New Report Reveals Trust, ROI, and AI as Defining Issues for the Global Awards Industry in 2025

A new industry study, The Business of Awards: 2025 Industry Insight, reveals that while the global awards sector remains a multi-billion-pound powerhouse, it faces mounting challenges around credibility, return on investment (ROI), and the disruptive role of artificial intelligence (AI).

The report — based on a cross-stakeholder survey of awards organisers, sponsors, entrants, and judges, alongside interviews with leaders from Epica, Arc Europe, the PPA, Arena International, and more — highlights that fewer than half of stakeholders believe judging processes are transparent. Nearly a fifth go further, describing them as opaque.

“Trust is the currency of awards. Without transparent judging and clear separation of sponsorship from results, the commercial model risks collapse,” said Mark Tungate, Editorial Director of the Epica Awards.

Other key findings include:

  • Credibility under scrutiny – Less than half of stakeholders rate judging as transparent; scams and “pay-to-play” perceptions are widespread.
  • ROI pressure – Sponsors cite brand visibility and networking as top objectives, but demand measurable outcomes “beyond the night.”
  • Formats in flux – Almost two-thirds of stakeholders favour in-person awards, with hybrid models a strong secondary preference.
  • AI disruption – Judges are already encountering formulaic, AI-generated entries, raising urgent questions about authenticity.
  • Future growth – Year-round engagement, lifecycle analytics, and international expansion are identified as key opportunities.

“The awards industry is resilient, but long-term success will depend on credibility and proof of value,” said Ben Flight, Arena International. “Sponsors increasingly demand evidence that their investment delivers impact.”

Bill Maher Issues Brutal Takedown of Supreme Court Amid Government Shutdown

Bill Maher issued a brutal takedown of the U.S. Supreme Court amid the government shutdown — while making a bold comparison of the Bible and the U.S. Constitution in the process.

On the Friday, November 7 episode of Real Time With Bill Maher, the comedian, 69, spoke at length about the Supreme Court’s recent track record.

“The Supreme Court has to recognize that they have one last chance to not look like a bunch of partisan hacks who are no different than the other two branches of the government,” he said. “This week, the court is hearing about a case that will definitively tell us if they really are a separate branch of government — or whether when the founders said you are a check on executive power, they thought it meant a blank check.”

That’s when Maher compared federal district court rulings to the U.S. Supreme Court rulings over the summer on things like “withholding money that Congress specifically authorized and suspending due process for non-citizens.” Between May 1 and June 23, federal district courts ruled against President Donald Trump 94.3% of the time (82 out of 87 cases), versus Trump’s 17-case winning streak in the U.S. Supreme Court.

“Which is funny because during the [Joe] Biden years, the court was all about reigning in presidential power,” Maher pointed out.

On Friday, the Supreme Court also granted the Trump administration’s emergency appeal to temporarily block a court order to fully fund SNAP benefits amid the government shutdown — after a federal judge gave the administration until Friday to make a payment to fully fund SNAP.

After skewering Trump for tariffs and declarations of nine national emergencies since taking office, Maher compared the U.S. Constitution to the Bible, tying back to the U.S. Supreme Court.

“The Constitution: Is it still a real thing, or is it just a vibe now?” he wondered aloud. “The Supreme Court has to decide: Are you going to be Democracy’s last line of defense, or is the Constitution now — really, let’s  be honest — just like the Bible. Just a sacred, old text that everyone name-drops with reverence but no one actually reads or even feels bad about ignoring.”

Maher continued, “Both testaments, the old due in the sky, and his hippie son — both have many commandments and pronouncements about slavery, and none of them are, ‘Don’t do it.’ The thing is, the Constitution is pro-slavery, too. But the difference with science and faith is, with the Constitution, we could amend it and did.”

To conclude his thoughts, the comedian added, “I could live with the Bible and its Bronze-Age nonsense as long as we also had the greatest document from the Age of Enlightenment. But now I fear they are both like a hot dog: Something Americans love, but they don’t know what’s in it, and they don’t care.”

What was meant to be a glamorous celebration of beauty and diplomacy turned chaotic on November 4 in Bangkok.

According to reports, Nawat reprimanded Bosch for skipping a sponsorship shoot to attend a Telemundo filming session. As seen in the viral livestream, he was heard saying, “Stop! Sit down. If anyone wants to continue the contest, sit down,” after which Bosch exited the venue—followed by several contestants standing in solidarity. Later, Nawat appeared to escalate matters, saying, “Everyone can come back except Mexico. She’s talking too much.”

Fátima Bosch later took to TikTok, condemning Nawat’s remarks. “What your director did is not respectful. He called me dumb because of his issues with the organisation. I’ve done nothing wrong. We are empowered women, and no one can silence our voice,” she said. Her poised yet firm statement went viral, earning massive praise from fans and fellow contestants.

Miss Universe 2024 Victoria Kjær Theilvig of Denmark also supported Bosch, writing, “Standing up for yourself is not always easy, but it’s one of the most important acts of self-respect.” Meanwhile, Miss Universe Bonaire 2025, Nicole Peiliker-Visser, urged reconciliation, saying, “We can fix this. We’re having such a great time in Thailand.”

In response, the Miss Universe Organisation (MUO) launched an investigation and dispatched a high-level delegation led by CEO Mario Búcaro to Thailand to ensure a professional environment and uphold the organisation’s values of transparency and unity. While the pageant schedule remains intact, MUO imposed restrictions on Nawat, with pageant president Raúl Rocha confirming the move in a social media statement reinforcing MUO’s stance on respect and professionalism.

Nawat Issues An Apology

Days later, a remorseful Nawat publicly apologised. During a welcome ceremony, he grew emotional, saying, “I want to apologise to everyone. I didn’t realise how big this issue would become.” In a livestreamed statement, he added in Thai, “If anyone feels bad or affected, I sincerely apologise—especially to the 75 contestants who were present.”

He also clarified that MUO’s CEO, Mario Búcaro, would soon arrive in Thailand to assist in resolving the situation, stating, “He is very kind and will fly in tomorrow so we can work together in alignment.”

The dramatic episode has since ignited widespread discussion about respect, professionalism, and women’s empowerment within global pageants—reminding the world that beauty competitions are not just about crowns, but also about courage, dignity, and voice.

Richard Gere and wife solve family issues with Buddhism

The 76-year-old actor – who converted to Buddhism in 1978, and 42-year-old publicist Alejandra started practising the religion and philosophy when her relationship with Richard began in 2014 – said it brings peace and calmness.

The Pretty Woman star – who has sons Alexander, six, and James, five, with Alejandra – explained in the new issue of Britain’s HELLO! magazine: “Well, interesting you should bring that up because we were just having a drama about one of our kids.

“[Alejandra] is always really good with [saying]: ‘OK, I know I want to strangle you right now, but I’m going to take a deep breath, and we’re going to talk through this. OK, now what’s going on? I’d like to know what are you feeling?'”

She chimed in: “Like Richard has said before, there is a lot of patience that is brought into the equation.

“Introducing the kids to Buddhism and what it means is important.”

Richard – who also has a 25-year-old son called Homer with his 64-year-old ex-wife, actress Carey Lowell – admitted Alejandra’s parenting style has made him become a better dad,

He said: “She’s an incredible mother that way. I’ve actually learnt how to be a better father by watching her.”

Alejandra knew Richard as a family friend for 10 years before a mutual pal introduced them in 2014 at her family’s hotel, located in Positano, Italy.

Richard has created a documentary about the Dalai Lama, the highest spiritual leader and head of Tibetan Buddhism, and how people can find inner peace and compassion in the world.

And he said Alejandra did not hesitate to embrace Buddhism after they started dating.

The Chicago actor said: “She must have had previous lifetimes because it happened very quickly for her.

“We had just started going out, and I was meditating. I said, ‘You sit there, you can read; I’m just going to meditate.’

“She said, ‘What are you doing?’ We started talking about what I was doing, and it was just so natural for her.”

Alejandra added: “Immediately, the door opened.”

And asked about the important teaching of Buddhism, Richard said: “Patience. Just patience with yourself and everybody else.

“These things take time. But it’s like playing the piano – you have to practise and practise and practise, and then you’re able to achieve something.”

It’s a tragedy.” Ali had responded sharply: “Don’t become like Javed Akhtar, never original and ugly as f**k…” his post read.

 

Ali’s “apology” arrived in a second post on X (formerly Twitter) where he clarified his intent: “What I meant was that arrogance is ugly… it was a mistaken communique on my part…” While he acknowledged causing hurt, his tone retained a confrontational edge, especially with his line, “monsters may have feelings too…”

While Ali’s remarks were directed at Akhtar’s words, many social-media users found his language unduly harsh and personal. Others pointed to the original clip’s ambiguous provenance, noting that the quote attributed to Akhtar could not be independently verified.

Limp Bizkit bassist Sam Rivers was open about his past health issues before he died. About a decade before the 48-year-old musician’s death, Rivers revealed he had undergone a liver transplant. However, his cause of death has not been revealed at the time of publication.

In honor of Rivers, Limp Bizkit members Fred Durst, Wes Borland, John Otto and DJ Lethal penned a joint Instagram statement, announcing their late bandmate’s death. The nu metal musicians called Rivers their “brother” and “heartbeat” while highlighting his talent.

“In Loving Memory of Our Brother, Sam Rivers,” their statement read. “Today, we lost our brother. Our bandmate. Our heartbeat. Sam Rivers wasn’t just our bass player — he was pure magic. The pulse beneath every song, the calm in the chaos, the soul in the sound.”

Sam Rivers’ Cause of Death

Rivers’ cause of death was not immediately disclosed. In their public tribute, Limp Bizkit rehashed their memories with Rivers and vowed to “carry” him with them.

“From the first note we ever played together, Sam brought a light and a rhythm that could never be replaced,” the statement read. “His talent was effortless, his presence unforgettable, his heart enormous. We shared so many moments — wild ones, quiet ones, beautiful ones — and every one of them meant more because Sam was there. He was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of human. A true legend of legends. And his spirit will live forever in every groove, every stage, every memory. We love you, Sam. We’ll carry you with us, always. Rest easy, brother. Your music never ends.”

What Health Issues Did Sam Rivers Have?

Rivers left Limp Bizkit in 2015 when he developed liver disease from alcoholism. In Jon Wiederhorn’s book Raising Hell (Backstage Tales From the Lives of Metal Legends), the bassist and backup vocalist explained what he went through.

“I got liver disease from excessive drinking,” Rivers said. “I had to leave Limp Bizkit in 2015 because I felt so horrible, and a few months after that I realized I had to change everything because I had really bad liver disease,” Rivers acknowledged. “I quit drinking and did everything the doctors told me. I got treatment for the alcohol and got a liver transplant, which was a perfect match.”

It’s unclear whether or not Rivers was married or had any children when he died. The late musician kept his personal life private.
