Happy Halloween – here’s Lankum’s haunting cover of The Specials’ ‘Ghost Town’

by jummy84 November 1, 2025
written by jummy84

Lankum have shared a haunting, creepy cover of The Specials’ 1981 classic ‘Ghost Town’ – check it out below.

The track will be released as a standalone 12” single via Rough Trade Records on January 30, with an elaborate etching on the B-side. You can pre-order your single here.

The Dublin experimental folk band originally covered the song as a contribution to Oona Doherty’s dance show ‘Specky Clark’ at London’s Sadler’s Wells Theatre earlier this year, and they have now unveiled a video for the eight-minute track, shot in County Wicklow and directed by Leonn Ward.

The single stays true to Lankum’s signature ‘folk drone’ style initially, with a crawling, insidious pace and discordant strings lending extra menace to the song’s legendary anti-Thatcherite lyrics, before it erupts into a cacophonous, electronic climax. Watch the video here:

Lankum have said: “’Ghost Town’ came to us through some curious circumstances. Oona Doherty, who we were familiar with through her phenomenal dance work on the video for Gilla Band’s ‘Shoulderblades’, contacted us and told us about a new show she was putting together. It was about her great-great-grandfather being sent to Belfast as a child to live with his aunts and work in an abattoir. She wanted a new piece of music for the show, for a party scene set on Halloween night, and told us she wanted it to start out indistinguishable and woozy, before developing into the very recognisable track by The Specials.”

“At first we were slightly reticent, since a cover of a ska tune wasn’t something we’d usually ever consider, but after a bit of deliberation we decided we’d give it a shot, and the result took us on an incredibly enjoyable journey that had us gleefully playing with synthesisers and drum machines in Hellfire Studios, trying to come up with the scaldiest 90s sounding techno for the outro section of the track.”

“We’re very excited with the end product and delighted that Oona approached us and challenged us to step out of our comfort zone. It’s an honour to be releasing a version of this iconic tune, and it feels eerily relevant to be referencing yet again themes of urban decay, economic hardship and working class frustration. Enjoy responsibly.”

Doherty added: “I was listening to Lankum and it inspired me to write this dance theatre play called ‘Specky Clark’ using a lot of their music. But for one scene which happens on Halloween night Samhain, I asked the band could they make me a cover of ‘Ghost Town’ by The Specials. And they bloody did. ‘All the clubs have been closed down’. I think this line still hits hard all these years later and in a dub accent speaks to housing crises, the poverty, the privatization of Ireland.  They also managed to make the track rip through this physical plane of existence and dance in the other world…. only Lankum can do that.”

Lankum released their fourth studio album ‘False Lankum’ in 2023, picking up Mercury Prize and Ivor Novello nominations. Guitarist Daragh Lynch told NME last year that the album’s success had been “very unexpected”, adding: “We spent the last four albums just really dedicating ourselves to what we want to do. We thought the last album was one of the weirdest and most inaccessible that we’ve done so far, but for some reason it’s the one that everyone picked up on. Maybe we just need to get weirder and weirder!”

Ghost Hunters Steve Gonsalves’ Scariest Paranormal Moment

by jummy84 October 25, 2025

The one where Courteney Cox shares a ghost story.

The Friends star told Howard Stern she had a delivery man ring her doorbell and inform her of an unexpected guest.

“I answered it, got my package and he said, ‘Do you know this house is haunted?’” Courteney said on a 2022 episode of his SiriusXM show. “And I go, ‘Really? Why?’ He goes, ‘Because there’s someone standing behind you.’ And I thought, ‘Oh s–t.’”

This wasn’t her only spooky experience, however. Courteney also recalled a scare she had in London.

“I’d just gotten there,” the Scream alum added. “So yeah, I was a little jet-lagged but I wasn’t sleeping. I was sitting there, I closed my eyes to try to sleep and all of a sudden I saw these really scary faces—like old faces. I was like, ‘OK, stop, stop, you gotta stop.’ And then all of a sudden I was like, ‘Mom? Dad? Auntie Em?’ I don’t know. I just kept seeing all these weird things.”

After also seeing lights and a plant move, Courteney alerted her longtime love Johnny McDaid.

“I was like, ‘Johnny! Wake up! I’m seeing spirits!'” the actress added. “And he had all these waves around him too. And he goes, ‘Courteney, you’re asleep.’ I said, ‘No, I just woke you up! How can I be asleep?’ He’s like, ‘Well, I’m asleep. There are no ghosts.’ I did see them for sure.”

Ultimately, Courteney warded them off with a request.

“I said, ‘Thanks for visiting last night. That was fun. Do not come back tonight cause I have to sleep,'” she said. “And I didn’t see them again.”

A woman named Zaria, who previously alleged that Rod Wave is the father of her child, took to Instagram on Wednesday to call out the rapper for allegedly abandoning their daughter. Her posts quickly sparked social media reactions and even a brief back-and-forth with Rod’s ex, Dee, the mother of his twin girls.

Woman Calls Out Rod Wave, Claims He’s The Father Of Her Child

On Wednesday, Zaria, a woman who made headlines earlier this year after claiming to share a child with rapper Rod Wave, spoke out on her Instagram Story. In her post, she said she’s been quiet for too long and expressed that she has no respect for any man who doesn’t step up for his children.

“I been quiet for too long. My baby innocent n don’t deserve what her h*e a** daddy doing to her. You gone regret abandoning your daughter I PROMISE U. I hope God take everything away n humble u,” she wrote.

While Zaria didn’t mention Rod Wave by name, fans quickly connected her post to the rapper. Earlier this year, the two exchanged words online after she claimed in a TikTok comment that Rod is her daughter’s father. Rod has never publicly confirmed or denied the claim. However, he previously stated that he only has two daughters, his twins with Dee.

Social Media Reacts

Zaria’s post quickly sparked reactions, with commenters sharing mixed opinions in The Shade Room Teens comment section.

Instagram user @_shaunyisthatyou wrote, “Wait so she got preganant and he gave her money to abort it and she decided to keep it ???? Now she’s upset that he doesn’t want to be a dad??? Make it make sense

Another Instagram user @ayemonaeee wrote, “The baby innocent. Regardless if he was in a relationship or not. It take two to make a baby”

While Instagram user @_keirya wrote, “I can’t keep taking up for you Rod 😭😭😭”

Instagram user @teeyah.senea wrote, “Girl not rn before he cancel this tour too 🤦🏽‍♀️”

Another Instagram user @thejaylacamille wrote, “She kept that baby outta spite & is now paying for it… as a man he needs to do this part but again… why be surprised when the signs were there ?!!!

Instagram user @sir_knight40 wrote, “Did it for that check now your daughter gonna be hurting. Y’all gon learn one day”

Another Instagram user @keepingupwithzy wrote, “Y’all normalizing dead beats is crazy 😴😴😴”

While Instagram user @simplydonyelle wrote, “DNA test and be done with the back and forth”

Zaria and Rod Wave’s Ex, Dee, Exchange Words Online

Earlier that day, Dee, the mother of Rod Wave’s twin daughters, shared a post on Twitter expressing gratitude that her girls are surrounded by love from both sides of their family.

“I’m so glad my kids’ side of the family loves them unconditionally. Them babies so loved 😩❤️ Having your mom’s side and your dad’s side of the family just chef’s kiss. I hope my girls know they’re blessed to have two big families,” she wrote.

While Dee’s post came before Zaria’s Instagram Story, many users speculated it may have prompted Zaria’s comments about Rod allegedly not being present in her daughter’s life. Things later escalated when Dee claimed one of Zaria’s friends spoke about her and Rod’s twins. Zaria responded, denying that the post came from anyone associated with her. Despite that, the two women exchanged heated words on Instagram Stories. However, as of right now Rod Wave has not publicly addressed any of the accusations or the online exchange between the two women.

‘Ghost Adventures’ Aaron Goodwin Breaks Silence Over Wife’s Alleged Plot to Murder Him

by jummy84 October 22, 2025
written by jummy84

Ghost Adventures star Aaron Goodwin has said “this has been the worst year of [his] life” as he continues to come to terms with his estranged wife’s alleged murder-for-hire plot against him.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday (October 21), Goodwin shared a message for the press, writing, “To all the press out there messaging me. Thank u for all reaching out & being awesome but unfortunately I can’t talk about anything yet.”

While the Discovery Channel star couldn’t share details of the case, he did provide a personal update with his followers. “I could tell you guys I’m doing ok but I would rather be honest. Just know I’m not doing good at all & everyday is worse with all I’m learning all the time,” he shared.

Goodwin’s estranged wife, Victoria, was arrested on March 6 in Clark County, Nevada, for solicitation to commit murder and conspiracy to murder. She was accused of messaging an inmate in a Florida prison last fall, where she expressed her desire to have Goodwin killed so she could get out of her marriage. The former couple had been married since 2022.

While the 32-year-old Victoria initially denied the allegations, she pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit murder on April 15. Two months later, she was sentenced to 36 to 90 months in prison.

“They say in time everything gets better but I just want the divorce to be over so I can move on with my life,” Goodwin continued in his Instagram post. “Honestly, I probably couldn’t make it through an interview without being in tears and I’m just not ready yet.”

He concluded, “This has been the worst year of my life.”

During a June court appearance, Victoria apologized for her actions, telling Goodwin she is “immensely sorry for the pain and anxiety” she caused him.

“I genuinely pray you find your joy and peace again, and I will bow out of your life forever to hopefully ease that process,” she added. “I’m sorry I broke us, and I’m consumed with regret every day. My absolute promise to you is that you’ll never see or hear from me.”

Goodwin filed for divorce just days after Victoria’s arrest. In his own court statement, the reality star said, “For seven years I thought I was in the most loving relationship of marriage with my best friend, someone who I trusted in [my] whole heart and laughed with every day… I was loyal to her and [did] whatever I could to make her happy. I thought we were something very special, and so did everyone else.”

How the PS5 powered Ghost of Yōtei's heartwarming new feature

How the PS5 powered Ghost of Yōtei’s heartwarming new feature

by jummy84 October 4, 2025
written by jummy84

At the press of a button, you can send Atsu instantaneously into a childhood flashback. You’re standing in the exact same location, but you’ve travelled back in time to Atsu’s younger years when her parents were still alive. In the blink of an eye, you’re back in those happier days.

It’s a neat trick, and one that we can imagine lots of other games trying to emulate in future. For example, It would work super well for the Star Wars Jedi games, where the lead character already senses ‘echoes’ of the past.

On the eve of the Yōtei’s launch, we had the chance to ask Nate Fox, one of the game’s directors, about the thinking behind this feature and how it is even possible. So, what was thinking behind the flashbacks?

In Fox’s words: “We really want players to be able to experience Atsu’s youth. You know, why does she love her mum so much, who just hen-pecks her to keep practicing her shamisen. Or her dad, you know, making dad jokes. The kind of things that you can relate to, so that, when Atsu is furious about the life that was stolen from her, you understand.

“And because it’s a video game, of course, you get to play the thing. And I don’t know you, when you play video games, I tend to say, like, ‘Oh, I died on that level’. You are the character. And that’s a great thing about games, right? That they’re immersive on that level, that is unique.”

This seamless cutting into Atsu’s early years, as we assumed, was it by any chance made possible by the Solid State Drive in the console itself?

“You’re right,” Fox told us. “It is, in fact, because of the power of the SSD on the PlayStation 5 that we can have, effectively, the level loaded twice.

“And early on, we wanted to do that for the exact reason I was just talking about, so that players would be in charge of being able to go from this kind of sad, cold, lonely reality that she starts as, she’s a lone wolf, and then effortlessly go back into that moment of remembering what this place was like, when it was when it was warm.”

Fox added an interesting question: “Have you ever had the experience of going back to your parents’ house and walking into the bedroom you grew up in, and whether you like it or not, memories come to you?

“That’s what we were going for, right? That whether you like it or not, the past is still real, alive in your mind. And it seemed like a thing that would be cool to put into a game.”

“When Atsu is furious about the life that was stolen from her, you understand.” Sucker Punch Productions

Indeed, it is cool. And unlike the studio’s previous game, Ghost of Tsushima, Yōtei is not launching on PS4. And this heartwarming feature isn’t the only upgrade you’ll see because of that. So, what else was made possible in the new game by stepping away from the old hardware?

Fox explained: “It’s great to be able to target one piece of hardware and go deep on it, particularly the DualSense controller, which, to me, is unbelievably cool. It does things that couldn’t have didn’t occur 10 years ago, right?

“Haptics change your experience playing video games – instead of just sight and sound, you can feel things. Have you ever given your DualSense controller to somebody who doesn’t play games, and they jump when the controller moves a little bit? And they’re freaked out. It’s like, ‘Oh, this is possessed by a ghost’, you know? Because they’re not used to the game or media of any kind kind of coming at them through those vectors. It’s really cool.

“And so, by virtue of being just on PlayStation 5, we can really pour energy into making sure things like the controller get the attention they deserve.”

Fox then offered up some specific examples of DualSense features in the game: “One of my favourites is you start a fire by kind of, oh yeah, making a spark with some flint. And it’s just simply swiping up on the touch pad. But because what you do immediately represents the thing that would happen, while doing the flint, it feels like you’re doing the flint.

“Is this a major challenge in the game? No, it is not. It’s just to make you feel immersed. And I appreciate that the controller can let players have this small experience that’s real. And of course, we use it in all sorts of other ways, like Sumi-e painting, or feeling the clash of swords with the haptics.

“It all adds up. But I like that we have the flexibility to let players encounter gameplay from a bunch of different formats.”

Another example is forging a sword by physically moving the controller up and down. As Fox puts it, “By just kind of doing a basic hammering action, you make that heated metal get flattened out as you stamp out a sword. I don’t know if you’ve ever fantasised about making a katana?”

In Fox’s words, “It’s all part of the fantasy.” And the tech inside the PS5 really helps it feel like you’re living out that fantasy.

Ghost of Yōtei is out now on PS5 and you can order your copy here.

First Trailer for Charlie Kaufman’s ‘How to Shoot a Ghost’ Short Film

“What do you want to remember?” Kanopy has debuted the official trailer for a film titled How to Shoot a Ghost, a brand new short film created and directed by the distinct filmmaker / writer Charlie Kaufman. His latest since the film I’m Thinking of Ending Things in 2020. His new film is a 27 minute short that is premiering at the 2025 Venice Film Festival underway right now. The original intro at the fest: “Following two recently dead people who wander Athens as ghosts, the film explores mortality: as it interacts with the urge toward belonging, and our human desire to leave something, some trace, behind; and our twin desire for self obliteration. Street photography, historical footage, and old home videos interlaced with the body of the film, underscore how the ‘now’ will become the ‘then’, how those of us living today become the ghosts of tomorrow.” The short stars a nearly unrecognizable Jessie Buckley (also in Hamnet) with blue hair and a nose ring. Along with Josef Akiki as the other ghost. Shot on location in Athens, Greece. This looks quite good. Not just a simple story about ghosts wandering around a city, it’s much deeper than that. Check it out.

Here’s the main official trailer for Charlie Kaufman’s short film How to Shoot a Ghost, from YouTube:

Intro via Venice: “Two newly dead young people meet in the streets of Athens, amid the pulsing cityscape and the ghosts of history. One a translator, the other a photographer, they were outsiders in life; in death they struggle with the residue of their longings and mistakes. They wander the city together, finding consolation in the difficult beauty of existence and its aftermath.” How to Shoot a Ghost is a short directed by iconic Oscar-winning American writer / filmmaker Charlie Kaufman, director of the films Anomalisa, Synecdoche New York, and I’m Thinking of Ending Things previously, and writer of scripts for Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The screenplay is written by Eva H.D. Produced by Isabelle Deluce & Emily McCann Lesser. The film premieres at the 2025 Venice Film Festival in the Out of Competition section. No other release dates are set yet – stay tuned for updates. Who’s interested?
