Why Booktopia is the hottest travel trend right now

by jummy84 November 12, 2025
written by jummy84

Imagine waking to the scent of the ocean and quiet streets that have barely changed in centuries. Your only agenda? To read, write, or simply notice the small details. Welcome to the magic of the literary retreat.

Alekhya focuses on workshops, guided by editors and published authors.

These dedicated, serene getaways that are gaining popularity, are focused entirely on writing, reading and creative development.

According to Skyscanner’s Travel Trends 2026 report, nearly eight in ten Indians are already planning or considering a book-inspired getaway, solidifying this trend for the coming year.

Uninterrupted reading in the quiet of nature

The Himalayan Writing Retreat in Satkhol, Nainital, is hidden among hushed forested corners, ideal for anyone seeking to read or write without interruption.

Debdatta Dasgupta, who leads the retreat, emphasises the goal: “We want participants to disconnect, slow down, and just be by themselves. The only thing we ask is reading.” While there is a flexible schedule with workshops, walks, movie nights, and book discussions, nothing is compulsory. “If someone wants to just sit and read, that is perfectly fine,” Debdatta says. “Many participants report rediscovering the sheer joy of reading, a difficult feat in a fast-paced world,” he adds.

Another location, The Himalayan Orchard Book Retreat in Shimla, offers guests a stay for a minimum of three nights with no fixed schedule. The property offers guests a personal desk, library access, and optional guided hikes.

Ankita Chaudhuri, a participant in one such retreat, says, “It is the perfect getaway for those who used to read thousand-page books over a weekend as kids, but can’t seem to get through a 100-page novella now. It brought back the joy of reading for me with a lot of adventure.”

Also, the cost of a literary retreat is determined by the bespoke offerings, which include the stay, meals, experiences, and workshops. Prices can start from around ₹35,000 and go up to ₹85,000.

Read, write, and learn from experts

For those seeking a more structured experience, the Alekhya Writing Retreat near Kasol, combines inspiration with professional guidance. Hosted an hour and a half from the nearest major town, the retreat requires a 30-minute trek to reach its forest location, which offers home-cooked food and stunning views.

Mahima Sood, who hosts the retreat, says it focuses on workshops, guided by editors and published authors. This five-day course, costing around ₹50,000 all-inclusive, helps writers gain clarity on their work and even offers scholarships.

One attendee, Akshay Gajria, writing coach, fondly recalled the community and focused writing time, “It’s been a month since I left. I miss the place and the people I met there. The conversations… standing before the library and thinking which book to read, sitting under the sun, I had written a lot.”

Destinations that move inspiration

The location of a retreat is paramount, chosen specifically for its history, culture, and atmosphere. For instance, the Bound Writers’ Retreat found its perfect starting point in a 200-year-old Portuguese villa on Goa’s Divar Island. Tara Khandelwal, the founder, explains that every activity —from food tastings to island walks — is designed to spark story ideas and help participants notice the small details around them. They even offer workshops with renowned authors like Samit Basu and Prayaag Akbar.

A major focus of these gatherings is building a sense of community. “Writing is a solitary job, so having a community is very powerful,” Khandelwal notes. Participants often form lasting bonds, starting writing groups, sharing work, and becoming each other’s first readers.

From brooding vampires to growling werewolves, reanimated heartbreakers to chaos-causing slashers, horror has gifted us some of the most unexpectedly sexy creatures in pop culture. Let’s get honest: Some of these characters could get it. These are the monsters who make us nervously check our phones… and maybe our closets. They’re scary, dangerous, and maybe just a little bit irresistible. Our hearts are beating fast, whether that’s from a little bit of desire or mostly fear, we’ll never know.

In the spirit of Halloween, Swooon has rounded up the hottest monsters across movies and TV, from the undead to the unhinged, the furry to the fanged. Some will haunt your dreams, some will make you laugh, and all of them are totally deserving (in some universe) of a swipe right.

Khushi Kapoor and her best friend Orry are still ruling the internet with their energetic vibes and cute bond. Popular for their funky social media reels and chic public outings, the duo has recently shared yet another entertaining video just before Manish Malhotra’s celebrity Diwali bash.

In their recent reel, which became viral at lightning speed, Khushi and Orry lip-sync to the popular song Sugar On My Tongue with the added fun of cracking hilarious faces. Their caption stated, “The two mosquitos right after I go to sleep,” incorporating a witty spin that amused fans. The clip, filmed just before the duo went out for the celebration of Diwali, best reflected their lighthearted camaraderie and sense of humour.

Khushi shocked in a rose-pink sequined saree that embodied the festive mood with sophistication and shine. The saree, with its delicate embroidery and sequins, provided a glamorous effect, and the full-sleeve blouse provided the look with a refined and contemporary touch. Her subtle makeup let the outfit do the talking, and her natural grace and beauty finished the look off in style. Orry, remaining consistent to his quintessential quirky-classic style, chose a classic white kurta with an understated motif print.

Before the party, Khushi also posted a series of photographs on Instagram, giving fans a close-up glimpse of her Diwali outfit. Posting it with the caption “first of the season,” she kick-started her festive season in style.

At work, Khushi Kapoor is quietly establishing herself in the movie world. She debuted as an actress in The Archies in 2023 and has since enjoyed a good year. She also appeared in Loveyapa with Junaid Khan, Aamir Khan’s son, which was out in February, and in Nadaaniyan, with Saif Ali Khan’s son Ibrahim Ali Khan. Khushi is also rumoured to be part of Mom 2, the sequel to her late mother Sridevi’s critically acclaimed 2017 film Mom, which has added to fans’ excitement.

On the personal front, Khushi is reportedly dating her The Archies co-star Vedang Raina, though the duo has remained tight-lipped about the relationship.

Brooks Nader Says She Feels Hottest Naked — Thanks to Boxing and Lymphatic Drainage Pinching Massages

Feeling hot! Brooks Nader is opening up about the routine that keeps her confident, glowing, and ready to bare it all.

The Love Thy Nader star, 28, spoke with ET at The Cîroc Athletic Club Pickleball Experience on Sept. 6 The Refinery in Brooklyn, New York, where she shared the secrets behind her fitness and self-care rituals.

“I’ve been boxing ever since I moved to the city and started modeling. It’s such a great release for stress and any pent-up feelings you need to get off your chest,” she explained.

Adding a new activity to her regimen, Nader said, “I recently got into pickleball and would love to improve. It’s so much fun.”

Even with a busy schedule, the Sports Illustrated model carves out time for self-care.

“Recovery is just as important as the actual workout. … I’m trying to listen to my body more, slow down when I can, and prioritize my health,” she shared.

Her favorite way to unwind? “I love Remedy Place,” the television personality noted, as event attendees relaxed with Norrmatec massage chairs, Hypervolt tools, and B12 shots in the Hyperice Recovery Zone.

The Louisiana native is also game to test out almost any of the latest wellness trends.

“I’ve tried salmon sperm facials and a pinching massage that’s popular in France for lymphatic drainage, where they literally just pinch you all over.”

But there are limits. You won’t catch her in an ice tank anytime soon. “I know it’s great for you, but I hate cold plunging. I’m a southern girl, so heat is everything to me,” she admitted.

Nader is, however, comfortable in her skin.

“I feel my most confident when I’m naked.” the reality star spilled.

That said, she’s just as excited to make a statement with fall fashion.

“I’m a maximalist when it comes to my style choices. I can’t wait to wear suede and boots.”

Dead Take boss had 7 months to assemble the hottest cast in gaming

by jummy84 August 29, 2025
written by jummy84

Salim’s first game, Tales of Kenzera: Zau, picked up the Game Beyond Entertainment Award at the BAFTAs. While the 2D Metroidvania centres on the theme of grief, and is steeped in African mythology, his second game features a huge mechanical and tonal shift.

Called Dead Take, it’s a first-person horror set in Hollywood, starring Neil Newbon and Ben Starr (as well as many more familiar faces).

Was it always the plan to follow Zau with something so totally different?

As Salim recalls it, “I think the reason as to why we kind of went for something so different was, I mean… I’ve always seen games as an art form, and I think you’ve got to react to what your gut’s telling you.

“And look, I remember we were pitching almost like a sequel within the [Zau] universe of it as a whole. And, you know, pitching that and seeing how that was going. And it was all right, like, it was fine.

“But it was after talking with Pocketpair and being like, ‘hey, I know you guys have just started your own publishing arm, and you’ve had your massive success [with Palworld], we’ve had our success. Like, is there maybe a collab here?’

“The idea of Dead Take kind of came into life there at the moment. And I think that’s the beauty of art, right? You can come up with these ideas, these crazy ideas, these stories, and act on it.”

With the idea greenlit, how did Salim go about assembling such a who’s who of the gaming world to act in the game?

“A lot of favours,” he tells us. “Literally calling them up and being like, ‘Hey, you want to be in my game?’

“I remember calling Ben Starr, being like, ‘Hey, buddy, do you want to be in my next game?’ And he was like, ‘Sure, great.’ And I was like, ‘You’re playing an actor who is really, really douchey at times,” Salim laughs.

“And even with Neil [Newbon], I was like, ‘Hey, Neil, I’ve got this new game idea. Do you want to be in it?’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah, sure, sign me up.’ And I’m like, ‘Great. You’re playing someone really desperate. Really needs work’,” he adds.

“That’s essentially how it all kind of came to fruition. It was just me calling these guys, explaining to them the concept, that it was this horrific take, or an angle on Hollywood that I wanted to not really hold back on.

“And they were totally game for it, because they could see the art in it. I think that’s the thing. They believed in the vision, and they trusted it. Again, I feel really fortunate to have friends who do that.”

Salim continues: “So yeah, it was a lot of calls and favour-calling, man. And it’s so funny, again, when I pitched this to Pocketpair. Keep in mind, none of [the actors] had attached themselves to the game.

“But I was like, ‘Yeah, and then I’ll get Ben Starr in it, Alanah Pearce in it. Yeah, they’ll all say yes’. And I’m thinking to myself, ‘I really hope they’re not busy.’”

Once the project was approved, Salim remembers, “We had seven months to make this game.”

“And not only that, you know, the way that we filmed it, we needed, literally… we could only do it in like a day or two. We couldn’t elongate it any more, so we had to do, like, one location, all actors at once, do it. Bash, bash, bash, get it all out the way.

“And again, testament to their skill, you know, there was a lot of dialog to learn, right? A lot of scenes to learn. But they did it. They completely smashed it out of the park, and did all the lines without a teleprompter or anything. They just committed, which is brilliant.

“And I know that they are literally the busiest actors within the video game space to date. They are always, constantly doing something, so I feel incredibly fortunate that they even gave me the time to do that.”

And where did the idea come from to have the actors appear in live-action cut scenes, but for their characters never to be seen in the gameplay segments?

“Budget,” Salim says with a laugh, before offering a more cerebral answer.

“It was really trying to keep the player immersed as much as possible. I think, as soon as you see a 3D character, you begin thinking that you’re in a game.

“You already think you’re in a game, you’re doing all these puzzles and all this sort of stuff in the environments. But like, as soon as you see an actual character, you are kind of taken out, and you’re reminded, ‘Oh, this is like an animation. It’s like a game.’

“Whereas, I really didn’t want that, I wanted to almost make you feel like this is real life. This is you, in this mansion, real life, dealing with this stuff, which is why, you know, even when it comes to the mannequins I told the team, they are basic, but the only thing that is different is each one has a different headshot of the actor, which is a real headshot,” he explains.

He ends by adding: “So, it still keeps you in the world of, ‘Oh, wow. This is real. This is, like, a real thing.’ It’s true. A lot of the stories that the game was inspired by are real stories. They are either stories or rumours that you hear in Hollywood. And I think it was important to depict that.”

Dead Take is out now on Steam and Epic.
