Rod Wave Arrested on Fir*arm & Dr#g Charges in Atlanta the Same Day He Earned His 1st Grammy Nod

Rod Wave Arrested on Fir*arm & Dr#g Charges in Atlanta the Same Day He Earned His 1st Grammy Nod

Rod Wave was arrested in Georgia on dr*g and weapon charges on the same day he received his first-ever Grammy nomination, according to Fulton County jail records and a statement from his attorneys. The 27-year-old rapper, whose real name is Rodarius Green, was taken into custody in Atlanta on Nov. 7, 2025, and booked into the Fulton County Jail. He was released the following day after posting an $8,000 bond.

Jail records show Green is facing four charges: possession of a fire#rm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit a felony, reckless driving, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance — one listed as Schedule II and one as Schedule V.

In a statement to multiple outlets, Green’s legal team criticized the circumstances of the arrest, saying the rapper “was unjustly profiled and unlawfully arrested in Atlanta.” They alleged the arresting officer is part of the Atlanta Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit, which they described as “a group known for its aggressive tactics and emphasis on high arrest numbers rather than genuine public safety.” The attorneys further called the arrest “a quota-driven approach” and said they intend to challenge it.

The arrest came just hours after Rod Wave earned his first Grammy nomination — in the category Best Song Written for Visual Media for the track “Sinners,” from the 2025 film of the same name. Despite his legal issues, he is still scheduled to launch “The Redemption Experience Tour” in December, beginning in Los Angeles.

This is the rapper’s third arrest in Georgia in 2025, following earlier incidents in May and June, though his attorneys have previously maintained his innocence in those cases.

7 Takeaways From the 2026 Grammy Nominations

by jummy84 November 9, 2025
written by jummy84

The nominations for the 2026 Grammy Awards got announced today. Leading the field is Kendrick Lamar, and Lady Gaga and producers Jack Antonoff and Cirkut trail closely behind. There are newcomers—such as Best New Artist nominees Addison Rae and Leon Thomas—and familiar faces, like Tyler, the Creator and Turnstile. Below, see a handful of takeaways from the nominations.

Grammy Nominations 2026: See the Full List Here

What Genres Are Tyler, the Creator and Turnstile?

When he won Best Rap Album, for Igor, at the 2020 Grammy Awards, Tyler, the Creator had some choice words for the Recording Academy. “It sucks that whenever we—and I mean guys that look like me—do anything that’s genre-bending or that’s anything, they always put it in a rap or urban category,” he told a Rolling Stone reporter after accepting the trophy. ““When I hear that, I think ‘why can’t we just be in pop?’ Half of me feels like the rap nomination was a backhanded compliment.”

Five years later and Tyler’s wish has finally come true—kind of. In addition to several nods—including Album of the Year and Best Rap Album—for 2024’s Chromakopia, he’s up for Best Alternative Music Album, for Don’t Tap the Glass, his homage to the dance styles of the 1980s. It’s an odd fit for a record that has far more in common with Beyoncé’s Renaissance than it does, say, Wet Leg, and does seem to reflect a limited imagination on the part of Grammy voters. The implication is that a career rapper cannot make a dance album, only an album that is alternative to the other music he has made in his career, are thereby still defined by it.

Turnstile are another act stuck in genre purgatory. The Baltimore hardcore outfit has three songs from Never Enough nominated in three separate categories: Best Rock Performance (“Never Enough”), Best Alternative Music Performance (“Seein’ Stars”), and Best Metal Performance (“Birds”). (The full-length is also up for Best Rock Album!) In Turnstile’s case, though, the spread cements a popular embrace, even by the most entrenched establishment types, that began in earnest with 2021’s Glow On. The only question left is when the Police will be able to claim their retroactive Best Metal Album Grammy for Zenyatta Mondatta.

2026 Grammy Awards nominations: Kendrick Lamar leads list of music contenders – National

by jummy84 November 8, 2025
written by jummy84

The list of nominations for the 2026 Grammy Awards has been revealed, and red-hot rapper Kendrick Lamar is leading the pack.

Lamar is up for nine trophies at the February ceremony: record, song and album of the year — marking the third time he’s had simultaneous nominations in those big categories — as well as pop duo/group performance, melodic rap performance, rap song and rap album. He’s also nominated twice in the rap performance category.

The Not Like Us rapper has 22 Grammy career wins and 66 nominations in total. His album GNX is his fifth consecutive studio album to be nominated for album of the year, something no other artist has ever done. If it wins, it will be his first win in the category. And it will be only the third rap album to win the top prize, following Outkast in 2004 for Speakerboxxx/The Love Below and Lauryn Hill in 1999 for The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

Lamar’s nine nominations for his album GNX are part of a wave of hip-hop albums competing in the top categories, including Tyler, the Creator’s Chromakopia and Let God Sort Em Out from Clipse, Pusha T and Malice.

Lady Gaga, Jack Antonoff and Canadian record producer/songwriter Cirkut follow Lamar with seven nominations each.

Cirkut is up for both record and song of the year, twice — for Lady Gaga’s Abracadabra and Rosé and Bruno Mars’ APT. — as well as album of the year and best dance pop recording.

Other top nominees include Bad Bunny, Sabrina Carpenter, Leon Thomas and Justin Bieber.

Bad Bunny’s Debí Tirar Más Fotos is only the second time an all-Spanish language album has been nominated for the top prize. This comes three years after Bad Bunny’s release, Un Verano Sin Ti, became the first Spanish-language album to earn a nomination in the album of the year category.

This year’s nominees were announced during a video livestream with a host of talent, including Doechii, Gayle King, Karol G, Lizzo, Mumford & Sons, Sabrina Carpenter, Sam Smith, David Foster, Chappell Roan and more.

Only recordings commercially released in the U.S. between Aug. 31, 2024, through Aug. 30, 2025, were eligible for nominations.

The Grammy Awards made a change this year to the best country album category, following Beyoncé’s historic win of best album and best country album at the 2025 Grammy Awards for Cowboy Carter. The category has now been divided into two, with the creation of a best traditional country album category. The existing best country album category has been renamed best contemporary country album.

The 2026 Grammy Awards will take place on Feb. 1 live from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. A host is yet to be announced.

Kendrick, Lady Gaga Top Grammy Nominee Field

Kendrick, Lady Gaga Top Grammy Nominee Field

by jummy84 November 8, 2025
written by jummy84

For the second year in a row, Kendrick Lamar is the top nominee for the Grammy Awards — this time in nine categories, including Album of the Year for GNX and both Song and Record of the Year for “luther” featuring SZA. The 68th annual edition of the awards will be held Feb. 1 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and broadcast live on CBS.

In Album of the Year, Lamar will compete against Lady Gaga’s MAYHEM, Bad Bunny’s DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, Justin Bieber’s SWAG, Clipse’s Let God Sort Em Out, Leon Thomas’ MUTT and Tyler, the Creator’s CHROMAKOPIA.

Thomas’ six nominations include Best New Artist, where he will battle Olivia Dean, sombr, Alex Warren, the Marías, Lola Young, Addison Rae and KATSEYE. Doechii earned five nods, including Record and Song of the Year for “Anxiety.” Producer Cirkut racked up seven nominations for his contributions to MAYHEM and ROSÉ & Bruno Mars’ “APT.,” which will vie for both Record and Song of the Year.

Tyler, the Creator, Clipse, SZA, producers Andrew Watt and Sounwave and rising underground rock band Turnstile all have five nominations. Bieber, Tyler Childers, Jesse Wells, Paramore’s Hayley Williams, Miranda Lambert and Chris Stapleton scored four a piece.

Although he wasn’t nominated for Producer of the Year — Non Classical, a category he’s won three times previously, Jack Antonoff becomes the first producer/songwriter to ever earn nominations in Album, Song and Record the Year with two different artists in the same year (Carpenter and Lamar).

In Best Rock Album, Deftones’ private music is nominated alongside Haim’s I Quit, Linkin Park’s From Zero, Turnstile’s Never Enough and Yungblud’s Idols. Best Rock Performance nominees include Amyl and the Sniffers (“U Should Not Be Doing That”), Linkin Park (“The Emptiness Machine”), Turnstile (“NEVER ENOUGH”), Hayley Williams (“Mirtazapine”) and Yungblud (“Changes” from the Black Sabbath farewell concert in July).

Bon Iver, the Cure, Wet Leg and Williams each also received multiple nominations in the Alternative categories, with Tyler, the Creator scoring an unusual Best Alternative Music Album nod for Don’t Tap the Glass, which was released just eight months after CHROMAKOPIA.

Elsewhere, Nine Inch Nails’ TRON: Ares banger “As Alive As You Need Me To Be” leads the Best Song Written for Visual Media field, which also features the inescapable “Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters and Elton John and Brandi Carlile’s documentary title track Never Too Late.

Why Blackpink Solo Members Are Not Eligible for Best New Artist Grammy

Why Blackpink Solo Members Are Not Eligible for Best New Artist Grammy

by jummy84 November 7, 2025
written by jummy84

The last year was a big one for Blackpink fans as each group member showed off their solo prowess by releasing excellent debut albums: Lisa delivered Alter Ego, Rosé gave us Rosie, Jennie released Ruby, and Jisoo shook things up with Amortage. Despite such a big year — especially for Rosé with “APT.” — many Blinks may be wondering why none of the girls earned nominations for Best New Artist.

The term “new” in the category title is key word here. The Best New Artist category recognizes “a breakthrough into the public consciousness and notably impacted the musical landscape” in the last year. The rulebook states that “any artist who had achieved a breakthrough in a prior eligibility period” is not be eligible for the award.

Since Blackpink is (without doubt) the biggest K-pop group in history, and has been for years, its members are ineligible for the category as solo acts. (Despite their massive appeal, the group has never earned a Grammy nomination.) According to Recording Academy rules, members of a group are considered part of that collective entity, meaning that any previous Grammy submissions made under Blackpink would also apply to each of its members individually.

Although it’s unclear how many times Blackpink or its members have been submitted for the Best New Artist award in the past, another limitation is “that an artist cannot have submitted for Best New Artist more than three times previously, whether as a new artist or as a solo artist who emerged from a group.”

At the 2026 Grammys, Blinks will be able to root for Rosé, who earned multiple nominations for “APT.” with Bruno Mars, including for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Duo/Grupo Performance. She’s the only member who received award nominations.

Trending Stories

While there were no nods for Blackpink (which released the superb single “Jump” in July) either, the 2026 Grammys will see great girl group representation. The Best New Artist category, for example, includes Katseye.

The Grammys have been slow in embracing the rise of K-pop. BTS has been mostly limited to the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category and has yet to win any trophies. This year, “Golden” from Kpop Demon Hunters made history for the genre, earning numerous nods, including Song of the Year.

Grammy award-winning R&B singer D’Angelo has died following a “prolonged and courageous battle with cancer,” his family said in a statement. He was 51.

“The shining star of our family has dimmed his light for us in this life,” according to a family statement. “After a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer, we are heartbroken to announce that Michael D’Angelo Archer, known to his fans around the world as D’Angelo, has been called home, departing this life today.”

“We are saddened that he can only leave dear memories with his family, but we are eternally grateful for the legacy of extraordinarily moving music he leaves behind,” the family statement added. “We ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time but invite you all join us in mourning his passing while also celebrating the gift of song that he has left for the world.”

The Untitled (How Does It Feel) singer, whose real name was Michael Eugene Archer, celebrated the 30th anniversary of his debut studio album Brown Sugar earlier this year. The platinum-selling album offering produced signature hits like Lady and the title track. The 1995 album earned him multiple Grammy nominations and cemented him as one of R&B’s most original new voices.

D’Angelo’s sultry vocal style became inseparable from the striking visuals of his 2000 single Untitled (How Does It Feel). The minimalist, shirtless music video became a cultural touchstone, igniting conversations around artistry, sexuality and vulnerability in Black male representation.

The song earned him a Grammy for best male R&B vocal performance and propelled his sophomore album Voodoo. topping the Billboard 200 chart and winning the Grammy for best R&B album.

Beyond his own catalog, D’Angelo’s artistry shined in collaborations. He memorably duetted with Lauryn Hill on the soulful ballad Nothing Even Matters, a highlight of her landmark 1998 album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. He also contributed to The Roots’ 1996 album Illadelph Halflife and was part of the supergroup Black Men United, which yielded one song: U Will Know, which D’Angelo wrote and co-produced, for the film Jason’s Lyric in 1994.

D’Angelo was partnered to Grammy-nominated R&B singer Angie Stone in the ’90s. The pair met while he was finishing Brown Sugar and bonded over their similar backgrounds: Both are from the South and both grew up in the church. Stone worked on the album with D’Angelo and the pair co-wrote the song Everyday for her 1999 debut album, Black Diamond.

He is survived by his daughter, Imani Archer and two sons, Morocco Archer and Michael Archer Jr., also known as Swayvo Twain.
