‘High Potential’ Boss Breaks Down Morgan’s Romantic Spark, Karadec’s Threat to Wagner, and More Midseason Finale Twists (Exclusive)

What To Know

  • High Potential showrunner Todd Harthan teases what fans can expect from the show’s midseason return in 2026.
  • After a cliffhanger conclusion, Harthan teases more romance for Morgan, tension between Karadec and Wagner.
  • The Roman mystery also continues to thicken as Harthan hints at what’s next for Morgan’s missing ex.

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for High Potential, Season 2 Episode 7, “The One That Got Away.”]

High Potential‘s second season has reached its midseason finale, leaving fans on a cliffhanger that won’t be resolved until Season 2 returns on January 6, 2026, but thankfully, showrunner Todd Harthan is making sure fans are fed until then, as we caught up with the writer and executive producer timed to the latest episode, “The One That Got Away.”

As fans saw in the installment, Morgan (Kaitlin Olson) and the LAPD were called in to investigate the case surrounding a piece of stolen art. Also on the case? The mysterious and suave Rhys (Aiden Turner), an art dealer and consultant who sparks Morgan’s curiosity. As the investigation unfolds, Morgan is drawn closer and closer to Rhys, even sharing a passionate moment in a hotel room, which raises red flags when she begins to believe he is responsible for stealing the art.

Meanwhile, Morgan’s daughter Ava (Amirah J) gets closer to Arthur (Mekhi Phifer) as they plot out their team-up to dig into Roman’s case, in juxtaposition with Soto’s (Judy Reyes) ongoing search for the missing man that Captain Wagner (Steve Howey) has become aware of, much to Karadec’s (Daniel Sunjata) dismay.

While the missing art case remained unsolved, there were more than a few mysteries left unresolved. Below, Harthan offers some clarity as he teases what fans can expect in the new year.

Disney / Mitch Haaseth

This episode ends on a cliffhanger with the case set to continue next year in the midseason premiere. What made you decide to make it a continuing storyline?

Todd Harthan: When our wonderful director Nancy Hower read the script, it was originally just a one-partner, and admittedly a little long, and she goes, “Oh, what if we added some more twists and turns, another red herring, and really expanded this?” Because what she identified was the DNA of this episode was so different than how we started the season with the Game Maker. The tone of it was more fun. It was more Thomas Crown Affair. We were introducing a character, a consultant-turned-suspect, that Morgan was going to be drawn to in a mysterious way, which also felt worth sort of extending in a delicious way. So it was just one of those things that happened in real time, and then we got Aiden, who is a wonderful actor, to play the part. It was one of those things where it just started to make sense, and once we knew we were going to leave the audience wanting more, that was a deciding factor.

Morgan connects with this art dealer, Rhys, and it’s the first time we’ve seen her have a romantic entanglement since Tom (JD Pardo) in Season 1. Should fans buy into the potential she has with this guy, or is it a fleeting thing, considering he’s seemingly a criminal?

Well, I think when we were looking for someone to play this role, we didn’t want someone smarmy. We needed somebody who was charming, smart. What would Morgan be drawn to? So, again, it’s sort of like The Thomas Crown Affair because it really was sort of the seed of inspiration for this, and you think about Pierce Brosnan in that movie; he was just almost too hard to resist. And so we needed to find that actor who had that level of confidence and charm without it being arrogant, and [Aiden]’s like that in person too. He just has a natural easiness about him when he walks into a room. And so that translated to the fictional character he’s playing.

You’ll see in the premiere next year that not everything is as it seems. It certainly feels like this guy is the guy, but there are some things coming that are going to really make Morgan go, “Wait, is he a criminal?” Lots of people have scars, and is it a coincidence? We’re going to play with all those elements in the premiere. And I think the finish is super surprising in the second part. You have to wait and see, but he was wonderful and they had great chemistry, and we’ve been very fortunate [to have] our pick of really amazing actors.

Steve Howey in 'High Potential'

Building off of that, Morgan is torn over who the painting belongs to, especially since it was stolen in the past as well as now. Is that going to continue to play into the case?

Yes, a hundred percent. It’s a through line that carries into the second hour, and I think if we’re going to set something up like that, the history of that painting, the importance of it, who it originally belonged to, it’s not a ball you want to drop.

Captain Wagner reveals that he knows the LAPD is investigating Roman’s whereabouts. How will that impact Soto’s forward movement with that case, especially after Karadec’s threat to Wagner that he isn’t allowed to mess with Morgan on that end?

Well, one of the things we’re playing with Wagner is, is he an ally or an enemy, right? Because we toggle in every episode. You’re like, “Wait, is he here to have our backs or is he going to stab us in the back?” And I think that’s a question we want to ask until we get to the back half of the season. That’s the question Soto is asking herself, which is, he’s in the know, does that mean he’s going to be the wind at our backs and help us, or is he going to out us or impede the investigation? Shut it down? He has the power to do that, so what role will he play? And those are the things we’re unpacking in an interesting twisty turny way when we come back.

As the Roman mystery continues to unfold, will Arthur and Ava play a more active role, as we saw them plotting a team-up?

Yeah, Mekhi’s been awesome, and he’s infused into the back half of the season as we sort of continue to unpack more and more about what happened to Roman all those years ago. And for Ava, she’s her mother’s daughter, there’s just no way for her to lie her head down at night and not be thinking about now that she knows her dad’s out there somewhere and he is alive, where is he? So it’s hard to contain that drive. And even Morgan’s going to struggle with it in the back half of how do I help us? And mostly, she’s doing this to get answers for her daughter. How do I help us get those answers, but not put her in a situation that is dangerous? We’re playing with all those different complications in the back half.

Karadec’s words to Wagner are interesting. Will they be adversaries moving forward?

In the back half, those guys are oil and water, and they just can’t agree on anything when it relates to how they work with and manage Morgan, their approach to law enforcement, and just their ideologies in life in general. They just could not be more different. That’s fun to write to because one of them says the sky is blue, and the other one is like, “No, it’s not, and here’s why.” And that really starts to fuel tension, conflict, all the things that we want. Karadec’s a protector by nature, and it’s less about protecting himself. This is his department, these are his people, and he feels like they’re kind of being threatened on some levels. So he’s sticking his neck out in the back half. He really is. He’s saying some things, some truth to power that could really get him in trouble, but it’s been fun to watch and fun to write to.

Morgan continues to push boundaries. Is that going to come back to bite her at some point?

She gets burned, and she gets burned in a major way in the back half. It all comes to a head, and we have a wonderful episode that we just shot, kind of built around that. But I think the fun thing about Morgan is she’s never going to change. She’s not going to suddenly show up and be like, “Okay, I’ll follow all the rules to the letter.” She’s just going to get better at how she goes about it. But yeah, it gets crazy and messy pretty early on in the back half.

‘High Potential’ Exclusive Sneak Peek Gives Morgan and Ava Update After Fight About Roman

by jummy84 October 21, 2025
written by jummy84

Can Elliot (Matthew Lamb) get his mom Morgan (Kaitlin Olson) and sister Ava (Amirah J) talking after their fight about Roman on High Potential? Well, he’s starting to plant the seeds for just that in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the Tuesday, October 21, episode.

In the clip, Elliot wakes Morgan up to show off his Halloween costume. “A sassy friar?” she guesses. “A science friar?” After he explains who he is, he notices the backpack on the bed and asks about it. “Let’s just say it’s the reason your sister and I aren’t exactly talking right now,” Morgan says. “What’s she doing? Is she still up, too?”

Elliot tells her, “She’s barely come out of her room since you grounded her. I think you should talk to her.” Though Morgan, at first, declines to take that advice, she does eventually cave, but she also has to be happy when work calls so she can continue to put that off. Watch the full video above for more from Morgan and Elliot — and a “special guest” offering an opinion.

In this episode, aptly titled “Chasing Ghosts,” as Halloween approaches, the team investigates a spooky case where a wealthy lawyer is found dead in his haunted Victorian mansion. Captain Wagner (Steve Howey) surprises everyone with his skills. Plus, Elliot plays mediator between Morgan and Ava.

The backpack in question in our clip above belonged to Ava’s father, Roman, whom Morgan has been trying to track down. Ava had convinced Roman’s friend, Arthur (Mekhi Phifer), to give them the bag so Morgan can look through it and see if it can help. Morgan wasn’t happy about Ava following her to her meeting with Arthur, but her daughter argued that Morgan’s the same way. Morgan then told her she’d decide how much she’d involve Ava in the stuff with her dad until she could trust her again. It was after Ava walked off that Morgan found Roman’s bag on her front step.

What’s your theory about Roman? Let us know in the comments section below.

AIIMS Raipur orthopaedic surgeon shares real reason for middle-aged man’s frozen shoulder: ‘Sugar levels were sky high’

What does diabetes have to do with frozen shoulder – a debilitating but normally temporary condition that is characterised by an extended period of pain and stiffness in your shoulder? In an October 14 Instagram video, Dr Dushyant Chouhan, an orthopaedic surgeon from All India Institute Of Medical Sciences, (AIIMS) Raipur, discussed the connection between frozen shoulder and diabetes. Also read | Shoulder pain: Causes and treatment

Frozen shoulder can be an early indicator of diabetes, and a simple blood sugar test can reveal underlying issues.(Shutterstock)

He shared a case study to illustrate the importance of body awareness and symptom observation in detecting major illnesses – and explained how a seemingly ordinary case of shoulder stiffness turned out to be an early warning sign for diabetes.

In the video he posted, Dr Chouhan shared that the patient initially sought treatment for severe frozen shoulder symptoms, including pain that disrupted sleep and difficulty with basic tasks like combing hair. However, the doctor realised the patient also exhibited other signs, such as frequent urination, excessive thirst, blurred vision, and tingling in the extremities, which are classic symptoms of diabetes.

What were the man’s symptoms?

Upon testing, Dr Chouhan revealed the patient was found to have severely elevated blood sugar levels, confirming a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus, suggesting the shoulder problem was a secondary issue. In the video he posted, Dr Chouhan said in Hindi, “I am sharing with you a very interesting and useful piece of knowledge about how you can become aware of your body and detect serious illnesses in your body. A patient had come in with shoulder pain. The pain was so severe that it would wake them up at night. They could not lift their hands up. They had difficulty combing and buttoning. All these problems were present. Seeing this, we understood that they have the problem of frozen shoulder. Frozen shoulder means that the capsule of your shoulder gets jammed.”

He further said, “But along with this, the patient had other issues too. Such as frequent urination, frequent desire to drink water, slightly blurry vision, and tingling (numbness) in the hands and feet. So, all these symptoms are of diabetes. Meaning, people who have the disease of sugar (diabetes). When I got them tested for HbA1c and a sugar test, the levels were quite high. They had come to me for a shoulder ailment, but their main problem was diabetes mellitus, meaning the disease of sugar. The point is that retrospectively — by catching hold of a small symptom — we discovered a major illness. So, if you also have a shoulder problem, you can consider whether you might have diabetes.”

‘Body’s early whisper that diabetes had arrived’

Dr Chouhan added that 30 to 40 percent of frozen shoulder cases are associated with diabetes mellitus and advised people, especially those with pre-existing diabetes, to be proactive with shoulder exercises and diabetes management to prevent frozen shoulder.

“Furthermore, in 30 to 40 percent of cases of frozen shoulder, diabetes mellitus is certainly found. That means those who have diabetes mellitus may have the problem of a frozen shoulder, or those who have frozen shoulder may have the problem of diabetes. So, if you are already a sugar (diabetic) patient and taking medicine, you need to be extra careful that you do not develop frozen shoulder in your shoulder later. For this, you should do shoulder movements beforehand, take medicines, and control your diabetes (sugar) so that you can avoid a major problem in the coming time, which is frozen shoulder,” Dr Chouhan said.

He wrote in his caption: “A middle-aged patient walked into my clinic, complaining of shoulder stiffness and pain for months. He thought it was just ‘age catching up’. But something didn’t add up — the pain was out of proportion, and the shoulder had almost frozen. When I dug a little deeper and advised a simple blood sugar test, the results surprised him… and even him more than the pain — his sugar levels were sky high. That’s when it clicked: the frozen shoulder wasn’t just a shoulder problem — it was his body’s early whisper that diabetes had quietly arrived. Sometimes, our joints tell the story before the sugar does. If your shoulder suddenly becomes stiff and painful without injury — don’t ignore it. It might be your body’s way of warning you.”

Candace Owens Loses Bid To Enter Australia For Speaking Tour After High Court Upholds Government’s Visa Denial Over Extremist & Inflammatory Comments’

Australia has given #CandaceOwens a big fat “No, thank you.”

The controversial far-right commentator has lost her legal battle to enter #Australia after the nation’s highest court upheld a government decision to deny her a visa. Her application was previously rejected in October 2024 by the Home Affairs Minister over concerns that Candace’s presence could “incite discord in the Australian community.” They argued that Candace had made “extremist and inflammatory comments towards Muslim, Black, Jewish and #LGBTQIA+ communities,” which could generate controversy and hatred.

Candace’s legal team fought back, appealing to the High Court. However, the court’s unanimous decision backing the ban means Candace will not be able to proceed with her planned speaking tour across Australia and #NewZealand. In addition to the visa denial, she’ll also have to pay the government’s legal costs.

8. The sibling rivalry was just as real off-screen as it was on-screen for Ashley and Lucas…at least at first. “We were not close. We were not good friends…we hated each other,” Ashley admitted during a video she recorded with Lucas for her YouTube channel. Lucas added that the pair “didn’t get off on the best foot” when they started filming the first movie, but eventually became close friends. How fabulous!

9. In an interview with Buzzfeed, Lucas revealed he pushed for Ryan’s sexuality to be explored early on. “After reading the script, the first thing I said to [Kenny Ortega] was, ‘OK, Kenny, Ryan’s gay, right? I know it’s Disney Channel so I’m not really gonna be gay, but I mean, yeah, right?’ And he’s like, ‘Well, think of it this way: You have the opportunity to play a character who’s young, he’s into theater, he’s an artist and let’s go at it from that point of view,'” Lucas explained. “He talked to me about his own life and he was like, ‘I see a lot of myself in Ryan. Yeah, I knew I was gay in high school, but I didn’t tell anybody.’ It was about making it real.”

Cardiologist warns artificial sweeteners stealing years from your brain: ‘62% faster cognitive decline with high intake’

Several health studies have linked the consumption of sugar with many diseases. A 2022 Harvard Health report states that consumption of added sugar leads to higher blood pressure, inflammation, weight gain, diabetes, and fatty liver disease, which are in turn linked to an increased risk for heart attack and stroke.

Most people swap sugar for artificial sweeteners, believing they’re the safer choice. But new research is sounding the alarm. (Freepik)

Scared of these alarming effects of sugar consumption, many people swap it with artificial sweeteners. But are they any better? Did you know your sweet tooth could also be causing ageing in your brain?

Are sweeteners speeding up your brain’s ageing?

In an Instagram post shared on September 11, Dr Sanjay Bhojraj, MD, an interventional cardiologist and functional medicine doctor, highlighted the fact that sweeteners may be harming our brains and explained how they cause brain ageing. He wrote, “Small swaps today. Stronger brain tomorrow.”

Dr Bhojraj explained, “Most people swap sugar for artificial sweeteners, believing they’re the safer choice. But new research is sounding the alarm.”

He cited a neurology study conducted with 12,000+ adults and pointed out: “Could artificial sweeteners be stealing years from your brain? Researchers observed clear patterns in cognitive health. This isn’t just about replacing sugar. I’ve seen this story before: choices that look harmless end up silently costing health and longevity.”

Harmless choices silently cost health and longevity

The cardiologist warned, “Artificial sweeteners can disrupt metabolism, interfere with the gut-brain connection, and add long-term stress to your cardiovascular and cognitive systems. What feels like a safer choice today may quietly accelerate decline tomorrow.”

Additionally, he highlighted several facts associated with sweeteners that prove that they are harmful to the brain. Here’s what the expert said:

  • High sweetener intake was linked to a 62 percent faster cognitive decline
  • Equivalent to 1.6 years of accelerated brain ageing
  • Strongest impact on people under 60 and those with diabetes

He added, “The good news? Longevity isn’t about luck – it’s about making smarter decisions based on science, not shortcuts.”

Future’s 'DS2' Brooklyn Ballet Celebration Was Hip-Hop In High Art

Future’s ‘DS2’ Brooklyn Ballet Celebration Was Hip-Hop In High Art

by jummy84 September 23, 2025
written by jummy84

I watched history unfold at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) on Friday (Sept. 19), and let’s just say trap music never looked more regal. Grand Marnier and multi-platinum rapper, Future, transformed BAM’s historic Howard Gilman Opera House into a stage where Hip-Hop, ballet, and high fashion collided in celebration of his 2015 album Dirty Sprite 2.

DS2 Remixed: The Ballet was curated to perfection as a one-night-only spectacle reimagining Future’s triple-platinum album, through the lens of Emmy Award-winner Ebony Williams’ choreography and LaQuan Smith’s couture designs. As a Black woman who’s never stepped foot in a ballet recital — or could hardly name more than one Black ballerina beyond Misty Copeland — I felt emotional watching a stage filled with world-class Black and brown ballerinas breaking the invisible traditional barriers of classical dance.

The production saw album classics like “Real Sisters,” “Trap Ni**as,” and “I Serve the Bass” paired with pliés, pirouettes, and a few sophisticated twerks, as the ballerinas moved with much grit and grace. Backed by a live orchestra and Future’s right-hand man, DJ Esco, the night struck the perfect balance of elegance and bass.

When Future took the stage for hits like “Commas” and “Rich $ex,” the BAM transformed into a trap cathedral. His performance in the airy theater created an atmosphere that underscored the fact that Hip-Hop can be high art and worthy of existing beyond the clubs and charts — and in more opera houses.

“I was excited to be a part of this project because it represented everything I love about choreography—honoring tradition while breaking boundaries,” Williams told VIBE. “When Grand Marnier approached me, their vision immediately resonated with my own: blending a strong classical foundation with bold, unexpected layers.” Having worked with Beyoncé, Doja Cat, Rihanna, and countless others, Williams made it clear that her goal was “to honor the structure and discipline of ballet while infusing it with the energy and rhythm of Future’s music, the balance of respecting tradition without being confined by it.”

That truth was made clear by Misty Copeland, who sat front row, embodying the moment’s weight. The legendary and exceptional Black ballerina radiated pure joy and admiration as she witnessed more minority dancers furthering the evolution of classical dance.

Grand Marnier

Although The Ballet was a one-of-a-kind event, Hip-Hop’s flirtation with “classy” spaces didn’t start with ballet. Rappers have been claiming sophisticated stages for years, like when A Boogie wit da Hoodie flipped the script with Audiomack’s Trap Symphony series and Big Sean linked up with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

Even Chief Keef made headlines in 2018 with a viral performance accompanied by live strings. Common graced stages alongside orchestras from Chicago to Houston. Gucci Mane once transformed his Road to 1017 concert into a symphonic journey, while JAY-Z performed with full orchestras at Carnegie Hall and London’s Royal Albert Hall. Kendrick Lamar’s 2015 Kennedy Center performance remains a blueprint, with Jeezy, Killer Mike, and Rick Ross all venturing into orchestral territory since.

Most recently, Clipse took the stage at the Vatican. Yes, thee Vatican.

And the list doesn’t stop there. Nas, Cypress Hill, Pharrell, will.i.am, Nelly, Wyclef, Migos, Metro Boomin, Ye, and countless others have rightfully claimed space in classical realms, while collectives like The Illharmonic Orchestra and The Hip-Hop Orchestra Experience have been pushing this fusion forward for years.

Then there’s Trinity Joy, the Detroit native famously known as the “Trapperina,” who has taken TikTok by storm with her inventive “Trapllet,” a collision of ballet and trap music that has captivated millions. Her viral videos, including one where she pirouettes and krumps to GloRilla and Cardi B’s “Tomorrow 2,” prove that the next generation is already living at this intersection of Hip-Hop and classical dance.

A girl who once called herself a “ballerina from the ghetto who dances to Durk’s music” is now leading a movement that refuses to be boxed in by tradition.

The recent shift of rappers seeking visibility beyond Madison Square Garden and stadiums raises a deeper question: Why? Now, we’re not here to critique the answer, but it does spark a conversation about the desire to belong or the need to prove the genre’s worthiness in these traditionally “highbrow” spaces. One thing is clear, though: Hip-Hop is every bit as much high art as anything else gracing those stages.

What I witnessed at BAM wasn’t just entertainment or another marketing ploy (because there’s a lot of that happening), it was reclamation. The evening showed just how much Hip-Hop belongs in every corner of culture, from the block to the ballet. Seeing Future’s DS2 reimagined with pointe shoes and couture was proof that our music and our stories will always elevate and demand a place in spaces that once said “no.”

On this night in particular night, that “no” turned into a standing ovation.

Karan Johar Gets Relief From Delhi High Court in Personality Rights Case

by jummy84 September 18, 2025
written by jummy84

Filmmaker Karan Johar has secured significant relief from the Delhi High Court after raising concerns about the misuse of his image, voice, and name on social media without consent. The court affirmed that his personality rights would be protected and directed major tech companies, including Google, Meta, and X, to provide relevant information. Meanwhile, the e-commerce site Redbubble has been ordered to take down content deemed objectionable, with the court promising a detailed order at the next hearing.

Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora clarified that “Defendants 14, 15, and 16, which comprise the social networking companies Google, Meta, and X, will supply IT log records in addition to Basic Subscriber Information details.” The court also summoned other online platforms like Giphy and Pinterest (defendants 2-5 and 7-10) as part of Johar’s main lawsuit. Summons for the remaining defendants, including Redbubble and the social media giants, will be considered at the next hearing, as they were primarily impleaded for compliance purposes.

The court indicated during proceedings, “In the IA (interim relief application), I will pass a detailed order. Injunction to be granted.” Counsel for Redbubble confirmed they would begin removing infringing material within a week. At the previous hearing, the court had asked Johar to provide a precise list of URLs or posts that required action and to clarify the types of content, such as whether they were defamatory, obscene, or misleading.

Karan Johar

This development comes amid a series of recent decisions by the Delhi High Court protecting celebrity personality rights. Similar orders were recently passed in favour of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, where the court noted that the unauthorized use of their images, voices, and names through technologies like AI constitutes a violation of privacy. The Johar case reinforces the judiciary’s stance on safeguarding individuals against misuse of their digital persona.
