Step inside $1 billion Grand Egyptian Museum: From first-ever display of Tutankhamun’s entire tomb to 50,000 artefacts

For centuries, Egypt has mesmerised the world with its timeless wonders, the pyramids, the Sphinx, and the tales of mighty pharaohs. Adding to its list of iconic landmarks, the country is now set to open the long-awaited Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), a modern marvel that promises to redefine the way the world experiences ancient history. The museum will officially open its doors to the public in Cairo on November 4, 2025. What makes the Grand Egyptian Museum a modern wonder

Spanning a staggering 500,000 square metres, roughly the size of 70 football fields, this $1.2 billion architectural masterpiece is one of the largest museums ever built. It will showcase around 100,000 artefacts that trace over 7,000 years of Egyptian civilisation, from the pre-dynastic era to the Greco-Roman period.

But the museum’s biggest attraction is, without doubt, the complete collection of treasures from Tutankhamun’s tomb, displayed together for the first time in history, more than a century after their discovery.

Designed by Heneghan Peng Architects, an Irish firm, the museum’s striking, pyramid-inspired glass façade mirrors the grandeur of Giza’s ancient wonders nearby. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by the granite colossus of Ramesses the Great, a 36-foot-tall, 3,200-year-old statue that once stood in the heart of Cairo. Its commanding presence instantly sets the tone for the awe-inspiring journey ahead.

Inside, the facility boasts 258,000 square feet of permanent exhibition space, making it one of the largest museum interiors in the world. Beyond its galleries, the complex includes education and conference centres, a children’s museum, commercial zones, and what’s considered the world’s largest artefact conservation centre.

The museum’s 12 main galleries, opened last year, chronologically showcase Egypt’s evolution, from prehistoric artefacts to the Roman era. Many of these pieces were carefully relocated from Cairo’s century-old Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square.

Why is King Tutankhamun’s collection the star of the museum

According to the museum’s official Instagram handle, for the first time ever, all treasures belonging to King Tutankhamun, the 13th pharaoh of the Eighteenth Dynasty, are being displayed together under one roof. “For the first time in history, the complete treasure of King Tutankhamun stands reunited under one roof at the Grand Egyptian Museum,” the post reads.

His reign, between 1333 and 1323 BC, is often referred to as the golden age of ancient Egypt. Visitors can now witness the full splendour of the young pharaoh’s legacy, featuring over 5,000 artefacts, many of which are being showcased publicly for the first time.

Among these restored treasures are three funeral beds, six chariots, a golden throne, a gold-covered sarcophagus, and the legendary burial mask crafted from gold, quartzite, lapis lazuli, and coloured glass. “Some masterpieces were restored at the museum’s conservation centre, including the boy pharaoh’s three funeral beds and six chariots,” said Jailan Mohamed, chief restorer at the centre, in an interview with the Associated Press.

What other ancient wonders await visitors

Another unmissable exhibit is the 4,600-year-old solar boat of King Khufu, the pharaoh who built the Great Pyramid of Giza. Discovered in the 1950s and stretching 43 metres (140 feet) in length, the wooden vessel was buried beside the Great Pyramid to carry Khufu into the afterlife, a breathtaking reminder of ancient Egypt’s spiritual beliefs and craftsmanship.

The Egyptian government hopes that the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum will reinvigorate the country’s tourism sector, which suffered after the political unrest following the Arab Spring in 2011. In 2024 alone, Egypt welcomed 15.7 million tourists, and with the launch of this landmark attraction, both the government and locals anticipate a significant rise in global visitors.

Rise Launches First-Ever AV Elevate Programme: Empowering the Next Generation of Women Leaders in AV

by jummy84 October 30, 2025
written by jummy84

Rise AV, the advocacy group championing gender diversity and professional development in the AV sector, is proud to announce the delegates and mentors for its first-ever Elevate Programme. This pioneering six-week initiative is designed to accelerate the growth of high-potential women in the AV sector, equipping them with the skills, support, and confidence to step into leadership roles and thrive.

In an industry where women remain underrepresented, failing to invest in their development isn’t just a missed opportunity; it’s a business risk. Companies that ignore diversity stagnate, lose innovation, and fall behind. Elevate provides the antidote: a structured programme that strengthens leadership pipelines, nurtures ambitious women, and builds a resilient, future-ready workforce.

Delegates will embark on a journey that blends immersive learning with real-world application. Highlights include:

  • Interactive Learning Day: Covering leadership authenticity, communication, conflict resolution, motivation, and finance fundamentals.
  • Industry Challenges: Small-group challenges tackling real business problems, supported by experienced mentors.
  • Final Event: Presentations, coaching, and opportunities to sharpen collaboration and impact.
  • Toolkit: The delegates will develop practical resources that they can apply immediately in their role.

The full agenda can be found here:

Beyond skills, Elevate is about building networks and breaking cycles of self-doubt and burnout by creating a supportive community of peers and leaders.

Lululemon Teams Up With the NFL for First-Ever 32-Team Apparel Line

Lululemon Athletica has officially entered the licensed-fan apparel game by teaming up with the NFL to launch a collection covering all 32 teams.

Set to debut on October 28, the collection will span both men’s and women’s clothing and accessories. Items will feature team logos and draw from Lululemon’s iconic product lines—such as the men’s “Steady State” and the women’s “Define,” “Scuba,” and “Align” styles.

The rollout will happen across multiple channels: online via the NFL Shop and Fanatics platforms, in team retail stores, and internationally through localized NFL Shop sites.

For Lululemon, this marks its first foray into officially licensed NFL merchandise—moving beyond its usual yoga/athleisure stronghold and into more fan-centric sportswear.

The NFL views it as a way to bring fresher, higher-end apparel options to fans—beyond traditional jerseys—to capture a broader lifestyle-wear audience.

Stacey Jackson Breaks Ground with the First-Ever Musical Novel

Stacey Jackson Breaks Ground with the First-Ever Musical Novel

by jummy84 October 7, 2025
written by jummy84

When Stacey Jackson describes her new project, How a Gangsta Rapper Made Me a Better Mom (Integrated Musical Edition), she isn’t just announcing a book. She’s unveiling a format no one has ever attempted before a hybrid of fiction and original music that she hopes will transform the way audiences consume stories.

Each version connects story and song in real time through QR codes, hyperlinks, and embedded audio. “This is a first-of-its-kind format that fuses fiction with original music in real time,” Jackson explained.

The scope is ambitious. Alongside the novel, audiences will get The Original Book Soundtrack on streaming platforms and an Immersive Edition in spatial audio. Each chapter is paired with a track designed to heighten the emotion of the narrative. For the audiobook, those tracks are fully mastered and integrated within the storyline—making it one of the first audiobooks in history to deliver a cinematic, musical experience.

The idea stems from Jackson’s long-standing desire to merge storytelling with the euphoric energy of her music. Her dance anthems have climbed international charts, and collaborations with icons like Snoop Dogg cemented her place in the music world. But she wanted to do more than release singles; she wanted to reinvent the way stories could be told. “Everything I’m putting out this year is about truth and reinvention owning your story, even the messy bits,” she said. “Blinded By Goodbye might sound like a breakup anthem, but it’s really about that blink moment when the rug gets pulled out and you decide to stand up anyway sparkles and all”.

It’s fitting that her debut musical novel is rooted in resilience. The book explores identity, motherhood, and the surprising lessons Jackson learned through her unconventional journey in entertainment. The music deepens that narrative, echoing themes of heartbreak, empowerment, and survival. “Pain can be fierce,” she reflected. “And it’s euphoric because healing doesn’t have to be quiet. Sometimes you just need to blast a breakup banger and shake it off with a little glitter and a lot of bass”.

For Jackson, this format also reflects her Gen X identity a generation she champions on her podcast The Gen-X-Perience. “We were reinventing ourselves long before it became a branding strategy,” she explained. “The show dives into those layered stories of reinvention that wasn’t loud but was powerful, resilient, and often hilariously messy”. That same ethos of resilience and reinvention threads through her musical novel, proving that she’s not only telling stories for her generation but also innovating how they’re told.

By being the first to integrate book publishing and music this way, Jackson is doing more than experimenting she’s setting a precedent. This launch isn’t just a release; it’s the beginning of a new storytelling format that could inspire other creators to merge mediums. “This pioneering format signals a new era for readers and listeners alike where storytelling is no longer bound to the page, but fully brought to life through music”.

written by jummy84

From career milestones to new music releases to major announcements and those little important moments, Billboard editors highlight uplifting moments in Latin music. Here’s what happened in the Latin music world this week.

Sergio George’s Google Doodle

Earlier this week, Google launched its first-ever global Doodle dedicated to salsa, curated by renowned producer, pianist and arranger Sergio George. The initiative marks an “unprecedented recognition of a genre born in Latino communities that went on to conquer stages and celebrations around the world,” according to a press release. The tribute comes just days before George presents his first Salsa Festival, ¡ATACA SERGIO!, at Miami’s Kaseya Center on Sept. 21.

The Doodle debuted as an animated music video honoring Hispanic Heritage Month with a remix of five salsa anthems, including “I Like It” by Pete Rodríguez and “Mi Gente” by Héctor Lavoe. The Doodle also showcases iconic salsa instruments such as the piano, conga, trombone, clave, and güiro. The project was brought to life under the creative direction of Jorge R. Canedo E. and Sergio George.

The Doodle is accompanied by a playlist of salsa hits titled DAME MÁS SALSA, which includes 15 tracks produced by Sergio George.

Karol G’s Con Cora Foundation Initiatives

The Colombian star, who will be headlining Coachella next year, announced two new projects in Colombia for her Con Cora Foundation. Karol G took to social media to unveil the construction of Santa Fe de Icotea College in Maria la Baja, Bolivar and Casa Con Cora in Medellin, a safe space for women and girls in vulnerable situations.

“They’re the kind of achievements that make me feel like everything I do has a purpose because behind them are incredible stories of struggles and hopes that touch me deeply,” she captioned the Instagram post. See the developments here.

BMI Hosts “Las Compositoras+” Songwriting Camp

BMI recently hosted the “Las Compositoras+” song camp as part of its “commitment to supporting its songwriters and amplifying diverse voices in música mexicana,” according to a press statement. The three-day creative retreat was in partnership with songwriter Erika Vidrio, who led the songwriting sessions. Held in Los Angeles, the camp united a lineup of emerging and established talent, including Paulina B, Celimar, Amanda Coronel, Delilah, Lupita Infante, Michelle Maciel, Karen Moon and Ashlee Valenzuela.

“The Las Compositoras+ song camp is about fostering collaboration, supporting our songwriters and building a creative community,” Lilibeth Patron, BMI’s associate director, creative, Latin, said in a statement. “Together, with the support of our sponsors, we were able to provide a platform and create a unique experience for female songwriters and creators in the LGBTQ+ community in música mexicana.”

2025 Latin Music Week Lineup

On Thursday, Billboard unveiled the full lineup for the 2025 Billboard Latin Music Week, returning to The Fillmore Miami Beach from Oct. 20 to 24.

Joining the star-studded roster of the week-long event are Aitana, Christian Alicea, Danny Ocean, Ivy Queen, Lenny Tavárez, Luck Ra, Lupita Infante, Olga Tañón, Rawayana, Silvestre Dangond, Suzette Quintanilla, Tokischa and Yailin, to name a few.

The new additions were announced during a press conference in Miami. “We are thrilled to be back with our biggest Latin Music Week ever — 32 panels, more than 100 guests, including the artists, executives and content creators most relevant,” Leila Cobo, chief content officer of Billboard Latin/Español, said then. “The Fillmore is not just a beautiful theater, but history has been made here. Every artist of note has performed here.”

See the full lineup here.

Regional Mexican GOATs

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, which officially kicked off Sept. 15, Billboard Latin and Billboard Español editors rolled out the 75 Best Regional Mexican Acts of All Time, announcing Nos. 75-61.
