Lady Annabel Goldsmith has died.

Lady Annabel Goldsmith dead at 91

The 91-year-old socialite – who was a close friend of the late Princess Diana – has passed away, leaving her six children, including journalist and film producer Jemima Goldsmith and former Conservative MP Zac Goldsmith, “desperately saddened”, according to MailOnline.

Lady Goldsmith was the younger daughter of the 8th Marquess of Londonderry and Queen Elizabeth II attended her “coming-out” ball in 1952.

Goldsmith’s first husband Mark Birley famously named the Mayfair nightclub Annabel’s after her in 1963.

The couple married in 1954 and had three children Rupert, Robin and India Jane.

They were married for 21 years before Lady Annabel’s affair with Sir James Goldsmith.

She went on to marry Sir James in 1978 and they had three more children together, Jemima, Zac and Ben.

Just last month, she attended the wedding of her son Zac to Hum Fleming at St James’s Church in Longborough in the Cotswolds.

According to The Sun, she once joked that she was “an incredible mother, rather a good mistress, but not a very good wife”.

Lady Annabel was born Annabel Vane-Tempest-Stewart in London in 1934.

She was the daughter of Robin Vane-Tempest-Stewart, Viscount Castlereagh, who went on to become the 8th Marquess of Londonderry, and Romaine Combe, who was the daughter of Major Boyce Combe, from Surrey.

She took on the title of Lady Annabel in 1949 at the age of 15 when her father became Marquess on the death of his father.

She tragically lost both of her parents at a young age, with her mother dying of cancer in 1951 and her father passing away in 1955.

beam and the MIA (Meetings Industry Association) have announced that Stuart Goldsmith, internationally acclaimed climate comedian and speaker, will deliver a keynote at the ESG Summit on 15th September 2025, at Warwick Conferences.

Complementing the summit theme of championing responsible business in events, Goldsmith’s unique blend of sharp wit and powerful insight will address one of the most pressing issues of our time – the climate crisis.

Well known for his intelligent and thought-provoking stand-up, Goldsmith has performed climate comedy on the BBC’s Live at the Apollo, Conan in Los Angeles, and at leading global festivals. His 2023 solo show Spoilers won Best Show at Leicester Comedy Festival 2023, received five-star reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and was widely praised for its ability to confront sustainability with humour and hope.

Goldsmith’s work has featured across BBC News, Radio Times, and News UK, and he has appeared at leading sustainability events including the Net Zero Festival, Blue Earth Summit, and GreenBiz in the US. His performances engage audiences and alleviate our collective dread by using comedy to tackle a serious subject.

Louisa Watson, beam Chair, welcomes Goldsmith to the event line-up, commenting: “Stuart’s ability to combine comedy with such a serious and urgent topic offers a brilliantly refreshing way to inspire conversations and action. His voice will help lift the tone for a summit dedicated to shaping a more sustainable and responsible future for the events industry.”

Alongside Goldsmith’s keynote, the collaborative ESG Summit 2025 will feature content curated in partnership with isla, Greengage, event:decision, Circular Life, and Scopes Carbon. The programme features panel discussions, interactive breakout sessions, and best practice case studies designed to accelerate the industry’s progress towards embedding ESG as a core business strategy.
