Tiffany Haddish ‘Goes Off’ on Girls Trip Docuseries Through Africa With Childhood Friends

by jummy84 November 10, 2025
written by jummy84

What To Know

  • Tiffany Haddish stars in a new Peacock docuseries, Tiffany Haddish Goes Off, where she travels through Africa with three childhood friends, exploring Cape Town, Victoria Falls, Harare, and Zanzibar.
  • The series focuses on deepening friendships, emotional vulnerability, and cultural discovery, including learning from local women entrepreneurs and challenging media stereotypes about Africa.
  • The experience allowed Haddish and her friends to support each other, share personal growth, and showcase the importance of community and empowerment among women.

If Tiffany Haddish knows one thing, it’s how to have a good time. The Girls Trip star brings art to life traveling on a girls trip of her own alongside three childhood friends Selena Martin, and sisters Shermona Long and Sparkle Clark. For Peacock’s new docuseries Tiffany Haddish Goes Off, the four embark on a month-long adventure through Africa.

The six episodes premiering November 13 follows them as they experience all Cape Town, South Africa; Victoria Falls and Harare, Zimbabwe; and Zanzibar, Tanzania have to offer. They build stronger bonds and spiritual connection while learning about each other on a deeper level in the process. It’s Eat Pray Love meets Waiting to Exhale.

We caught up with the ladies to reflect on their journey and being vulnerable.

Take me through how this docuseries came about.

Tiffany Haddish: The concept we wanted to pattern it after the movie Girls Trip. Four girls go on a trip and have an experience. Fish out of water I think is a great concept. We were definitely four fish out of our natural habitat. Also, I think people like to see beautiful women doing things outside their natural habitat. So, I figure this would be good that way. Also,  other women like to see other women outside of things they normally do and also exploring new things that will give them new ideas to explore too. So, that’s it.

How was it opening up?

Tiffany: I know he is talking about y’all because I stay humble.

Sparkle Clark: I didn’t know it would be so emotional.

Shermona Long: It was tough having the cameras around all the time initially and sometimes you forget that they’re there.

Sparkle: I didn’t forget.

Selena Martin: I don’t think I ever forgot.

Tiffany: I know I never forgot. I was like, “hey, the lighting is not good over here. Look up homeboy and lift that up a little bit higher because that light is about to bounce off my forehead.”

Tiffany, you talk in the docuseries how you’ve been through so much in the last two years. How was it for you to, through this experience, be able to put into words what you’ve been through. When you see the headlines, we don’t often see the person behind them. Here you’re able to show that.

Tiffany: Yeah, it felt good to share with my friends and by sharing with them I’m sharing with the whole world. It’s a relief to be surrounded by people who actually love me, even some of the crew members. They want to buy me houses or whatever. But I’m like, “no, we work together. No, don’t do that. Just maybe wait until the show airs, and we can talk.” I’m like, “calm down. Calm down. I don’t even go that way.” Wait, what was the question?

I think you answered it.

Tiffany: Yeah, I answered it.

You’re often in the lap of luxury, but how important was it for you to also show the culture and what was really going on in these areas?

Tiffany: It was super important to me to show what was going on because what we’re shown in the media is not exactly what is going on over there. Shermona, what did you think we were going to do?

Shermona: I thought we were going to be in the bush, but it was just like the states. They have a lot of what we have pretty much.

Tiffany: Yeah, when we were staying in Victoria Falls  we were staying in the bush, but we were staying in the lap of luxury. It was like we were staying in Lancaster. There just happens to be warthogs out there, wild boars, and elephants, and all kinds of stuff. So, it was awesome. The monkeys will rob you though in Cape Town. Be careful. They got monkey gangs. It ain’t people. They’re actual monkeys.

Tiffany, what was it like being able to show who your friends are? And also for you three , how was it being able to see the other side of what Tiffany has been dealing with from celebrity.

Sparkle: I could see how intense it was for her and how the media could be a little cruel in how she was really taking it in and it really bothered her in a sense. It was about empowering her and letting her know we’re here to support her and we got her back.

Tiffany: I can’t wait until the show comes out because they are really going to know how it feels like. It’s like, “you’re mean! You’re mean, mean, mean. You better be nicer.”

Tiffany Haddish

What would you say was the most eye-opening part of this experience?

Shermona: I think in Tanzania when we went to meet the mommies. They were divorced women that would normally be ostracized out of their families and they came together to form a business in order to provide for their families. We went to visit them, and we learned how they make a lot of their products. A lot of their products came from seaweed, so we were out in the ocean learning how to grow seaweed.

Tiffany: Which I’m growing some in Manhattan Beach right now!

Shermona: But I loved how they came together as a community of women and came together to help each other out. It was effortless.

Selena, you’re seen as the quieter one of the group. However, you go into how important it is to have a voice. How do you look back on that realization?

Selena: I just think the show and everything we went through has helped me be much more vocal both in my personal and professional life. It is challenging. It’s challenging to do it in your personal life with people you love and care for. It’s especially challenging to do it in front of a camera talking about things that are very personal that you may not have shared with your mom. It’s freeing. I feel like I’ve released a lot.

Tiffany, what update can you provide on the Girls Trip sequel?

Tiffany: Update on Girls Trip 2 movie as far as I know they are making some tweaks to the script and we’re supposed to go shoot next summer. That’s what I was told and all the girls. They called us all together. They basically asked us to keep our summer open.

If there is a Season 2, where would you want to go next?

Tiffany: I would love for us to go to other countries in Africa or down in South America where the diaspora is there too.

Sparkle: Egypt, India, I want to go everywhere.

Tiffany: We can go to Europe and find out about this tribe you are a part of [to Selena] because I didn’t even know they had tribes. Things you learn.

Sombr Performs ’12 to 12′ and ‘Back to Friends’

by jummy84 November 9, 2025
written by jummy84

Sombr made his Saturday Night Live debut as the musical guest on Nov. 8.

The 20-year-old singer-songwriter performed two songs — “12 to 12” and “Back to Friends” — from his debut album, I Barely Know Her, which reached No. 10 on the Billboard 200 in September.

Dressed in a sharp red suit and black shirt, the New York City native opened the show with “12 to 12” alongside a full band, then returned later to perform “Back to Friends” from behind the piano before stepping out for an emotional delivery.

Sombr, who writes and produces all of his own songs, is having a breakout year. His debut album, I Barely Know Her, arrived in August and produced his first three Billboard Hot 100 hits: the top 20 singles “Back to Friends” (No. 12) and “Undressed” (No. 16), as well as “12 to 12,” which peaked at No. 41.

The musician, whose real name is Shane Boose, recently earned a Grammy nomination for best new artist. He recently wrapped the sold-out North American leg of his first-ever headlining tour, which spanned 31 shows across the U.S. and Canada. Every venue was upgraded to meet demand, with multiple cities adding extra dates, including a triumphant hometown finale in New York City.

The latest episode of the long-running NBC sketch comedy show also featured first-time host Nikki Glaser. The comedian is set to return as host of the Golden Globes on Jan. 11.

SNL returns on Nov. 15 with actor Glen Powell as host and musical guest Olivia Dean.

Watch Sombr Perform ’12 to 12,’ ‘Back to Friends’

by jummy84 November 9, 2025

The NYC native debuts on the late night show with two tracks from his first EP, I Barely Know Her

Singer-songwriter Sombr debuted on Saturday Night Live with two hits from I Barely Know Her, his debut album that he released in August.

The New York City native, who just picked up a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist, opened with “12 to 12,” an MTV Video Music Awards nominee for Song of the Summer.

Sombr returned later at the piano with “Back to Friends,” which he alone wrote and produced.

The lead single from the ten-track LP, “Back to Friends” is one of Rolling Stone‘s Best Songs of 2025 So Far, as it “plays out like an impassioned conversation that bleeds through the walls and captures the melodrama of teenage love.”

Sombr, whose real name is Shane Boose, “performs with a distinct internal confidence and external charm that has been notably absent in the withering releases from many of his male contemporaries in pop,” as Rolling Stone‘s Larisha Paul wrote in a positive review of his first album.

Trending Stories

Sombr’s stop at SNL coincided with the end of the North American leg of The Late Nights & Young Romance Tour, which he sold out. Early next month, he’ll head to New Zealand and Australia before beginning a run of shows in Europe in February.

“It’s hard to step back and be like, ‘Wow, this is amazing’ when everything is happening so fast, but it is the best thing that has ever happened to me,” the 20-year-old revealed to MTV in September, before making his awards show debut at the VMAs. “Being able to meet all these people, go to all these countries, and see all these new faces and beautiful people who connect with my music — it’s all I ever wanted to do in my life, so it’s the best thing ever.”

Did Shah Rukh Khan Really ‘Struggle’ in Bollywood? A Friend’s Claims Upset The Myth

Did Shah Rukh Khan Really ‘Struggle’ in Bollywood? A Friend’s Claims Upset The Myth

by jummy84 November 8, 2025
written by jummy84

When one of Bollywood’s most enduring superstar stories meets a dose of revisionism, it makes for complex headlines. Veteran producer-actor Viveck Vaswani has just made waves by claiming that Shah Rukh Khan never faced the kind of hardship commonly attributed to his “outsider” narrative. According to Vaswani, the actor arrived in Mumbai and was promptly housed in the posh Cuffe Parade locality—far removed from the myth of sleeping on pavements or struggling to make ends meet.

Vaswani, who sheltered Shah Rukh in the early 1990s and collaborated with him on his early film outings, said candidly: “Not once did he struggle from the road. He was living in Cuffe Parade. After he got married and needed a place, director Aziz Mirza helped with a house in Bandra.” He further underlines that Shah Rukh was treated with “kid gloves” from day one—from directors, neighbours and the small circle of industry friends who backed him. This stands in stark contrast to the oft-repeated “Delhi boy with nothing arrives in Mumbai and fights his way to superstardom” narrative.

For decades, Shah Rukh has answered questions about his background with the story of being a Non-Resident Delhi lad, coming from a non-filmy family, to conquer Bollywood. At the WAVES 2025 summit, for example, he insisted that what matters is not where you come from but how you make your place. He said, “I also have a problem with the distinction of the outsider and insider… where you come from is not important.” Yet Vaswani’s remarks suggest that the “struggler” tag may deserve a fresh read.

Why does this matter? Because the myth of the struggling outsider holds immense cultural currency in India. When a star like Shah Rukh is framed as having “nothing” and “coming from nowhere,” it becomes an inspirational tale—one that feeds into how audiences imagine merit, ambition and the “dream” of Bollywood. But if the scaffolding of that myth shifts—if it emerges that he was housed in luxury from the start or supported by key insiders—it challenges foundational parts of how we imagine “rags to riches” in entertainment.

There are multiple layers here. On one level, Vaswani is defending his friend and the industry: he argues the narrative laid out by Shah Rukh’s son Aryan Khan’s series—which painted Bollywood as cut-throat and filtering outsiders through narrow filters—was unrecognisably bleak compared to the experience Vaswani remembers. On another level, we confront the broader question of how star-mythologies are constructed. Did Shah Rukh truly struggle? Or did he start from a place of relative comfort Yes. And does it matter? Perhaps less for his star credentials, more for how future aspirants frame their own dreams.

What Vaswani’s comments force us to ask: If one of Bollywood’s biggest names did not face the “zero” baseline struggle, does the notion of “outsider triumph” change? Does the industry become less about overcoming and more about being well-placed, well-connected, well-served? The answer is probably a mix—but the discourse matters.

Shah Rukh’s own responses suggest discomfort at being boxed into “outsider” labels, especially when he emphasises that his world always believed he belonged: “When I came here I never thought I was an outsider, I believed this is my world.” That said, the segment of film-culture and fandom that elevates struggling origins still persists. For them, Vaswani’s remarks may feel like a burst of cold water in a warm mantra.

At the same time, this is not a plea to diminish Shah Rukh’s achievements. His body of work, charisma, connection with fans and sustained success across decades are undeniable. But narratives matter—and when they are at odds with personal recollections, the gap becomes a space of critique. It also opens up questions of how the industry itself re-works mythologies: how star origin stories are edited, adapted and polished to fit the rhetoric of merit or destiny.

What could the consequences be? For aspirants, it might shift the email: success requires not just talent, hunger and hard work—but also support systems: housing, industry contacts and early-stage access. For commentary on nepotism versus outsider debates, it complicates neat binaries. Shah Rukh may still qualify as an “outsider” in terms of lineage—but he doesn’t necessarily fit the full classic trope of the struggling outsider.

For the audience, moments like this prompt a rethink. When we say “he built himself up from nothing”, do we mean literally nothing? Or do we mean lack of film family? When we celebrate the outsider victory, are we erasing the systems that held up an early path? Vaswani is effectively saying: I lived that era with him. I housed him. I watched him go from Delhi to Bandra to stardom. The narrative of hardship exists—but not always the one we expect.

In an industry enamoured by sloganeering about hunger, it matters to know that Shah Rukh himself said “hunger and ambition” are “lofty words” that don’t fully explain the realities. That candid statement, combined with Vaswani’s account, underscores that the storytelling we absorb about stardom may need more nuance.

In the final analysis, one doesn’t need to discard the outsider label entirely. Shah Rukh lacked scripted industry lineage—he didn’t arrive as a star-kid with immediate launch pad. But neither did he arrive as homeless, struggling to get a break—according to those who knew him then. And maybe that complexity is where the real story lives: not in a mythic ladder-climb, but in a network-in-motion guided by talent, timing and access.

For Bollywood’s lore, this moment is significant: one of its biggest icons now has a friend offering a counter-commentary to his origin story. What changes? Maybe not the films, maybe not the fan love—but perhaps the way we talk about the “struggler” myth going forward.

Cheryl Hines admits long-time friends distanced themselves after her husband Robert F. Kennedy Jr backed Trump

8 November 2025

Cheryl Hines has said some of her long-time friends distanced themselves after her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., suspended his presidential campaign last year and announced his support for Donald Trump’s re-election bid.

Cheryl Hines has said some of her long-time friends distanced themselves after her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The 60-year-old Curb Your Enthusiasm actress discussed the fallout over the switch in an interview with Lara Trump, the president’s daughter-in-law, for My View with Lara Trump on Fox News Channel.

In an advance clip shared with People magazine, Lara asked Cheryl how those close to her responded when Kennedy, 71, publicly endorsed Trump and joined his administration.

Lara said: “He originally ran for president as a Democrat, and then that comes to an end and he says, ‘I’m actually going to support the Republican candidate for president, but not just any Republican candidate, Donald Trump’.

“Did you hear from people, did you suddenly not hear from people? How did that go for you?”

Cheryl laughed before replying: “I heard from people. You know what, I was actually grateful for my good friends that had feelings about it, still have feelings about it, but at least would call me and say, ‘I can’t believe this is happening, you can’t let this happen!’”

She added: “I would rather that than somebody who I’ve known for 30 years just stop talking to me altogether.”

Cheryl continued: “I’ve experienced it all. And then I have some really good friends that, you know, we have thoughtful discussions where it’s, you know, you can say, ‘Wow, here’s something that happened that I didn’t like, that still bothers me, and here’s something that’s happening that I think is good’.”

The actress also said she valued friends who could “see both sides and it’s not black and white”, adding: “So I really appreciate those people.”

Cheryl’s full interview will air on Saturday (08.11.25) at 9pm ET.

Cheryl has been promoting her new book Unscripted and has spoken more openly about her husband’s political alliance with Trump, who appointed Kennedy as secretary of health and human services.

Appearing on The View last month, Cheryl said she had initially been “guarded” about her husband’s decision to back Trump. She said: “I have not been a political person.

“I haven’t posted anything on social media, other than to go out and vote. I never told people who they should vote for. I just said, ‘This is important, you should vote’.

“So with Bobby, that was a very difficult decision to make with President Trump. At the end of the day, President Trump and Bobby sat down and talked, and yes, they did have a lot of common goals.”

Kennedy and Trump have since launched a joint “Make America Healthy Again” campaign, or MAHA movement.

As health secretary, Kennedy has faced criticism for making unsubstantiated claims about links between autism and both Tylenol use and early circumcision, while continuing to question vaccine safety.

A source previously told People Cheryl “was very unhappy” with RFK Jr’s decision to join the Trump wagon, but was “making the best of it” because “she loves Bobby”.

The couple, who married in 2014, have appeared together at multiple White House events, including Kennedy’s confirmation hearings and Trump’s inauguration.

Among the surprise guests was apparently Baby Crash a.k.a. Herbo and Ari Fletcher’s son, Yosohn.

Furthermore, social media users captured the 7-year-old hitting the stage. And what was even more heartwarming than watching Baby Crash perform was seeing his parents bond in their shared support of Yosohn.

Ari Fletcher & G Herbo Have Been Putting Their Best Foot Forward, Creating A Blended Family For Their Son Yosohn

Ari Fletcher and G Herbo have indeed been putting their best foot forward in creating a healthy blended family dynamic for their son, Yosohn. As The Shade Room previously reported, back in December 2024, Taina Williams and Fletcher stunned fans by linking up for multiple nights out. This, after Fletcher accused Williams of previously abusing Yosohn.

In January of this year, the pair linked up once again and put the abuse rumors to rest, per The Shade Room. Additionally, Fletcher also discussed why she decided to patch things up with Williams, who now shares two children with G Herbo.

Earlier this month, the tables appeared to turn to G Herbo and the man in Fletcher’s life, Moneybagg Yo. Last week, the pair teased and released their first musical collab, showing they’re on the same page as their ladies in creating a happy blended family environment.

Mariska Hargitay Reveals She Tested For ‘Friends’ ‘So Many Times’

by jummy84 October 26, 2025
written by jummy84

Before Mariska Hargitay ended up as “America’s sweetheart sex cop,” as she aptly described herself on her Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast appearance, the veteran TV actor thought she would be a comedian and tested for Friends “many times.”

Discussing her affinity for comedy with the Parks and Recreation alumna, Hargitay said “all I wanted to be was you,” reflecting on having come up through The Groundlings, the famed Saturday Night Live pipeline improv school and sketch comedy troupe.

“I did a lot of [comedy auditions],” Hargitay told Poehler about going out for comedic roles at the beginning of her career. “I did Seinfeld, and I did Single Guy, and I tested for Friends so many times.”

When asked which part she auditioned for, Hargitay said, “I think it’s Monica — so long ago, again. But I always thought that I would end up being on a sitcom or doing comedy, that’s what I thought.”

However, a chance encounter with a psychic, who had come highly recommended by her friends, revealed to her a different destiny.

At the time, the My Mom Jayne documentarian had just wrapped her time as Cynthia Hooper on ER and was a “struggling actor.” Via her development deal at DreamWorks, she was then working on a dramedy in the vein of Ally McBeal. But while on a routine trip to New York City, she visited a psychic in Long Island at her friends’ behest, who “started saying all this amazing stuff to me.”

“He said to me, Amy, ‘You see that face you’re doing right now? You see that face?’ … I said, ‘Yeah.’ He goes, ‘You’re gonna be famous for that face. You’re moving to New York, and you’re gonna be famous for that face,’” she recalled. “And I said, ‘Uh, no, I live in L.A., and I’m gonna be a comedian because I’m funny, and I’m pretty, and that is a deadly combination.’ And he looks at me — and this is my favorite moment in my life — and he goes like this, ‘I don’t give a rat’s ass what you say.’”

She concluded, “Six months later, swear to God, I got SVU.”

Hargitay has portrayed no-nonsense and fiercely protective New York Police Department officer-turned-captain Olivia Benson in Law & Order: SVU since 1999. The Dick Wolf-created NBC mainstay is currently airing its 27th season.

Vijay and Suriya’s 2001 Hit Friends Returns to Theatres in 4K This November

Tamil cinema’s re-release fever is showing no signs of slowing down. After the return of Kushi, another early-2000s favourite is heading back to theatres. Friends, the 2001 film starring Vijay, Suriya and Ramesh Khanna, will once again grace the big screen on November 21 in a 4K remastered version enhanced with Dolby Atmos sound. The rerelease was officially announced by public relations officer Nikil Murukan earlier this week, sparking excitement among fans who grew up watching the feel-good entertainer.

A timeless friendship finds new life

Originally directed by Siddique, Friends is based on his 1999 Malayalam film of the same name. The Tamil adaptation follows three inseparable companions whose deep bond is tested when love, secrets and misunderstandings enter the picture. What begins as a carefree tale of friendship soon takes an emotional turn, exploring how trust and loyalty can be shaken but never fully lost.

The ensemble cast includes Vijayalakshmi, Vadivelu, Abhinayashree, Charle and Radha Ravi, each contributing to the film’s mix of humour and heart. When Friends first arrived in theatres as a Pongal release in 2001, it went up against Ajith Kumar’s Dheena and still managed to emerge as one of the year’s biggest hits. Audiences loved its light-hearted tone, Ilaiyaraaja’s melodious soundtrack and the rare pairing of Vijay and Suriya, two stars who would go on to dominate Tamil cinema in their own right.

A nostalgic celebration for a new generation

The re-release of Friends comes at a time when audiences are rediscovering the joy of watching classics on the big screen. Recent Tamil rereleases have performed remarkably well, proving that emotional storytelling never goes out of style. With Friends, the restoration aims to preserve the charm of the original while presenting it with the clarity and sound quality of modern cinema.

The film’s famous tagline for the re-release, “Some friendships never fade, they just return stronger,” captures the spirit of its comeback. For longtime fans, this screening is a chance to relive their memories in the theatre once again. For newer viewers, it is an opportunity to see Vijay and Suriya share screen space in a film that shaped the tone of early 2000s Tamil comedy dramas.

The original Friends stood out for balancing laughter with emotional depth. Siddique’s direction gave the story warmth and rhythm, while the chemistry between the leads carried the film’s heart. Two decades later, the rerelease not only celebrates that enduring friendship but also highlights how the themes of loyalty and forgiveness still resonate with today’s audience.

With Friends returning to cinemas worldwide on November 21, the season of nostalgia continues. The laughter, the music and the emotion are all set to come alive again, this time brighter and louder than ever.
