Egypt Seeks More Foreign Shoots

Egypt Seeks More Foreign Shoots

by jummy84 November 15, 2025
written by jummy84

The Egypt Film Commission aims to increase foreign shoots in Egypt, in the wake of recent high-profile productions, including Guy Ritchie’s “Fountain of Youth,” shot at the Giza Pyramids, Neil Burger’s espionage thriller “Inheritance,” shot in Cairo, Jon M. Chu’s “Wicked: For Good,” and Mr Beast’s online video, “I Spent 100 Hours Inside the Pyramids.”

Line production in Egypt for these projects was handled by ASAP Productions, Hama Film Productions, Misr International Films and Filmedia LLC, respectively.

ASAP Productions also serviced part of season one of the Paramount series “The Agency,” which filmed in Cairo in 2024, and the company’s executive producer, Amin El Masr, says he is actively seeking new productions.

Filmedia serviced “Wicked: For Good,” with a four-day shoot in Egypt’s White Desert National Park and previously line produced part of the prologue for Colin Trevorrow’s “Jurassic World: Dominion” in 2020, overseen by VFX supervisor, Pablo Helman.

“We’re immensely grateful to Universal for their continued trust and support,” says Ahmed Kardous, Filmedia’s CEO and co-founder, adding that he is currently in discussions on several international projects.

The EFC secured special access to the Giza Pyramids for Mr Beast’s 21-minute internet show, which clocked up 43 million views in its first 24 hours and generated over 200 million views on YouTube.

Since its launch in 2019, the EFC has assisted over 90 international productions. “This momentum reflects the country’s unparalleled historical landscapes, diverse urban backdrops, and highly capable production services,” says Ahmed Badawi, EFC’s managing director.

“A growing number of production companies from the United States, as well as leading studios and independent producers from Italy, India, China, Kuwait, and other countries across Europe, Asia, and the Gulf region, have expressed strong interest in filming here. This reflects Egypt’s unique combination of cinematic landscapes, world-renowned heritage sites, experienced local crews, and our competitive facilitation environment.”

The EFC’s activity is set against a broader government strategy to augment international awareness of Egypt’s cultural assets, encompassing recent initatives such as the opening of the $1 billion megaproject, the Grand Egyptian Museum.

The EFC is a subsidiary of the Egyptian Media Production City, which was founded 25 years ago, and covers an area of 2 million square meters (12.5 million square feet). It is considered to be the largest media and production entity in the Middle East, including sound studios and extensive backlots.

The EMPC offers a 30% cashback scheme for eligible on-site expenditure in its facilities and services. Badawi says that the EFC is currently in active discussion with relevant government authorities to introduce new broader production incentives for off-site and location-based spending in the country.

The EFC positions itself as a one-stop shop for filming in Egypt, including facilitating shooting permits and liaising with local line producers.

Other recent international shoots include Barbara Schulz’s “Treasure Hunters: On the Tracks of Khufu,” part of the climate change documentary “Groundswell,” and part of the Belgian eight-episode crime caper series “The Big Fuck-Up,” starring Willem De Schryver and directed by Wim Geudens.

To reeinforce collaboration with Asian and African film markets the EFC recently signed Memorandums of Understandings with China’s Ory Group and the African Film Finance Forum, with the stated goal of strengthening Egypt’s positioning as a central hub for regional co-productions. The EFC also met with India’s Joint secretary minister of information, and United Media Services in March 2025, to discuss how to enhance media and film collaboration between Egypt and India.

Recent productions from Asia include Korean TV show “Hit and Miss Tour 3,” and Chinese film “Welcome to Dragon Restaurant,” by Wen Muye (“Dying to Survive”).

As part of its campaign to attract foreign productions, in Cannes this year the EFC teamed up with Cairo Intl. Film Festival and El Gouna Film Festival to present a unified Egyptian Pavilion, and went on to win the Best Pavilion Design Award.

Fivio Foreign Raps About Missing Kai Cenat’s ‘Mafiathon 3’

Aww! Looks like Fivio Foreign is in his feelings after not getting an invite to Kai Cenat’s record-breaking ‘Mafiathon 3.’ In his new freestyle, ‘Enter the Chat’, the Brooklyn rapper name-dropped Kai and admitted he was hurt about not making it on the stream.

Fivio Foreign Name-Drops Kai Cenat In Freestyle

If you’ve been keeping up, Fivio isn’t new to calling out streamers in his music. Earlier this year, he dropped a track called ‘PlaqueBoyMax’, naming it after the Twitch streamer he had drama with. The internet dubbed it a diss after the track was released following Fivio’s stream with Max, where he repeatedly asked him not to smoke, a moment Fivio clearly didn’t take lightly.

Now, he’s back with Enter the Chat, which he dropped on YouTube and social media just a few days ago. The freestyle already has over 190K views, and clips are going viral, mainly because he aired out his feelings about missing Kai Cenat’s ‘Mafiathon 3.’

In case you missed it, Kai just wrapped his 30-day subathon, during which he broke the record for reaching over a million Twitch subscribers. The month-long series featured high-level entertainment, surprise guests, and even a freestyle segment in which an artist pulled up to spit a few bars, seemingly the segment that has Fivio in his feelings.

In the freestyle, he rapped:

“Kai Cenat didn’t invite me to come rap, and that sh** hurt me. Type of time is he on? I gave the city hits. How they ain’t hit me for that Mafiathon? You buggin’.”

Social Media Reacts

Of course, the internet had a lot to say about Fivio’s recent actions:

X user @chiefflips wrote, “after the sh** you pulled with PlaqueBoyMax, no streamer gonna be fw you no more gang 😂😂😂”

Another X user @goinschitz wrote, “dude dropped a heartbreak song for “Kai Cenat”

While X user @dogeyes413 wrote, “you burned the streamer bridge”

X user @herf_christ wrote, “this is a grown man crying about kids don’t wanna chill with him 😭”

Another X user @ladiekay_ wrote, “Making a song saying that is insane. Just text the n**** “

While X user @ketainu, wrote, “fivio is quite literally one of the funniest rappers ever bro”

Fivio Foreign Calls Out Mafiathon Snubs With Zoe Spencer

This isn’t the first time Fivio Foreign has shown he is salty about ‘Mafiathon.’ Last month, during a livestream with Zoe Spencer, he asked, “Why don’t nobody like you?” Fans interpreted this as a dig at her rumored fallout with Kai Cenat after she missed out on Streamer University. He added that he would’ve loved to see her at the “marathon,” a likely reference to ‘Mafiathon 3.’ Fivio then admitted that not getting invited made him feel overlooked and unliked.

Trump vows 100% tariff on foreign movies, levies on furniture – National

The United States will impose a 100 per cent tariff on movies made outside the country, along with foreign-made furniture, U.S. President Donald Trump said in a social media post.

However, it is not immediately clear how such tariffs, particularly those on movies, could work.

The “movie making business has been stolen from the United States of America, by other Countries,” Trump said.

Trump blamed California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

“California, with its weak and incompetent Governor, has been particularly hard hit!”

“Therefore, in order to solve this long time, never ending problem, I will be imposing a 100% Tariff on any and all movies that are made outside of the United States. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DJT,” Trump posted on his own social media platform Truth Social.

Robert Redford, A House of Dynamite, Foreign Oscar Race — Screen Talk

by jummy84 September 20, 2025
written by jummy84

Much like “Screen Talk” podcast co-host Ryan Lattanzio felt after leaving Kathryn Bigelow’s nuclear missile thriller “A House of Dynamite” at Venice — which he rave-reviewed — Anne Thompson left a recent L.A. screening of the movie with her heart pounding in her chest.

Written by Noah Oppenheim, Bigelow’s real-time thriller about the banalities and actualities of a fictional-in-premise-only nuclear attack on the United States is Netflix’s best horse in the race at the Oscars this year. The film stars Rebecca Ferguson, Jared Harris, Idris Elba, Jonah Hauer-King, Anthony Ramos, Moses Ingram, Tracy Letts, and more — and while its ensemble will likely be left out of acting categories, the movie will play well to Oscar voters and audiences when it drops on Netflix in October. The streamer will give this gripping and intense film — which is a cautionary letter about the nuclear stockpile across the world — a theatrical, qualifying play in theaters starting October 10.

On this week’s “Screen Talk” episode, we also remember the great Robert Redford, the filmmaker and actor and Sundance founder who died at home in Utah at the age of 89 on Tuesday. We each pick our favorite Redford movies: While Anne argues that “Out of Africa,” the 1985 Best Picture-winning romance he directed and starred in with Meryl Streep, has aged better than Alan J. Pakula’s timely (!) journalism thriller “All the President’s Men” from 1976, Ryan advocates for “The Way We Were” as a career-best Redford performance. He starred in that Sydney Pollack-directed film as a WASP opposite Barbra Streisand as a Marxist Jewish woman. From college on, they never could make their relationship work. But Pollack knew how to make commercial appeal and filmmaking artistry work at the same time.

We also discuss the latest, headline-dominating news that Jimmy Kimmel has been pulled from late-night airing by ABC after he made allegedly erroneous comments about conservative activist Charlie Kirk. What does it mean for free speech on television? It’s not looking good. Much like the situation with Stephen Colbert getting axed from airwaves amid the Paramount-Skydance merger, there’s another combination of mega broadcasting forces at play here: Nexstar, America’s largest local TV broadcasting group, is amid a merger with similarly local-TV-operating Tegna. Both are in the FCC’s pocket, which is in turn in President Trump’s pocket.

This week’s “Screen Talk” also breaks down the major players in the Best International Feature Oscar race. France, due to its production stake in the film, has officially submitted Iranian director Jafar Panahi’s Palme d’Or-winner “It Was Just an Accident” for the Academy Award. The country stands a good chance at a nomination, and possibly a win, after years of being snubbed. France could have won this year for “Emilia Pérez” until, well, we know what happened there. Other strong contenders include “The President’s Cake” from Iraq (a Sony Pictures Classics release), Norway’s “Sentimental Value” (Neon), and Brazil’s “The Secret Agent” (also Neon), though this is a category that is ever hard to predict. The deadline for submissions is October 1.

Ram Gopal Varma says many ‘dumb’ dog lovers treat dog bites as love bites: ‘Same people are buying foreign breeds’ | Bollywood

Ram Gopal Varma has issued a strong note for dog lovers calling him a ‘dog hater’ after he backed the Supreme Court order on stray dogs a few days ago.

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has issued a strong note on a section of social media that called him a ‘dog hater’ after he backed the decision of the Supreme Court to move all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR to shelters within eight weeks. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), RGV said that the stray dog menace has gone too far to be ignored and the solutions need to strike a ‘balance’ of compassion with practicality.

Ram Gopal Varma said that the stray dog menace has gone too far.

What Ram Gopal Varma said

In his note, Ram Gopal Varma wrote, “To all those DUMB DOG LOVERS out there, who think I am a DOG HATER, I say this. Are you so blind, deaf and brain-dead that you can’t see children being bitten, mauled and killed on CCTV videos all over the place? Can’t you f…ing read the official reports on exploding rabies cases? It is common sense that in any emergency—fire, flood, riots, etc, you first deal with the immediate dangers, before holding debates on the root causes and long-term solutions…. The Supreme Court order is not some abstract policy note, but it is a blunt acknowledgement that the stray dog menace has gone extremely too far and human lives have to be saved on a priority level.”

‘Tell the dog lovers to take stray dogs’

He went on to add that there are several dog lovers who treat the dog bites as ‘love bites’. He said, “Coming to adoption, the dog lovers who cry hoarse about compassion are the same people buying foreign breeds to keep them in luxury houses which are well looked after by expensive vets. Just try to tell the dog lovers to take stray dogs in exchange for their pedigree breeds…While feeding, many dog lovers get bitten themselves but don’t report it, treating it as a “love bite.” But rabies spreads silently through these uncontrolled packs, endangering the entire neighbourhood.”

He continued that the stray dog problem in India is real and that to combat this issue, the solutions must balance compassion with practicality, which will depend on both the existing infrastructure and local attitudes.

On August 11, a bench of Justices Pardiwala and R Mahadevan took a stern view of the stray dog problem and ordered the Delhi-NCR to start removing stray dogs from all localities and house them in dedicated dog shelters to be set up by civic authorities. In the last few days, multiple protests have been held in the city over the past few days, demanding that the SC’s order be withdrawn.
