Iconic ’90s confirmed for “extraordinary” revival on Prime Video

by jummy84 November 19, 2025
written by jummy84

Iconic sci-fi franchise Stargate is officially returning to screens, with an “extraordinary” revival series coming to Prime Video.

A new series based on the franchise, which was first brought to life in the 1994 movie, has been greenlit by Amazon MGM Studios.

The Stargate franchise centres on the titular device, which is able to create a stable wormhole and allows near-instantaneous travel around the cosmos.

The new series is being developed by Stargate veteran, Martin Gero, who will serve as creator, writer, executive producer and showrunner.

He said: “Twenty years ago, my first real job in television was as a Story Editor on Stargate: Atlantis.

“I spent five years at the franchise working across all three series, Stargate taught me everything about making television – it’s written into my DNA.”

He added: “I’m beyond thrilled that Amazon MGM Studios has entrusted me with guiding this incredible franchise into its next phase.

“For those who’ve kept the gate active through conventions, rewatches, and unwavering faith — this one’s for you. And for those that are new to our world – I promise you’re in for something extraordinary.”

In what’s sure to be good news for die-hard fans, Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich, who were behind the 1994 Stargate movie, are on board as executive producers. Brad Wright and Joe Mallozzi will also serve as consulting producers.

For fans wanting to catch up in the meantime, you’ll first need to watch the original Stargate movie, followed by the TV series Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, and Stargate Universe.

The cosmos awaits!

Shirley Henderson reveals her secrets behind her iconic roles

Shirley Henderson reveals her secrets behind her iconic roles

by jummy84 November 11, 2025
written by jummy84

This article first appeared in Radio Times magazine.

In Summerwater, adapted from Sarah Moss’s novel about the British capacity for both cruelty and compassion, Shirley Henderson plays Annie Campbell, a visitor to the lochside holiday cabins that give this tense thriller its title. Geographically, Summerwater is situated in the Highlands; psychologically, it feels a stone’s throw from The Shining’s Overlook Hotel. Henderson doesn’t want to say too much about Annie for fear of spoiling the drama, which she describes as “an investigation of relationships, of memory and of longing”, but she will say that “something’s happening, something’s changing for her, and parts of her are leaving her”.

Locked in a fraught marriage to Dougray Scott’s brittle Dr David Campbell, it may be Annie’s life that leaves her before the series’ end. In episode two, the pair take an ill-advised clifftop walk, during which the good doctor is clearly thinking bad thoughts, though Annie is breezily oblivious — or seems so. Like many of the characters Henderson has played, Annie has hinterland. When I first interviewed Henderson 21 years ago, she told me “it’s fun being messy or angry or disturbed,” and her CV is populated with such characters. But there are plenty of others, too…

‘I’d never filmed before’ – Elizabeth Findlay, Shadow of the Stone – STV (1987)

Children’s TV drama about a young girl and her 17th-century alter ego, who is accused of being a witch.

“This was my first job. I got the part after Leonard White — who was a lovely man — from Scottish Television saw me in my last play at drama school. I stayed at my auntie’s, got the bus into Glasgow, walked up to the STV studios, got changed and went to work — and then did the reverse at the end of the day. It was Monday to Friday and we always finished around five o’clock. No job has ever been as civilised. I’d never done any filming before and I didn’t know any filming techniques so Leonard, who directed it, was teaching me at the same time. The script was set, too, so you could learn your lines — and I was young, so learning lines was much easier than it is now. I remember working with a wee lizard and Alan Cumming played my boyfriend.”

‘I was shy and didn’t want to mess up’ – Isobel Sutherland, Hamish Macbeth – BBC One (1995-97)

Robert Carlyle and Shirley Henderson pictured together at the press launch of the new season of the BBC drama series Hamish Macbeth in March 1996. Larry Ellis Collection/Getty Images

Drama starring Robert Carlyle as the eponymous crime-solving PC.

“It was idyllic filming in Plockton every summer for three years, but there wasn’t a lot to do. We loved it when the wee fish and chip shop opened. We’d treat ourselves to a fish supper and gather in a caravan to listen as Ralph Riach and Brian Pettifer [who played “TV” John and Rory] told stories. “In the first series, we were filming a long shot and just before the camera got to me, the donkey I was looking after stood on my foot. It was agony! Today, I’d say, ‘Stop! The donkey’s on my foot!’ but I was shy and I didn’t want to mess it up. “I learned so much on that job. People would say they’d seen me on Hamish Macbeth. As time passes, you get recognised but I’ve never had ‘celebrity’; I don’t know what it is.”

‘I didn’t know who Harry Potter was’ – Moaning Myrtle, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) & Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)

The JK Rowling juggernaut that entranced a generation and made stars of its cast.

“When I was first asked for an audition, I didn’t know who Harry Potter was. But my sister, who was staying with me, had read the books. Still, I wasn’t convinced I could play a 14-year-old girl because I was in my 30s at the time. But I spoke to the casting director Karen Lindsay-Stewart and she said, ‘I haven’t told them your age’.

“So I went to the audition dressed as a schoolgirl — white shirt, black skirt, ponytail — thinking, ‘This is ridiculous’. I did my wee bit for them and they thanked me. Months went by and I thought that was it, but then they phoned my agent, asked to see me again and offered me the part.

“Myrtle is an old person in a young person’s body and because she’s ghosty, there’s a kind of mistiness. You’re not looking closely at my face so we could get away with it.”

‘In the end, you don’t think about acting, you let it happen’ – Marie Melmotte, The Way We Live Now – BBC One (2001)

Andrew Davies’s adaptation of Anthony Trollope’s novel.

“With work like this, it’s often in language which is alien. When you first put on the costumes, which confine you, you’re like, ‘I can’t do it with all this stuff on me’. But then you relax into it, your body adapts and actually releases oils that make the costume too big. So you get it taken in and think, ‘I need all this stuff’, because it’s part of the character. In the end, you don’t even think about the scene, you just do it. And then you don’t even do that, you just let the scene happen.”

‘I auditioned hunched down on the floor’ – Babu Frik, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

In a galaxy far, far away, it’s Empire versus Republic round two.

“It being Star Wars, they ask you if you want to audition, but don’t tell you anything else — nothing. I was like, ‘You have to give me something so I can prepare,’ and eventually they said, ‘Maybe very small, maybe very old, maybe from somewhere else’.

“So I went to the audition with [director] JJ Abrams, who is the sweetest man, and Nina Gold (who cast me in Topsy-Turvy), had a lovely chat and then I did my bit. I hunched down on the floor and did this voice I had come up with in a language I had made up. He said, ‘You’ve got the job,’ and they brought in a model of Babu Frik.

“It’s voice acting but not in the sense that you voice it later. I was there, on set, crammed into a cupboard on the floor trying to see what the puppeteers were doing with Babu’s mouth to improvise in the made-up language. An amazing job.”

‘Sometimes I wonder if I dreamt it’ – Ursula Blake, Doctor Who: Love and Monsters – BBC One (2006)

Adventures in time and space.

“When I was young, I’d either go out and play when Doctor Who was on, or hide behind the sofa. As an adult, I’d been watching David Tennant and Billie Piper, so when I was offered it — I didn’t have to audition — I jumped right in. We were forever being told to behave because Peter Kay, who I’d worked with on 24 Hour Party People, was making us laugh. Marc Warren was doing magic tricks — there was one that I still can’t get my head around, involving books. Sometimes I do wonder, ‘Did I dream it, or did it actually happen?'”

Dr Seuss's The Grinch makes iconic return to TV for sparkly new Christmas advert

Dr Seuss’s The Grinch makes iconic return to TV for sparkly new Christmas advert

by jummy84 November 3, 2025
written by jummy84

With Halloween now in the rear view mirror, the countdown to Christmas is on – and we’re already seeing the first batch of festive adverts appearing on TV.

Asda’s 2025 offering launched over the weekend and sees one of the most iconic Christmas characters of all time make a return to the screen: The Grinch.

In the advert, the Yuletide-hating character is seen accompanied by two children for a Christmas shopping trip, but true to form, he doesn’t appear to be enjoying the experience – singing a humorous song to the tone of festive staple Let it Snow.

“Oh the prices this year are frightful, spenny gifts I’ve seen a sight full,” he sings. “We’re getting quite low on dough, it’s a no, it’s a no, it’s a no.”

However, he soon sees a bright and shiny Asda sign in the distance, which makes him think twice about his previous negativity – especially impressed by the fact that it matches his green colour.

Pushing a shopping trolley through the aisles, he then sings: “Oh the worries show signs of stopping. Wait – am I enjoying shopping? With prices rolled back down low, here we go, here we go, here we go.”

With his trolley full of festive foods and Christmas crackers – and his mood now bordering on euphoric – The Grinch continues: “When we get it all home tonight, oh it’s all going to go down a treat. And to you lot who called me tight, look what we’ve brought you to eat!”

One final verse sees him hosting a party in his house, complete with gift-giving, a roast turkey and all sorts of other festive fun – you can watch the spot in full below:

The advert coincides with the 25th anniversary of the live-action film adaptation of Dr Seuss’s iconic kids book, which famously saw Jim Carrey take on the title character.

It was first shown on the supermarket’s social channels on Saturday 1st November, before a shorter 60 second version aired on TV for the first time on ITV 1 at 8.30pm during an ad break for the 1% Club.

And we can probably expect to see it on screen an awful lot more in the next couple of months!

“We’re so excited to launch this year’s Christmas campaign,” Asda’s Chief Customer Officer Rachel Eyre said in a statement. “We all love Christmas, but we also know it can come with financial pressures. That’s why this year, we’re focused on helping everyone enjoy the festive season we all deserve, filled with joy, celebration, and the reassurance of Asda Price.

“If we can win over the Grinch, the biggest cynic of all, then we know that with our unmatchable mix – amazing products at unbeatable value – we can all have a truly fabulous Christmas together at Asda.”

Exclusive: Shah Rukh Khan Revisits His Iconic Scenes From Devdas to Kal Ho Naa Ho

by jummy84 November 2, 2025
written by jummy84

Shah Rukh Khan is not just an actor but someone who understands the language of cinema. He breathes live into every frame he is in, turning moments into memories. That’s why his performances are remembered across generations. During an old conversation with Filmfare, the actor spoke to us about some of the scenes he liked doing and decoded them.

Talking about his favourite scene in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas, he said, “When I go home for my dad’s funeral, I tell my mother “Achche aadmi the woh…” It is one of my favourite scenes.” He starred with Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Jackie Shroff in this film.

About Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, SRK said, “When I come running to the summer school and see Kajol for the first time after so many years and I say, ‘Sari!’ As an actor I really enjoyed doing that scene.
In Baazigar, he shared the screen with Shilpa Shetty and Kajol. Talking about his favourite scene, SRK said, “When I say sorry to Shilpa before throwing her off the terrace. In my head the word ‘sorry’ meant ‘I love you a lot’.

About his iconic love story Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, he expressed, “At the station when Kajol invited me for her wedding and I say, ‘Nahin, mein nahin aaunga.’

Shah Rukh Khan also spoke about his film Swades, which is considered one of his career best. He continued, “Whe the kid sells me water in a kulhar at the station and then runs to give me my change. I was moved even while doing it.”Shah Rukh Khan films

He concluded with Kal Ho Naa Ho and said his favourite scene was, “When I tell Preeti how she should learn to smile and show her how with a ‘Hee hee.’ The timing was just right.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 Turns 1: Recalling Vidya Balan’s Manjulika Who Made Fear Iconic

by jummy84 November 2, 2025
written by jummy84

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 released on November 1, 2025. Audiences cheered not just for the grand scale or Rooh Baba’s return but for Vidya Balan as stepped back into the world she once helped create. In other words, the original Manjulika was home again.

Vidya Balan’s role in the first Bhool Bhulaiyaa is unforgettable. In the 2007 movie, she redefined what it meant to play possessed on screen. As Manjulika, she played a layered, tragic and hypnotic character. Vidya infused her with grace and intensity and turned what could have been a genre character into one of Hindi cinema’s most memorable women.

Eighteen years later, her return in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 reminded everyone that the franchise was missing Vidya’s antics as an actor. In Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, her screen presence commanded both reverence and fear. Our reviewer noted, “Both Vidya and Madhuri are consummate actresses and clearly enjoy their roles in this horror comedy. They each have a scary scene and make the most of it. The computerised de-ageing effects applied to them are subtle and do not diminish their aura one bit.”

Her appearance in BB3 was appreciated by fans. Whether whispering “Aami Je Tomar” or walking through the dimly lit corridors with that familiar half-smile, Vidya reminded the audience what she is capable of as an artiste.

As an actor, Vidya Balan has always stood for strong and authentic characters. Interestingly, she loves playing roles with conviction, courage and complexity. From Kahaani to The Dirty Picture and now Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, she continues to choose roles that challenge both her and the audience. Her Manjulika is a reminder that female characters can be haunting yet humane, terrifying yet tender.

Vidya Balan

As Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 celebrates its first anniversary, one truth echoes louder than ever, franchises may evolve, stories may shift, but the legend of Manjulika will forever belong to Vidya Balan.

Rihanna Just Wore This Iconic Winter 2025 Boot Trend

by jummy84 October 31, 2025
written by jummy84

This winter, I’m channeling my inner Rihanna and taking just as many risks with my personal style. That said, I tend to be a uniform dresser, so my winter moodboard is starting to look drastically different than what’s in my current closet, but I’m going to make it work. If there’s one thing about style icon Rih, it’s that she always has an interesting shoe to make her outfits pop. Her recent outfit in Los Angeles wasn’t an exception.

She wore a simple olive green button-down dress, accessorized with a pair of sunglasses and snakeskin knee-high boots by Anima Muaddi. She’s an avid wearer of the brand, having been spotted in various pairs, namely the popular clear heels. Her looks never cease to amaze me. She turned a simple dress into a look just by adding these winter-friendly boots to her outfit. I already had a sneaking suspicion that snakeskin boots would be the It shoe for fall and winter, and Rihanna wearing the winter shoe trend just confirmed it.

If you’re on the hunt for a pair of boots that will actually make you look as cool as Rihanna, keep scrolling through to recreate this look and shop similar snakeskin boots.
