Avatar: The Way of Water returns to theaters with new Fire and Ash footage. Here’s what to know

written by jummy84

James Cameron’s Avatar universe is set to return to the theaters once again with the re-release of Avatar: The Way of Water. The movie will be re-released worldwide on October 3, giving audiences another chance to experience the breathtaking visuals of Pandora on the big screen. This time, however, there is an added incentive: never-before-seen footage from the upcoming sequel, Avatar: Fire and Ash, reported Variety.

‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ is returning to theaters this October(X)

A unique experience for Avatar fans

According to the report, unlike typical re-releases that feature a single teaser, The Way of Water screenings will each feature one of three exclusive clips from Avatar: Fire and Ash. That means fans who want to see all of the new footage may have to attend multiple screenings, making the re-release an event designed for die-hard enthusiasts.

Each clip, as per Variety report, will reveal a different aspect of Pandora’s story, offering fresh insight into the challenges awaiting Jake Sully, Neytiri, and their family in the next chapter.

The legacy of Avatar

At over $2.9 billion worldwide, James Cameron’s 2009 original Avatar is still the highest-grossing movie ever. With a $2.3 billion box office total, its 2022 sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, is currently the third highest-grossing film of all time, behind only its predecessor and Avengers: Endgame.

By presenting Jake and Neytiri’s kids, introducing new Na’vi clans, and pushing the limits of visual effects with innovative underwater scenes, the second movie broadened the scope of Pandora. The tragic death of Jake’s oldest son, Neteyam, was part of the story’s emotional climax, which left viewers wanting more, Collider reported.

What we know about Avatar: Fire and Ash

While Jake and Neytiri begin their life with their family in a new Na’vi group called the Ash People, a violent conflict could run high, throwing Pandora into uncertainty: visual marvels and deep emotional engagement seem to be the focus of this film.

Actors Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, and Edie Falco return to challenge new spells by Oona Chaplin and David Thewlis. The film is directed by James Cameron and jointly produced by Jon Landau and Cameron himself, with an official release date set for December 19 worldwide.

High expectations for the sequel

Due to the colossal success of the first two films, the expectations for Fire and Ash are sky-high. The strategy of sneak peeks is Disney’s way of ensuring that the excitement builds and stays up until the release. The saga, backed with advanced technology, is in itself the living definition of a cinematic spectacle underdefined by Cameron.

FAQs:

Q1: When will Avatar: The Way of Water return to theatres?

It will be re-released worldwide on October 3, 2025.

Q2: What is special about this re-release?

Each screening includes a never-before-seen clip from Avatar: Fire and Ash. There are three different clips in total, but each screening will feature only one.

Q3: When will Avatar: Fire and Ash release?

The film is set to premiere worldwide on December 19, 2025.

Who is Brendan Carr, FCC head under fire for Jimmy Kimmel suspension? – National

by jummy84 September 20, 2025
written by jummy84

ABC took comic Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show off the air indefinitely Wednesday, just hours after Federal Communications Commission chairman Brendan Carr called his comments about Charlie Kirk’s assassination “truly sick.”

Carr is a longtime FCC commissioner named as chairman by President Donald Trump in November. In the months since, he has launched investigations of ABC, CBS and NBC news.

“Americans no longer trust the legacy national news media to report fully, accurately, and fairly. It is time for a change,” Carr said in July, after the FCC approved CBS owner Paramount’s $8 billion merger with Skydance.

Here’s what to know about Carr:

Carr is a longtime FCC commissioner

The FCC regulates broadcasting, telecommunications and broadband.

Carr was already a longtime member of the commission and served previously as the FCC’s general counsel. He was unanimously confirmed by the Senate three times and both Trump and President Joe Biden nominated him to the commission.

Before joining the commission as a staff member in 2012, he worked as an attorney at Wiley Rein LLP and clerked on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

He has more recently embraced Trump’s ideas about social media and tech. He wrote a section devoted to the FCC in “Project 2025,” a sweeping blueprint for gutting the federal workforce and dismantling federal agencies in a second Trump administration produced by the conservative Heritage Foundation. Trump has claimed he didn’t know anything about Project 2025, but many of its themes have aligned with his statements.

Carr appeared to acknowledge a connection between what happened to Kimmel and “Project 2025” with a GIF on social media Wednesday.

The FCC takes on broadcast networks

In March, Carr said he was opening an investigation into Walt Disney Co. and ABC to see whether they are “promoting invidious forms of DEI discrimination.” He also opened separate investigations into CBS and NBC news.

Talking about the Kimmel situation on Fox News Wednesday, he said broadcasters with FCC licenses have “a unique obligation to operate in the public interest. And over the years, the FCC walked away from enforcing that public interest obligation. I don’t think we’re better off as a country for it.”

In July, he hailed the Paramount-Skydance merger as an opportunity to bring more balance to “once-storied” CBS.

FCC approval of the merger came after months of turmoil around Trump’s legal battle with the CBS program “60 Minutes.” With the specter of the Trump administration potentially blocking the deal, Paramount agreed to a $16 million settlement with the president.

CBS then announced it was canceling Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show” just days after the comedian sharply criticized the settlement on air. Paramount cited financial reasons, but big names both within and outside the company have questioned those motives.

Shortly before the FCC approved the merger, Paramount agreed to hire an ombudsman at CBS News to investigate complaints of political bias. The job went to Kenneth Weinstein, the former head of a conservative think tank who has made several donations to Republican causes, including President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign.

On Wednesday, Carr said Kimmel appeared to be making an intentional effort to mislead the public that conservative activist Kirk’s assassin was a right-wing Trump supporter. He called Kimmel’s comments about Kirk’s death “truly sick” and said his agency has a strong case for holding Kimmel, ABC and Disney accountable for spreading misinformation.

Kirk, a top conservative podcaster, was shot and killed last week at an appearance on a college campus in Utah.

Kimmel made several remarks about the reaction to Kirk’s death last week on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” including that “many in MAGA land are working very hard to capitalize on the murder of Charlie Kirk.”

“This is a very, very serious issue right now for Disney,” Carr said on the Benny Johnson podcast. “We can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to take action on Kimmel or there is going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”

House Democratic leaders on Thursday called for Carr’s resignation and accused him of “bullying” ABC into suspending Kimmel.

In a joint statement, the leaders — including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries — said the move was part of Trump and Republicans’ effort to wage a “war on the First Amendment.”

“I’ve spent my entire life trying to escape… But after a few years, my life turned to shame… Maybe I could earn a second chance.” Apple TV has debuted another chilling full-length trailer for the forest fire thriller The Lost Bus, made by acclaimed director Paul Greengrass. After premiering at TIFF (to very positive reviews), it’s opening in theaters first this weekend – before streaming on Apple TV+ in October. Inspired by real events, The Lost Bus is a white-knuckle ride into one of the scariest wildfires as a school bus driver (played by Matthew McConaughey) and school teacher (America Ferrera) save 22 children from the inferno. It also explores what went wrong in California’s Camp Fire in 2018, America’s deadliest wildfire in a century (85 were killed), and how to prevent future tragedies, also including the story of a bus driver & school teacher who helped kids through the blaze. In addition to McConaughey & Ferrera, the cast includes Yul Vazquez, Ashlie Atkinson, and Spencer Watson. Yet another haunting forest fire movie following Kosinski’s Only the Brave (in 2017) and Rebuilding Paradise about this same fire. This is the best trailer yet – better than other official trailer! Looking like it might actually be damn good. Greengrass delivering again.

Here’s the official trailer (+ two posters) for Paul Greengrass’ film The Lost Bus, direct from YouTube:

New Trailer for ‘St. Elmo’s Fire’ 4K Re-Release for its 40th Anniversary

by Alex Billington

Source: YouTube

“All I can remember… is the seven of us always together.” Sony Pictures has revealed a brand new trailer to celebrate the 40th Anniversary re-release of the 80s classic film St. Elmo’s Fire, a story about life and love and friendship made by Joel Schumacher. This is a big favorite among Gen Xers, an important film for the time – first released in June 1985. The Brat Pack is BACK. Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of St. Elmo’s Fire, newly restored in 4K and back in select theaters starting on October 17th this fall. A group of friends, just out of college, struggle with adulthood. Seven friends – Alec, Billy, Jules, Kevin, Kirby, Leslie, Wendy – are trying to navigate through life & their friendships following graduation from Washington DC’s Georgetown University while often at their ol’ dive known as St. Elmo’s Bar. Starring Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, Emilio Estevez, Mare Winningham, Andie MacDowell. Critics don’t seem to like this film much. One review states that the film reminds “us that the eighties were far, far worse than any of us can recall today, and by helping these monsters get their careers off the ground, we will be paying for our sins for decades to come.” Ouch! They’re not so bad. Anyone else enjoy this movie?

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Joel Schumacher’s film St. Elmo’s Fire, direct from YouTube:

St. Elmo's Fire Poster

The hottest young actors of the day star in this film about seven friends, recent college grads, searching for a place in “the real world,” as they face the issues of career & commitment. Leslie & Alex (Ally Sheedy & Judd Nelson) try to save a crumbling romance. Wendy (Mare Winningham), a shy virgin, hides a love for Billy (Rob Lowe), a reluctant father still searching for goals. Kevin (Andrew McCarthy) is a cynical writer who scorns love until he realizes he’s in love with his best friend’s girl. Kirbo (Emilio Estevez), law student, obsessively pursues an older woman. The beautiful, neurotic Jules (Demi Moore) paints a poignant picture of life in the fast lane. Against the backdrop of St. Elmo’s, their local hang-out, they save, betray and love one another as only the closest friends can. St. Elmo’s Fire is directed by filmmaker Joel Schumacher, his sixth feature film at the time after making D.C. Cab (1983) and before making The Lost Boys (1987). The screenplay is by Joel Schumacher & Carl Kurlander. This first opened in theaters in late June, 1985 during the summer – earning a solid $37M at the box office during its run. Sony will re-release Schumacher’s St. Elmo’s Fire film in 4K in select US theaters starting October 17th, 2025 this fall. Any big fans of this one?

Ondi Timoner's Altadena Fire Short All the Walls Came Down

Ondi Timoner’s Altadena Fire Short All the Walls Came Down

by jummy84 August 31, 2025
written by jummy84

Ondi Timoner doesn’t sit around. She was prepping a documentary feature about the Nazis in Budapest when she found out her house of 14 years had burned down in the Altadena fire. And she kept on shooting. Now more than ever she realizes that home is her work. And sure enough, when she got back to Altadena and started to deal with the myriad of things (insurance, rebuilding), she kept recording her life. It’s who she is.

She wasn’t really finished with her latest short, “All the Walls Came Down,” when we talked on Zoom from her new digs in Joshua Tree. “Even though everything I’ve created, most of my archives are gone, I can still go and make something else now that’s new,” she said. “I do take refuge in the stories I’m telling, they helped me to order the chaos, and to find the silver lining. When I’m dealing with trauma, I record it, so I could, one day, possibly make something, make lemonade out of lemons. If I don’t record and have the matter with which to practice that form of alchemy, there’s not even an option. So I’m lucky enough that I have friends who have cameras, and I had with me a couple of cameras. I lost so many cameras, like lenses and tripods and all my lighting, but I had a couple cameras in my suitcase because I was in Europe.”

Jude Law at the 'The Wizard Of The Kremlin' (Le Mage Du Kremlin) red carpet at The 82nd Venice International Film Festival on August 31, 2025 in Venice, Italy.

Timoner shocked herself with the speed of the edit. “I truly have never edited anything so fast,” she said. “It just came flying out. It shocked my whole team.” She submitted the short late, way past the deadline, but festival director Julie Huntsinger accepted it anyway. Now Timoner is rushing to finish it in time. “All the Walls Came Down” premieres Sunday.

The toughest moment for Timoner was landing in LA and not being able to go home. “I was in a real state,” she said. “And it was tough, but I knew to film because of ‘Last Flight Home.’” That film was an intimate (and healing) family chronicle of her father’s death by euthanasia.

Timoner started filming her razed home as well as her brother’s, and reached out to her neighbors. “Here we are all in this pile,” she said, “and I’m processing, trying to make sense of the whole thing. What is all of this going to come to? And what is this about? What can I learn about this as somebody right in the middle of it, going through it myself, that I can share with other people?”

As we talk, Timoner realizes that she wants to add the last picture she ever took in the house. She’s still fussing with the edit. “Many of us are going to have to deal with this [climate crisis] on some level,” she said, “whether it’s floods or fire or earthquake. The climate is not happy.”

As Timoner talked to her neighbors she recognized that she was coming from a relative place of privilege. “We’re all under-insured,” she said. “They still haven’t paid me to my property limits, even though I lost literally all the property that I insured. They also owe us money for rent. They haven’t paid any of it. The reality is, I’m a working director who has made films that people care about, at least to an extent, that I can survive right now.”

Altadena resident and activist Heavenly Hughes of My Tribe Rise told Timoner: “You moved into a Black community, we’re not a priority.” Timoner was shocked. “I felt such white blindness,”she said. “How naive I am to think that because I pay my taxes, I expect a fire truck, emergency services, at least, to evacuate my neighbors and my community, but there was nothing. And now it’s been proven.”

Timoner’s West Altadena neighborhood didn’t get fire trucks. Her mother’s closer to downtown did.

So Timoner started filming her neighbors. “Everyone has different circumstances, even if we live in the same spot, even if we’re walking our dogs down the same street and loving the same peacocks and loving the same town,” she said. “We shared a deep love for Altadena. When the title of the film came to me, is that the walls came down and these relationships have blossomed, just like the grass that’s springing out of the ground, despite all of this, you’ll see fresh growth. The garden we’re creating, it’s a community determined to maintain its integrity in the face of a massive move toward gentrification. This land is very valuable.”

“All the Walls Came Down” shows that all insurance is not created equal. One family in the film was about to lose everything, but Heavenly Hughes and others are fighting back. “There are people living in their cars, who were not homeless,” said Timoner. “There are people who have lived there for decades and decades, who have lost all of their generational wealth, and they need help right now. It’s an urgent situation, and it’s something that we read in the news and such, but the power of film is to take audiences beneath the headlines, to actually meet the people who live there, who are going through whatever they’re going through.”

Timoner is looking for a distributor, and will give any profits toward Altadena’s recovery. The film will open at the Glendale Laemmle on September 12 for a qualifying run, complete with a birthday celebration for Hughes.

Shawn Hatosy Spotted on the Set of CBS’s ‘Fire Country’

by jummy84 August 28, 2025
written by jummy84

Shawn Hatosy seems to be everywhere these days. But what is he doing on the set of Fire Country?

Recently, the actor starred on HBO’s The Pitt as Dr. Jack Abbot, a role that earned him his first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series. Before the medical series, he starred on TNT’s Animal Kingdom, where he played Andrew “Pope” Cody. He also appeared in a handful of episodes as Deputy Chief Charlie Reid on Chicago P.D. and did a stint on Rescue: HI-Surf, just to name a few.

Now, if that isn’t enough, the actor seems to be heading over to Northern California to lend a hand to the California Conservation Camp Program.

In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter) from user @theroyaImess, the actor was shown palling around with the cast and crew of CBS’s Fire Country. Shawn was seen tossing a medicine ball in a short video that was paired with the caption: “Today I give you a little game of “catch” of @firecountrycbs ’cause our stories are always more intense than your average tv show.”

— tina 💜 (@theroyaImess) August 28, 2025

Though nothing has been confirmed by either the actor nor reps of the show, it has sent fans into a tizzy has why the good doctor is on the set.

“It is! Kicks feet giggling,” wrote one fan in response.

“hello mr fireman,” wrote another.

The Max Thieriot-led drama follows the journey of Bode Donovan, a young ex-con who must earn redemption by volunteering for a prison-release firefighting initiative. Cocreated by Thieriot, the series stars Kevin Alejandro, Jordan Calloway, Jules Latimer, and Diane Farr. And not Hatosy.

Cradle Of Filth fire guitarist a day after his wife quits band

Cradle Of Filth fire guitarist a day after his wife quits band

by jummy84 August 27, 2025
written by jummy84

Cradle Of Filth have announced the firing of guitarist Marek “Ashok” Šmerda – find out more below.

Last night, Cradle Of Filth and frontman Dani Filth took to social media to announce that they have fired Šmerda with immediate effect. The post came hours after Šmerda shared his own posts announcing that he would be leaving Cradle Of Filth at the end of their current tour.

His wife, Zoe Marie Federoff who was also in the band as keyboardist, also left the band mid-tour a day before Šmerda’s announcement. The couple cited “certain events” within the band as their reasons for wanting to leave.

Šmerda’s post revealed that the couple “do not feel like Cradle can provide for our future, and in fact hinders it. Among other reasons it is a lot of work for relatively low pay, the stress is quite high, and we haven’t felt for a while like this band actually prioritizing/caring about members. It has been years of unprofessional behavior from people above us that led to our decision.”

In response, Cradle Of Filth and Dani Filth have fired Šmerda with immediate effect. Filth wrote, addressing Šmerda’s and Federoof’s exits: “Thank you for your understanding in this horrible matter, we are all in a state of shock over proceedings and will share our side to these unfortunate events in due course. Please, respect our decision to part with Ashok now rather than at the end of the tour and avoid speculation as more clarity on the situation will be provided.”

“The rest of the band are cool, even if taken aback, and accusations toward management, who work very closely with me and the band are completely unjust and unfounded. Patience is a virtue and the truth will always come out.”

The band also confirmed that they will be proceeding with the rest of their tour despite being short of one guitarist and “all attempts to illegally defame and derail the band”.

It is currently unclear if Dani and Cradle Of Filth are seeking legal action against the couple for their “illegal” attempts at “defamation”.

Additionally, Šmerda has asked that his contributions to the band’s future releases, including the long-gestating collaboration with Ed Sheeran, be scrapped: “I have also asked all compositions of mine removed from upcoming releases including Ed Sheeran collab. This song feels like foolish clown antics for me at this point anyways- first it was charity single for kids, then for profit single, then on next album, and now who knows and I just do not want to be involved anymore, no disrespect to Ed Sheeran.”

The Ed Sheeran collaboration has been in the works for several years, dating all the way back to 2021. Work on the track was progressing in 2022 according to Filth, with that then being halted due to Sheeran becoming a father. Filth was then pictured at the pub with Sheeran and producer Scott Atkins in late 2022, with a tentative release date of summer 2023 then set.

Earlier this year, Dani Filth continued to talk up the collaboration, saying the track was “done and dusted”, but would later leave it off the band’s latest record.

Federoff joined Cradle of Filth in 2022, and was a part of the line-up when they shared their latest album ‘The Screaming Of The Valkyries’ in March 2025. Šmerda has been in the group for over a decade. They announced their engagement to celebrate New Year’s Day 2024, and officially tied the knot earlier this year – with Dani Filth in attendance.
