Heavy Song of the Week: Lamb of God’s “Sepsis”

by jummy84 October 3, 2025
written by jummy84

Heavy Song of the Week is a feature on Heavy Consequence breaking down the top metal, punk, and hard rock tracks you need to hear every Friday. This week, we highlight Lamb of God’s new single “Sepsis.”

This is sludgy for Lamb of God and an effective change of pace — quite literally — for the Richmond, Virginia vets. Mark Morton’s riffs are bruising at this slower pace, the bass tone is filthy, and Randy Blythe reaches to a deep register that has him bellowing like a heavy metal Nick Cave. Aside from a brief blasty bit, they maintain this crushing mid-to-slow tempo — like something Crowbar would play — and wear this style well. The track also serves as Lamb of God’s tribute to the underground scene from whence they came, referencing numerous Richmond bands in the lyrics.

“’Sepsis’ is a celebration of the very underground local bands here in Richmond that we really admired when we were just forming Burn the Priest,” stated Morton. “Bands like Breadwinner, Sliang Laos, and Ladyfinger—though they never got widespread attention outside of Richmond, those were the bands we listened to all the time. The song references that stuff in a way that’s a direct line to where we were coming from when we were in the basement writing our earliest material together.”

Honorable Mentions:

Morbikon – “Heavens That Burn and Eons Divided”

Morbikon, led by Municipal Waste’s Phil “Landphil” Hall, are set to drop their sophomore album Lost Within the Astral Crypts on November 21st. “Heavens That Burn and Eons Divided” is the LP opener and a fiery four-plus minutes of blackened thrash with a rock n’ roll tilt, courtesy of Landphil on the guitar. There’s a casual looseness to his shredding that often gets eschewed for over-technicality in this type of metal.

Show Me the Body – “Sabotage”

In some ways, the Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage” laid the groundwork for Show Me the Body’s style of rock-influenced hip-hop. The latter definitely applies more of a modern hardcore edge to their music, but when Julian Cashwan Pratt swings his banjo behind his back and steps up to the mic, rapping over heavy bass riffs, there’s definitely some sonic parallels at play. Hearing them actually cover “Sabotage” drives the comparison home. The band is obviously privy to how well their treatment works, as the cover was already a setlist staple before being recorded in the studio.

SPEED – “AIN’T MY GAME”

Aussie hardcore outfit SPEED are darting up the ranks, garnering a valued support slot on Turnstile’s tour with Amyl and the Sniffers and Jane Remover. Honestly, they might be the heaviest band on that bill, as heard on their new single “AIN’T MY GAME.” Massive metal-riffy hardcore with breakdowns galore and anger-fueled vocals of the NYHC vein, this is sure to get the crowd in a frenzy for Turnstile and company.

The Pearl Jam frontman has been running his own California-based festival since 2016, and was joined by his backing band, The Earthlings, to headline the festival’s first night.

It marked the first time in two years that he and his Earthlings bandmates – who include The Frames‘ Glen Hansard, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and former RHCP guitarist (and current Pearl Jam touring member) Josh Klinghoffer, Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney and guitarist Andrew Watt – have performed onstage together.

To mark the occasion, they delivered a cover-heavy set alongside some Pearl Jam classics, kicking off Friday night’s (September 26) gig with a cover of DEVO’s ‘Gut Feeling’ before launching into Pearl Jam’s ‘Corduroy’.

After storming through tracks like ‘Setting Forth’ and ‘No Ceiling’, both played for the first time in years, they covered The Who’s ‘I’m One’ and jammed to the intro of Led Zeppelin’s ‘The Song Remains the Same’ ahead of playing ‘Rearviewmirror’.

Eddie Vedder at Ohana Festival 2025 played:

‘Gut Feeling’ (DEVO cover)
‘Corduroy’ (Pearl Jam song)
‘I’ll Be Waiting’
‘Long Way’
‘The Dark’
‘Setting Forth’ (first time since 2017)
‘Far Behind’
‘No Ceiling’ (first time since 2019)
‘Brother the Cloud
‘I’m One’ (The Who cover)
‘Watch Outside’ (Mono Men cover)
‘Lukin’ (Pearl Jam song)
‘Chad-O’
‘Rose of Jericho’
‘Fallout Today’
‘Save It For Later’ (The Beat cover)
‘The Song Remains the Same’ (Led Zeppelin cover)
‘Rearviewmirror’ (Pearl Jam song)
‘Isn’t It A Pity’ (George Harrison cover)
‘Porch’
‘Rockin’ in the Free World’ (Neil Young cover)

Other covers of the night included The Beat’s ‘Save It For Later’, Mono Men’s ‘Watch Outside’ and George Harrison‘s 1970 track ‘Isn’t It A Pity’, with Vedder rounding things off with Neil Young’s ‘Rockin’ in the Free World’, a longtime favourite of Vedder’s, which saw Stereophonics’ Kelly Jones and saxophonist King join him on stage.

As for Pearl Jam, they embarked on a US tour in support of their latest album, ‘Dark Matter’. The record scored a four-star review from NME last year, with Liberty Dunworth writing: “For those longing for the charismatic songwriting that first put the band on the map over three decades ago, ‘Dark Matter’ will come as a pleasant surprise.”

“Not only does it showcase Pearl Jam reclaiming the charm that first made them a force to be reckoned with back in 1991, it comes alongside some of their most impressive musicianship yet, as well as a determination to take risks after years of playing it safe.”

Heavy periods lasting over 8 days? Study suggests it may be linked to this

If you have seen any variation in your period’s pattern, one of the likely causes may actually surprise you. Turns out, the effects can last years!

Long COVID includes a set of symptoms that emerge after COVID-19 infection. It can last months or even years. Sometimes, the effects may be long-term, potentially altering bodily functions. A recent study published in Nature Communications, released on September 16, 2025, shed light on how long COVID impacts women’s menstrual health.

If you get more cramps during your periods, low magnesium may be one of the reasons.(Shutterstock)

Abnormal uterine bleeding

The latest study highlighted that women with long COVID were more likely to experience much heavier bleeding, longer periods, and even bleeding between cycles. According to the findings, long COVID patients are twice as likely to have their periods extend beyond eight days compared to women who did not get COVID.

In other words, if your menstrual cycle has changed over time, straying to an unusual bleeding pattern after COVID, it could be a sign of long COVID impacting hormonal balance.

Why does this happen?

The effects of COVID may linger in the body long after the infection, slowly altering bodily functions as well. It disrupts hormone levels and triggers inflammation. In women with long COVID, the uterus reacts less strongly to hormones, showing low progesterone receptor activity. The researchers suggest that this may happen due to increased androgen levels and changed endometrial inflammation. There were also signs of inflammation in the uterine lining. However, fertility is not directly affected, suggesting that the rest of the ovarian function is normal.

So, in other words, it offers an interesting perspective, acting as an extension of the understanding of long COVID’s usual symptoms, which are often restricted to fatigue, shortness of breath, and sleep problems. If your periods last over eight days, consider visiting a doctor to rule out underlying health conditions and learn how to make the cycle normal again.

“His influence on heavy music is timeless”

Tributes have been paid following the death of At The Gates frontman Tomas Lindberg.

The death of the 52-year-old Swedish singer was announced today (September 16) by former Opeth vocalist, David Isberg. He shared a collection of photos of Lindberg and wrote some of his lyrics in the caption: “It is cold out here/ And lonely is my journey/ I walk the trail of broken souls/ The darkest path through infinity.”

News of the passing was then confirmed by Arch Enemy guitarist Michael Amott. The two bands are closely tied as Arch Enemy drummer Daniel Erlandsson is the brother of At The Gates’ drummer, Adrian Erlandsson.

“I first met him when he was 15 and I was 18 — just two kids completely dedicated to underground music,” Amott wrote. “Life took us in different directions, but we’d bump into each other from time to time. Reconnecting properly in 2019 when we toured together was really special. Today we’ve lost one of the true OGs of the Swedish death metal scene.”

Lindberg had been diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma – a cancer of the mouth and pallet – in December 2023, but did not publicly share the news until this year. Last month it was revealed that the diagnosis had worsened, and he was “being closely monitored around the clock” (via Louder).

In his statement that he penned back in March but didn’t make public until August, he said that 2025 had “been a very tough year” due to the health issues, and that he would be undergoing “some form of chemotherapy to keep the cancer in check”.

Among those paying tribute is Opeth frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt, who shared, “It’s with overpowering shock that I write this, having just received the news that he has passed on.” He went on to recall his time meeting Lindberg in the ‘90s and being “blown away” by his performances.

“Tomas, my friend. You were a pioneering musician. A fantastic frontman and singer. A lovely human being! You’ve always had my endless respect. A respect that will flow effortlessly, even now that you’re no longer with us.”

Peaceville Records took to X/Twitter to share: “We extend our condolences upon hearing of the passing of At The Gates’ Tomas Lindberg, our deepest sympathies to those near & dear. Greatly gifted writer, fiercest of vocalists making an indelible mark on Death Metal forever, gone too soon to ‘join with the pulse of the universe’.”

Japanese band MONO shared a picture with Lindberg and wrote: “We’re saddened to hear about the passing of Tomas Lindberg from At The Gates today. When he curated Roadburn Festival in 2019, he kindly invited us to perform and we became friends. Thank you for the love, and our sincere condolences go to his family and loved ones. ATG forever.”

This is terrible news. Tomas Lindberg was an A-1 indisputable metal icon and legend w a perfect voice. A crust punk that changed the entire landscape of heavy music. Lindburg co-founded the Swedish metal pioneers At The Gates with guitarist Alf Svensson in Gothenburg in 1990 after the breakup of their previous band, Grotesque. They shared their debut EP ‘Gardens Of Grief’ in 1991 and debut album ‘The Red In The Sky Is Ours’ the following year.

Their sophomore album, ‘With Fear I Kiss The Burning Darkness’, arrived in 1993, and that same year saw Svensson replaced by guitarist Martin Larsson. This line-up released ‘Terminal Spirit Disease’ in 1994 and ‘Slaughter Of The Soul’ in 1995, before splitting up in 1996.

Lindberg then performed with other groups including Disfear, Skitsystem, and Lock Up, and reunited with At The Gates in 2007 to release a further three albums, with the last arriving in 2021. Outlets including Louder report that he completed recording vocals for another album with the group before his death.

Outside of music, the singer also worked as a social studies teacher to English-speaking students, and joked in a 2014 interview that his students were not fans of his band. “They are not into heavy metal music but they are aware of what I do,” he told Cryptic Rock.

“They see the Facebook likes and the YouTube hits. My students are actually about 80 percent Muslim immigrants and they are not into the music, but they think it is cool.”

Sydney Sweeney’s tennis necklace at Emmys features a massive diamond so heavy that it might ‘bruise when you wear it’

The Emmy Awards were a starry affair as always, with stars arriving on the red carpet dressed to the nines. However, instead of their luxurious gowns, the jewellery stole the spotlight during the awards night. Especially, Sydney Sweeney’s glittering diamonds.

In a September 15 Instagram post, jewellery influencer Julia Chafe highlighted the luxurious details about Euphoria actor Sydney Sweeney’s diamond jewels, which she wore to the Emmys. Julia offered a humorous commentary, speculating about the carat weight of various pieces, including a tennis necklace, earrings and rings.

‘The most painful jewellery’

In the video, Julia highlighted that Sydney wore all Lorrainne Schwartz jewellery to the Emmy Awards 2025. She pointed out that the actor wore a tennis necklace, two gigantic diamond rings on each hand, and the largest pear-shaped diamond earrings she had ever seen. She also exaggerated the perceived weight of the diamonds, suggesting they are so large they would be “painful” to wear.

Going into the details of Sydney’s jewels, Julia said, “I thought Selena Gomez’s engagement ring was going to be the size of this Marquise diamond. You know, the size of diamond that bruises you when you wear it, because Sydney Sweeney’s Emmy’s jewellery is the most painful I’ve seen in a while.”

The massive Marquise diamond

Julia pointed out that although she didn’t have the exact carat weights for the jewels, the tennis necklace might be made up of ‘3 carat diamonds, maybe more, maybe less.’ As for the Marquise diamond shining right in the centre, it weighs in pounds, not carats.

She quipped, “[Sydney] also had to wear two gigantic diamond rings on each hand because if she only wore one on one hand, she would tip over that way. And something I bet you didn’t notice. The largest pear-shaped diamond earrings I’ve ever seen. Ow is all I have to say. Literally ow. There is nothing I like more than painful jewellery.”

Gurgaon man with ₹26 LPA but ₹15000 monthly savings wonders if he chose wrong wife: ‘I’m tired of heavy lifting’

For a relationship to be successful, equality in roles is considered an important building block. However, this equality sometimes does not manifest itself in familiar ways. If one partner brings in financial stability, another makes sure the family stays healthy and provides emotional wellness. But because the roles are so different, they might often start putting the importance of one above the other.

Divided opinions arise online regarding a man’s financial strain as the sole breadwinner.

Wanted: a more ambitious partner

Recently, on Instagram page Humans of Pregnancy, an Indian man shared his dilemma when faced with a similar issue. He mentioned that despite a good salary package, he is unable to save much as his wife doesn’t work, leaving him as the sole bread-winner of the family. He wonders, therefore, if he made a mistake while choosing a not-so-ambitious wife.

The man titled the post, “I’m financially burdened, I wish my wife was ambitious.’ He said he was a 34-year-old senior software engineer working with PayU in Gurugram and shared how his annual salary of ₹26 lakh, which might seem substantial on paper, leaves him struggling to manage expenses and save for the future.

After deductions, his monthly take-home is about ₹1.75 lakh. According to him, most of it is consumed by rent, bills, school fees, and EMIs, leaving him with only ₹15,000 at the end of each month. “It feels like I’m constantly gasping for air. How am I supposed to save anything with ₹15,000 left?” he said.

The man, who lives with his wife and young daughter in Sector 56, listed his monthly costs: ₹40,000 rent, ₹30,000 for groceries and utilities, ₹16,000 car EMI, ₹20,000 sent to his parents in Ranchi, and nearly ₹50,000 for his daughter’s education, clothing, and other needs.

His frustration, however, is not just with money but also with his wife’s lack of professional ambition. The wife, 30, dropped out of her MBA midway and hasn’t worked since their marriage seven years ago. “Initially, I thought it was fine. I assumed she’d do something eventually, maybe a course or a business from home. But now, six years into parenthood, there’s no plan, no ambition, not even a hobby,” he said.

While he acknowledged that his wife is a good mother and takes care of their daughter, he admitted to feeling resentment when comparing their situation to other dual-income couples. “I look at my bank balance mid-month and wonder if I can even afford a short vacation just to breathe,” he added.

The engineer said he sometimes wishes he had married someone “with drive, someone who wanted more from life than just settling down.” He described the pressure as exhausting: “I’m tired of doing all the heavy lifting—emotionally, financially, mentally. And it’s super tough and tiring.”

Reactions from internet

People on the internet were divided over his situation. Some thought that perhaps the wife was burdened by domestic chores and could not find it in her to join the workforce as well.

“Do you contribute to household chores and taking care of your daughter? Ask her to work only if you do these as well,” read a comment. Someone else aksed why his expenses were so high. “40k rent for a 2BHK ! And 50k for daughter ! You are not poor but it’s simply ‘Lack of management of funds’.”

A person also warned the man of other expenses that will crop up if the wife goes to work. “If your wife starts working please be prepared for this … Day care or nanny expenses. Cook expenses. Other house hold chores additional help expenses like dusting, folding clothes, utensils stacking etc etc. Be prepared for managing each other’s office times and plans…. Forget about vacations as it’s almost difficult to get leaves on same time to go on vacation as family…. Be prepared for sudden childcare holidays as child will get sick and not everytime she will get leaves….. Be ready to help her equally in all child and house related things which maids can’t do….. Emotional baggage is another topic…. List is long…”

Another said he needs to communicate better with his partner, “My point is… For any relationship to work… Communication is very important. I think you should talk to your wife about how you feel. But just so you know… Both parents working is a huge task, and you’ll have to give your all in the house too. If you are ready for that… Go talk to your wife.. Ask her what she wants… Make a plan.”

“Men n women should discuss this clearly before marriage. Sometimes by the time you have ur second child, your parents are retiring and suddenly you see 5 people dependent on that single man. It could be extreme stressful for him, this pressure. But don’t understand why couples don’t discuss such things before getting married or before deciding to have kids,” wrote another person.

What should someone in this situation do then?

The most obvious answer is often the right one. In this case, the man should have an honest discussion with his wife. He should tell her all about their financial situation, and much worse it could get without a concrete plan. Together, they should weigh the pros and cons of her joining workplace. Will it help? Will it make things worse? What can he do to make the transition easier in case she does decide to take on a job somewhere?

A true partnership is built on open communication and flexible roles, taking on fewer or more responsibilities as and when life and situations demand it.
