Karan Johar reveals the real reason why he has never invited Virat Kohli on Koffee With Karan: ‘After what happened…’

In 2019, Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul faced backlash on social media after they appeared on Karan Johar’s chat show. And the filmmaker still feels responsible.

Filmmaker Karan Johar’s hit talk show Koffee With Karan has hosted many stars, but one big name still missing is Indian cricket star Virat Kohli. While Anushka Sharma has appeared multiple times, Karan has revealed that Virat’s absence traces back to the infamous Hardik Pandya–KL Rahul controversy.

Karan Johar has revealed he is not in favour of inviting cricketers to his chat show now.

KJo looks back

Recently, Karan sat down with Sania Mirza on her podcast, Serving It Up With Sania where he revealed why he has never invited Virat, who is married to actor Anushka Sharma, to the show.

During the conversation, Sania asked him about the celebrity he wishes to have on the show “who keeps refusing,” Karan named Ranbir Kapoor. He shared, “He’s come before, but for the last three seasons, he’s said no.” Ranbir’s last appearance was with Ranveer Singh in 2016.

When Sania asked Karan to name someone who’s never made it to the Koffee With Karan couch, the filmmaker paused to think. As she mentioned Virat, Karan admitted that he’s never actually invited the cricketer to be on the show.

“I have never asked Virat. And now, I am not asking any cricketers after what happened with Hardik (Pandya) and (KL) Rahul. There are many who I just felt wouldn’t come, so I never asked them in the first place,” Karan revealed.

About the infamous episode

Back in 2019, Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul faced massive backlash on social media after they appeared on Karan Johar’s chat show. Many called out their sexist comments and called them disrespectful towards women.

Amid controversy over the ‘inappropriate’ comments made by cricketers Hardik and KL Rahul on Koffee With Karan (KWK), their episode was pulled down by Disney+ Hotstar at that time. Both of them were suspended before India’s first ODI against Australia despite their apologies. Karan had also added that he felt responsible for what the cricketers had to go through.

Kim Kardashian invited to NASA launch after moon landing conspiracy claims – National

The U.S. space agency NASA is rejecting conspiracy claims by Kim Kardashian that the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landings did not happen.

In the most recent episode of her family’s hit reality show, The Kardashians, Kardashian says she thinks the pivotal lunar expedition was a hoax, citing a series of articles that, she claims, explain why some aspects of the footage and photographs taken on the moon are unreliable.

Shortly after the episode aired, NASA acting administrator Sean Duffy rebuked Kardashian, writing to her in a post on X, “Yes, we’ve been to the Moon before… 6 times!”

Yes, @KimKardashian, we’ve been to the Moon before… 6 times!

And even better: @NASAArtemis is going back under the leadership of @POTUS.

We won the last space race and we will win this one too 🇺🇸🚀

Kardashian responded to his post, saying, “Wait…. what’s the tea on 3I Atlas?!?!!!!!!!?????,” an interstellar comet, which, according to astronomers, is the third-ever object from outside our solar system to pass through our “celestial neighbourhood.”

Duffy replied with an invitation to the launch of NASA’s Artemis mission to the moon at Kennedy Space Center.

“We love your excitement about our Artemis mission to the Moon. You’re officially invited to launch at Kennedy Space Center!” he wrote.

Great question!@NASA’s observations show that this is the third interstellar comet to pass through our solar system. No aliens. No threat to life here on Earth.

3 = the third
I = interstellar, meaning from beyond our solar system
ATLAS = discovered by our Asteroid… https://t.co/StDNRqvRCJ

Conspiracy theories that the moon landings did not take place have existed for decades, despite being consistently debunked.

In the episode, Kardashian can be seen showing actor Sarah Paulson — with whom she is co-starring in the upcoming Ryan Murphy legal drama “All’s Fair” — a quote from an interview with Buzz Aldrin, who, along with Neil Armstrong, took the first steps on the moon.

“There was no scary moment because it didn’t happen. It could’ve been scary, but it wasn’t because it didn’t happen,” she reads, “he says it all the time in interviews,” she added, “maybe we should find Buzz Aldrin.”

Kardashian was referring to a comment Aldrin made during a 2015 talk at the Oxford University Students’ Union, when he responded to a student’s question about the Apollo 11 mission.

“What was the scariest moment of the journey?” the student asked.

“Scariest? It didn’t happen,” Aldrin answered, smiling. “It could’ve been scary. Circuit breaker,” he says, before the moderator asks: “The circuit breaker on the [indecipherable]?”

“I’m glad somebody helps me,” Aldrin said, before continuing. “We came back inside after kicking up dust and picking up some rocks and of course, we had to send them up the ladder because that would be hazardous, carrying a big rock box up the ladder.”

He said the crew and team had thought of that plan ahead of time, and that Aldrin got into the cabin first so that his colleagues could hand the rock box up to him.

“Then we were supposed to tidy up and tidy up means get rid of stuff you don’t need so we won’t be as heavy to lift off,” he said, describing the process of pressurizing and depressurizing the cabin and hooking up to the spacecraft system, and how crews back on the ground said they could hear the crew through the seismographer that recorded the vibrations of sounds “bouncing around on the moon.”

He then described how the crew settled back into the cabin, and noticed something in the dust of the rocks they had been collecting.

“There was something that didn’t look like it belonged there. It was a circuit breaker — a broken circuit breaker, the end of it,” he said.

“Engine arm,” Aldrin added the label on the breaker said, which was for the system used for the landing engine. “That’s the one that gets us back in orbit and gets us home.”

He then said he “used a pen to push it in,” and then called it a “piece of cake.”

Later, during a scene back in her trailer, Kardashian tells a crew member behind the camera, “I centre conspiracies all the time,” before elaborating on her disbelief, saying that no stars are visible in any of the photographic evidence captured from the landing — a popular argument from skeptics, according to the Institute of Physics.

There is a simple explanation for the lack of stars, the institute says: the photos were taken during the day.

“This meant starlight lost the battle against the very bright surface of the Moon, too dim to show up in photos,” its website says.

According to the institute, every conspiracy theory claiming that the moon landings were fake has been disproven.

Often, the expert organization argues, those who claim the landings were staged say the U.S. government faked Apollo 11 and later missions to deal a crucial blow to the USSR in the Space Race, boost NASA funding or divert attention away from the Vietnam War.

Lorne Michaels Says Sinéad O’Connor Would Have Been Invited on SNL 50

by jummy84 August 24, 2025

What is among Saturday Night Live’s most controversial moments could have had a happy ending. In an all new interview with Matthew Belloni of Puck News, SNL creator Lorne Michaels said he had planned to bring back Sinéad O’Connor for a performance during the SNL50 live special.

“If [O’Connor] were still alive, I would have asked her to sing that song,” Michaels said in reference to the performance of “Nothing Compares 2 U” by Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard. O’Connor, of course, passed away in July 2023.

For context, O’Connor’s banishment from SNL stems from her October 3, 1992 appearance. During a rousing performance of the Bob Marley gem “War,” O’Connor tore up a picture of Pope John Paul II, telling audiences worldwide to “fight the real enemy.” The incident caused immediate controversy, and the singer never made another appearance on the iconic show. The incident was all over the news back then, and it caused the already controversial O’Connor to be labeled a true media pariah. Two weeks after the performance, O’Connor was nearly booed off the stage at the Bob Dylan tribute show at Madison Square Garden.

To makes matters worse, SNL’s coverage assumed a mocking tone almost in the aftermath of the episode. Later in the same season, Madonna tore up a photo of Joey Buttafucco (complete with the singer declaring that infamous philanderer as “the real enemy.”) The most egregious of these protests, however, was Joe Pesci’s appearance on SNL the week following O’Connor’s, during which the Catholic actor said he would’ve like to grab O’Connor “by the eyebrows” and “[give] her such a smack.”

For his part, Michaels has remained generally consistent over the years regarding his “relationship” with O’Connor and how he viewed the historic performance. At various times, he had called O’Connor “selfish” for her actions (via The Daily Beast.) As part of SNL’s “takeover” issue of Spin magazine published in February 1993, Michaels attacked O’Connor for her seemingly deceptive approach to the performance.

“I thought [it] was sort of the wrong place for it, I thought her behavior was inappropriate,” Michaels said. “Because it was difficult to do two comedy sketches after it, and also it was dishonest because she didn’t tell us she was going to do it.”

In the same Spin interview, Michaels recounted being shocked “the way you would be shocked at a houseguest pissing on a flower arrangement in the dining room.”

However, beginning this past January, Michaels began showing signs of his change of heart. In comments made during the documentary Ladies & Gentleman… 50 Years of SNL Music, Michaels revealed a deep well of respect for O’Connor’s actions.

“There was a part of me that just admired the bravery of what she’d done, and also the absolute sincerity of it,” Michaels said.

They do say that time heals all wounds, and given the fact that O’Connor may have been right to critique the Catholic Church, Michaels’ new perspective isn’t entirely out of left field. Elsewhere, Time magazine posthumously named O’Connor as the most influential woman of 1992 for her actions.

With Michaels’ comments as of late, SNL’s official tone toward O’Connor might be shifting outright, and that would lay to rest one of the uglier (albeit delicious) moments in the show’s long, storied history. Still, don’t expect too much more posthumous praise from Michaels given his mostly tight-lipped approach to managing SNL. But there is a continued cultural reawakening around O’Connor, and perhaps her forthcoming biopic will include and position this moment as one of great artistic significance and complicated cultural context.

You can read the rest of Michaels’ interview here; he and Belloni also spoke about Donald Trump, more from the SNL50 celebration, the forthcoming cancellation of Late Show With Stephen Colbert, and “secrets” from SNL‘s many seasons.

Below, relive genuine musical history with O’Connor’s full performance of “War.”
