The Internet Is OBSESSED With Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai – What’s Behind The Hype?! | Glamsham.com

Alia Bhatt’s powerhouse performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi won her widespread acclaim, multiple awards, and solidified her place as one of Bollywood’s most versatile actors. However, not everyone seems convinced. A recent Reddit thread has sparked a heated debate over whether Alia truly captured the essence of the real-life Kamathipura matriarch or if her portrayal was, as some users claim, “overrated.”

The discussion began when a user questioned if Bhatt’s youthful looks and soft demeanor made her a believable fit for the fierce, commanding figure of Gangubai Kothewali, the powerful brothel madam and social reformer from Mumbai’s red-light district. “Alia looks like a kid playing dress-up in an older woman’s world,” one commenter wrote. “Her baby-faced innocence makes it hard to believe she could command fear or authority.”

Others echoed the sentiment, suggesting that while the Raazi star excelled in emotional scenes, she lacked the physical presence and gravitas the role required. “It’s not just about looks,” one Redditor argued. “She simply doesn’t have the weight to convince us she’s ruling a male-dominated criminal underworld.” Critics on the thread pointed out that Bhatt’s real-life age and gentle persona may have worked against her in fully embodying a hardened woman who fought against patriarchy and political corruption in mid-20th century Mumbai.

Yet, Bhatt’s supporters quickly came to her defense, calling the backlash unfair and highlighting the nuance in her performance. Many praised how she balanced vulnerability and power, crediting Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s direction for helping her deliver one of her most mature roles yet. “Alia completely transformed into Gangubai,” one fan wrote. “Her confidence, her dialogue delivery, and her emotional range were phenomenal. You can’t take your eyes off her.”

The viral thread has since reignited the age-old debate about authentic casting and artistic interpretation in biographical films. Should actors physically resemble the real-life figures they portray, or should performance alone determine success?

Stuck between the online divide or not, Gangubai Kathiawadi will remain a defining moment in the career of Alia Bhatt. The film won her not just the National Film Award for Best Actress but also solidified her as among the few contemporary stars capable of carrying a big-budget female-led film to both critical and commercial success

Adidas’s Lace-Up Ballerina Sneaker Is Finally Back in Stock, and We Can Confirm It’s Worth the Hype

I had a nightmare the other day that Adidas didn’t exist, and everyone dressed far less cool and had very little sneaker game. When I finally woke up, I realized just how good we have it. Case in point: The Taekwondo Mei. These lace-up ballerina sneakers are so cute, and clearly I’m not the only one who thinks so. They’re always sold out, and after many missed restock alerts, I finally got my hands on a pair. I can confirm they’re just as cool as I thought they’d be, and you don’t want to miss them—they’re currently in-stock now in the prettiest pink shade.

The ballet sneaker trend has been a long time in the making, and it’s not as “trendy” as you’d might expect. If a ballet flat and a slim sneaker had a baby you’d get the “sneakerina.” It’s a quirky, yet surprisingly pared-back style—the slim shape of the shoe feels minimalist, where the option for bold colors or high-laces adds some flair.

The fashion crowd’s obsession with sneakers has ramped up over the past few years (thank you, Adidas!), and with balletcore in the zeitgeist, it was only a matter of time before this early-aughts sneaker came back around. They started to pop up at our favorite retailers last summer, and now they’ve fully gone mainstream.

Introduced in the 2000s, Adidas’s Taekwondo Mei was designed for those competing in Taekwondo, hence the name. They have a stunning suede exterior and come in a handful of colors, including baby blue, true ballerina pink, and black. The rubber soles provide a bit more traction than ballet flats would, and the strappy laces can be wrapped around your ankles in the prettiest way. The best part? They come with a pair of satin ribbon laces (aww!).

As someone who leans more towards Adidas’s minimalist silhouettes, I was shocked by how seamlessly these fit in with the rest of my wardrobe. I grabbed the baby blue pair and have been styling them with my favorite everyday outfits like jeans and a white t-shirt and sporty shorts and a tank top. I also tried them out with a similarly colored blue dress, and even with more feminine styles, you’d never guess they were sneakers. I love how they elevate every outfit to look more intentional and cool.

Don’t wait any longer to grab a pair. Shop the Taekwondo Mei sneakers (and some of our other favorite Adidas styles) below.

fakemink Deserves the Hype | Pitchfork

The hype is in overdrive, so much so that people are declaring he’s lost his soul and calling him an industry plant. He’s at the forefront of the British scene—alongside upstarts like Fimiguerrero, Jim Legxacy, YT, and Len—but also quickly surpassing it, primed for global crossover. How did we get here, and is this 20-year-old Drake and Dean Blunt diehard worth the fanfare?

In the early days, before he was fakemink, he was 9090gate. He smoked weed and recorded music from a bedroom crammed with knickknacks and guarded by blackout curtains. He filmed Instagram Lives, including one where he got hit by a car. Over the last couple of years, he has slowly developed a style he calls “dirty luxury”: think food stains on a $10,000 t-shirt. It’s not a super original concept—opulent grime has been the ethos of countless MCs from Rocky to Lone. He wants to give it a fresh spin with his own production and beats from some of the most exciting oddballs in the underground, like deer park, cranes, Yurkiez, mag, and reklus1ve. “Bambi,” produced by prblm, conjures up a drunken walk home at 3 a.m. with rain drizzling lightly over your head. Others like “Bite My Lip” and “Crush” have a deliciously decayed shimmer that makes them feel like 2000s prom hits from an alternate dimension. fakemink’s one of a few in this corner of the underground who writes out lyrics ahead of time instead of punching in fragmented bursts. As a result, his vocals have a kind of stately yet starry-eyed quality, giving structure to these deformed, cosmic beats from the internet abyss. It reminds me of the way Takeoff’s unvarnished tone anchored his Migos partners’ Auto-Tuned warbles.
