Spice Girls questions were ‘triggering’

Victoria Beckham found being asked about her time in the Spice Girls “quite triggering”.

Victoria Beckham discusses her time in the Spice Girls in her docuseries

The 51-year-old star is the subject of a new Netflix documentary series, which is simply titled Victoria Beckham, and she found being interviewed about her girl band past “almost like therapy” because she has struggled with her time in the group overshadowing her fashion career.

She told the Sunday Times Style magazine: “I’ve been defined by a four-year period in my life. That was the Spice Girls.

“It’s taken me almost two decades to fight that and I feel that only now can I look back and talk about it. I’m not going to lie, being asked questions about when I was in the Spice Girls was quite triggering. And I’d say those were the most difficult moments. It was almost like therapy for me.”

However, Victoria insisted she is “so proud” of everything she achieved with the group and is still in contact with all her bandmates.

She said: “I love the Spice Girls. I really do. And it’s been great reflecting on that time. The other night I had dinner with Emma and Geri, and Mel B messaged me at the weekend. I still speak to all of the girls. I’m so proud of everything we did. I wouldn’t have been who I am now if it wasn’t for the Spice Girls, 100 per cent.”

Victoria – who has four children with husband David Beckham – was happy to speak openly in the series but admitted it was an emotional experience.

Asked if she said no to talking about anything, she said: “No. I mean, I touch on my family, I touch on the Spice Girls, the problems we’ve had with the business, you know, the money we’ve lost — there have been lots of triggers.

“I cried. Like I said, I haven’t seen the final edit, but yes, I did cry. It takes quite a lot to make me cry, but I did cry. You know, I’ve earned my place to show in Paris, I’ve earned the respect.”

The fashion designer agreed to her own documentary series after being pleasantly surprised by the response to her appearances in David’s own fly-on-the-wall programme.

She said: “If I’m being completely honest, I didn’t love me in that documentary…

“I was surprised by how positive the feedback was with what I brought to it. David’s documentary made me realise how good it feels to be wrong. I like being wrong. I was wrong, and bring it on. I love that.”

Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty is a renowned personality and is fondly called Anna, meaning elder brother. The actor once did a daring act of rescuing around four hundred girls in a human trafficking operation. The actor once opened up about it and spoke about his mother-in-law, Vipula Kadri’s involvement.

Suniel Shetty is a versatile actor who has made remarkable movies in the film industry. As he continues contributing to Indian cinema, he once shared the brave thing he did years back. He spoke about how the underworld was behind them for the rescue operation. Keep scrolling for the deets.

A Secret Operation Of Rescuing 400 Girls

In an interview with Zoom, Suniel Shetty got candid about the human-trafficking operation where he helped rescue 400 girls. He revealed that he and his mother-in-law used to run an NGO called Trafficking in India, but they changed it to Vipla Foundation later. His mother-in-law and other NGOs got together and took the initiative to rescue 400 girls. Shetty also explained that he never spoke about it because this could have been harmful, and these things happened with the highest level of confidential team, apart from the CM, and then the police commissioner.

Suniel Shetty Revealed The Real Hero Behind The Operation

Suniel Shetty said, “The only reason I’m speaking to you about this is because I know how to be put right, and the only reason I need to talk about it is also because I’m not the hero of this. I was a messenger, and yes, I did whatever that I did. After that, there were a lot of people who helped me manage this, but the credit belongs to unearthing this and everything and having the guts to do it was my mother-in-law.”

He continued, “For me to talk to you was only and only reason is that I’m not the hero. I was one of the character actors. The hero was my mother-in-law and her NGO and the other NGOs that supported her. The heroes were the Mumbai police and the officials who supported it.”

The Hera Pheri star shared that he was always working with his mother-in-law, who is an inspiring figure in his life. Shetty puts her on the same pedestal as his own mother. Suniel also revealed how the underworld was after them because of their bravery. He recalled, “We had the underworld after us after that, but we managed, thanks to good friends and the police and the department.”

Suniel Shetty recalled how Jet Airways came forward to help them in their initiative and gave a shout-out to Naresh Goel and his wife. He says one cannot forget the contribution of all these people to this great cause. The actor opened up about it 26 years later because he feels it is wrong to credit him alone for what happened back then.

On the work front, Suniel Shetty has Welcome to The Jungle and Hera Pheri 3 in the pipeline.

Boys vs girls: Who is more at risk of childhood cancer? Oncologist reveals prevention tips

Dr. Sudha Sinha shared that boys are more at risk of childhood cancer than girls. Know the tips to prevent childhood cancer.

Cancer is mostly associated with adults, but there is a type of cancer that can affect children as well. Childhood cancer, although rare, is on a steep rise all over the world. In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr. Sudha Sinha, Clinical director and HOD, Medical Oncology, Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad said, “While these illnesses are rare, they can be devastating for families. Boys are slightly more at risk than girls for developing certain types of childhood cancers.” Also read | Oncologist debunks 5 myths about childhood cancer: Is it always fatal?

Boys vs. girls: Who is more vulnerable?

“Cancers such as leukaemia, lymphoma, brain tumours, and neuroblastoma are diagnosed more frequently in boys. One exception is Wilms’ tumour (a type of kidney cancer), which is seen a little more often in girls,” the oncologist said.

Why this difference? The reasons are still being studied, but several factors may play a role:

  • Biological: Variations in immune system function and hormone regulation between boys and girls.
  • Environmental exposures: Boys may be more vulnerable to pollutants, toxins, or prenatal exposures.
  • Genetic influences: Subtle genetic variants might predispose boys to certain cancers, though evidence remains incomplete.

Can childhood cancer be prevented?

The doctor said that unlike adults, children usually don’t have lifestyle-related risk factors such as smoking or alcohol use. “However, environmental exposures, maternal health during pregnancy, and certain infections or conditions can influence risk. While not every cancer is preventable, families can take meaningful steps to lower risks,” Dr. Sudha Sinha said. Tips to prevent childhood cancer:

During pregnancy:

  • Avoid more than two cups of coffee daily (linked to higher risk of childhood leukaemia).
  • Eat a rainbow of fruits and vegetables daily; at least two servings of fresh fruits a day provide antioxidant protection for the baby.
  • Avoid frequent intake of grilled, barbecued, smoked, or deep-fried foods.
  • Take prenatal vitamins with folic acid as they can reduce the risk of leukaemia and brain tumours in children.
  • Avoid excess fatty meats and seafood, and refined vegetable oils (sunflower, soy).
  • Maintain a healthy weight and active lifestyle. Fitter mothers are more likely to have healthier babies.
  • Avoid alcohol and smoking (including passive exposure from family members).
  • Breastfeed if possible. Breastfeeding lowers the risk of childhood leukaemia by about 10%, and by nearly 20% when continued for six months or longer.
  • Choose clean, balanced nutrition with whole grains, lentils, nuts, and fresh home-cooked meals are safer than highly processed or oily foods.

For young children:

  • Encourage outdoor play and physical activity; limit screen time.
  • Guard against pesticide and chemical exposure at home and workplace.
  • Protect from air pollution (dense traffic zones linked with higher leukaemia risk).
  • Avoid unnecessary X-rays and CT scans.
  • Use sunscreen for outdoor activities.
  • Ensure early screening for siblings of children with hereditary cancers like retinoblastoma.
  • Monitor children with infections or genetic conditions (HIV, Down syndrome, Epstein-Barr virus) more closely.

Can young girls get PCOS before first period? Gynaecologist shares 4 early signs parents should watch for

by jummy84 September 17, 2025

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), which is a hormonal disorder, shows up in women of menstruating age. But can the signs occur even before a girl gets her first period? To confirm this, HT Lifestyle reached out to an expert.

Some risk factors make little girls more vulnerable to PCOS, even before their periods. (PC: Freepik)

ALSO READ: Nutritionist shares 4 tips on how women with PCOS can enjoy coffee without worsening symptoms

Consultant gynaecologist Dr Deepali Lodh, obstetrician and infertility expert at AIMS Hospital in Dombivli, shared that indeed, there’s a possibility of some early warning signs of PCOS that can appear even before their first period.

She said, “Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal condition that usually becomes more obvious after a girl starts menstruating. However, according to various studies as well, early signs may appear before the first period, often in late childhood or early puberty.”

Early signs of PCOS

PCOS is one of the most common hormonal disorders among young girls, but it can be managed with the help of a good lifestyle, like a proper diet and regular exercise, along with medical intervention. And the first step towards management begins by detecting the signs, and sometimes even before periods begin to occur, which indicates they are at high risk.

Dr Lodh shared these four signs parents need to watch out for in their daughters who are yet to begin their periods:

  1. Early puberty changes: Some girls will exhibit signs of puberty earlier than expected, such as breast development or pubic hair growth. These signs shouldn’t be ignored at all.
  2. Weight gain and obesity: Rapid weight gain, especially around the abdomen, can be a risk factor for future PCOS in girls. Don’t just attribute this weight gain to poor eating habits and the absence of exercise. It will need timely evaluation.
  3. Skin issues: Suffering from acne, oily skin, or dark patches on the neck and underarms (acanthosis nigricans) are some of the signs that a girl may have insulin resistance. This can further point out PCOS. So, stay vigilant!
  4. Excess hair growth: Unusual hair growth on the face, chest, or back (hirsutism) before menstruation can be caused by a hormonal imbalance that can be linked to PCOS.

Further, she mentioned the importance of parental intervention, as these are signs that, according to the gynaecologist, ‘cannot be ignored’, and prompt medical attention needs to be sought.

Genetic risk factor?

In addition to the visible signs, the young girl in childhood or early puberty, there’s also a genetic component to consider. Dr Lodh said, “A mother or sister with PCOS increases the chances of the child developing it later.” So if the mother or elder menstruating sibling has PCOS, they need to be more cautious, as the child is genetically predisposed to develop PCOS. This means regular monitoring of their hormonal health to reduce future risks.

To avoid these problems from escalating, Dr. Lodh recommended that young girls showing early PCOS signs focus on a healthy lifestyle, follow a nutritious diet, exercise regularly, maintain weight within a normal range, and manage stress with the help of yoga. If parents spot these signs, the gynaecologist reiterated that they should visit a doctor for tests, as, according to her, it is better to pay attention right from the beginning to prevent problems in the future.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of America are still benefiting from Nate Bargatze’s controversial Emmys bit

The Boys & Girls Clubs of America may end up being the biggest winner of Sunday night’s Emmy Awards. The afterschool youth programming nonprofit is now seeing a donation surge after a controversial fundraising bit at the center of television’s biggest night.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of America are still benefiting from Nate Bargatze’s controversial Emmys bit

Emmys host Nate Bargatze pledged $100,000 to the group at the top of the telecast — with a twist. The comedian then deducted $1,000 for every second that an acceptance speech exceeded the allotted time and added the same amount for every second under the limit. Boys & Girls Clubs children stood with the trophy holder for each announcement before retreating into the wings.

The charitable gag failed to restrain many winners. “Hacks” star Hannah Einbinder vowed “I’ll pay the difference” while accepting the award for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series. “We over the Boys & Girls,” comedian Seth Rogen said as the ticker plunged deeper into the negatives. With the show nearly over, the sum had fallen below zero to negative $60,000.

The Boys & Girls Clubs “were waiting to see the outcome in real time, like everyone else,” Lisa Anastasi, the organization’s chief development and external relations officer, said Monday in an email. They ultimately received what Anastasi called a “generous surprise”: $250,000 from Bargatze and $100,000 from broadcaster CBS.

“The number, I’ll be honest with you, was embarrassing,” Bargatze said before announcing the final amount.

And the nationwide nonprofit is still reaping the benefits. Donation totals have more than doubled compared to this time last week and its search interest is at a record high, according to Anastasi.

“The $350,000 donation will be incredibly impactful to our programs and in the lives of kids and teens who attend our Clubs,” Anastasi said. “But this moment was about more than the donation for us — it was also special because it placed our mission and our Club Kids on a national stage.”

Some viewers applauded the altruistically minded mockery of long-winded Hollywood elites. Not all in the worlds of entertainment and philanthropy were equally enthused, though.

A Variety columnist said the running joke turned artists’ moments of celebration into ones “they’ll remember for having been policed in the most sanctimonious and irritating manner possible.”

Generosity is not about gimmicks, according to fundraising strategist T. Clay Buck. In a LinkedIn post, he said “communities are not props” and “neighbors’ needs are not entertainment.”

“$100,000 is not a joke — it’s rent, it’s meals, it’s staff salaries, it’s futures,” Buck said. “And to cheapen that gift by making it conditional, transactional, or theatrical diminishes the very heart of giving.”

French Girls Have Confirmed T-Bar Flats Are Making a Comeback

by jummy84 September 14, 2025
written by jummy84

Having long-rejected the discomfort that comes from wearing heels all day and night, I’m always on the lookout for flat-shoe trends that feel just as elegant and polished. My wardrobe is already well stocked with ballet flats and loafers but just recently I’ve come across a new flat-shoe trend that keeps cropping up in the wardrobes of the most stylish French women.

Sleek, refined and innately smart, T-bar flats are closing in on me this season. Conjuring memories of the school shoes I once wore every day, this season’s iterations feel distinctly grown-up, although I must admit that the “back-to-school” energy makes them perfect for September styling.

Not a far cry from fashion’s favourite Mary Janes, the T-bar flat is defined by its extra strand of leather that creates the T-shape across the foot. While T-bar shoes may have slipped under the radar in recent years, I first spotted their return in the form of summer sandals and heeled versions earlier this year—a warm-up act, if you will, for the closed-toe style coming to the fore right now.

Influencer @vikilefevre wears a white jacket with a white skirt and white t-bar flats.

Of course, it’s no surprise the French have already claimed them as a staple. Their mix of comfort, elegance and quiet sophistication feels quintessentially Parisian—and more than reason enough for me to add them to my own rotation.

This autumn, I’ll be styling mine with everything from pleated skirts to easy, slouchy jeans. Scroll on to shop the T-bar flats to know about this season.
