Shah Rukh Khan & Kajol’s DDLJ Tribute Bronze Statue Unveiled At Leicester Square
Bollywood

“To Be Honest, I Had No Idea DDLJ Would Become This Phenomenon!…”

Marking the 30th year of Yash Raj Films’ epic blockbuster, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol unveiled a bronze statue of Raj & Simran at London’s Leicester Square yesterday. The bronze statue of them is iconic because it is the first-ever Indian film to be honoured with a statue at Leicester Square, as it joined cult characters from historic films, including Harry Potter, Mary Poppins, Paddington, and Singin’ in the Rain, as well as heroes like Batman and Wonder Woman.

What The Bronze Statue Depicts

The bronze statue depicts a moment from the longest-running Hindi film of all time, Aditya Chopra’s Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), with Raj & Simran in an iconic pose from the film! This moment celebrates the film’s everlasting impact on pop culture amongst South Asians worldwide.

About how he felt during the launch of the bronze statue, SRK says, “To be honest had no idea DDLJ would become this phenomenon! I’m very fortunate to have been part of cinema like this and very grateful. I think none of us, to be honest, had any idea DDLJ would become this in people’s hearts. I am sure Adi (Aditya Chopra) and all felt it would be a good film and everybody would like it, but I don’t think anyone would have ever imagined what it became and what it stands for.”

Shah Rukh & Kajol On The Significance Of DDLJ’s Statue

Regarding the significance of DDLJ’s statue in London, Shah Rukh Khan highlights, “It’s very personal for both of us (Kajol & Him) and for the Indian Film industry! The UK, London, is quite responsible for our stardom in a way because we were doing well in our country, like other actors, but I think we started doing a lot better overseas, and what was known as oversea,s principally at that time, the biggest market was the UK. It started off as a set of youngsters making DDLJ, Aditya Chopra, Karan Johar were ADs then. It was a fun trip of 30-40 days, and we made it very fast, especially in Switzerland and England … quite a free-wheeling shooting, handheld, especially here in Leicester Square, we didn’t even tell anyone we did a quick scene and got away with it. I think it’s a moment of pride for Indian Cinema and rightly so for this to happen in UK, which started off the trend of Indian film being recognised the world over.”

Kajol adds, “It’s been 30 years, and we are happy to say it’s the longest running film not only in India only in the world, and it’s actually gone into the Guinness Book of World Record,s so super kicked to be a part of it. I don’t think we planned for DDLJ to become a global phenomenon for Indians and South Asians. I think somewhere down the line that DDLJ has become kind of a touchstone for Indians living abroad.”

About how the statue will make Indians an South Asians proud not only in the UK but also across the world, Kajol says, “I think for all Indians who stay in the UK or come here, it might become a moment to go see the statue, to recognise their nostalgia for the film and there is also a familiarity and there is also a massive pull towards it. So, I’m hoping that everyone feels that touch of home when they see us here in Leicester Square.”

DDLJ tells the story of Raj and Simran, two non-resident Indians and star-crossed lovers, who fall in love during a trip across Europe and India, beginning on a train from King’s Cross station.

The Setting Of The Statue At Leicester Square

The location of the statue couldn’t be more fitting, with Leicester Square featuring in DDLJ in a scene when Raj and Simran first cross paths, albeit unbeknownst to one another, before setting off on their European adventure. Fittingly, the scene features two of the square’s cinemas prominently, with Raj seen in front of the Vue cinema, and Simran walking past the Odeon Leicester Square.

Upon its 1995 release, DDLJ quickly became a global phenomenon and a defining cultural touchstone for South Asian communities around the globe. The statue marks the 30th anniversary celebrations for the film, which continues its record-breaking cinema run in India today.

Since its release, DDLJ has become the longest-running film in Hindi cinema history, with even President Obama referencing DDLJ during an official visit to India. The film’s legacy in the UK also continued, with a new stage adaptation, Come Fall In Love – The DDLJ Musical, which ran in Manchester earlier this year.

When Vijayta Pandit said Sulakshana Pandit ‘has no idea’ about their sister Sandhya Pandit’s murder even after a decade

written by jummy84

Actor Vijayta Pandit once shared how her sister, the late Sulakshana Pandit, didn’t know about the murder of their sibling Sandhya Pandit even after a decade. Speaking with Lehren Retro, last year, Vijayta had revealed that if Sulakshana found out, she would “die that very moment.” Sandhya, also the sister of music composer duo Jatin-Lalit, went missing in 2012, and her partial skeleton was found nearly a month later.

Vijayta Pandit recently spoke about her sisters, Sulakshana Pandit and Sandhya Pandit.

Sulakshana Pandit and Vijayta Pandit’s sister was murdered

Vijayta Pandit had spoken about how they found Sandhya’s “bones scattered in different places.” She had said, “She (Sandhya) was murdered. We never thought that all of a sudden something like this could happen. She was quite happy in her marriage… I don’t know what happened. We never even found her, we found her skeleton. First her family said she has gone missing, so we used to go, me and my brothers Lalit and Jatin, to look for her everywhere. After a long time, they found her bones scattered in different places. It was a very big thing.”

When Vijayta revealed why Sulakshana didn’t know about Sandhya’s death

She had added, “And you won’t believe it, Sulakshana ji, even till today, has no idea that our sister is no more. Can you believe this? This is the first time I am saying this. I never told her because if she finds out, she will die that very moment. I keep telling her that our sister is fine, she lives in Indore, and that she calls me too. Sulakshana thinks she is alive, she asks me to send her love to our sister as she doesn’t use a mobile phone. I swear on God, I have to keep up with the act even to this day.”

More about the case

In 2021, The Indian Express reported that Sandhya’s son Raghuveer Singh was acquitted of all charges of murdering her in 2012. A Thane sessions court said that the prosecution could not establish anything except the fact that the accused was addicted to alcohol and had enmity with his mother.

About Sulakshana, her career as a singer-actor

Sulakshana died on Thursday evening after a prolonged illness, her family said. She was 71. Her last rites was performed on Friday at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Mumbai.

She is best known for crooning Bekrar Dil Tu Gaye Ja, and Somwar Ko Hum Mile Mangalwar Ko Nain with legendary Kishore Kumar. Her track Pardesiya Tere Desh Mein with music icon Mohammed Rafi was also loved by many. The duo together created several musical gems such as Sona Re Tujhe Kaise Miloon, Yeh Pyara Lage Tera Chehra, Jab Aati Hogi Yaad Meri and Yeh Pyar Kiya Hai. She also sang Saat Samundar Paar duet with legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar.

Sulakshana began her cinematic journey with the 1975 release Uljhan, where she starred opposite the legendary Sanjeev Kumar. Her other film credits include Hera Pheri (1976), Dharam Kanta (1982), Do Waqt Ki Roti (1988), and Goraa (1987), among others.

Alicia Silverstone has no idea what became of her iconic Clueless wardrobe

Alicia Silverstone no longer knows what became of the iconic wardrobe she wore as Cher Horowitz in the 1995 teen comedy Clueless.

Alicia Silverstone no longer knows what became of the iconic wardrobe she wore as Cher Horowitz in the 1995 teen comedy Clueless

The 49-year-old actress, who starred in the much-loved comedy – which became a touchstone of 1990s pop culture – alongside Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Donald Faison and the late Brittany Murphy, admitted she “stupidly” gave the clothes away years ago.

Speaking while promoting her upcoming Netflix romantic comedy A Merry Little Ex-Mas, Alicia reflected on her time making Clueless and the unforgettable preppy fashion that defined her character, telling People: “Before I did Clueless, I really was a T-shirt and jeans kind of girl.

“I wasn’t too into fashion at all.

“I ended up giving all the clothes away because I realized it was not working in my life. I gave them all away stupidly.”

The lucky recipient of Cher’s plaid skirts, matching blazers and knee-high socks, Silverstone said, was filmmaker Gia Coppola, the granddaughter of Francis Ford Coppola.

Alicia added: “Lord only knows what Gia’s done with them.

“Gia doesn’t know where they are either, so she must have given them away, too. They all just are gone.”

Alicia added she briefly tried to emulate her Clueless character’s stylish aesthetic after filming ended.

She said: “After I did (Clueless) I thought, ‘Oh, I want to have all these clothes, I’m going to wear these clothes.’ Which was a delusional idea because I was not like that girl.

“Who’s wearing Mary Janes and high stockings everywhere you go?”

Nearly 30 years after the original film’s release, Alicia is preparing to reprise her role as Cher in a new sequel series currently in development at Peacock.

Speaking during an appearance on Today in August, she said: “Not much,” when asked what she could reveal, before adding about the project: “I’m really excited about it. I think we’re going to try really hard.”

She added: “The goal is to make it honour what everyone loves about Clueless and Cher. So we want to honour that, but also bring something fresh and new to it. I’m confident that we’ll be able to do that, but we’re in baby stages right now.”

The sequel series was officially announced in April when Silverstone shared a post on Instagram featuring clips and GIFs from the original movie.

She wrote alongside a screenshot of Variety’s report confirming the project: “Totally buggin’… in the best way,”

Amber Mark: Pretty Idea Album Review

Amber Mark: Pretty Idea Album Review

by jummy84 October 15, 2025
written by jummy84

The album is loosely structured as a wayward path to self-acceptance. Mark begins with poise, vowing on “By the End of the Night” to rebound on the dancefloor. She’s quickly swooning, swathing a new paramour in her perfume on the buoyant “ooo” and going “weak in the knees” on the sprung “Sweet Serotonin.” “Too Much” features a nifty interpolation of Usher’s “My Boo” as she second-guesses her enthusiasm. “Is it too much if I’m thinking about you daily?” she sings coyly, more to herself than her crush. By the album’s end, she’s removed enough from the doomed relationship to consider her own role in its demise. “Your touch when I’m coming home/It’s a pretty idea, a pretty idea,” she croons on the title track. “Who’s the one that did you wrong?/Maybe I did, maybe I did.”

Mark doesn’t really tell stories in her songs; she lives the turmoil, her lithe vocals tracing the flutters of the heart. Survival anthem “Problems” showcases her range, her voice variously a coo, a wail, and a feathery prayer as she tries to will away stress. Folk ballad “Cherry Reds” clings to a warm memory like an heirloom: “Smoking Cherry Reds/In the trees,” Mark trills in her smooth upper register, stretching the last word into four wounded syllables. She’s just as pained on “Let Me Love You,” where her background vocals become increasingly distressed. The sticky hook—“Why won’t you let me love you?”—is an exclamation by the song’s end.

The open spaces and pained harmonies of quiet storm are the go-to style for R&B singers working through such dark nights of the soul, but that’s one tradition Pretty Idea breaks from. The core producers—Mark, One Direction songwriters Julian Bunetta and John Ryan, and duo Two Fresh—supply a dense, full-band sound. The arrangements are shimmery and lush, every little crevice filled with (at minimum) keys, synths, rhythm guitar, and background vocals. It’s as if they’ve spackled all the negative space that defined Three Dimensions Deep. When the drums drop out on “Sweet Serotonin” and “Too Much,” finger snaps reminiscent of the days when T-Pain and The-Dream ran urban radio subtly keep the meter. And on duet “Different Places,” which channels the warped funk of For All We Know, guitar melodies swell and recede as Mark and John Ryan trade woes. “You and I/Have we fallen out of love yet?/Doing all these circles/Round around the subject,” Mark sings. These songs are retro, but they’re not stagnant.

That’s a hard balance to strike. The past goes for cheap, in spirit if not actual cost (chill, JNCO). What if all the best things have already happened? What if all the sweet serotonin your brain struggles to produce because you’re too pumped full of dread and cortisol could be solved by Alien:Earth or Supreme Clientele 2 or Toy Story 5? Pretty Idea is an album about boys, of course. But I admire its regular relationship to the past. Mark presents R&B’s archives not as sacred texts or exotic loot but as context, precedent, pearls from grandma’s attic that can look nice if you style them just so. This customization is what pushes her music past pastiche. Mark’s boys are all hers.

Eugene Levy Hasn’t Heard Dan’s ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Reboot Idea

by jummy84 September 21, 2025
written by jummy84

Although Eugene Levy has been keeping busy abroad as The Reluctant Traveler, he’s always ready to revisit Schitt’s Creek.

Despite his son and co-creator/co-star Dan Levy previously revealing he has a “kernel of an idea” for a new iteration of their beloved Canadian sitcom, the Golden Globe-nominated father apparently has yet to hear it.

“If he said he had a kernel of an idea for a reboot, he didn’t lay it on me. I don’t know what he necessarily comes up with, I don’t have Instagram,” he quipped on Today‘s ‘Girl Code‘.

“Listen, we’ve always said we would love—obviously, we love this group, we love the cast, we love the show, and we would love to get together and do something,” added Eugene. “It’s just, no idea has come up. Nobody has come up with the idea yet. And whatever it is, it has to start kind of on the level where we left off. Otherwise, there’s no point.”

Commenting on the potential of a Schitt’s Creek movie, Eugene said, “Wow, that’s a good prediction. I kind of like that. That gets me excited. Never say never.”

‘Schitt’s Creek’

Netflix

With fans clamoring for a Schitt’s Creek revival ever since its six-season run ended in 2020, Dan teased his “kernel of an idea” for the reboot on Watch What Happens Live in July.

“I think about it all the time,” said Dan, adding, “I love the show so much, and I don’t want to disappoint the show and I don’t want to disappoint the fans. And I know it’s easy to just take a check and put something out there, but I care about it too much. I’m just waiting for that idea to be the right one. And then maybe, yeah.”

Following the show’s 2020 finale, the show earned Eugene and Dan an Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series, as well as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Eugene and Outstanding Supporting Actor for Dan, who also won in the writing and directing categories for the final season.

Could Task and Mare of Easttown Collide? Creator Says ‘Love the Idea’

by jummy84 September 8, 2025
written by jummy84

We’ve now entered crime-drama fall.

The new HBO series Task, starring Mark Ruffalo and Tom Pelphrey, is set to debut on Sunday night, and its creator, Brad Ingelsby, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter at the recent premiere in NYC about why he wanted to tell the story of Task after the success of Mare of Easttown, which both explore similar themes of grief, generational trauma and are based in the same setting: Delaware County, Pennsylvania. He also muses over the idea of both worlds colliding.

“I think there were still more stories to be told about people in Delaware County,” Ingelsby said. “They exist in the same world, so it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if Mare (played by Kate Winslet) walked into a Wawa that Tom (played by Ruffalo) was in. I don’t have a story in mind that’s a crossover, but I love the idea of their worlds intersecting.”

Pelphrey responds to the idea of a potential crossover of universes, “Welcome to the new MCU,” he laughed before adding, “That would be amazing. I was a huge fan of Mare of Easttown. And obviously, I’m a big fan of Task. So, if there’s a version where those things crossover, I think that would make a lot of people very happy.”

Mare of Easttown followed Winslet’s Mare Sheehan, a detective who investigates a murder while dealing with her own struggles. Task sees Tom Brandis (Ruffalo), a former priest-turned-FBI agent, assigned to a Task Force to stop a string of robberies run by family man Robbie Prendergrast (Pelphrey).

To play an FBI Agent, again, Ruffalo told THR about his preparation. “I had a lot of support,” he said. “So much of it was what [Tom’s] dealing with personally. But I also had just the most incredible technical advisor, Scott Duffy, who is an FBI agent, but also trains FBI agents, and he was with us every single day, and I would run over to him, and we were constantly like, ‘How do we get a deeper cut on us? How do we make it this character’s version of being an FBI agent? How do we make it interesting to people?’”

As Ruffalo and Pelphrey’s raw performances lead the show, Ingelsby explains why they were both the right people for their respective roles.

“I think Mark Ruffalo, as a person, has many of the admirable qualities of Tom as a character, and those are compassion, empathy, always looking to find the good in people and incredibly humble. When you start to list the qualities that Tom Brandis has, he’s in the seminary; he’s from the northeast; he’s a father; he’s a theologian — you have a list of perfect actors that is really small and Mark is at the top of that list,” Ingelsby said. “And Pelphrey, he auditioned for us, as soon as I heard him laugh, I thought, ‘What an infectious, incredible laugh. He has the physicality to play Robbie.’ He also has the humanity to be a father, to care for his kids and he’s really sensational.”

Since the show has already received rave reviews from critics, there’s buzz about a second season, but Ingelsby plays it coy, telling THR, “As long as audiences have an interest in this season, I’ll continue to write them.”

Task premieres on HBO Max at 9:00 p.m., with new episodes dropping weekly.

Ileana D’Cruz opens up about her initial breastfeeding struggles: ‘No idea it was going to be as intensely painful’ | Health

by jummy84 September 1, 2025
written by jummy84

Ileana D’Cruz is married to Michael Dolan and is the mother of two sons. Their first child, Koa Phoenix Dolan, was born on August 1, 2023. On June 19 2025, they welcomed their second son, Keanu Rafe Dolan. They are living in Houston, Texas. With motherhood taking up centre stage for Illeana, she shared her experience.

In a candid conversation about all things motherhood, on an Instagram Live on August 30 for Live for Freedom To Feed, Ileana D’Cruz shared with actor Neha Dhupia about how she is navigating parenting. She talked about one of the first essentials of early motherhood, which is breastfeeding, and how the journey was, including any initial inhibitions.

First reaction

Before stepping into motherhood, especially around the time before the delivery, many often turn to their close friends for guidance, what to expect. Illeana did the same, gathering details of what to expect so she could prepare.

She said, “She did tell me, you know, breastfeeding is really intense. It can be really painful, but she’s like, it’s the most beautiful thing as well. And she was absolutely right. She’s like, it was definitely painful initially. And then, you know, you have the other complications that come with breastfeeding… I had no idea it was going to be as intensely painful as it was.” The initial reaction was a bit overwhelming, wondering about the possible complications and how the process of breastfeeding can be painful.

But Illeana also acknowledged how breastfeeding is a privilege. She continued, “But it is such a, I don’t know, maybe privilege is the right word. It’s such a privilege to be able to feed your child, and the connection that you can have with your baby is really lovely.” Breastfeeding allows a mother to bond and connect with the child in a special way.

Illeana’s experience with breastfeeding

The actor further recalled her first experience with breastfeeding, when she was very stressed. As a new mother navigating those first moments, Ileana remembered feeling judged by a lactation consultant at the hospital.

“At the hospital, we were told, you know, ‘Would you like a lactation consultant to come and speak with you’? So I was like, ‘Yeah, of course, you know, I’d love to have an expert come and talk to me’. And I just felt so much judgment from this woman. She was like, the first question, she’s like, ‘Do you plan to breastfeed? Are you going to be formula feeding as well’? And I’m like, ‘Well, I plan to breastfeed only, but you know, you don’t know what’s going to happen’… I’m like, every woman has her own journey. Every mother has her own journey with her child, and you know, what’s best for your kid, instinctively, ” she shared.

There was a lot of contradictory information from everyone around, which confused the actor initially, as everyone had their two cents. Illeana shared another personal experience where someone at the hospital told her not to pump milk for six weeks, while her doctor recommended it earlier due to inflammation. Looking back, Illeana remembered that she was worried a lot, “I think I was so worried. It’s very, very painful. So like I had a fever and everything was really bad.” Especially for the first time around, she admitted to depending on the lactation expert, fearing that any mistake would harm the baby’s health. But as time went on, she learnt how to trust her instincts.
