Neurologist explains why resistance training is important for all ages: ‘Keeps bones dense, reduces fracture risk…’

by jummy84 November 14, 2025
written by jummy84

Bone density naturally declines as we age, but the good news is that regular exercise can slow this process and protect you from serious injuries later in life. If you’ve been putting off strength training, consider this your sign – your stability, balance, and overall strength depend on it. Simple, consistent resistance work can make the difference between fragile bones and a resilient, healthy body as you grow older.

According to Dr Bing, resistance training is important for everyone. (Unsplash)

Dr Bing, a neurologist, biostatistician, brain-health advocate, and health content creator, has explained why resistance training is essential at every age to maintain strong, healthy bones and muscles. In an Instagram video shared on November 12, the neurologist explains how lack of exercise weakens bones and makes them susceptible to fractures, and emphasises how resistance training helps build strength, stability, and long-term bone health.

Why is resistance training important?

Dr Bing highlights the importance of regular exercise, especially resistance training, for optimal bone health, no matter what age you are. He narrates the story of one of his patients – “I recently saw a patient in her 70s who came in after a simple fall at home. She tripped on a step, didn’t even fall from a height and she broke her femur and also suffered a brain bleed from hitting her head and then she had seizures from that. She was then found to have osteoporosis which is when your bones become weaker and more brittle.”

He notes that, unfortunately, cases like this are quite common because of a lack of physical activity. If we fail to challenge our muscles, our bones lose strength, and the balance and stability that naturally wane with age deteriorate even more quickly. The neurologist stresses the importance of resistance training and explains, “But why is resistance training particularly important? Well, because it loads the skeleton and stimulates your bone growth and it signals your body to keep your bones dense and that would drastically reduce hip and femur fracture risk.”

What happens when you skip resistance training?

Dr Bing emphasises, “If you don’t do resistance training in your lower body or your core, you won’t have strong quads, glutes, and core. And your body would have a hard time stabilising itself when you trip. And weak muscles mean that you have slower protective reactions as well. And you can’t catch yourself in time if you fall.”

The neurologist clarifies that you don’t need to be an Olympic-level weightlifter or squat 200 pounds. The key is routine muscle engagement – resistance bands, your own body weight, light dumbbells, or anything that makes your muscles work against some resistance.

Miles Teller Says ‘Fantastic Four’ Got ‘Fucked Up’ by ‘One Important Person’

by jummy84 November 14, 2025
written by jummy84

Miles Teller opened up about leading the ill-fated 2015 “Fantastic Four” adaptation, telling Andy Cohen that he already wasn’t expecting a warm response for the superhero reboot after watching the final cut.

“When I first saw the movie, I remember talking to one of the studio heads and said, ‘I think we’re in trouble,’” Teller said in an interview on Cohen’s SiriusXM talk show. Teller went on to explain the industry pressure he felt in his late twenties to take on a superhero film — a genre that the “Top Gun: Maverick” star hasn’t touched since.

“As a young actor at that time, it’s like, ‘Alright, if you want to be taken seriously as a leading man, you got to get on this superhero train. That was our chance,” Teller said. “And the casting, I thought, was spectacular. I love all those actors.”

“Fantastic Four,” which starred Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell as the titular team, was critically reviled upon release. Directed by Josh Trank, the feature only grossed $168 million globally against a $120 million production budget. The Marvel characters were put on ice for the next decade, only revived last summer for the Marvel Cinematic Universe entry “The Fantastic 4: First Steps.”

Speaking with Cohen, Teller appeared to lay the blame for the project’s failure on one individual, though he did not put a name to his allegations.

“It’s unfortunate for that, because so many people worked so hard on that movie. And honestly, maybe there was one really important person who kind of fucked it all up,” Teller said.

Teller is currently promoting his next feature “Eternity,” in which he, Elizabeth Olsen and Callum Turner play a love triangle in the afterlife. A24 is releasing the film to theaters on Nov. 26.

Skincare Guru Ole Henriksen Says Smiling at Yourself in the Mirror Is Just as Important as Your Serums

by jummy84 November 4, 2025
written by jummy84

Good skin and good vibes! Skincare legend Ole Henriksen has pampered some of Hollywood’s most iconic faces including Barbra Streisand, Naomi Campbell, Cher, Diana Ross, Halle Berry, Laura Dern, Jessica Alba, and Katy Perry, and now he’s sharing his surprisingly simple secrets for getting a glow.

While his Scandaniva born brand is known for results-driven staples like the Violet Ice Cold Plunge Pore Mask, Hydrabarrier Nourishing Face Oil, Banana Bright + Eye Crème, Pout Preserve Peptide Lip Treatment, and Dewtopia 5% Acid Firming Night Crème, he tells ET that real radiance starts from within.

“Famous or not, I’ve always treated everyone like a star. Everyone in my book always deserves the best. … My goal is to help everyone love themselves and their skin,” he explains.

This philosophy applies when clients visit the company’s spa in West Hollywood, California with “emotional” skin, from cystic acne flare ups to dull complexions. His solution: a mindset-first, moisturizer second approach.

“Skin is your biggest organ, so you need to take care of it like the rest of yourself. … It’s about lifestyle, both mental and physical, that cares for skin,” the founder explains.

“It’s important to take a moment for yourself. Get up a little earlier to relax in the moment and avoid being rushed or stressed. … Splash your face with cold water, look at yourself in the mirror, and lend yourself a smile. It’s all about an inner glow that radiates and a love affair with life.”

Then comes the products, which are applied slowly and intentionally with a calming touch.

“Do your own spa at home and give back to yourself and give back to yourself and your skin. Start with some deep breathing and close your eyes before filling your sink with warm water mixed with lavender or rosemary oil. Then, put a towel in the water and hold it on your skin to rev up circulation,” the entrepreneur recommends.

“From there, I massage each step of my routine gently into my skin with outward and upward motions and allow 1-2 minutes between to let everything soak in. …Plan the time and invest in you. … Your health is your wealth, and you are #1 in your life,” he shares.

Jamie Lee Curtis reveals why her new film The Lost Bus is the most important one she will ever do

by jummy84 October 1, 2025
written by jummy84

One of the most striking of those stories was that of the heroic bus driver Kevin McKay and school teacher Mary Ludwig, who helped rescue 22 elementary students to safety from the fire.

The inspiring story has now been brought to life by Apple in new film The Lost Bus – directed by Paul Greengrass and led by Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera, with Hollywood icon Jamie Lee Curtis serving as a producer.

“I first heard the story of Kevin McKay from the Washington Post, when they were doing a review of Lizzie Johnson’s book [Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire],” Curtis explained during an exclusive interview with RadioTimes.com.

“They highlighted his story, and I remember I said to my husband, kind of flippantly… ‘Well, there’s the movie.’ Because of course, you could tell that very interpersonal, human story amid this inferno that would be almost impossible to imagine filming.

“I didn’t do anything that day, and the next day, I was driving in my car in the mountains,” she continued. “And there was an NPR interview of Scott Simon interviewing Lizzie Johnson, the author of the book. And he said… ‘Lizzie, the story that got me was Kevin McKay and Mary Ludwig.’

“And I pulled my car over on the side of the road. I called Jason Blum, who’s my business partner, and I said, Jason, I want to buy this book. I’m sending you links. It’s going to be expensive to buy, but I believe it’ll be the most important thing either one of us do in the movie business.”

In the film, Kevin McKay is portrayed by one of the most celebrated actors of our generation – Matthew McConaughey. And the Oscar winner explained that playing a real hero was both a responsibility and an honour.

“I say there’s a responsibility because you’re not only dealing with the portrayal of those people, but also an entire communal experience where people died,” he said. “Brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers died – so how you tell that story [is important.]

He added: “Even though we made it a piece of entertainment and we took our dramatic license, it’s inspired by those events and it kept to the spirit of what happened and who these people were and where they ended up after this film.”

It was the job of acclaimed director and screenwriter Greengrass – known for his work on the Bourne films and a number of true story dramas including United 93 – to bring this true story of heroism to life, and Ferrera called the filmmaker’s approach “masterful”.

“As an actor, I wasn’t worried about my part in making a big movie,” she explained “My job and my lane was to tell the story of this character.

“What is so beautiful about how Paul works is that I felt I had everything I needed to be clear about what my character’s journey was and then what he asks is complete and utter trust, let it all go.

Paul Greengrass on the set of The Lost Bus. Apple

The trust that Greengrass required from his actors was crucial for telling the epic story, as he would immerse the actors in the drama with 30-minute-long takes that saw 6 to 10 cameras rolling simultaneously.

“At a certain point, you can’t keep track of what’s going on, you just have to know and trust that Paul and this incredible crew are making a big movie and my job is to be present and be in the moment and tell the character’s journey,” said Ferrera.

“It’s very easy with Paul to get out of your head,” added McConaughey. “It’s actually impossible to stay in your head because there’s so much going on and every time a camera is at a different spot. Okay, he’s corralling this thing; let me just handle what I’m doing. I don’t need to look for a mark, I don’t need to look for a light, I don’t have to be technical. Let me just behave.”

While preparing for the role, McConaughey was also faced with a pertinent question: what is the definition of a hero? Though there isn’t one definitive answer, he came to the conclusion that it was someone who consistently “runs towards the crisis, not away from it.”

The selfless acts of bravery that McKay and Ludwig exhibited were something that lingered with both McConaughey and Ferrera long after filming commenced as they tried to truly understand what these people were thinking in the moments of crisis.

“[When] someone who is doing the best to save their immediate family, what is it that makes someone [make that choice] when they get the call to take care of 22 kids that they’re not related to. Is it the right thing to do? What was it that made Kevin make that choice? He didn’t have to pick up, he could have got his mom and son,” said McConaughey.

America Ferrera and Matthew McConaughey in The Lost Bus

Ferrera echoed this sentiment, explaining that it was something that would be hard for “many of us to imagine” and that being a parent was the only context that she had for this selfless bravery.

“[When you’re a parent], you don’t have a choice to run from the crisis, you have to run to the crisis. Both of these characters make such a counter-intuitive choice which is they choose to run towards dangers and away from their duty as parents,” she said.

“That moment for both of them is that they chose against their deepest instincts as parents to rescue their children and save what is most precious to them and instead, the selflessness of showing up for a community that you don’t know because that’s a sense of duty that you feel in that moment. That’s something that is hard for so many of us to imagine.”

The end of the movie shows the devastation caused by the fire and the impact it had on the Butte County community of Paradise. However, it also showed a potential for a brighter future and hope for a rebirth.

“The town of Paradise lost 85 members of their community and it burned the entire community,” said Curtis. “But today, it’s a thriving and surviving community. They are a robust and rebuilding group of people.”

Curtis added that she was most proud that the cast and crew of helped support the creation of a permanent memorial to the people of Paradise, which will “give significant support to that permanent memorial once the movie is done and gone”.

The Hope Plaza is a landmark dedicated to the memory of the Camp Fire and is a place of honour for the first responders and those who perished, as people come together to reflect and inspire hope for the future of the community.

Are Shared Interests Important For A Relationship?

by jummy84 September 16, 2025

Different opinions and interests also prevent boredom. Mancunians Lizzie, 27, and Harry, 29, have been together for almost 10 years and note that their differences are what keep the relationship fresh. “There are interests we’ve picked up from each other and do together but it’s the separate ones which allow us to have independence and our own space,” says Lizzie. The couple certainly don’t agree on everything, especially when it comes to what constitutes fun – yoga vs rugby, for example. “You have friends for a reason,” she continues. “They’re who I have the most shared tastes with, and it makes spending time with them that much more fun.”

“Assemble!” – Foo Fighters are teasing a return with “important shredding updates”

by jummy84 September 8, 2025
written by jummy84

Foo Fighters appear to be teasing their return, calling on fans to “assemble” and sharing some photos from the studio. Check out the posts below.

The band’s 11th and latest album, ‘But Here We Are’, was released in 2023. It marked their first material since the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins the previous year, and saw them enlist Josh Freese as a touring sticksman.

  • READ MORE: Foo Fighters live in Manchester: invincible and still untouchable

This July, Dave Grohl and co. marked their 30th anniversary by sharing a new single called ‘Today’s Song’. Earlier this year, Freese announced that he had departed the Foos after they “decided to go in a different direction with their drummer”.

The group have since reportedly enlisted Ilan Rubin – essentially swapping with Nine Inch Nails for their ex-touring drummer Freese.

Last Thursday (September 4), Foo Fighters seemingly began the rollout of their next era by posting a shot of the six-piece band’s legs and feet standing together in a circle.

“Foo Fighters Assemble!!!” they captioned the snap. They then hinted at an imminent announcement, writing: “Make sure you’re subscribed to the newsletter for info you won’t want to miss… just sayin’…” Sign up here.

Another upload last Saturday (September 6) saw Grohl, Nate Mendel and Pat Smear recording in Studio 606 at some point in 2025. Yesterday (7), the band posted a photo of Chris Shiflett putting down a guitar part. “Shifty Sunday!!!” they wrote.

The latter picture also directed followers to “sign up for more important shredding updates” via the Foos’ newsletter. The group are yet to share more posts or further information, at the time of writing.

Foo Fighters haven’t performed live since this time last year, but are scheduled to play some gigs in Indonesia, Japan, Singapore and Mexico next month and into November – suggesting new material could emerge soon.

They reportedly cancelled European dates for 2025 last year, following the news that Grohl had “recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage”.

Freese recently addressed his sacking from Foo Fighters, explaining: “Looking back, it was probably more an issue with their management.” However, the drummer said the Foos’ material “wasn’t music that I really resonated with”.

Upon sharing ‘Today’s Song’, Grohl thanked every former member of the band for their contributions throughout the years. He praised “the thunderous wizardry of Josh Freese”, and said that Hawkins was “still in everything we do, everywhere we go, forever”.

It’s really important that they are here, adding their voice

by jummy84 August 28, 2025
written by jummy84

Festival Republic boss Melvin Benn has reassured fans Kneecap won’t be censored at their upcoming Electric Picnic slot.

  • READ MORE: Kneecap on the cover – giving peace, protest and partying a chance

The Irish language trio have come under intense scrutiny for their critiques of Israel and vocal support of Palestine, and are set to perform this Saturday (August 30) at Electric Picnic in Co Laois.

Speaking ahead of their slot at Ireland’s largest music event, Benn said promoters behind Electric Picnic felt that adding Kneecap to the line-up was “really important” (via Belfast Live).

“Musically, you know [they are] fantastic, but in terms of what’s going on in the world, it’s really important that they are here, adding their voice. I will hasten to remind people that they headlined the Hazelwood stage in 2018, so we’ve had a long history with Kneecap.”

When asked whether the festival had a policy in place for handling Kneecap’s performance, he insisted: “No, mics won’t be switched off.”

His comments come in light of the BBC making a U-turn on their decision to show the band’s incendiary set at Glastonbury live. That gig, which was available to stream after they performed, saw the band hit out Prime Minister Keir Starmer – who argued that it was “not appropriate” for the them to be appearing at the festival.

“The Prime Minister of your country said he didn’t want us to play, so fuck Keir Starmer,” Mo Chara said. Additionally, Kneecap played a new track and reaffirmed their solidarity with Palestine and the activist group Palestine Action – now a proscribed terrorist group under UK law.

Benn added that Kneecap were “great lads, they’ve got really important songs, they’re brilliant live, but they’ve also got really important messages”.

He continued: “They didn’t do anything wrong at Glastonbury, it’s yet to be proven whether they have done anything wrong anywhere else in the world. So, you know, they are on home territory here and I think they will be really relaxed and the crowd will be really appreciative of it.”

Benn was also asked about a recent incident that saw Irish The Mary Wallopers have their sound cut by Portsmouth’s Victorious festival organisers and the Palestinian flag they had on stage taken away, a decision that was met with furious responses from both the band themselves and many of the other artists on the bill.

Several acts, including The Last Dinner Party, The Academic, Cliffords and Esme Emerson, decided to boycott the festival as a result.

Benn described the incident as “shocking”, and said he was “glad that artists ended up withdrawing as a result of it,” adding that “it definitely won’t be my policy”.

Even more recently, Reading Festival – an event Benn also runs – took place over this past weekend and saw several artists call for a free Palestine, with Hozier using his headline set to defend Kneecap, saying: “Irish musicians rapping or supporting the people of Palestine is not an act of terrorism.”

Fans went on to criticise the fact that his performance was not livestreamed on BBC iPlayer.

Benn’s comments in defence of Kneecap come shortly after the band cancelled their sold-out 2025 US headline tour earlier this week, news that came shortly after Mo Chara’s terrorism case was adjourned until next month at his second court hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London last Wednesday (August 20).

Gigs had been scheduled in New York, Nashville, Washington D.C., Boston, Chicago and other cities across the US throughout October. Chara (real name Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh) first appeared in court in June, when he was released on unconditional bail.

The terrorism charges were levelled against him in May for allegedly displaying a Hezbollah flag on stage at a London show last November. The rapper is yet to enter a plea, but has denied any wrongdoing.

His lawyers are seeking to throw out the case, arguing that the terror charge against him was brought outside the time limit. They claim that it was brought a day after the six-month limit for such charges.

However, prosecutors say the charge was brought exactly within the required time limit.

Responding to the terror charge in May, Kneecap denied the offence and vowed to “vehemently defend ourselves”. “This is political policing,” they wrote. “This is a carnival of distraction. We are not the story. Genocide is.”

Kneecap have since returned to the stage for a defiant set at Rock en Seine, where pro-Israel protestors attempted to disrupt their performance.

Earlier this month, the trio led chants of “fuck KKR” at Øya Festival 2025 before condemning the “hate-filled” Hungarian Prime Minister in a video broadcast at Sziget in Budapest.

The 3 Most Important Jacket Trends of Fall 2025

The 3 Most Important Jacket Trends of Fall 2025

by jummy84 August 27, 2025
written by jummy84

Like many, fall is my favorite season by a mile. And because of this, I tend to overdo it when it comes to shopping this time of year. As soon as the boots, sweaters, jeans, and yes, jackets hit the new arrivals sections of my favorite retailers, my willpower is out the window. But this year, I’ve decided to make some changes—starting with jackets.

Outerwear is one of those categories that doesn’t cycle in and out of style quite as quickly as other types of fashion items, so I tend to hang on to my jackets for years. Because of this, I don’t really need to invest in every jacket trend there is each fall, tempting though it may be. So for fall 2025, I refuse to buy more than three jackets. The trends I’ve narrowed it down to are versatile and only mildly trendy, so I know I’ll still be enthusiastic about wearing them long after this particular fall.

If you want to know what I think are the top three jacket trends to buy this fall, keep scrolling to see them in action on cool fashion people, and shop them for the jacket section of your closet.

Stand-Collar Jackets

Call them what you want—stand collar, funnel neck, turtleneck—these jackets are the definition of chic. Every outfit they’re paired with becomes infinitely more cool and elevated in an instant. And whether you choose to go with a sporty technical fabric (such as nylon) or an elegant classic one (such as wool), you can’t go wrong. I can’t decide so I might have to add both to my wardrobe.

Oversized Leather Bomber Jackets

The leather bomber jacket trend isn’t new for fall 2025, but it’s set to be bigger than ever this season. It’s a piece that looks as cool with sweatpants as it does a satin slip skirt. If I had a dollar for every cool influencer or fashion person I’ve seen wear a leather bomber this year, I could buy one of these jackets.
