Hannah Einbinder Slams AI Creators As “Losers”

With the fifth and final season of Hacks taking on Hollywood once again, Hannah Einbinder has some thoughts about the role artificial intelligence plays in the industry.

The 4x Golden Globe nominee recently slammed generative AI creators as “losers” who are “trying to rob real creatives” as she tore into the tech trend that continues to divide Hollywood during a press conference for the HBO Max show.

“The people who make this stuff are losers,” she declared, according to SlashFilm. “They’re not artists. They’re not creative. And they’ve wanted their whole lives to be special. And they’re not special.”

Einbinder added, “They’re trying to rob real creative people of our gifts. And you can’t. And even if you try, you will never be cool. You guys suck. No one likes you. Anyone who’s near you is because they crave power and access over any ethical standard. You are a loser. You will never be cool. And you probably had a rolly backpack in high school. I wanna put your head in the toilet and flush.”

Jen Statsky, who co-created the series with Paul W. Downs and Lucia Aniello, agreed that in attempting to make the creative process “easier” with AI, creatives will suffer while execs continue to profit.

“I wish that I believed that it was in better hands, but I don’t,” said Statsky. “And until there’s guardrails put on, until there is some stoppage mechanism to make sure that we are protecting the humanity both in art and people’s livelihoods, it ain’t good.”

Season 5 of Hacks premieres April 9 on HBO Max, reuniting Einbinder’s Ava Daniels with comedy icon Deborah Vance (Jean Smart), who plans to sell out Madison Square Garden with her first stand-up show after being legally barred from performing over breaking her late-night contract.

Hannah Beachler to Receive Variety’s Creative Impact Award at SCAD

Oscar-winning production designer Hannah Beachler will be honored with Variety’s Creative Impact in Production Design Award at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival.

Beachler made history when she became the first African American to take home a trophy in the production design category for her work on “Black Panther.” She has been Ryan Coogler’s go-to, with the two working on “Fruitvale Station,” “Creed” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” together.

“SCAD is delighted to partner again with Variety to present the Creative Impact Award to the extraordinary production designer, Hannah Beachler,” said Christina Routhier, senior executive director of the SCAD Savannah Film Festival. “Her work on ‘Sinners’—from the haunting juke joint to the textures of the Mississippi Delta—roots the film in authenticity while elevating the story into something otherworldly. The choices she made demonstrate the power of production design to shape narrative and deepen the cinematic experience. For our SCAD students in production design, film, and television, her artistry is an inspiring example of bold, innovative world-building, and we are thrilled to celebrate her contributions to moviemaking.”

“Hannah’s work is extraordinary. On behalf of Variety, I am thrilled to partner with the team at SCAD Savannah Film Festival and to recognize her work,” said Variety’s senior artisans editor Jazz Tangcay. ”The Creative Impact Award celebrates someone who has made an impact in their field, and Hannah’s work has done just that. From building Wakanda to the Mississippi Delta in ‘Sinners,’ hearing her talk about her process and research is going to be such a gift for the students at SCAD. Hannah’s insight into her process will be a masterclass, and will be an exciting morning.” Tangcay continued, “This is the first time we have awarded the Creative Impact in Production Design, and what better place to do it than in Savannah, and to present it to Hannah and celebrate her incredible career.”

Beachler will receive this award during the SCAD Savannah Film Festival which will run from Oct. 25 through Nov. 1.

Presented by the Savannah College of Art and Design, the SCAD Savannah Film Festival is filled with cinematic creativity from award-winning professionals and emerging student filmmakers. Each year, more than 63,000 people attend the eight-day festival. A distinguished stop on the road to the Academy Awards, the annual festival kicks off with a gala opening night screening, while the rest of the week features scheduled competition films, premiere screenings, workshops, lectures and panels. These events take place at SCAD’s historic theaters and industry-leading studio spaces throughout the historic city of Savannah, Ga.

As previously announced, Jon M. Chu will receive the Vanguard Director Award and Jennifer Lopez will receive the Virtuoso Award.

Variety’s chief awards editor Clayton Davis will also be returning to host the “Pixels and Pencils” panel.

What Did John Oliver, Hannah Einbinder Say When Bleeped at Emmys 2025

For an awards show hosted by clean comedian Nate Bargatze, who avoids using foul language in his stand-up sets, the 2025 Emmys featured a surprisingly high number of f-bombs.

The CBS telecast of Sunday night’s awards ceremony had its sound cut out multiple times for home viewers as a number of winners peppered their acceptance speeches with curse words.

At one point, Bargatze even joked, he was going to start a swear jar.

So what did those bleeped winners say? Read on to find out.

Hannah Einbinder

The Hacks star won best supporting actress in a comedy, her first Emmy for her work in the fourth season of the Max series, and ended her speech with some pointed political remarks. While her “free Palestine” cry is getting attention, prior to that she also declared “Fuck ICE,” calling out the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency that’s been particularly active during Donald Trump’s second term, as the president has pushed for massive deportations of suspected illegal immigrants.

John Oliver

The Last Week Tonight host continued his Emmys winning streak, nabbing his third consecutive trophy in the scripted variety series category after his HBO show was recategorized. When he took the stage to accept his award, Oliver spoke fast, seemingly in an attempt to get his full speech within the allotted time, after Bargatze had declared that long speeches would deduct money from a charitable donation to the Boys and Girls Club.

“Fuck you, Nate Bargatze, that is a lot of money for you!” Oliver said, as he neared the end of his remarks. “And you can add a ‘fuck’ to the swear jar as well.”

Erin Doherty

The Adolescence actress, who won for best supporting actress in a limited series, praised her award-winning colleagues Owen Cooper and Stephen Graham and her family members before thanking the Television Academy, saying to the awards organization, “you’re all fucking stunning.”

Seth Rogen

Rogen won multiple awards on Sunday night, but it was when he won his final prize of best comedy series for The Studio that he colorfully expressed his regret for taking so much money away from Bargatze’s donation (not to worry, the host announced at the end of the show that the organization would receive a $350,000 donation after all).

After sharing his gratitude for all of the love shown to The Studio, Rogen joked, “If anyone else wants to say something, we’re already in debt. We fucked over the Boys and Girls, so.”

The 2025 Emmy Awards have come and gone, and it was a memorable and historic night for television. The Studio broke the record for the most Emmys won for a first season for a comedy series, while another freshman series, The Pitt, took home the top honor for dramas.

Comedian Nate Bargatze served as first-time host and revived a Saturday Night Live sketch that helped put him on the map. There were more historic wins and powerful speeches throughout the evening, such as Hannah Einbinder‘s acceptance speech which had people searching for what was censored.

The evening was also full of TV cast reunions from shows such as Gilmore Girls, Everybody Loves Raymond, and more. Here, we break down the highlights of the night, from the funniest bits and biggest surprises to snubs and the best reunions.
