Girlfriends’ Travis Mills and Nick Gross Want to Take You Back to the Old Neighborhood

by jummy84 November 5, 2025

“We had to get a death certificate,” says Travis Mills—one-half of pop-punk duo girlfriends, along with Nick Gross—over a video call from Studio City, about getting the rights to the social media handle that would bear the band’s name.

Before we get into that, however, let’s back up a bit.

Before girlfriends, Mills, who currently hosts The Travis Mills Show on Apple Music 1, had his own successful music career as rapper T. Mills, and dabbled in acting, starring in such shows as Ghosted: Love Gone Missing and Help! I’m in a Secret Relationship!

Gross, formerly the drummer for pop-rock band Half the Animal, and a successful entrepreneur, had recently joined the Los Angeles-based punk band Goldfinger before Mills messaged him on Instagram in 2019, asking him if he would be interested in starting a band.

Gross, who had played a show with Mills in 2015, invited him to his Los Angeles studio, The Noise Nest, to listen to music, talk about what inspired them, and brainstorm ideas for their potential musical collaboration.

“I didn’t go into girlfriends thinking this would be a pop-punk project at all,” says Gross, calling from Laguna Beach, California, where he was born and raised. “But when we first got in the studio to create songs, that’s when we knew immediately this was going to be a project that was this perfect blend of bands that we grew up listening to and using our past influences to bring what girlfriends was to life.”

After a couple of weeks of hanging out, the duo knew they needed a band name. Mills brought a list of five potential candidates to Gross. The first one was girlfriends. The second was Boyfriends.

“We went with the first one because it was the best band name of all time,” says Gross.

“I thought about how funny it would be to be on stage in Arizona or wherever and just be like, ‘Hey, what’s up, Arizona? We’re girlfriends, and it’s just two dudes on stage,’” says Mills, laughing.

Not to be confused with the all-female band the Girlfriends, who scored their only No. 1 hit in 1964 with “My One and Only Jimmy Boy,” or the emo-math rock project by Jerry Joiner.

“There was a TV show named “Girlfriends” as well,” Mills offers.

Gross points out that there was also an Atlanta nail salon with the same name that they had to contend with to be able to use the name on social media, and that’s where the death certificate comes in.

The @girlfriends Instagram page has been dormant since 2013, Mills says. After calling the shop to get permission to use their social media handle, they found out that there was a new owner who didn’t have access to the social media account.

“We’re like, ‘Cool, can you connect us to the previous owner?’ And they were like, ‘No.’ It was because the owner of the nail salon died,” says Mills.

Mills and Gross were instructed by Meta to get a letter from the new nail salon owner and, yes, the previous owner’s death certificate, to prove they had indeed died.

“It was this whole thing, but we got it,” says Mills.

After releasing their first two albums, girlfriends in 2020 and (E)motion Sickness in 2022, along with two EPs, the two are now celebrating their third album, There Goes The Neighborhood, which came out October 24. “It’s like the great unveiling of the last three years, so we’re pumped,” says Gross, his 95-pound Bernedoodle quietly sitting in his lap, out of camera shot.

Mills and Gross teamed up with friend, collaborator, and longtime Goldfinger frontman John Feldmann to produce the album. Feldmann, who’s co-written and produced for Korn, 311, Good Charlotte, and many other artists, is also the head of A&R for Big Noise Music Group, a music label, distributor, and recording studio founded by Gross.

The duo spent two and a half years working on nearly 60 songs before settling on the 16 tracks that make up There Goes The Neighborhood.

Mills says having Feldmann—who produced some of their favorite records growing up, like the Used’s self-titled debut album—collaborate on their new record made the process a much more cohesive one because of their already-established relationship.

“To have that kind of resume and that pedigree…he’s more than a friend, he’s a confidant for our band,” says Mills. “It’s really cool to not have to sit down in a room with someone who doesn’t know the history and thinks they’re going to give you something that really isn’t you. It’s like, let’s just get in the studio, pick up instruments, and see what ideas we have for the day.”

Before they had written any songs, Mills and Gross already knew the album’s title.

Mills says knowing that helped inform a lot of the record.

“The whole theme of the record is the neighborhoods that Nick and I grew up in,” Mills says. “It’s how we grew up. It’s where we grew up. It’s why we grew up the way that we did. I think there’s a nostalgia kind of baked into that…the first time you fall in love, the first time you sneak out, the first time you get your heart broken, the first time you realize that you have a best friend, the first time you realize your parents aren’t superheroes, and the first time you realize that life is kind of fucked up at times, and it’s not everything that you see in the movies or on television.”

Songs such as the anthemic “Garbage,” the guitar-driving “Landslide,” and the yearning-for-the-past “1999” reflect a return to form for the duo, an authenticity and trust-your-gut approach that, according to Gross, was somewhat absent during the making of their second record.

“The intention we brought into this record was to get into the studio every day, and whatever comes out of the studio from that day is what we’re going to live with,” says Gross. “I think for our second album, there was a bit of that overthinking and pulling too much from other places to influence what girlfriends really was and wanted to be.”

Mills says he hopes that when people listen to this album, it brings back the same kind of memories from childhood that it did for them when they were making it. He wants it to be a time machine, a vessel to transport listeners back to their younger selves, to that time of self-discovery. But, he notes, this album isn’t meant to be a bum-you-out type of record meant to leave you yearning for those simpler times in your life because being an adult sucks.

“We can miss these things, but it’s also pretty cool to see how far we’ve come,” he says. “The things that I dreamed about in my bedroom growing up, I’ve gotten to check a lot of that off my list, and it’s pretty surreal. When I think back to lying in my bed with posters on my wall, listening to my favorite bands, to then being able to go on the road with some of them and call some of them friends…the shit I thought would never happen, it happened. And that’s pretty rad.”

Ne-Yo Opens Up About 4 Girlfriends: “We Are In Love”

Ne-Yo opened up about being in a thriving relationship with four different women during a new interview. Sitting down with ABC News for a special, Impact x Nightline: Ne-Yo: My Four Girlfriends, the R&B singer explained how he and his girlfriends make their situation work.

“So, there’s a few titles that I guess make sense, but we don’t really rock with the titles,” explained the 45-year-old after co-anchor Juju Chang asked if she should refer to him and his partners as “polyamorous.” The Grammy-winner is currently dating Cristina aka PB (Pretty Baby), Arielle aka TF (Twin Flame), Moneii PF (Phoenix Feather), and Bri (Sexy Lil’ Somethin’).

“I’m in a relationship with four beautiful women. We are in love. We are a team. We are a unit,” he detailed. In February, Ne-Yo confessed to his non-traditional relationship on social media when he went from two girlfriends to three. Later that month, he went from three girlfriends to four.

In March, he shared how having multiple partners went beyond sexual gratification.

“I do partnership, not ownership,” he explained. “I don’t even want to own you. I want a partner in this situation. I don’t demand exclusivity or ask for it, nothing like that. If you offer it and I accept [then] there are rules to follow, but nothing is above a conversation as long as we’re being honest.”

“See, people get caught up on the sexual element of it. If the only reason you’re doing it is for the sexual part if it, you’re bound to fail.”

Impact x Nightline: Ne-Yo: My Four Girlfriends, premiered Thursday night (Oct. 2) on ABC and is now available to stream on Hulu and Disney+. Check out a 10-minute preview above.

Ne-Yo Says He Shares a Custom Alaskan King Bed With 4 Girlfriends He Calls “Wives” – But Admits None Are Legally Married to Him

After going through what he describes as a “very public, very ugly divorce,” Ne-Yo says he rethought his approach to relationships. “I realized that just through being dishonest, I hurt a lot of people,” he explained on Joe & Jada’s podcast.

Today, the R&B singer embraces a polyamorous lifestyle — saying he now shares his life with four women. “I’m currently in a polyamorous relationship. I have four beautiful ladies that move with me on the regular,” he shared.

Ne-Yo clarified that while he refers to them as his “wives,” he is not legally married to any of them. He described how this shift came about:

“I’mma keep it a buck with you. I was married before this, to one woman. Things didn’t go well. I made my mistakes. We got divorced, a lot of people got hurt in the process, and I told myself at that moment I ain’t lying to nobody about nothing ever again.”

Ne-Yo further explained how the polyamorous setup formed:

“I went, ‘Listen, you know I rock with you. I absolutely rock with you. But it ain’t just you.’ … ‘I also rock with her, and her, and her. So what I wanna do is bring this whole thing together.’ If you with it, let’s rock. If you’re not, that’s cool too. No love lost. You go your way and I go mine.”

He also addressed the logistics: all four partners live with him, sleeping on a custom-made Alaskan King bed — “like two California Kings next to each other” — a mattress “you gotta get … made.”

Ne-Yo introduced his four partners publicly in a March Instagram post, nicknaming them Cristina (“Pretty Baby”), Arielle (“Twin Flame”), Moneii (“Phoenix Feather”), and Bri (“Sexy Lil’ Somethin’”).
He’s said that all parties are honest, consenting, and up front about the setup. Reflecting on his past, he admitted:

“I feel like I wasted a lot of time just being dishonest about things, to the point where had I taken this approach initially, I could’ve saved myself a lot of headache and heartache.”

fellas, if you afford this lifestyle, would you consider this type of relationship?

Ne-Yo Shares An “Alaskan King-Sized Bed” With His Four Girlfriends

by jummy84 September 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Ne-Yo‘s unconventional love life apparently comes with an unconventional bed.

While recently live streaming with YouTuber Kai Cenat for his Mafiathon 3 series, the R&B star revealed he shares a custom Alaskan King-sized bed with his four girlfriends. “That’s like two California Kings next to each other,” Ne-Yo explained. “You gotta get that mattress made.”

The 45-year-old singer is currently in a polyamorous relationship with Cristina “Pretty Baby,” Arielle Hill “Twin Flame,” Moneii “Phoenix Feather,” and Brionna Williams “Sexy Lil’ Somethin’.” While he is not legally married, the “So Sick” crooner said he considers the women his “wives.”

“My love life is phenomenal,” he added. “I have four beautiful ladies that move with me on a regular.”

Ne-Yo first introduced his partners on Instagram in March, calling them his “pyramid.”

He has since said the relationship works because of their open communication style and clear boundaries. On The Angie Martinez Show, he explained that exclusivity was his girlfriends’ choice. “They came to me and said, ‘I want to be exclusive to you and just you,’” he recalled. “I said, ‘You understand that your exclusivity to me does not mean my exclusivity to you?’”

The singer, who divorced Crystal Renay Williams in 2023, said his only rule is honesty. “We’re not gonna lie to each other,” he said. “We’re not gonna sit up here and blow smoke.”

Is Cory Booker Married? Meet the Senator’s Fiancée & Past Girlfriends – Hollywood Life

Senator Cory Booker’s political career keeps him busy, but his personal life has often shared the spotlight. After a high-profile romance with actress Rosario Dawson, the New Jersey lawmaker announced his engagement to girlfriend Alexis Lewis in 2025.

He shared the news on social media on September 2, writing, “Alexis is one of the greatest unearned blessings of my life. She has transformed me, helping me to ground and center my inner life, and discover the joys of building a nurturing home with someone you love. I’m thrilled to share: Alexis and I are engaged!”

With the exciting update, learn whether Booker has ever been married before and more about his relationship history below.

Is Cory Booker Married?

No, Senator Booker is not married yet. He has never been married but announced his engagement to Lewis in September 2025.

He added in his caption, “I am savoring the soul-affirming wonder of everyday life with my partner, best friend, and now my fiancée. We are excited for this journey ahead, having so much fun, and feeling deeply grateful for the love, support, and energy so many of you have shared with us. We are truly blessed to be surrounded by such a beautiful community lifting us in love and commitment.”

Rosario Dawson

Booker was in a relationship with actress, producer and activist Rosario Dawson from 2019 to 2022. The couple even moved in together during Booker’s 2020 presidential run.

While speaking with The Washington Post in 2019, Booker recalled the moment when his and Dawson’s connection became clear. “I mean, gosh, that night we talked for hours and hours,” he told the publication. “I had trouble asking for her phone number … I think I said something really stupid like, ‘Uh, how would I get in touch with you?’ And she mercifully said something like, ‘Oh, you want my phone number?’ And my insides were like, ‘Hell, yeah!’”

That year, Booker also gushed about how “deeply soulful” Dawson is as a person while discussing their relationship with Ellen DeGeneres. “She is just a deeply soulful person and has taught me a lot of lessons about love already,” he said, per Ebony. “Sometimes you show the greatest strength when you make yourself vulnerable. She really has this nurturing spirit that’s made me more courageous, not just in the love I project and want to see in our country, but I think in our own personal relationships to love more fearlessly.”

For her part, Dawson praised Booker in an early 2021 Instagram post after he kept his senate seat. “So proud of and grateful for you my love. I got to vote for you here in New Jersey and am so glad that you overwhelmingly and rightfully won your seat again,” the Dopesick alum wrote at the time. “To know your leadership will continue to guide us with love, brilliance, patience, grace and effectiveness is the kind of representation and hope we need.”

Despite their breakup, Booker and Dawson have remained on good terms, and the actress has even kept photos of them together on her Instagram. After Booker announced his engagement to Lewis, Dawson showed her support by commenting on his post, “Love Love! Congratulations you two! ❤️❤️”

Cleo Wade

Before Booker dated Dawson, he was in a relationship with artist and Instagram poet Cleo Wade, Page Six reported in 2016. The former couple were spotted at various events together at the time.

Wade was a stylist for pop star Katy Perry, per Page Six.
