Haq box office collection day 4: Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi’s Haq was released in theatres on Friday, and has seen a rise in its box office performance in the first weekend. The film was met with a positive response from fans, with word of mouth spreading rapidly over social media. Haq is inspired by the life and legal battle of Shah Bano Begum, whose landmark 1985 case led the Supreme Court to grant divorced Muslim women the right to maintenance.

As per the latest update on Sacnilk, Haq showed a slight dip on Monday, and managed to collect ₹ 1.00 crore, as per early estimates. The dip is expected on a working day, and yet Haq has shown momentum at the box office. The total collection of the film now stands at ₹ 9.95 crore. The film had a decent opening on Friday and showed 100% growth on Saturday. Sunday was also met with similar growth.

Yami reacted to the organic growth of the film because of the hype created by the good reviews. She said on her X account, “The power of ‘Word of mouth’ .No foul-play or any gimmicks. Straight from our hearts to the audience. Even from trade & media perspective, I feel a lot of positivity that they want a film like ‘ HAQ’ to be a success. It’s a rarity & I shall cherish this moment for life (folded hands emoticon)”

About Haq

Haq revolves around Shazia (Yami Gautam), a homely, uneducated woman who marries Abbas Khan (Emraan Hashmi), a successful advocate. One day, out of the blue, Abbas brings home a second wife. Not long after, he ends their marriage through triple talaq. Shazia’s legal fight for her rights forms the rest of the film. Haq, directed by Suparn S Varma, also features Vartika Singh, Danish Husain, Sheeba Chadha, and Aseem Hattangady in prominent roles.

The film is inspired by the life and legal struggle of Shah Bano Begum, whose landmark case in 1985 led the Supreme Court to grant divorced Muslim women the right to maintenance. The Madhya Pradesh High Court had dismissed a petition filed by Shah Bano Begum’s daughter, seeking a stay on the release of the film.

‘Give Her a National Award,’ Say Fans As Yami Gautam Dhar Shines in Haq

by jummy84 November 9, 2025
written by jummy84

Yami Gautam Dhar’s latest release Haq has earned her overwhelming praise from fans and reviewers alike. In the film, she plays Shazia Bano, a character inspired by Shah Bano, bringing to life a woman torn between faith, justice, and personal truth. Yami’s calm intensity and layered emotions have left viewers deeply moved, with social media filled with messages calling her performance ‘career-best.’
At the film’s Mumbai premiere, even the paparazzi joined in the celebration. A viral video showed photographers cheering for the actress, shouting, “Agle saal milenge National Award pe!,” a rare and heartfelt moment of appreciation that reflects the audience’s sentiment.
Online, fans have echoed the same emotion. One user wrote, “Yami deserves National Award for this performance.” Another said, “Just give @yamigautam the National Award for #Haq. Too good, career best performance.” The excitement only grew with comments like, “If there is no National Award for #YamiGautam for #HAQ, then National Awards need to be shut for good.”

Reviewers too have highlighted Yami’s nuanced portrayal. One review noted, “As Shazia Bano, the woman hurt and angered by her husband’s betrayal, yet someone who holds on to her dignity, Yami Gautam Dhar is excellent, keeping flashy histrionics in check even in the climactic monologue.”
Fans have also compared her to legendary actress Shabana Azmi, known for portraying strong women caught between emotion and principle. Like Azmi’s iconic roles, Yami’s Shazia combines vulnerability with quiet strength.
With films like Vicky Donor, Uri, Bala, and Article 370, Yami has proven her range over the years. But Haq seems to mark a turning point, a performance that could redefine her career. As audiences continue to chant for her National Award, it’s clear that Yami has delivered something truly special.

HAQ has found universal love among audiences across the country, and the numbers are expected to jump another 100% from Saturday’s collections.

HAQ is showcasing similar trends to Vikrant Massey’s 12th Fail, an authentic film that performed excellently after strong word of mouth and positive reviews began pouring.

Directed by Suparn Varma, HAQ stars Emraan Hashmi, Yami Gautam Dhar and it also features Vartika Singh making her debut with the film and powerhouse performers Sheeba Chaddha, Danish Hussain, and Aseem Hattangady. Audiences have been reacting positively to the movie. The initial reactions for the movie opened up about the strong plot and intense performances from Emraan and Yami. During an exclusive interview with Filmfare, Yami said, “Today, we’re having larger conversations about these things, and that’s a good thing. The kind of roles being written for women are evolving, and audiences are welcoming. Audience never discriminates. I feel like a small part of this ever-evolving phase of cinema.”

Our reviewer gave the movie 4.5 stars. He commented, “Haq is a reminder that clarity, reason and moral courage can indeed be cinematic. Watch it for its sincerity, for its grace, for its argument but above all, watch it for the performances that give this battle a beating, breathing human heart. And watch it because it believes that the Indian woman, regardless of faith, deserves the Constitution as her shield, not the mercy of men.”

Union Minister Deems HAQ As Bold, Calls It Close to Reality

by jummy84 November 7, 2025
written by jummy84

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has refused to stop the release of the film Haq, dismissing a petition filed by Shah Bano’s daughter. The court said the movie carries a clear disclaimer stating that it is a dramatized and fictional interpretation inspired by the 1985 Shah Bano Supreme Court judgment, not an exact biography of any real person. The judge also noted that details related to the case are already part of the public record, and once information enters the public domain, privacy over it no longer applies.

In the midst of this, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal reacted to the film, saying Haq brings forward what really happened during the Shah Bano case and also reveals how the Congress leadership at that time engaged in appeasement politics. His comments have added a fresh political edge to the film’s release, especially as it touches upon one of the most debated legal and social moments in India’s history.

The court further observed that the petition was filed at the eleventh hour, even though reports about the film’s script, shooting and teaser had been out for months. Since the petitioner did not first challenge the censor certificate, the court found no reason to interfere and dismissed the plea.

Haq, starring Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam is releasing tomorrow. Directed by Suparn S Varma and backed by Junglee Pictures in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios, the film explores a powerful real case that led to a landmark judgement by the Supreme Court. The censor board has cleared the film with zero cuts, granting it a UA certificate. It has also received a UA certificate from censor boards in the UAE, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

BREAKING NEWS: Madhya Pradesh High Court Dismisses Petition to Restrain The Release of HAQ

by jummy84 November 6, 2025
written by jummy84

BREAKING NEWS: Madhya Pradesh High Court Dismisses Plea by Shah Bano Begum’s Daughter Against Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam Dhar’s HAQ.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has dismissed a petition to restrain the release of HAQ, starring Yami Gautam Dhar and Emraan Hashmi. Directed by Suparn S Varma, the film is inspired by the landmark judgement of the Supreme Court on Mohd. Ahmed Khan v. Shah Bano Begum case, in which the Supreme Court ruled in favour of providing maintenance to divorced Muslim females.

The petition against HAQ was filed by Shah Bano Begum’s daughter, Siddiqua Begum Khan, who argued that the filmmakers could not have made such a film and depict such events without taking consent from Shah Bano’s family or heirs. She had stated that she had inherited her late mother’s reputational rights after Bano’s death.

Justice Pranay Verma at the Indore Bench of the High Court rejected the arguments, holding, “Privacy or reputation earned by a person during his or her lifetime extinguishes with his or her death. It cannot be inherited like a movable or immovable property.”

The court also accepted the filmmaker’s stance that HAQ is “inspired” by the landmark case. It is fictional and the disclaimer that states the same is also a part of the movie. “Since the disclaimer itself states that the same is dramatization and is fictional and an adaptation of a book and is inspired by a judgment of the Apex Court, it cannot be said that the contents of the film are fabricated. Since the film is an inspiration and a fiction, some amount of leeway is certainly permissible and merely because the same is done, it cannot be said that there has been any sensationalization or false portrayal,” the Court said.

In its final verdict, the Court also noted that the film is stated to be largely inspired from publicly available court records. “Once a matter becomes a matter of public record, the right of privacy no longer subsists and it becomes a legitimate subject for comment by the Press and Media amongst others. The same is precisely the fact situation in the present case,” it said.

HAQ

Additionally, the Court also accepted an argument by the filmmakers that the petitioner had an alternative approach of heading to the Central government for revoking or suspending the censor certificate granted by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), instead of coming to the Court directly.

Insomnia Films (a producer) was represented by advocates HY Mehta, Chinmay Mehta along with Chandrajit Das, briefed by Parinaam Law Associates. Junglee Pictures was represented by Senior Advocate Ajay Bagadia and advocate Ritik Gupta along with advocate Jasmeet Kaur, briefed by Anand Naik & Co.

Directed by Suparn Varma, HAQ stars Emraan Hashmi, Yami Gautam Dhar and it also also features Vartika Singh making her debut with the film and powerhouse performers Sheeba Chaddha, Danish Hussain, and Aseem Hattangady. It explores themes of the Uniform Civil Code, Triple Talaq, and gender equality before the law. Written by Reshu Nath, produced by Junglee Pictures, in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios, HAQ is set for a worldwide release on 7th November 2025.

Haq Movie Review: Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi Excel in This Compelling Film

by jummy84 November 5, 2025
written by jummy84

The real case that inspired Haq stems from the landmark Shah Bano judgment of 1985, a legal earthquake that redefined how India understood women’s rights, secular law and religious identity. When a divorced Muslim woman sought maintenance under Section 125 of the CrPC, the Supreme Court ruled that the Constitution’s promise of equality was not contingent upon personal law. This ruling forced India to confront a hard question, whether justice could be selectively interpreted based on religion, and whether a Muslim woman was entitled to the same dignity, respect and protection as any other woman in this country. Haq, based on Jigna Vora’s book Bano: Bharat Ki Beti, reinterprets that battle for contemporary India, where these same arguments still quietly simmer under political speech, domestic space, and cultural caution.

In the film, Yami Gautam Dhar plays Shazia Bano, the fictionalised Shah Bano figure, and her performance is the spine of Haq. She plays Shazia not as a symbol, but as a woman who has lived, loved, hurt, doubted, questioned, and yet stands to fight. There is restraint here, but also ferocity, an emotional fluency that never slips into artifice. Her courtroom scenes have a rare clarity. She fights not with chest-thumping melodrama but with lived conviction. The shifting weight in her shoulders, the hesitations in her voice, the quiet with which she absorbs pain, all of that adds a truthful fragility beneath her courage. It is easily one of Yami’s strongest, most commanding screen turns.

Emraan Hashmi, as Abbas Khan, is equally compelling, playing a man shaped by privilege, belief and inherited power structures. He is not painted as a cardboard bigot; he is someone who has never questioned the script handed to him, and that is what makes his downfall tragic instead of theatrical. The more he clings to his ego, the more the system crumbles beneath him. Vartika Singh, as the second wife, leaves a striking impact. She is not reduced to glamour; her arc is empathetic, sensitive, and beautifully textured. Her confrontation moment opposite Yami is one of the film’s most emotionally loaded scenes. And Sheeba Chaddha, as the supporting lawyer on Yami’s side, injects gravity, wit and an unwavering steadiness; she knows exactly how to play strength in silence. Danish Hussain too makes an impact as Yami’s supportive father.

Much of this impact works because the writing is sharp, intelligent and deeply internalised. Reshu Nath’s screenplay understands the emotional minefield of faith versus constitutional rights without turning the narrative into an academic lecture. She builds conflict through spaces of doubt, lived contradiction and internal bias, not just external provocation. And Suparn S Varma’s direction keeps the storytelling grounded and balanced. He refuses sensationalism, he resists easy villainy, and he allows silences to speak. His directorial hand ensures Haq is not a polemic, it is a lived human drama.

While a more non-linear structure could have given the story even greater depth, what Haq achieves is still powerful, it centres the Indian woman’s agency over her life and her choices, irrespective of religious identity. It reminds men that responsibility cannot be abandoned through doctrine. It highlights how law must protect the vulnerable without fear. Haq calls for empathy not uproar.

Haq is a reminder that clarity, reason and moral courage can indeed be cinematic. Watch it for its sincerity, for its grace, for its argument but above all, watch it for the performances that give this battle a beating, breathing human heart. And watch it because it believes that the Indian woman, regardless of faith, deserves the Constitution as her shield, not the mercy of men.

The trailer of Haq, starring Yami Gautam Dhar and Emraan Hashmi, dropped on Monday (October 27), offering a stirring glimpse into a powerful story of faith, justice, and identity. Directed by Suparn S Varma, the film draws inspiration from the landmark Shah Bano case — a judgment that reshaped India’s legal and social discourse on women’s rights and personal law.

At its heart, Haq is a gripping courtroom drama that goes beyond legal proceedings to explore deeper themes of belief, equality, and truth. Yami Gautam plays Shazia, a woman whose relentless fight for justice defies both societal norms and systemic constraints. Her courage to challenge injustice ignites a national conversation on women’s autonomy and faith. Opposite her, Emraan Hashmi portrays her husband — a lawyer who becomes her unexpected opponent in court. Their legal battle doubles as an emotional and ideological clash, testing the boundaries of love, conviction, and identity.

The trailer captures an emotionally charged atmosphere filled with fierce exchanges, thought-provoking dialogue, and layered performances. At the launch event, Yami Gautam said, “This story moved me deeply. It’s not just Shazia’s fight — it represents countless women who’ve been told to stay silent. It takes just one voice to make a difference.”

Echoing her sentiment, Emraan Hashmi described Haq as “a warzone of ideas, faith, identity, love, and justice colliding all at once — powerful, provocative, and deeply human.”
