley performing “What Will You Say” roughly 100 times between 1994 and 1996, a studio recording of the song has never surfaced in decades of posthumous releases. It evidently wasn’t among the many tracks he worked on for his unfinished second album before dying in 1997, which were compiled on 1998’s Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk. Dowd and Buckley worked together extensively in a band called the Seedy Arkhestra, but there’s no indication that “What Will You Say” was part of that project—a different song they co-wrote, “Despite the Tears,” appeared on the only Seedy Arkhestra album, 1997’s Puzzle.

In a 2011 solo performance at Arlene’s Grocery in New York, which has been archived on YouTube, Dowd performed “What Will You Say.” He also talked about how Buckley wrote Grace’s closing track “Dream Brother” about him, and reciprocated that gesture with a song he’d written about Buckley called “Long Live the Chief.”

Three more essential Jeff Buckley deep album cuts:

“She Is Free” with Gary Lucas

Buckley wrote two of his greatest songs, “Mojo Pin” and “Grace,” with Captain Beefheart sideman Gary Lucas. A collection of Buckley and Lucas’s collaborations called Songs To No One 1991-1992 was released in 2002, with legendary jazz guitarist Bill Frisell recording additional overdubs on the standout “She Is Free.”

“Calling You”

The Jevetta Steele song “Calling You” was nominated for an Academy Award after appearing in the 1987 film Bagdad Café. The expanded 2003 edition of Buckley’s debut release, the Live at Sin-e EP, featured a gorgeous rendition of Bob Telson-penned ballad.

“I Know We Could Be So Happy Baby (If We Wanted To Be)”

Sketches For My Sweetheart the Drunk is largely comprised of polished studio recordings that Buckley made with his backing band. The set’s second disc, however, features a few 4-track recordings Buckley made alone in his rental house in Memphis that are truly more like sketches than songs. The most striking of those lo-fi recordings is “I Know We Could Be So Happy Baby (If We Wanted To Be),” which feels remarkably fully realized despite a scratchy rhythm track that sounds like it may have been Buckley just tapping his fingers on a microphone.

Young Thug’s Friend PeeWee Roscoe Addresses Rumors Rapper Snitched On Him: ‘Jeff Clean As Listerine’

Whew, boy drama!

Young Thug is facing backlash online after fans resurfaced an alleged leaked interrogation tape that appears to feature him mentioning Peewee Roscoe. The two-hour clip has gone viral.

Roscoe was previously accused of sh**ting at Lil Wayne’s tour bus in 2015, but he is now stepping forward to defend his longtime friend.

In an Instagram video, Roscoe dismissed the online accusations and stood firmly by Thug. “Jeff clean as listerine,” he said, making it clear he does not believe Thug cooperated against him. Roscoe also added that Thug had always tried to “pull me out the hole,” and he insisted the rapper never snitched on him.

The tape originally surfaced nearly two years ago, but fans have reignited the drama on Twitter. Some tied the controversy to Thug’s feud with Gunna, though Roscoe’s defense may shift the conversation.

What are your thoughts on this messy situation?

Aubrey Plaza has described her grief over husband Jeff Baena’s death, likening it to “a giant ocean of awfulness.”

The actor spoke on the podcast Good Hang with Amy Poehler, telling her former Parks and Recreation costar in her most detailed public remarks to date that it’s been a daily struggle to overcome her grief. Writer-director Baena’s January death at age 47 was ruled a suicide.

“Overall, I’m here and I’m functioning,” Plaza tells Poehler at the outset of their interview after being asked how she is coping. “I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. I think I’m OK. But it’s like a daily struggle, obviously.”

She likens her grief to an image from an Apple TV+ horror movie starring Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy.

“Did you see that movie The Gorge?” Plaza asks Poehler. “In the movie, there’s a cliff on one side and then there’s a cliff on the other side, and there’s a gorge in between, and its filled with all these monster people trying to get them,” Plaza says. “And I swear when I watched it I was like, ‘That feels like what my grief is like,’ or what grief could be like … where it’s like at all times, there’s a giant ocean of awfulness that’s right there and I can see it.”

Plaza adds: “And sometimes I just want to dive into it, and just be in it, and sometimes I just look at it. And then sometimes I try to get away from it. But it’s just always there, and the monster people are trying to get me, like Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy.”

Baena was a writer and director who frequently collaborated with Plaza. He cowrote David O. Russell’s 2004 film I Heart Huckabees and wrote and directed five of his own films. Plaza starred in his 2014 directorial debut, the zombie comedy Life After Beth.

After largely remaining silent since Baena’s death, Plaza is now promoting her new film, Honey Don’t! The dark comedy from director Ethan Coen has Margaret Qualley as a private investigator looking into nefarious goings-on in Bakersfield, California.

Aubrey Plaza has Hollywood in the palm of her hand. The actress, who shot to fame on the sitcom Parks & Rec, is on a winning streak lately with her critically acclaimed turn in Emily the Criminal and with landing a role on the second season of the red-hot HBO series The White Lotus, which earned her nominations at the Golden Globe Awards and the SAG Awards. Aubrey’s biggest fan, the one closest to her who has been cheering for all her success, was her late husband, Jeff Baena. But tragedy struck their family at the start of 2025 when Jeff died. He was 47.

Keep reading to find out more about the man who stole Aubrey’s heart, below.

Where Is Jeff Baena from?

Jeff was born on June 29, 1977, in Miami and grew up in the South Florida region, according to his IMDB. He attended New York University and later lived and worked in Los Angeles.

Jeff was a successful screenwriter, producer and director. He is known for The Little Hours (2017), Life After Beth (2014) and Cinema Toast (2021). He collaborated with Alison Brie again to write 2022’s Spin Me Round, which she also starred in.

Jeff Worked with Jude Law, Naomi Watts & Dustin Hoffman

One of Jeff’s biggest successes in Hollywood came when he wrote the screenplay for I Heart the Huckabees with David O. Russell. The 2004 film, which received critical acclaim, was a comedy about existential private detectives.

Jeff Secretly Married Aubrey

The public had no idea Aubrey was even preparing to walk down the aisle when she took to her Instagram on May 7, 2021 to coyly announce she got hitched. Alongside a snap of the couple, she wrote, “So proud of my darling husband @jeffbaena for dreaming up another film that takes us to italia to cause some more trouble 😈 excited to be reunited with the amazing @alisonbrie (who also co-wrote this one!) and @theofficialsuperstar @sordociego @lauren_weedman and so many more fun people in this.”

In March 2025, a medical examiner’s report revealed that the couple had separated in September 2024. A month later, it was reported that Jeff made “concerning remarks,” prompting Aubrey to “call a friend to perform a welfare check on her husband.”

Jeff Died in January 2025

On January 4, 2025, multiple outlets reported that Jeff had died. Authorities revealed that he died by suicide.

Days after his passing, Aubrey and the Baena family shared a statement with People in an article published on January 6, 2025, “This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”

If you or someone you know is in emotional distress or considering suicide, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

Aubrey Plaza describes grief as ‘a giant ocean of awfulness’ following suicide of husband Jeff Baena

20 August 2025

Aubrey Plaza has described her grief as “a giant ocean of awfulness” following the death of her estranged husband, Jeff Baena.

Jeff Baena died by suicide in January and every day has been a ‘struggle’ since for his estranged wife Aubrey Plaza

The screenwriter and director took his own life on January 3, aged 47, with his body discovered at his home in Los Angeles, California, by his dog walker.

Plaza – who had separated from Baena in September 2024 – admits every day is a “struggle” as she continues to mourn the painful loss seven months on.

Asked how she is doing by her Parks and Recreation co-star Amy Poehler on her Good Hang podcast, she said: “Right in this very, very present moment, I feel happy to be with you. Overall, I’m here and I’m functioning. I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. I think I’m okay, but it’s like a daily struggle, obviously.”

She continued: “This is a really dumb analogy and it was kind of a joke at a certain point, but I actually mean it. Did you see that movie The Gorge? It’s like [an] alien movie or something with Miles Teller. In the movie, there’s like a cliff on one side and there’s a cliff on the other side, then there’s gorge in between and it’s filled with all these like monster people that are trying to get them.

“I swear when I watched it, I was like that feels like what my grief is like … or what grief could be like.

“At all times there’s like a giant ocean of awfulness, that’s like right there and I can see it. Sometimes I just want to dive into it, and just like be in it. Then sometimes I just look at it, and sometimes I try to get away from it. But, it’s always there.”

Breaking her silence on his death three days later, Plaza had said in a statement given to People: “This is an unimaginable tragedy.

“We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support.

“Please respect our privacy during this time.”
