Exclusive! Shaggy: The craziest driving I’ve seen in the world is in India

by jummy84 December 7, 2025
written by jummy84

Jamaican- American, raggae- dancehall star, Shaggy recently released his song Boom Body with Akon and Aidonia. Shaggy who began his career in the 90s, speaking about what connects him to the young audience says, “I keep my finger on the pulse of things. Music is my only job. I’m not interested in many other things. I may dabble into things here and there but I like what music represents to culture. Part of staying cool and fresh comes from the cultural shift that music crates.”

Shaggy/ Parsons, 9122 Records

Shaggy has been touring India since the 90s, “From the time Mumbai was Bombay,” he says. He adds, “The food is always a big part of my visits, I’ve had some of the best curries in the world. I’ve always had a great time in India. The big part has been going to Indian weddings, I’ve performed at quite a few. You guys have some of the most elaborate weddings I’ve seen but the crazy part is getting to the wedding. I’ve never seen traffic like that while going to weddings and I don’t know how there aren’t accidents. The craziest driving I’ve seen in the world is in India, no country in the world can top that.”

Shaggy recounts that his son Robb Banks was recently in India as part of the lineup at Rolling Loud that made its debut in Navi Mumbai’s Kharghar. He says, “He put on the long shirt that males wear (kurta). He wore it on stage and rocked it. He really indulged in the country’s culture and I love that about him. He’s always doing crazy stuff.”

Shaggy says being an independent artiste, he may not have massive budgets but it also has its own advantages. He says, “Being an independent artiste I can move at my own pace. Some artistes get caught in their own legacy, where they are scared to put out music based on what they have done before. Im the opposite. You look at any huge artiste and they have more flops than hits but noone is remembered for their flops. The minute you give a hit it erases every flop you’ve had.”

Though he has sucessfully stayed relevant over several decades, Shaggy adds that he has no illusions about creating a legacy. “My kids dont know who Michael Jackson or Elvis Presley is. They may know Bob Marley, being Jamaican that’s part of the culture but eventually everything fades.” He adds that rather than following trends he has always focused on creating songs that the local DJ can play and ensure people have a good time dancing.

Moving on to his next album Lottery, he says, “It comes out in March. Expect songs with Robin Thicke, Anthony Hamilton, Sting and many other artistes.” He adds that collaborations with artistes like Akon only takes them one listen to know which track will be a banger.

Directors Mira Nair and Bijoy Shetty on Changing How the World Sees India

by jummy84 November 15, 2025
written by jummy84

When Nair and Shetty meet over Zoom for a conversation with Vogue, they exchange notes about each other’s work and discuss the tug-of-war between authenticity and representation. Most of all, they talk about resisting the pressure to flatten identities into marketable tropes. For both filmmakers, the challenge and the joy are the same: to show India as it is—in all its messy, irresistible complexity.

Vogue: Mira, you’ve often said that you’re an Indian filmmaker at home in the world. Your films have helped change how the world sees India and its diaspora. Bijoy, your music videos, particularly your recent work with Hanumankind, are strongly rooted in Indian culture. How important is the idea of representation in your work?

Mira Nair: I am not into being an ambassador and saying my country is so wonderful, so rich. I don’t approach filmmaking like a Benetton ad. The point is to plunge into the layers of life in front of you and extricate the humanity that is local to that place, and to do it in a way that is so truthful that it becomes universal. The point is that we’re not islands among ourselves; we are actually all utterly human. That said, as an Indian filmmaker living in New York, then in East Africa, I was always in these places where I was a novelty, where I may have been forced to explain myself. But I grew up with a kind of fierceness—I’m not going to justify myself or give you lessons on my bindi. I refuse to let people who haven’t lived in our streets take our culture and bugger it up.

Bijoy Shetty: Sadly, colonization is in our DNA, where we assume that Western culture is the superior one. But in all honesty, I’ve benefited from that perception. With “Big Dawgs,” a lot of the reaction was because they never thought that an Indian could rap like this. It’s not like this tremendous video with high production value. It’s just the shock of it being an Indian rapper and an Indian music video that has taken it wherever it’s gone. But once that novelty wears off, does your work have a strong enough identity to keep the viewer’s attention? That’s what really matters.

Mira, you’ve spoken about how your primary influence is the street, whether it’s where your stories come from or your tendency to cast non-actors in your films. Bijoy, hip-hop was born on the streets of the Bronx. Can you talk about what the street means to you as a character, and how you look to it for inspiration?

bitchy | Prince William plans to take his Earthshot Prize to India next year

by jummy84 November 12, 2025
written by jummy84

Britain’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer actually traveled to Brazil for a few days last week. He attended a few events for Prince William’s Earthshot Prize, and then both men traveled to Belem for the first two days of the COP30 conference. PM Starmer was back in England in time to attend the Festival of Remembrance on Saturday night. It’s widely believed that Starmer and William traveled back to the UK together, but William still skipped the Festival of Remembrance. Lazy, lazy, lazy. Well, according to Kensington Palace, William and Starmer have a great relationship, and William is whinging to Starmer about how the government needs to “do more” on the environment. There isn’t an eyeroll big enough. Some highlights from Roya Nikkhah’s big post-Earthshot clean-up, with some exclusive info about next year’s Earthshot Prize ceremony.

Big Boy Billy takes on big business: The Prince of Wales has criticised big businesses for “falling short” and lacking “courage” in their attempts to tackle climate change. Prince William, who spent five days last week in Brazil for his Earthshot prize awards and the Cop30 climate conference, is deeply frustrated by the private sector’s apathy on the environment.

William raised concerns, bless his heart: A royal source said: “During his visit to Brazil, the Prince of Wales raised his concern about the lack of meaningful support from global businesses in tackling the climate crisis when he met with the prime minister and the secretary of state for energy security and net zero. He believes that major companies are still not doing nearly enough. He wants to see bold leadership in the private sector and, honestly, many businesses are still reluctant to get involved. Even when some are making genuine progress, they’re rarely talking about it. There are positives, companies such as Ikea, Uber and [the food giant] Compass Group are showing real leadership and deserve credit, investing in Earthshot prize finalists. But far too many others are still falling short and it’s time for more of them to step up to the plate.”

William & Starmer: The prince has developed a “warm relationship” with Starmer, the first prime minister to attend William’s environmental awards since they began in 2021, and urged the government to encourage more action from the private sector on green issues.

Next year’s Earthshot will go to India: William plans to take next year’s Earthshot prize to India, in a sign of his determination to engage with the world’s biggest polluters. India, the most populous nation in the world with more than 1.4 billion people, is the world’s third-biggest polluter after China and America. The country is responsible for about 8 per cent of global carbon emissions, with coal as its primary power source, but has set a goal of reducing emissions by 50 per cent by 2030 and for the economy to be net zero by 2070. Neither Narendra Modi, the Indian prime minister, nor President Xi of China attended the Cop30 leaders’ conference last week.

Willy will go to China too: A royal source said: “This is about bringing people on the journey. We always said we’d like to take Earthshot to every corner of the planet. There are so many interesting things happening in India in the sector and the prince is looking forward to seeing it.” The Sunday Times has also revealed that William wants to take the prize to China in the next five years, despite the UK’s strained relations with the world’s biggest polluter, in marked contrast to his father’s approach. The King has never visited mainland China because of his views on the regime’s treatment of Tibet and its human rights record. William, however, is said to believe that you “can’t exclude a big chunk of the planet when thinking about fighting for its future”. Sources close to William said he had a “renewed sense of purpose” about taking the prize to China.

[From The Times]

I actually forgot that Charles has never stepped foot in China. That’s a bit crazy, especially considering how well-traveled he was as Prince of Wales. As for William’s plan to go to India next year… lol. He is really going to march into India and try to lecture and bully the whole country, meanwhile India has become a thriving economic powerhouse and vibrant democracy with no need for an ugly white savior, especially one from a member of a supposed royal family which looted many of India’s treasures. William should arrive in India with the Kohinoor diamond in hand before he lectures anyone on the environment. As for all of the stuff about Basher Billy lecturing businesses about the environment – he just comes across as so deeply unlikeable, unaccomplished and pitiful.

Shah Rukh Khan reveals he agreed to do Chak De! India to honour someone special

by jummy84 November 4, 2025
written by jummy84

Shah Rukh Khan celebrated his 60th birthday in a unique way, making it particularly special for his fans. Although he was unable to come at the balcony of his residence, Mannat, due to safety concerns, Shah Rukh ensured he connected with his fans at a special fan event. During this event, he shared insights into his career, family life, and some of his most cherished films. A particularly special moment happened when clips from his iconic movies were shown, and a still from Chak De India made him emotional.

He then revealed, for the first time, the true motivation behind his decision to accept the role in the film: it was a heartfelt tribute to his late father, Meer Taj Mohammed Khan, who had a great passion for hockey. Shah Rukh explained that his father had once dreamed of representing India in the sport but had to abandon this dream due to an injury. When Chak De India was offered to him, Shah Rukh saw it as a chance to honour his father, and he even shared this thought to the film’s producer, Aditya Chopra, saying, “Yeh picture main karunga because I want to do it for my father.”

According to Bollywood Hungama, Shah Rukh Khan said after watching a still from Chak De India during the fan event, “This sport is very important to me. My father used to play. I really wanted to be a hockey player and try to play for India. Then I suffered an injury and I couldn’t pursue the sport. In a way, it was good as I became an actor.”

Shah Rukh added, “When this film came to me, I realised that it could be a tribute to my father. I don’t like to give films more meaning than necessary. Films entertainment ke liye hai. But I remember I told Adi (Aditya Chopra) that ‘Yeh picture main karunga because I want to do it for my father’. I can play a little bit of hockey and hence, it was very interesting.”

Shah Rukh Khan Chak De India

For Shah Rukh Khan, being a part of the Chak De India team was a truly memorable experience. He expressed his admiration for his co-stars, saying that the girls in the film were exceptionally talented and showed great skill in playing hockey. He recalled a friendly football match in Australia where a women’s team easily defeated the men’s team by a huge margin. Shah Rukh shared that they had not expected the film’s huge success. It was initially meant to be a somewhat different movie, but it eventually went onto become one of the most cherished and impactful sports films in Indian cinema.

Australian fashion label Kirrikin makes its India debut

by jummy84 November 4, 2025
written by jummy84

The Capital went a little Aussie chic recently as Australian First Nations fashion took over the runway. Hosted by the Australian High Commission along with Kirrikin and the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), the showcase brought together culture, art and style in one vibrant celebration.

Her collection, ‘Evoke’ was all about fitted blazers, wrap dresses, flowy skirts, and tailored pants in soft viscose crepe

The evening opened with a traditional Aboriginal dance, a cultural practice that dates back more than 60,000 years. Dancers moved to beats inspired by the kangaroo and emu, offering a glimpse into Australia’s storytelling traditions through movement, rhythm, and colour. The performance set the tone for what unfolded next.

Taking over the runway was Kirrikin, which means “Sunday’s best clothes” in the Wonnarua language. Founded by designer Amanda Healy, the Indigenous Australian label is known for turning hand-painted First Nations artworks into elegant, contemporary pieces. Designed in Australia and crafted in Noida, the collection reflected the growing creative bond between the two countries. “Fashion has always been a bridge and this showcase is a true meeting of cultures,” said Sunil Sethi, FDCI chairman.

For Healy, the night also carried extra meaning as it marked ten years of her label and Kirrikin’s debut on an Indian runway. Her collection, ‘Evoke’ was all about fitted blazers, wrap dresses, flowy skirts, and tailored pants in soft viscose crepe inspired by the Noongar people of southwest Western Australia. “I chose India as my major supplier because of the sheer fabulousness of your fabrics,” said Healy.

Enrique Iglesias made a spectacular comeback to India after more than a decade, performing to sold-out crowds during his two-day concert in Mumbai on October 29 and 30. Held at the MMRDA Grounds in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), the concerts were part of the global tour of the “King of Latin Pop,” marking his first India performance since 2012.

Ahead of his shows, the 50-year-old Grammy-winning artist spoke to Zoom about why he decided to return. “It’s the people — their warmth and passion for music have always stayed with me,” Enrique said, reflecting on his earlier visits in 2004 and 2012. He added, “I’ve heard so much about the incredible energy in Mumbai — I couldn’t wait to feel that connection again.”

The concerts were nothing short of magical — a blend of nostalgia, emotion, and energy. Opening acts by Progressive Brothers and Jonita Gandhi set the perfect tone for the night before Enrique took the stage for a 90-minute electrifying set featuring 19 of his greatest hits. Fans sang and danced along to classics like Hero, Bailamos, and Tonight (I’m Lovin’ You), as the singer’s charisma lit up the Mumbai sky.

In his interview, Enrique shared what he believes makes his music connect so deeply with fans: “It’s about emotion — when something comes from the heart, people feel it.” When asked about his “King of Latin Pop” title, he humbly replied, “I just try to keep making music that feels honest and connects with people.”

Baahubali The Epic box office collection day 1: SS Rajamouli film records biggest opening day for re-release in India

by jummy84 October 31, 2025
written by jummy84

Baahubali The Epic box office collection day 1: SS Rajamouli and Prabhas’ two blockbusters, Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali: The Conclusion, re-released in theatres today as one film, titled Baahubali The Epic. The film received positive reviews from audiences and also took a bumper opening.

Baahubali The Epic is a re-edited re-release of the two Baahubali films packaged as one.

Baahubali The Epic box office performance

According to Sacnilk, Baahubali The Epic collected ₹7.88 crore on day 1 at the domestic box office. The film has not only surpassed the opening day haul of previous re-releases such as Vijay’s Ghilli (reportedly ₹4.87 crore) and Mahesh Babu’s Khaleja (reportedly ₹5.75 crore), but it has also exceeded the day-one collections of recent blockbusters like Lokah Chapter 1 Chandra ( ₹2.71 crore) and Dragon ( ₹6.5 crore).

About Baahubali The Epic

Baahubali: The Epic is a remastered version of filmmaker SS Rajamouli’s two-part magnum opus — Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) and Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017). The combined film, re-released in cinemas on 31 October 2025, is backed by Arka Media Works. The re-edited version runs for approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes, with select sequences trimmed. Featuring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, and Tamannaah Bhatia in lead roles, the epic chronicles the story of Mahishmati, its power struggles, and the rise of the valiant warrior, Amarendra Baahubali.

The film opened to overwhelmingly positive responses from audiences and critics. The re-release isn’t confined to Indian theatres — it has been re-released across more than 1,150 cinemas worldwide, including over 400 screens in the US, 210 in the UK and Ireland, and numerous venues in the UAE, Australia, and Southeast Asia.

Annapurna Studios’ CTO, CV Rao, the man behind the transformation of two films into a 3-hour-44-minute-long spectacle, told Hindustan Times, “When Baahubali first came out, each film took us four months of post-production. It took us approximately 10 weeks, or around two months, to complete the project this time around. But the bigger challenge for us was to deliver the output in multiple formats.”
