BAFTA Breakthrough Ellis Howard on ‘What It Feels Like for a Girl’

by jummy84 November 25, 2025
written by jummy84

A queer teen grappling with their gender identity is at the center of What It Feels Like for a Girl, the BBC drama telling a party- and drug-fueled trans coming-of-age story based on the memoir of journalist Paris Lees. The show’s breakout star is Ellis Howard, a rising talent from Liverpool.

For those who don’t recognize the accent: that is the same city that Adolescence and A Thousand Blows star Stephen Graham is from, and the city that BBC drama crime epic This City Is Ours, starring Sean Bean, is set in.

Writer and actor Howard has turned heads with his performance in What It Feels Like for a Girl, and now Howard is on the U.K. 2025 BAFTA Breakthrough list of rising talent, supported by Netflix, which was unveiled on Tuesday.

Born and raised in Liverpool, actor and writer Ellis Howard trained at The Guildhall School and has since starred in major productions across stage and screen, including the 2022 BBC horror series Red Rose and his West End debut as Dill in Aaron Sorkin’s To Kill a Mockingbird.

What It Feels Like for a Girl has made him more widely recognized. The show, produced by Hera Pictures and directed by Brian Welsh, co-stars Hannah Walters and Laura Haddock.

THR talked to Howard about making a splash, making the BAFTA Breakthrough list, and what’s next.

How exciting is it for you to be part of the newest BAFTA Breakthrough group?

So exciting! I feel BAFTA is such an incredible institution at the very heart of our culture. And to be recognized and to be supported by them is just such an honor, and it’s so gratifying. I feel so proud of What It Feels Like for a Girl, my breakthrough project. It was a tiny BBC Three show. And now that it is getting the stamp of approval from BAFTA, I’m like, “God, this feels mad.”

You’re playing Byron, who is multi-dimensional and goes on an emotional ride. How did you get into that character?

It was a ride, also because those parts are often reserved for people who are incredibly famous. And so I thought, “Whoa, I get to this point in my career, and I go on this odyssey,” which is written by Paris Lees. And I felt this tremendous responsibility, but also this opportunity, to come at this role with all of my trauma and triumph and mess.

I think if there was ever a role to let yourself be uninhibited and go at it with as much pomp and panache as possible, [this is it]. The day I got it, I was terrified. Two seconds later, I was like: “This is it! This is a journey.” But it’s, honestly, a journey that I’ve relished, and it has also got me so, so excited for what is next. It has invigorated my sensibility and my appetite to take risks and to do parts that scare me.

Do you have any plans or hopes for the BAFTA Breakthrough program?

Yes, I want to really just meet like-minded creatives. What was so incredible about What It Feels Like for a Girl was that this was someone’s passion project. Paris Lees is an auteur. She has this unrelenting and working-class voice in the arts, which feels so rarefied. And I want to meet more exciting writers and filmmakers.

The second part is that, I hope, with the support from BAFTA, I now get access to doors that would have otherwise not been opened, and maybe more people will watch What It Feels Like for a Girl. I’m a working-class boy from Liverpool, and so I need all of the accreditation and help that I can get for people to take me and my work and my voice seriously, whether that be as a writer or as an actor. And so I’m really just excited to get this process started.

Tell me a bit about the themes of What It Feels Like for a Girl and themes that you want to explore more in your career…

What What It Feels Like for a Girl did so incredibly well was look at both queerness and class and the intersection of those two things. Queerness and class are incredibly important to me.

But even though I am a working-class gay lad, I also want the opportunity to transform. I want to be in those period pieces. I want to know what it feels like to run a kingdom. It would also be totally exciting to take some of those middle-class parts. What does the version of me look like in a suit? Some of my favorite shows, like Industry and Succession, are about the hot breath of ambition on your neck, and they have incredibly smart players. Those characters are complex and ruthless, and I’m like, God, I really want to get my teeth into parts like that.

Anything else you’d like to share?

Yes. What It Feels Like for a Girl does not have U.S. distribution. We’ve got to get it out in the U.S. We need this anarchic, punk queer show over in the States just to ruffle some feathers, and to give them a slice of British life.

The TikTok couple—who are known for documenting their family life on the platform—revealed that they lost their third baby, a little girl, at 17 weeks.

“It is with very heavy hearts that we share about the loss of our baby girl born far too soon,” the duo wrote on their Sept. 28 Instagram post, which featured a photo of them holding hands while in the hospital. “At a routine pregnancy appointment, our doctor could not find a heartbeat. Shortly after, they sent us in for an ultrasound where the technician said words we will never forget, ‘I am so sorry, I do not have good news.’”

Ayesha Howard Alleges Fraud In Ongoing Case

by jummy84 September 29, 2025
written by jummy84

Ayesha Howard’s legal team is working overtime amid her ongoing child support case with Anthony Edwards. Recently, a California judge granted Edwards’ motion to toss the summons after he claimed to have no real ties to the state. But in exclusive court documents obtained by The Shade Room, Edwards allegedly downplayed the business and financial ties that link him to California.

Ayesha Howard’s Legal Team Says Anthony Edwards Misled The Court

In new court docs, Anthony Edwards insists his only connection to California comes from the occasional NBA games he plays there with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He told the court he never lived in the state, owns no businesses, entities, or properties. But Ayesha Howard’s legal team says Edwards runs several businesses registered and trademarked in Beverly Hills.

“Anthony Edwards also maintains financial accounts in California and has designated business agents who operates from a Beverly Hills office. These are exactly the types of substantial and continuous contacts with California that Mr. Edwards swore under penalty of perjury that he did not have,” Ayesha Howard’s legal team said in a statement.

Additionally, Howard’s team believes that Edwards attempt to mislead the court was an effort to “manipulate the judicial system” and “avoid accountability in child support.”

Here’s What Previously Went Down Between Howard & Edwards

Before Ayesha accused Anthony of fraud, he asked to seal their child support case. On April 2, In Touch Weekly reported that Edwards filed a motion asking a Georgia judge to keep the proceedings private. He claimed harassment and malicious speculation have interfered with his focus on his career. Edwards said the case involves sensitive child support matters concerning a minor and two high-profile individuals, so he wants the case closed to the public.

Ayesha didn’t hesistate to respond to Anthony’s request. She argued that the case has been public for at least six months, and she hasn’t seen any harm come from that access. She also said she believes Anthony’s motivation for asking to seal the case isn’t valid and insisted it doesn’t justify blocking public access.

More Details On Ayesha & Anthony’s Child Support Case

Ayesha Howard welcomed her second child, Aubri Summers Howard, on October 14, 2024, TSR reported. In December, a paternity test confirmed Anthony Edwards as the baby’s biological father. Then in February, Edwards reportedly told the court he didn’t want custody of the child and believed issues could only be resolved financially.

By April, rumors started to circulate that Edwards allegedly offered to pay 18 years of child for Aubri, but Ayesha quickly shut down the claims. In an exclusive chat with TSR’s Social Media Manager Brianne Deville, she made it clear she hasn’t received any money or agreed to any arrangements.

“There are no court documents, motions, or proceedings that have occurred, nor have I been offered or agreed to such terms,” Ayesha explained.

Watch Rosé blend Lana Del Rey and Paul Simon tracks in medley on ‘The Howard Stern Show’

BLACKPINK‘s Rosé blended covers of Lana Del Rey and Paul Simon tracks while on The Howard Stern Show – check it out below.

  • READ MORE: Rosé and Bruno Mars’ ‘APT.’ is an addictively flirty and fun intro to the BLACKPINK star’s solo era

As well as her own hit single, the Bruno Mars-assisted ‘APT.’, the New Zealand artist also combined Lana Del Rey‘s ‘Norman Fucking Rockwell’ with Paul Simon‘s ‘50 Ways to Leave Your Lover’ during her stop on the show.

The full footage of her appearance was shared on YouTube on Friday (September 26), with the ’50 Ways to Leave Your Norman’ medley seeing Rosé alter Del Rey’s track slightly so its lyrics were less explicit.

“You talk to the walls when the party gets bored of you/But I don’t get bored, I just see it through/Why wait for the best when I could have you?” she sang, before transitioning into Simon’s 1975 track.

“You just slip out the back, Jack/Make a new plan, Stan/You don’t need to be coy, Roy/Just get yourself free,” Rosé sings in the clip. “Hop on the bus, Gus/You don’t need to discuss much/Just drop off the key, Lee/And get yourself free.”

Earlier this month, the K-pop star and BLACKPINK member hit yet another landmark achievement, with ‘APT.’ garnering over 2billion views on YouTube, the first of her solo material to do so.

That news came shortly after she became the first-ever Korean act to win Song of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). ‘APT.’ broke numerous records and topped charts following its release in October – also becoming the fastest K-pop song to surpass one billion streams on Spotify.

The track was also named one of NME’s best 50 songs of 2024 and clinched the second spot on NME’s list of the best 25 K-pop songs of the year, with Sara Delgado saying that with “a genius interpolation of Toni Basil’s ‘Mickey’ and an infectiously funky chanted chorus, ‘APT.’ will go down in history as the perfect case study on how to launch a solo career.

“The cherry on top of a great package? The assist (vocally, but also creatively) from the ever-charismatic Bruno Mars.”

The song also scored a glowing five-star review, with NME’s Rhian Daly writing: “There’s a power and confidence in her voice that far surpasses her past performances, and the vintage pop-rock riffs and attitude – which echo with elements of Toni Basil, Blondie and Joan Jett – feel sublimely suited to her as an artist.

“Addictive, flirty and a whole lot of fun, ‘APT.’ is the perfect introduction to Rosé’s new chapter.”

Rose Covers Lana Del Rey, Paul Simon on ‘The Howard Stern Show’

by jummy84 September 26, 2025

The singer pulled from Lana Del Rey’s “Norman Fucking Rockwell” and Paul Simon’s “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” to create the bluesy “50 Ways to Leave Your Norman”

Rosé stopped by the Howard Stern Show for a solo showcase. The Blackpink singer brought her own hit single, the Bruno Mars-assisted “APT.,” but also whipped up a fusion of two songs from two distinct artists. In a medley performance, Rosé pulled from Lana Del Rey‘s “Norman Fucking Rockwell” and Paul Simon‘s “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” to create the bluesy cover record “50 Ways to Leave Your Norman.”

The two songs share a loose narrative thread. Rosé started off singing about a pretentious poet in her less explicit version of “Norman Fucking Rockwell,” crooning, “You talk to the walls when the party gets bored of you/But I don’t get bored, I just see it through/Why wait for the best when I could have you?” As she transitioned into “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover,” a sudden realization comes to light thanks to some much needed advice.

“You just slip out the back, Jack/Make a new plan, Stan/You don’t need to be coy, Roy/Just get yourself free,” Rosé sang with an edge of funk from her band in the studio. “Hop on the bus, Gus/You don’t need to discuss much/Just drop off the key, Lee/And get yourself free.”

While on the show, Rosé also shared the original demo for “APT.” before Bruno Mars contributed his feature. In the original verses, she encouraged a similar exit strategy, only with different motives. “We’ve been talking seven days a week/But you can’t hold my body through a screen/So you should leave your friends back at the bar,” she sang on the recording. “The night is still young, I got what you need/You can go and call yourself a car/Don’t tell anyone that you gon’ meet me at the…”

“APT.” appeared on Rosé’s debut solo album Rosie, which arrived in December. This weekend, she’ll perform the record at Global Citizen Festival in New York City.

Howard Stern pranks listeners, fakes he’s leaving SiriusXM — he’s not – National

by jummy84 September 8, 2025

Howard Stern gave listeners a shock on Monday morning when Andy Cohen took over his timeslot and claimed the channel was now called “Andy 100.”

The stunt came after weeks of promos that promised a big reveal, following swirling speculation that Stern’s show would be cancelled. “The tabloids have spoken: Howard Stern fired, cancelled,” one promo video said. “Is it really bye-bye Booey?”

“I know that you’re expecting a big announcement from Howard, and this is not how things were meant to go,” Cohen, 57, said on-air Monday morning. “There’s been a lot of talk about what’s going to happen with Howard’s deal. Is he fired? I don’t know how much I’m allowed to say, except that he’s not here and I am.”

“Howard was supposed to start the show today, and this was supposed to be something of a cleaner hand-off. There is nothing clean about it. Here we are. I’m kind of winging it,” Cohen continued. “I can’t overstate what Howard has meant to this company and what he did for SiriusXM. He walked so that we could run. I can’t possibly fill his void.”

The Real Housewives executive producer went on to say that he was confident that Stern would land a position on another platform soon, before the popular radio host joined him on air and thanked him for going along with the prank.

Stern, 71, took over and confirmed that he would be continuing to work with SiriusXM after rumours began that he hadn’t been renewed.

“I was just getting so f—ing annoyed with everyone writing me, asking me if I was OK because I’d been fired,” Stern began.

“I’m minding my own business, enjoying my summer vacation. [A reporter] says that I’ve been fired for being too woke. In light of the Stephen Colbert firing — because the word on Stephen was that it was all part of this merger, and they fired Stephen because he’s too woke — the story then became ‘Howard Stern is fired because he’s too woke,’” Stern said Monday. “What pisses me off is that now I can’t leave. I’ve been thinking about retiring. Now I can’t.”

“Everything you’ve been reading in the paper about me or Robin [Quivers] is completely false,” Stern added.

After confirming his return to the show on Monday, Stern also hinted that “one of the positive things” about the situation was hearing other companies’ interest in The Howard Stern Show.

“I’m very happy at Sirius,” Stern said before praising SiriusXM CEO Jennifer Witz.

Witz had previously released her own statement about Stern, saying, “I think he’s been core to our platform for over 20 years, so I’m confident we’ll get to the right place.”

Speculation grew after Stern postponed his return from a summer break last week. His show told listeners that he would address the topic of his SiriusXM deal when he returned on Sept. 2, but he postponed the show’s return until Sept. 8.

Stern did not share if he had signed a new contract with SiriusXM as his current deal expires at the end of 2025.

“Here’s the truth: SiriusXM and my team have been talking about how we go forward in the future. They’ve approached me, they’ve sat down with me like they normally do, and they’re fantastic,” Stern shared.

Stern joining what was then Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. in 2006 made him one of the highest-paid personalities in broadcasting and was a game changer for both the company and the nascent satellite radio industry.

Stern extended his contract with SiriusXM twice before, in 2010 and again in 2020, with a five-year, US$500-million deal, Forbes reported.

“He’s been with me and the company going on two decades, and so he’s pretty happy, but he’s also able, like many great artists, to stop whenever he wants,” SiriusXM president and chief content officer Scott Greenstein told The Hollywood Reporter in 2024. “Nobody will ever replace them. We would never try to replace them.”

Howard Stern Trolls Media As He Addresses Future with SiriusXM

by jummy84 September 8, 2025
written by jummy84

Following reports over the summer that his SiriusXM program would be canceled at the end of his contract in 2025, Howard Stern addressed the speculation head-on with a spectacular troll job on Monday. In his first episode back from summer break, Stern pranked the media by handing the mic to his friend Andy Cohen, who pretended that Stern had parted ways with SiriusXM and taken over the show.

“I know you’re expecting a big announcement from Howard, and this is not how things were meant to go,” Cohen said. This was supposed to be a cleaner hand off — I’m kind of winging it.” Within minutes, The Associated Press and other media outlets ran headlines about Cohen replacing Stern.

Eventually, the prank was revealed, as Stern took over the mic to finally address his future. “Everything you’ve been reading about me in the paper… is completely false,” Stern began. “I was just getting so fucking annoyed with everyone writing me, asking me if I was okay because I’d been fired.”

Stern proceeded to recap recent events, noting how the media reported he had been fired “for being too woke. Stern scoffed, “I still don’t even know what that means. “If I’m woke, okay who gives a fuck? … Sirius employs a lot of woke people and a lot of right-wingers, too.”

“Then all of a sudden, I’m sitting home and everybody I know in my world, even peripherally, is writing me. ‘Are you okay, are you okay?’ ” he continued. “None of it is true, zero truth.”

“What pisses me off is now I can’t leave. I’ve been thinking about retiring, now I can’t.”

While Stern did not elaborate on whether he has reached a new contract extension with SiriusXM, he said he is “very happy” at the company and praised its CEO, Jennifer Witz.

Howard Stern’s Show Canceled at SiriusXM, Andy Cohen Takes Over Channel

by jummy84 September 8, 2025
written by jummy84

Howard Stern‘s run on SiriusXM has come to an end after 20 years.

Last month, amid a spate of rumors and speculation that Stern’s SiriusXM deal was not being renewed, Stern gleefully turned the chatter into a tune-in promo. His show told listeners he would address the topic on the Sept. 2 episode of “The Howard Stern Show”; however, last week, he postponed the reveal until Sept. 8 — indicating that a deal was not yet done.

On Monday morning, on Stern’s Channel 100 on SiriusXM, it wasn’t Stern who came on the air — it was Andy Cohen who introduced himself and said that the channel going forward will now be known as “Andy 100.”

“I know you’re expecting a big announcement from Howard, and this is not how things were meant to go,” Cohen said. “This was supposed to be a cleaner hand off — I’m kind of winging it,” he continued, saying that it has been a “surreal morning here.”

Added Cohen, “I can’t possibly fill his void” and said he was confident Stern would land on another platform soon.

Stern, who is 71, first signed with satellite radio broadcaster Sirius in 2004 (prior to its merger with XM), in part to be free of oversight by the FCC, which had levied millions of dollars in fines on terrestrial radio stations that carried his show for alleged indecency. “The Howard Stern Show” debuted on Sirius in January 2006. His most recent five-year renewal with SiriusXM was inked in 2020.

Last week, SiriusXM execs acknowledged that talks with Stern were ongoing but that they hoped to ink a new deal. “I think he’s been core to our platform for over 20 years, so I’m confident we’ll get to the right place,” SiriusXM CEO Jennifer Witz said Sept. 3 at an investment conference.

Stern’s original deal with Sirius was worth $500 million over five years including stock. His more recent renewals “topped out at roughly $80 million to $100 million,” according to Bloomberg. Regarding a Bloomberg report in 2020 that Stern was nearing a deal with SiriusXM worth $120 million annually, Stern said on his show at the time that he and his agent were “kind of baffled by it.”

Over the years, the notoriously ribald Stern has interviewed hundreds of actors, comedians, music artists, athletes, politicians and more on his show. At his side for most of his career have been co-host Robin Quivers, write Fred Norris and producer Gary “Baba Booey” Dell’Abate.

Was ‘The Howard Stern Show’ Canceled? What We Know So Far – Hollywood Life

Amid an evolving entertainment landscape, a new report surfaced in August 2025 claiming that “The Howard Stern Show” will be canceled after almost two decades. Host Howard Stern, who has led the show with SiriusXM, has a multi-million-dollar contract set to expire later this year. So, is it true — is Howard’s show about to be canceled?

The rumors circulated on the heels of the shocking cancelation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, which CBS (a Paramount Global company) defended as a “financial decision.” The decision was considered controversial, though, because the network had just settled its lawsuit with Donald Trump.

Below, get updates on the status of “The Howard Stern Show.”

What Is Howard Stern’s SiriusXM Salary?

Stern’s salary from SiriusXM ranges between $80 million and $100 million per year, according to multiple outlets. His five-year contract extension with the company equates to around $500 million in total.

Stern currently boasts a net worth of $650 million, per Celebrity Net Worth.

Is Howard Stern Being Canceled by SiriusXM?

Howard’s contract with SiriusXM is about to expire at the end of 2025. He signed a five-year extension with the broadcasting company in December 2020.

“The Howard Stern Show” is expected to be canceled, according to The U.S. Sun. The outlet reported on August 5, 2025, that SiriusXM is “planning to make [Stern] an offer, [and] they don’t intend for him to take it.”

“Sirius and Stern are never going to meet on the money he is going to want,” an insider told the outlet, adding that the radio show is “no longer worth the investment.”

The source further alleged that there’s “no way” SiriusXM “can keep paying [Stern’s] salary,” even pointing to Stephen Colbert‘s show’s cancelation.

“After you saw what happened with Stephen Colbert, it’s like they just can’t afford to keep him going,” the insider added.

A separate source told the publication that Stern’s show’s cancelation has “everything to do with the political climate,” since the host is a critic of the Republican president.

Has Howard Stern or Sirius XM Commented on the Cancelation Rumors?

No, neither Stern nor anybody from SiriusXM has publicly commented on the new report. He’s delayed his return for another few days, though.
