Bill Maher Calls White House “Just A Building” After Demo

by jummy84 October 25, 2025
written by jummy84

As Donald Trump stirs up more national outrage over his demolition of the White House‘s East Wing, one of his favorite dinner guests is brushing off the controversy.

On Friday’s episode of Real Time, Bill Maher gave a flippant response when guest panelist Michael Steele mourned “the destruction of a symbol of this government” after the Trump administration had the historic structure torn down to make way for his ballroom.

“You’re talking about the White House? Oh, it’s a building, Mike. It’s a building.”

Steele argued that Trump “tore it down without accountability,” explaining, “It’s a building, maybe to you, but to a lot of Americans, it’s not. And I’m gonna tell you, as a young kid growing up in D.C., when my daddy took me by that building, it meant something to me as a 10-year-old. It meant something to me to grow up in a town where everybody in this country came and protested, and cried and screamed and laughed. So, that building, for me, was my childhood.”

Maher rebutted, “First of all, I agree. I said, he should have gotten the permits. But that’s how he does things. I agree. But it is just a building … that part of the building wasn’t always there. Presidents do change the buildings. Nixon put in a bowling alley, Obama made the tennis court a basketball court. I can’t get this mad about everything, Mike, I just can’t.”

“The symbolism is, he’s not leaving. That’s what bothers me about it. Who puts in a giant ballroom if you’re leaving?” he added. “OK, but that’s the issue, not the building.”

Panelist Kate Bedingfield argued that the destruction is an example of Trump’s behavior being “impulsive, reckless, driven by his own desire for self-agrandizement.”

“If this was the only thing he had done on that front, then I would give you, ‘it’s just a building,’” said Bedingfield. “But it’s not. It’s part of a manner of governing that’s tearing at some of the institutional foundations in this country, and that’s scary.”

Maher later had to swallow his own words after his writers apparently didn’t get the memo about his lack of concern for the White House demolition, joking on his ‘New Rules’ segment: “Now that President Trump is redecorating the White House, building a ballroom and hosting brunches at his new rose garden club…”

After an uncomfortable pause, Maher continued, “He has to start a new series called Queer Eye for the Authoritarian Guy.”

Photos taken on Thursday appeared to show that the Trump administration has not only torn down the East Wing—which was built in 1902 and renovated in 1942—but the East Colonnade, which included a movie theater that has hosted screenings for decades.

The White House has defended the project, noting that it is being privately funded and that many presidents of the past have made alterations. The area is being cleared to make way for Trump’s planned $300 million ballroom, with a list of corporate donors including Comcast and Amazon providing funds.

A Tribute to the White House Movie Theater, Now Demolished

by jummy84 October 24, 2025
written by jummy84

The history of movie screenings in the White House did not begin auspiciously.

On February 18, 1915, D.W. Griffith unspooled his three-hour “The Birth of a Nation” in the East Room of the White House to a rhapsodic response. The then-president, Woodrow Wilson, was a defender of the Confederacy and peddled “Lost Cause” propaganda, and he was literally quoted three times in the film itself, including a remark in which he praised the Ku Klux Klan.

It’s generally accepted that after that screening Wilson said of Griffith’s film, immediately controversial upon release as it has been ever since, that it was “like writing history with lightning.” If this choice as the first movie ever projected inside the White House is lamentable, take heart in knowing that there was a previous screening outside on the lawn of the 1914 Italian silent masterpiece “Cabiria” that was the very first movie shown on the grounds full-stop.

Johnny Depp, Ti West, and Andrea Riseborough

These screenings kicked off a history of moviegoing at the White House that has continued ever since, culminating with the conversion of an East Wing cloakroom into the White House Family Theater, an on-site cinema, in 1942.

Well, it was a history that lasted until October 2025. The movie theater was razed this week as part of the Trump administration’s demolition of the entire East Wing to make way for a proposed $300 million ballroom. A lot of history was lost this week, but the movie theater was part of it — and it shouldn’t be forgotten.

Capable of seating 42, the White House Family Theater came about at a moment when the Franklin Roosevelt administration recognized the unique power movies held over the public. This was a time when the average moviegoer went to the cinema twice per week. And as America lurched ever closer to entering World War II, despite national polls showing the American public was extremely isolationist and that Charles Lindbergh’s “America First” rhetoric had taken root, Roosevelt recognized that closer ties with the American movie industry might be in the government’s best interest. When the U.S. finally entered the war, Roosevelt said, “Entertainment is always a national asset. Invaluable in time of peace, it is indispensable in wartime.”

Creating a Bureau of Motion Pictures, Roosevelt also transformed part of the White House’s East Wing in order to screen films as a way of gauging the national mood. As the White House Historical Association puts it, “In 1942, Roosevelt ordered an East Terrace cloakroom called the ‘Hat Box’ converted into a movie theater. Here the president enjoyed watching newsreels and took special interest in the battles fought in Europe and Asia.”

Since then, films screened in the White House Family Theater have been a matter of public record. The Washington D.C. rare books store Second Story Books has a handwritten log of many of the movies screened during the FDR, Truman, and Eisenhower administrations, and it’s an eclectic list. FDR watched Paul Robeson in “The Emperor Jones” along with many Marie Dressler comedies. Many Disney films were screened for younger members of the Roosevelt family. And he even took movies on the road, including the 1943 version of “The Phantom of the Opera” to that year’s Cairo Summit, and Howard Hawks’ masterpiece “To Have and Have Not” to Yalta. The final film FDR watched before his death was the Charles Laughton noir “The Suspect,” screened in March 1945 and with Crown Princess Juliana of Holland in attendance.

Decades before President Obama made the reveal of his favorite movies each year an annual event, a kind of White House to Oscars pipeline took hold, starting with a White House screening of 1948’s eventual best picture winner “Hamlet.” Eisenhower’s screening of “High Noon,” which he later declared a personal favorite, established that movie as a go-to answer for presidents or aspiring presidents when asked their favorite movie.

The D.C.-Hollywood connection was then forever set during the Kennedy Administration. On November 20, 1963, two days before his assassination, JFK watched the last movie he’d ever see, the second James Bond entry, “From Russia with Love” — he had declared Fleming’s original novel one of his top 10 favorite books.

Subsequent administrations would go so far as to keep official screening records of all the movies watched at the White House Family Theater in their respective presidential libraries (though the University of Chicago Press compiled all of Nixon’s screenings, which featured some contemporary titles but veered more toward Old Hollywood throwbacks). There are publicly accessible archives online through these libraries where you can see what exactly was screened for POTUS during the Reagan administration, Bill Clinton’s, and George W. Bush’s.

Jimmy Carter saw about 480 movies at the White House during his four-years in office, including a pre-Cannes screening of “Apocalypse Now” in May 1979 with Francis Ford Coppola in attendance. One screening of Ingmar Bergman’s “Autuma Sonata” apparently drew 48 White House staffers, beyond the Family Theater’s capacity. Carter’s moviegoing even extended to Camp David, where he arranged a screening for Egyptian leader Anwar Sadat of “Star Wars” that they watched together in the leadup to the historic summit that led to peace between Egypt and Israel. Paul Schrader’s “Hardcore”? Screened at the White House.

Moviegoing at the White House Family Theater arguably hit an all-time high during the Reagan years, not surprising given that the White House’s occupant was a former Hollywood movie star himself. But Reagan went a step further than his predecessors by leaving mini reviews of the movies he screened, as recalled in the memoir of his press secretary Mark Weinberg, titled “Movie Nights with the Reagans.” Reagan’s taste could be pretty wide-ranging, and for as much as he was a staunch anti-communist Reagan told Warren Beatty he wished his movie “Reds” had a happy ending.

Later on, Gwyneth Paltrow says that Bill Clinton dozed off and snored loudly during a screening of “Emma,” while Roland Emmerich recalled to THR how Bill Clinton watched the White House get blown up for a screening of “Independence Day.” George W. Bush took the White House Family Theater so seriously that he actually had the whole thing redecorated in movie theater red to look like an old movie palace. Barack Obama screened “La La Land,” and Donald Trump‘s first movie he watched there was “Finding Dory.”

Now, the White House Family Theater is no more.

bitchy | Donald Trump forgot to say that he’s demolishing the entire White House East Wing

by jummy84 October 23, 2025
written by jummy84

Months ago, Donald Trump announced his plan to build a gigantic, gaudy new “White House ballroom” on the east side of the WH campus. He actually said, repeatedly and on the record, that the plan was to build a big ballroom adjacent to the existing structure, and perhaps attach the ballroom to the mansion via some kind of breezeway. Like everything that comes out of that ugly orange man’s mouth, all of that was a lie. Several days ago, construction started on the ballroom. Scratch that – construction has NOT started, because they’re too busy demolishing the White House’s East Wing. On Wednesday, the White House confirmed that the entirety of the East Wing will be demolished by this weekend.

The White House is demolishing the entirety of the East Wing to make way for President Trump’s $200 million ballroom, a construction project that is far more extensive than he initially let on, a senior administration official said on Wednesday.

The tear-down should be finished by this weekend, according to the official, who was not authorized to speak publicly about the plans. When Mr. Trump first announced his plans for the ballroom, he pledged that the East Wing wouldn’t be touched by the construction.

“It’ll be views of the Washington Monument. It won’t interfere with the current building. It’ll be near it but not touching it,” the president said. “And pays total respect to the existing building, which I’m the biggest fan of.”

But, upon further evaluation, the White House determined it was cheaper and more structurally sound to demolish the East Wing to construct the ballroom, rather than build an addition, the official said. The new structure will also have enhanced security features, the official said.

[From The NY Times]

The few wide-perspective shots of that side of the White House already showed just how extensive the project is, but it’s pretty crazy that Trump has been lying his ass off for months, and then mid-demolition, he’s like “oh year, we’re taking this whole thing down.” Historic preservationists are really upset, obviously:

Photos of construction teams knocking down parts of the East Wing, first revealed by The Washington Post on Monday, shocked preservationists, raised questions about White House overreach and lack of transparency, and sparked complaints from Democrats that President Donald Trump was damaging “the People’s House” to pursue a personal priority.

“They’re wrecking it,” said Martha Joynt Kumar, a political scientist and professor emeritus at Towson University in Maryland. “And these are changes that can’t be undone. They’re destroying that history forever.”

A White House spokesman said that the “entirety” of the East Wing would eventually be “modernized and rebuilt.”

The National Trust for Historic Preservation, a nonprofit created by Congress to help preserve historic buildings, sent a letter Tuesday to administration officials, warning that the planned 90,000-square-foot ballroom “will overwhelm the White House itself,” which is about 55,000 square feet. “We respectfully urge the Administration and the National Park Service to pause demolition until plans for the proposed ballroom go through the legally required public review processes,” Carol Quillen, National Trust’s CEO, said in a statement, citing two federal commissions that have traditionally reviewed White House additions.

White House officials dismissed the criticism as “manufactured outrage,” arguing that past presidents had pursued their own changes to the executive campus as necessary. They said that the privately funded ballroom will be a “bold, necessary addition” to the presidential grounds.

“For more than a century, U.S. Presidents have been renovating, expanding, and modernizing the White House to meet the needs of the present day,” the White House’s rapid-response team posted on social media, listing examples of prior campus construction.

The Treasury Department on Monday evening instructed employees not to take or share photos of the construction project without permission, according to a person who spoke on the condition of anonymity to detail an internal email. The Treasury headquarters is next to the White House, with some of its offices providing a close view of the East Wing. But areas where the demolition is viewable are closed to the public, fueling criticism about the Trump administration’s lack of transparency.

One of the people who witnessed the demolition Tuesday said that views of the site from Treasury headquarters amplify the demolition, but a large part of the structure remained by late afternoon. However, it appeared that what remained was also headed for demolition, with no evidence that the structure was being protected and only jagged damage visible in the exposed building.

[From WaPo]

“U.S. Presidents have been renovating, expanding, and modernizing the White House to meet the needs of the present day.” Yeah, during the Cold War, the space UNDER the White House was dug out and filled with rooms/shelters and tunnels which could conceivably survive a massive bomb or terrorist attack. We’re not talking about security upgrades, nor are we talking about “Michelle Obama adding a vegetable garden.” Trump didn’t consult with anyone before ripping out the entire East Wing of the People’s House.

White House Rejects Report Trump Is Considering Commuting Diddy’s Sentence For ProStitution-Related Convictions

The #WhiteHouse is saying not so fast.

#Trump’s administration has denied a TMZ report claiming the president is considering commuting Sean “Diddy” Combs’ prison sentence. The denial follows the publication’s citation of a “high-level White House official” who allegedly said clemency was being weighed for the Bad Boy Records founder. As reported, #Diddy was sentenced to 50 months in prison after being convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in pro$titution; he was acquitted in July on the more serious s3x trafficking and racketeering charges.

While the White House has denied the claim, TMZ is standing by its story, updating the article with, “The White House Communications Office is saying our story is not true. We stand by our story. Our story is accurate.”

Andrea Bocelli Serenades Trump, Will Return to White House in December

by jummy84 October 19, 2025

Back in 2016, Donald Trump tapped Andrea Bocelli to perform at his first inauguration before abruptly rescinding the invitation, reportedly to shield the famed tenor from backlash. On Friday, Bocelli stopped by the Oval Office and serenaded the US president, who announced the singer will return to the White House in December.

Trump advisor Margo Martin shared footage of the visit on social media. In typically gaudy fashion, Bocelli’s own music was blasted throughout the White House and even the Oval Office. The president then coaxed him into singing along, presumably without giving the opera star a chance to warm up.

Trump is a longtime fan of Bocelli’s work, having previously booked him to play a private party at Mar-a-Lago in 2010.

Bocelli’s White House performance is set for December 5th, two days ahead of the revamped 2025 Kennedy Center Honors. Trump will host that event, recognizing honorees including George Strait, KISS, Sylvester Stallone, and Gloria Gaynor.

Herrmann’s House Is on Fire — Is One of His Kids Inside?

by jummy84 October 16, 2025
written by jummy84

Send everyone! It’s about to get very personal for one of 51’s own in the next Chicago Fire Season 14 episode, airing on Wednesday, October 22. What’s worse: A life may be in serious danger.

The promo for the episode titled “Mercy” begins with a house fire coming in over the radio, and as soon as the address is said, the reaction is immediate. “That’s my house,” Herrmann says and runs. Firehouse 51 rushes to the scene, and it doesn’t look good.

“Annabelle stayed home today,” Herrmann reveals, of course very worried. He rushes inside, yelling for his daughter. Is she in there? Watch the full promo above for a look at the scene in the house. Whatever happens, we know 51 will rally around Herrmann, but that wouldn’t be enough if one of his kids die.

Then, scroll down to see the photos released from this episode. They offer a look at 51 on scene at Herrmann’s as well as back at the firehouse. Plus, see Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) at home with Isaiah (Hero Hunter), whom they’re fostering while his mother recovers. She’d had a setback by the end of the last episode when Kidd took him to see her in the hospital; she needed to have an emergency procedure done to remove fluid around her brain.

But do these photos suggest that things will at least be getting better between Kidd and Isaiah? She’d been worried that he wasn’t warming up to her like Severide and had hoped going shoe shopping, then to see his mom together would help.

The episode description for “Mercy” reads as follows: “Firehouse 51 must band together after a devastating fire catches them off guard. Vasquez [Brandon Larracuente] continues his quest for answers. Violet [Hanako Greensmith] and Novak [Jocelyn Hudon] face an unexpected roadblock in the new training protocol.” In the latest episode, after a paramedic fell asleep at the wheel, causing a crash, due to the CFD changes that have overloaded EMTs with work, Violet came up with an idea: have firefighters, who are dealing with brownouts and being taken off shift for budget cuts, ride with them.

What are you hoping to see in this episode? Check out the photos below, then head to the comments section with your predictions.

EXCLUSIVE: Zeishan Quadri REACTS To Kunickaa Sadanand’s Allegation Of Abusing In Bigg Boss 19 House

by jummy84 October 14, 2025
written by jummy84

During one of the episodes of Bigg Boss 19, Kunickaa Sadanand called out Zeishan Quadri for his abusive language. The now-evicted contestant spoke to Bollywood Bubble, and he cleared the air on how the disagreement began. Zeishan opened up on supporting the wildcard Malti Chahar during the task. Scroll down to read what he said and watch teh full interview.

Zeishan Quadri On Kunickaa Sadanand’s Allegation Of Abusing In Bigg Boss 19

When asked about Kunickaa Sadanand’s game in Bigg Boss 19, Zeishan Quadri said, “Dekhiye, main aapko batata hoon sabse pehele baat to yeh hai ki maine ab tak poore Bigg Boss season mein kisi se bhi gaali-galauj nahi ki. Varna main kisi ke mausi ka ladka nahi hoon, Bigg Boss. Yeh baat agar main complaint karta, to Salman sir meri bhi wat laga dete. Hai na? Toh maine kisi se gaali-galauj nahi ki. Chahe Abhishek aaye, aaj nahi to kal bahar aayenge, Pranit ya jo bhi aaye, sabse puchhna, kya maine kabhi kisi se gaali-galauj ki? Nahi ki.”

He added, “Magar Kunickaa ji ne mujhe itna poke kar diya tha ki ek point of time pe maine unhe bola, ‘One point of time, I told her, ‘Kunickaa ji, Kunickaa ji se Kunickaa pe aane mein 5 second nahi lagaoonga.’ Apni izzat apne haath mein hoti hai, izzat sambhal ke rakho aap. Toh woh is baat se chidh gayi, aur unhone bola, ‘Main thappad maar dungi.’ Maine kaha, ‘Maar ke dikhao.’ Aur mukhya darwaza khula hai, nikal jao idhar se. Thik hai. Yehi baat unhone Baseer ko bhi boli. Baseer ne kaha, ‘How dare you! Touch me if you can.’ Toh yeh do baatein hui.”

Zeishan Says Kunickaa Called Him Gunda

The writer-actor said, “Phir Kunickaa ji ne meri is baat ko lekar bathroom mein sabko bola, ‘Yeh Wasseypur ka gunda hai, falana hai, aisa hai, waisa hai.’ Toh maine bhi bola, ‘Jo bhi ho, main to hoon — proudly hoon gunda! Agar aap mujhe yeh keh rahe ho.’ Aur uske baad do din ke andar phir mujhe ‘Respect’ dene lage — ‘Zeishan bhai’! Zeishan se hi shuru hua tha pehle din, aur 20-22 din baad aap wapas ‘Zeishan bhai’ pe aa gaye. Toh main to aisa gunda banna pasand karunga jise kam se kam respect to milti hai.”

Zeishan Quadri On Wild Card Malti Chahar, Tanya Mittal

Speaking of Malti Chahar, Tanya Mittal being insecure, Zeishan said, “Koi bhi relationship ko aap choke nahi kar sakte life mein ki ‘Yahan utho, yahan baitho, yahan khao, yahan piyo.’ Bhai sahab, main aise relationships maanta hi nahi hoon. Aur na main kisi ko choke karta hoon. Sab independent hain, azaad hain. Chaar kamron ka ghar hai yaar — kahin bhi utho, baitho. Yahi 14-15 sadasya hain, inhi ke saath uthna-baithna hai, inhi ko call-out karna hai. Par aisa nahi ho sakta ki agar mere chaar dost hain, to main sirf unhi ke paas baitha rahun. Yahi takleef mere group ko bhi hui thi ki ‘Har jagah uthta-baithta hai.’ To bhai, uthta-baithta hoon na, kya problem hai? Par jab group ko zarurat hui, to main khada raha na.”

He continued, “Aap sabne dekha — jab main bahar nikla, tab bhi maine apne group ki back-bitching nahi kari. Kisi ke baare mein complaint nahi ki. Sabse mil-jul ke raha — nomination ho, ya captain banana ho — maine wahi kara jo mere group ko sahi laga. Main wahan par khada raha. To theek hai, usmein kya farq padta hai kisiko kya lagta hai. Agar unko lagta hai ki main Malti ke saath kyu hoon, to bhai, main hoon! Abhi nayi candidate aayi hai — mujhe dekhna tha uske dimaag mein kya chal raha hai. Mujhe aage tak rehna hai, main thodi soch raha tha ki agle hafte nikal jaunga! To mujhe jaanna tha ki uske dimaag mein kya planning chal rahi hai ya nahi. Eventually, teesre din tak hi equation badal gayi — Malti, jo Nehal aur Farhana ki acchi dost thi, un sabki ladaai ho gayi.”

Zeishan On Groupism

The writer-actor added, “Poora ghar unhe corner karne laga. Toh maine kaha, ‘Corner mat karo kisi ko.’ Poora ghar agar kisi ko corner karega, to main khada rahunga uske saath. Aur usko aaye hue sirf teen din hue the. Rather than asking her, ‘Aap aayi ho, kaisi ho, kya karti ho, kya dekha, kis game plan se aayi ho,’ sab log usse pooch rahe the, ‘Main kaisa lag raha hoon? TRP kaise ja rahi hai? Main kaisa dikh raha hoon?’ Toh aapne to sab kuch apne baare mein poocha na, uske baare mein jaane ki koshish hi kahan ki. Isliye main uske saath khada ho gaya. Simple, seedhi si baat hai.”

Zeishan Quadri was recently seen in Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss 19.

EXCLUSIVE: Delnaaz Irani Want To Participate In Bigg Boss Again? Actress REACTS To Entering BB19 House As A Wildcard Contestant

by jummy84 October 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Actress Delnaaz Irani, who became popular after her appearance on Bigg Boss 6, recently shared her excitement about the idea of returning to the reality show. When asked if she would like to come back as a wild card or regular contestant in Bigg Boss 19, Delnaaz responded with enthusiasm.

Delnaaz Irani Excited About Re-Entering Bigg Boss

Delnaaz Irani went on to say how much she enjoys the Bigg Boss environment. Talking to Bollywood Bubble, she said, “Of course! Bigg Boss is such a fun and exciting game. It’s one of the best reality shows. Why wouldn’t I want to go back? I would love to re-enter as a regular contestant or even as a wild card.”

Delnaaz Irani also spoke about how the show has changed over time. She reflected on her earlier experience, saying, “I would keep reentering Bigg Boss because it’s such a lovely place to be in. I think year after year, people say it’s just becoming worse, but worse for whom? Audiences are getting entertained every year. Bauth log bauth kuch bolte hai, but every year it’s a notch above. It’s doing very well, and the contestants are really entertaining. I feel every year there are a bunch of people who are so different, so unique. It would be really interesting for me to see myself today as a different Delnaaz Irani going into Bigg Boss, because jab hum log ne game kheli thi it was the beginning years of Bigg Boss. Even makers were trying to know what they could do, how they could proceed with the game, and it was so new for everybody. It was so new for everyone, like just six years into the show, and people were still getting their bearings.”

Delnaaz ended by saying she would now enter the house fully prepared. She said, “Abhi agar koi jata hai toh, obviously, one would be totally prepared, I would go all prepared, and I am, I’m totally excited with the question only. So I guess, it would be lovely to re-enter Big Boss.”

As Bigg Boss Season 19 continues, fans are excited to see who will make it to the finals and who will take home the trophy. If Delnaaz enters the house it would be an entertaining watch for the audience.
