Texas man indicted on murder charge in shooting of ‘King of the Hill’ voice actor Jonathan Joss

HOUSTON — A grand jury in Texas has indicted the man accused of killing “King of the Hill” voice actor Jonathan Joss on a murder charge.

But it is unclear whether Joss’ killing will be considered a hate crime. Police in San Antonio did not immediately return an email seeking comment Wednesday on whether its investigation had determined that Joss’ sexual orientation played a role in his shooting, and the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office declined to comment on the matter.

Police allege Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, 57, confronted Joss and his husband on June 1 as they were checking their mail at their San Antonio home, which had been burned down in January.

Joss’ husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, has claimed the person who killed the actor yelled “violent homophobic slurs” before opening fire.

Ceja Alvarez’s attorneys did not immediately return emails seeking comment Wednesday.

In June, Alfonso Otero, one of Ceja Alvarez’s attorneys, said his client was innocent and denied making any homophobic statements.

The grand jury returned the indictment Monday, and Ceja Alvarez remains free on a $200,000 bond.

A friend of the 59-year-old Joss has said that Joss and Ceja Alvarez were neighbors and the two had argued for years.

Initially, San Antonio police had said there was no evidence indicating the shooting was related to Joss’ sexual orientation. But San Antonio Police Chief William McManus later walked back that statement, saying it had been “premature” and that whether Joss’ sexual orientation played a role in the shooting was “part of the investigation.”

The district attorney’s office said in a statement Wednesday that Ceja Alvarez “is charged with murder, which is the most serious charge applicable to this crime under Texas law. As the case is still pending, no additional details or information can be released at this time.”

Under Texas law, a hate crime — if there’s a conviction — would be handled as an enhancement during sentencing and not as a separate charge.

Joss was the voice of John Redcorn, a Native American character on the popular “King of the Hill” animated series, which ran for 13 seasons from 1997 to 2008. A reboot of the show, which Joss had already worked on, premiered in August.

Joss also had a recurring role on the television show “Parks and Recreation,” playing Chief Ken Hotate. He appeared in two episodes of the series “Tulsa King” in 2022.

bitchy | Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted for… being on Trump’s enemies list

It’s been nine months and six days of war crimes, federal crimes, state crimes and psychopathy from the second Trump administration. There are new crimes every day, every hour from this administration, to the point where the rule of law has no meaning. The only silver lining is that Trump has hired some of the most incompetent, poorly-trained and stupid people ever. All of which to say, I couldn’t even remember why Trump was mad at James Comey, the former FBI Director who was one of the key players in handing Trump the 2016 election. Comey’s press conference about Hillary Clinton was one of the key events leading into the election’s final weeks. So why is Trump mad? Something about Russia, I guess. In any case, Comey made it onto Trump’s enemies list. On Thursday, Comey was indicted by a federal grand jury.

A federal grand jury on Thursday indicted James B. Comey, the former F.B.I. director, a culmination of President Trump’s relentless demand for retribution after the bureau investigated his 2016 presidential campaign over possible ties to Russia.

Mr. Comey was indicted on one count of making a false statement and one count of obstruction of a congressional proceeding in connection with his testimony before a Senate committee in September 2020.

The indictment, filed in Alexandria, Va., came over the objection of career prosecutors in the Eastern District of Virginia who found insufficient evidence to support charges but were overruled by Lindsey Halligan, a Trump loyalist handpicked by the president to run the office a few days ago.

It represents the most significant legal step yet by the Trump administration to harry, punish and humiliate a former official the president identified as an enemy, at the expense of procedural safeguards intended to shield the Justice Department from political interference and personal vendettas.

The bare-bones, two-page indictment was signed only by Ms. Halligan, a former defense lawyer for Mr. Trump who personally presented the case to the jury, despite her lack of any previous prosecutorial experience. Typically such filings are also endorsed by career prosecutors who have gathered the evidence in the case. Court records indicate that Ms. Halligan also tried to get the grand jury to indict Mr. Comey on a second false statement charge, and that it was rejected.

[From The NY Times]

Yeah, I completely understand how bad this is for the “system” and all of that. But A) I f–king despise Comey and he’s a huge reason why we’re in this mess. B) I refuse to see or speak about Comey like he’s a martyr. He’s not – he’s a career bureaucrat who made a conscious choice to tip the scale of public opinion in Trump’s favor, then acted shocked when Trump demanded fealty. C) None of this sh-t is going to hold up in the long run. In 2026 and 2027, when all of Pam Bondi and Kash Patel’s federal cases begin their trials and proceedings, ALL of the cases are going to completely fall apart. That goes for all of the recent high-profile shootings too – the FBI has already been caught manufacturing evidence and tainting potential jury pools. So, whatever. Jim Comey will be fine in the long run, and even if he’s not, I don’t give a sh-t.

🚨 BREAKING: James Comey posts a video statement following his indictment

“My family and I have known for years that there are costs to standing up to Donald Trump, but we couldn’t imagine ourselves living any other way.

We will not live on our knees, and you shouldn’t either.… pic.twitter.com/7oisRjWAfK

Movie Producer David Brown Indicted in $12 Million Fraud

by jummy84 August 28, 2025
written by jummy84

Movie producer David Brown was arrested Wednesday on charges that he defrauded business partners out of $12 million by creating fake companies and using investor funds to pay his personal expenses.

Brown, 39, was indicted on 21 counts of wire fraud, money laundering and identity theft. Among other things, he is accused of setting up a company called Hollywood Covid Testing LLC and using it to bill productions for COVID tests that never occurred.

Prosecutors allege that Brown also swindled investors in real estate and film deals, using the money to buy a 2025 Mercedes Benz G-Wagon and a series of Teslas, a house for his mother, as well as to pay his mortgage, install a pool and a Subzero freezer, pay for private school tuition and to put $70,000 into surrogacy services.

He is also accused of diverting $970,263 in investor funds to an entity set up to make a film about Patty Hearst and her kidnapping by the Symbionese Liberation Army – a project that did not come to fruition.

Brown produced “The Fallout,” a 2021 film starring Jenna Ortega that won the grand jury award at South by Southwest. He is also listed as an executive producer on “The Apprentice,” the 2024 film about a young Donald Trump.

Last year, Brown announced the launch of the Screen Company, a production, sales and finance entity.

“I believe in the power of storytelling,” he said at the time. “Our mission is to provide reliable and flexible financing that brings extraordinary stories to life.”

Brown has been repeatedly sued by investors who accuse him of fraud. The Los Angeles Times extensively covered the allegations against him in 2023. Brown denied the allegations to the paper and said they were the result of misunderstandings.

Brown used to live in Sherman Oaks, but has since moved to South Carolina, where he was arrested Wednesday. He made an initial appearance in federal court and will later be arraigned in Los Angeles.

In addition to producing, he has worked as a unit production manager and a production accountant.
