The Mummy Franchise Rises Again! Brendan Fraser And Rachel Weisz Set To Return For Fourth Installment | Glamsham.com

Hollywood is going to get a serious shot of nostalgia as Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are reportedly teaming up once again for the fourth installment of the franchise, The Mummy. Per Deadline, Universal Pictures is rebooting one of its most favorite action-adventure sagas, with these two talents in discussions to revisit their stellar roles of Rick O’Connell and Evelyn Carnahan respectively.

The new movie will be directed by Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who rebooted the Scream franchise, from a script written by David Coggeshall. Franchise veteran producer Sean Daniel returns to produce alongside William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein of Project X Entertainment, reuniting the creative team behind the most recent Scream reboots.

Fraser and Weisz first starred in The Mummy, directed by Stephen Sommers, and its sequel, The Mummy Returns, in 1999 and 2001. Both films were based on Universal’s classic monster legacy and grossed more than $400 million worldwide, becoming cult hits. In them, Fraser took on the role of Rick O’Connell, a dashing adventurer and ex-soldier, while Weisz portrayed Evelyn, a smart Egyptologist. Their chemistry-developing from being reluctant partners to a married couple fighting ancient Egyptian curses-was the key to the series’ success.

The franchise expanded with the 2002 spinoff The Scorpion King, starring Dwayne Johnson, and the 2008 sequel The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, which saw Fraser return without Weisz.
After his Oscar-winning comeback with The Whale, Fraser keeps the momentum going with Rental Family, which bows Nov. 21 from Searchlight Pictures. Weisz is also an Oscar winner and recently appeared in Prime Video’s Dead Ringers and Marvel’s Black Widow.

With the two stars back on board and a new creative team to take the reins, The Mummy 4 could resurrect the adventure, romance, and supernatural thrills that made the original films timeless favorites.

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are reuniting for a fourth installment in The Mummy franchise at Universal.

Fraser starred in the first three films of the franchise, with Weisz appearing in the first two (Maria Bello replaced Weisz for the third entry).

According to Variety, the fourth movie will be directed by Radio Silence, the filmmaking team of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who broke through with the 2019 horror movie, Ready or Not, and revived the Scream franchise with Scream 5 and Scream 6 in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

The original 1999 film The Mummy was a box-office smash, grossing more than $422.5 million and launching a reliable franchise for Universal in the early 2000s. The action-adventure romp that made Fraser a star was a fun, feel-good ride strong enough to land the series on our 50 Best Action Movie Franchises of All Time list.

After stepping away from Hollywood for a variety of reasons, including an assault allegation against the former HFPA president, Fraser returned to prominence with the 2022 film, The Whale, which earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor.

Last year, it was revealed that Fraser will play Dwight D. Eisenhower in the upcoming movie, Pressure, which is based on the 72 hours leading up to D-Day.

Weisz, who starred as twins in Prime Video’s adaptation of Dead Ringers back in 2023, is set to appear in the upcoming Netflix series, Vladimir, an adaptation of the critically acclaimed, bestselling novel by Julia May Jonas.

Universal’s Brendan Fraser-led The Mummy franchise is about to get a resurrection.

Fraser, who played Rick O’Connell in the first three Stephen Sommers-universe Mummy films, and Rachel Weisz, who portrayed love interest Evelyn in the first two entries, are in talks to star in a potential fourth installment.

Filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence are set to direct the project. Best known for their darkly comedic horror hits Ready or Not and the recent Scream installments, the duo is expected to inject both scares and sharp humor into the franchise.

“Every character he meets will start adding a little bit more color into his life.” This looks so delightful. Searchlight Pictures has debuted a new promo featurette for the heartfelt film titled Rental Family, made by the filmmaker known as “Hikari” who also directed episodes of the series “Beef” & the film 37 Seconds. Rental Family already premiered at TIFF a few months ago and opens in theaters later in November this fall. Discover the joy of unexpected connections. A lonely American actor living in Tokyo starts working for a Japanese “rental family” company to play stand-in roles in other people’s lives. Along his journey, he finds surprising connections and unexpected joys within his built-in family. This stars Oscar winner Brendan Fraser, along with Takehiro Hira, Mari Yamamoto, Shannon Gorman, & Akira Emoto. This fun promo focuses on explaining the story and the concept it explores – the idea that in Tokyo, Japan you can just rent a person for whatever – to be your friend, your boyfriend, your family member. I’m really looking forward to watching the film. I think this very wholesome, uplifting story is what we could use more of now.

Here’s the “Building a New Family” featurette for Hikari’s film Rental Family, on Searchlight’s YouTube:

Set against modern-day Tokyo, Rental Family follows an American actor (Oscar winner Brendan Fraser) who struggles to find his purpose until he lands an unusual gig: working for a Japanese “rental family” agency, playing stand-in roles for strangers. As he immerses himself in his new clients’ worlds, he begins to form genuine bonds that soon blur the lines between performance and reality. Confronting the moral complexities of his work, he rediscovers purpose, belonging, and the quiet beauty of human connection. Rental Family is directed by the Japanese filmmaker known as Hikari (aka Mitsuyo Miyazaki), director of the film 37 Seconds previously, plus episodes of the series “Beef” from A24. The screenplay is written by Stephen Blahut and Hikari. Produced by Julia Lebedev, Eddie Vaisman, Shin Yamaguchi, and Hikari. This is premiering at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival this fall. Searchlight will then debut Hikari’s Rental Family in select US theaters starting on November 21st, 2025 coming soon this fall. Who’s planning to watch this?
