What Did Jeremy Renner Do? What Filmmaker Yi Zhou Accused Him of – Hollywood Life

Jeremy Renner made headlines in November 2025 when a filmmaker named Yi Zhou accused the 54-year-old actor of sending her unolicited sexual DMs and threatening to call Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on her. Renner adamantly denied Zhou’s allegations and fired back with a cease-and-desist letter, accusing the director of sending him multiple explicit messages.

Below, Hollywood Life has compiled the whole story so far between Renner and Zhou.

Who Is Yi Zhou?

Zhou is a 37-year-old Chinese director, writer, producer and model. Known for her documentary Between Stars and Scars: Masters of Cinema, the London School of Economics graduate has been in the film and performing arts industry for nearly 20 years.

As a model, Zhou has appeared in campaigns for Vogue, Uomo Vogue and Elle and was on the cover of Vogue China Beauty among other publications around the world.

Zhou has also dabbled in entrepreneurial ventures, starting her lifestyle and fashion brand, Global Intuition, in 2019. She has also launched entertainment companies, including Into the Sun in the U.S. and in Italy.

What Did Jeremy Renner Allegedly Do?

Zhou accused Renner of sending her sexual DMs and WhatsApp messages over the summer of 2025. According to multiple outlets, Zhou claimed in a series of posts that Renner told her he was “open to a long-term relationship.”

“I believed in him, in the power of love and in the possibility of redemption,” Zhou wrote about Renner. “When I called him out privately about his past misconduct and asked him to behave properly, to respect me as a woman and as a filmmaker, he threatened to call immigration/ICE on me.”

Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye, Mayor of Kingstown) threatened to call ICE on his Chinese filmmaker partner in September, she told me.

I was shocked when I saw the text messages.

— Josh Boswell (@JoshTBoswell) November 6, 2025

Renner, however, vehemently denied the accusations and sent Zhou a cease-and-desist letter after she went public with her claims in November 2025, according to TMZ. Renner’s attorney, Marty Singer, claimed Zhou came onto Renner and that when she allegedly tried to pull a move on him again in August 2025, he made sure she stayed in the guest room. Renner’s attorney also claimed that Zhou sent the actor explicit, sexual messages. Renner also threatened to take legal action.

Were Jeremy Renner & Yi Zhou in a Relationship?

Renner claimed that he and Zhou had a “brief consensual encounter,” and that he had rejected Zhou’s advances in August 2025, a month after they first met to discuss her documentary Chronicles of Disney.

Who Is Jeremy Renner’s Ex-Wife?

Renner’s ex-wife is Canadian actress Sonni Pacheco. The former spouses share their daughter, Ava, together. Renner and Pacheco were married from 2014 to 2015.

Sunni Pacheco’s Allegations Against Jeremy Renner: What She Accused Him of

After Renner and Pacheco initially agreed on joint custody of their daughter, Ava. However, four years after their divorce, Pacheco filed a request for physical custody of Ava and asked for monitored visitation whenever Renner had their daughter, according to several outlets. Pacheco later accused Renner of several alarming actions, including allegedly threatening to end her life and put a gun in his own mouth before aiming to fire it up toward the ceiling, per TMZ.

Renner denied Pacheco’s claims. A rep for the MCU star told TMZ that the “well-being of his daughter, Ava, has always been and continues to be the primary focus for Jeremy. This is a matter for the court to decide. It’s important to note the dramatizations made in Sonni’s declaration are a one-sided account made with a specific goal in mind.”

‘Hedda’ Director Nia DaCosta — Filmmaker Interview

by jummy84 October 30, 2025
written by jummy84

Nia DaCosta has had a version of Hedda Gabler living, or perhaps lounging, in her head for a long time. The writer and director first started thinking about a film adaptation of the Henrik Ibsen play in 2012, while she was getting a masters in the UK, and first took a stab at writing it in 2018, after the release of her debut feature “Little Woods.” But even as DaCosta dove into worlds fantastical and strange in “Candyman” and “The Marvels,” every six months or so, she’d take “Hedda” out of the drawer to fiddle with it.

On a recent episode of the Filmmaker Toolkit Podcast, DaCosta told IndieWire that continuing to play with the script wasn’t just about calibrating the levels of performance, repression, and passion simmering just beneath the characters’ exteriors. Her approach to film adaptation requires looking closely not just at the text and how it can matter to the times we’re in, but why it matters to the person doing the adaptation.

Pascal Bonitzer's Auction

“It’s what keeps classical works alive. You have to adapt it not just for the time but for the person that you are and for whatever impact — emotionally, psychologically, existentially — it had on you, because that means something,” DaCosta said. “I think if you can transfer not just the play and what it means but also your reaction to the play and how you feel about the play to your version of it, I think that’s super important.”

DaCosta’s “Hedda,” then, uproots from Norway to a post-war English manner, indulging in all of the gloss and repression of the era and pinning the characters in emotional hedge-mazes of their own making — as well as, of course, a literal hedge-maze that is not as great a makeout spot as it might at first appear. Offstage events get to be shown and experienced vividly through cinematographer Sean Bobbitt’s buzzed but still sharply observant roving camera. Tessa Thompson’s Hedda gets to be imperious at the very instant she enters a room, taking up a queen’s share of the frame in costume designer Lindsay Pugh’s dresses and expertly navigating the hidden corners of production designer Cara Bower’s sets.

DaCosta is always adjusting the dials, whether it’s through the visual language and the amount of light we see lining up with Hedda’s whims or through the blocking and pacing of the film’s shifts between humor, desire, and darker character impulses. “You have to really be clear with the cast and crew about what the tone is for each scene in each moment and how we’re shifting into the next gear. That’s all calibrating, modulating, in rehearsals, on the day, in the edit,” DaCosta said.

But every shift in the tone of the film arises out of DaCosta’s feeling about the protagonist. “I think she’s funny. I think she’s horrifying. I think she’s vicious. I think she’s vulnerable,” DaCosta said. “So we can go from farcical, like, chandelier falling and Eileen [Nina Hoss] getting into a fight in the conservatory, but it’s all fueled by real emotion. I think it’s so important to be able to do that.”

It’s important to DaCosta because for however heightened and glamorous a setting as the film builds, the director wanted to balance it with the real, eternally relatable experience of wild shit going down at a party.

“The tone shifts were me trying to mirror, like, when you’re at a party and the lesbian drama’s happening somewhere, it seeps into the rest of the party and you’re like, ‘Oh no.’ It goes from being super fun to being, ‘Oh god, who just came out of the bedroom with — oh, that’s not good. Oh my God. Oh, what happened? That’s hilarious.’ You know? It just is the way we are, and I knew that for ‘Hedda’ it had to feel as dynamic as real life,” DaCosta said.

Real life on film, however, requires a lot of rehearsal. “ I studied writing at a drama school because I wanted to work with actors — to learn more about how they work, what their whole deal is, what’s wrong with ’em,” DaCosta joked. “I realize that what’s so beautiful about theater and what I love actually about telling stories is the collaboration… you know, I’m the coxswain at the head of the boat, making sure we’re going in the right direction, telling everyone, ‘OK, go fast, go slower,’ et cetera. And rehearsals, for me, are about making sure the script is right. Then my DP and I are blocking everything out with the actors.”

DaCosta’s found that in slowly bringing the cast and crew together, starting with Bobbitt but then sometimes camera operator Simon Wood or others, a collaborative process can emerge to help the company adapt to the space and come up with exciting character work that just feels real.

“We got to rehearse in the house with all the set dressing in the house for two weeks before we started shooting, so it was the ideal thing. For example, the scene with Eileen walking in with her dress wet and exposed, talking to the men, I want her to really play the room and use the whole space. So we were like, ‘OK, maybe she makes the martini here, and then, should she light a cigarette here?’”

But the process of working all of that out helped DaCosta and her cast know exactly when and where Eileen should light a cigarette for maximum impact. “We [decided that] should have this moment with her and George [Tom Bateman], and George being so enraptured by her. Let’s bring her next to George. Oh he can’t light a cigarette. Let’s have that be a moment. Let’s have her light it.  And then, [the scene is] slow building and it’s just so fun and gratifying.”

“Hedda” is now playing in theaters and streaming on Prime Video.

Shah Rukh Khan takes a jab at Karan Johar, asks ‘Are you running for ‘Ozempic’? Filmmaker has the perfect comeback

by jummy84 October 12, 2025

At a recent award night held in Ahmedabad, a light-hearted moment on stage stirred more than just laughter when Shah Rukh Khan made a cheeky remark at co-host Karan Johar. During the event, SRK made comments on Karan’s transformed physique, hinting at his significant weight loss, and jokingly mentioned the popular weight loss drug ‘Ozempic’, to which KJo had the perfect comeback.

Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar

The filmmaker took a sly shot in return, weaving in the name ‘Wankhede’, a clear reference to the controversy surrounding Sameer Wankhede, the former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) official who has been in the media spotlight due to a recent lawsuit against SRK’s son Aryan Khan’s show The Ba***ds Of Bollywood.

SRK was seen asking Karan, “Bahaut alag lag rahe ho,” to which Karan responded with, “Zyada exercise karne laga hoon aajkal.” SRK then asked, “Oh, you’re working out, are you planning to go for Ozempic?” instantly correcting himself, “Ahh Olympics”, leaving Karan speechless.

Karan, known for his witty comebacks, said, “Haan, Wankhede mein hai Olympics. Aaoge?” In interviews following his weight loss, KJo has consistently pushed back against rumours that he used Ozempic or similar medications, attributing his transformation to health, medical adjustments, and lifestyle discipline. He has said, “That’s a lot of work, and it’s not medication like the rumor suggests” and emphasized his commitment to being “healthy, eating well, and exercising.”

The 70th Filmfare award moment showcased the two’s witty way of reacting to the news around them.

Noted Experimental Filmmaker Was 92

by jummy84 October 6, 2025
written by jummy84

Ken Jacobs, the pioneering experimental filmmaker noted for incorporating manipulated found footage into a series of films over more than seven decades, died Sunday in Manhattan. He was 92.

His son, filmmaker Azazel Jacobs, noted that Ken’s wife Flo Jacobs had died on June 4: “While the official cause of death was from kidney failure, life without his collaborator and partner since 1960 was unimaginable for so many, especially him.

“He worked on his art every day, completing some final ‘eternalisms’ on the day he went to the hospital,” Azazel Jacobs continued.

Film at Lincoln Center called him “the titan of American experimental cinema.”

Born in Brooklyn, Ken Jacobs got his start in New York’s downtown art scene during the 1960s during the era of Andy Warhol and Allen Ginsberg. After studying painting with Hans Hoffman, he moved into filmmaking. He collaborated with his friend Jack Smith on the notable underground films “Blonde Cobra” and “Little Stabs at Happiness.”

Jacobs and his late wife Flo founded Millennium Film Workshop in 1966. Ken Jacobs taught in the cinema department of Binghamton University in New York for over three decades.

In 1956, he made his first film “Orchard Street” about the Lower East Side, and many of his later films also “used Manhattan streets, rooftops and dumps as the backdrop for sardonic minidramas of social despair,” his former student, film critic J. Hoberman, wrote in 2013.

His 1969 film “Tom, Tom the Piper’s Son” uses a short film from 1905 as source material to manipulate speed, light and motion. It was admitted to the National Film Registry in 2007. Jacobs explained the film saying, “There’s already so much film. Let’s draw some of it out for a deeper look, toy with it, take it into a new light with inventive and expressive projection. Freud would suggest doing so as a way to look into our minds.”

His later films include 1986’s “Perfect Film” and 1990’s “Opening the Nineteenth Century: 1896.” In 2004, he released “Star Spangled to Death,” a nearly seven-hour compendium of found footage on 20th century American history that he began compiling in 1957.

Jacobs’ films, videos and performances have been exhibited at venues including the Berlin Film Festival, the London Film Festival, the New York Film Festival and the Museum of Modern Art.

His honors include the AFI’s Maya Deren Award, a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Rockefeller Foundation and the New York State Council on the Arts.

In addition to his son, he is survived by a daughter, artist Nisi Ariana.

Kannada Filmmaker SS David Passes Away at 55

by jummy84 September 1, 2025
written by jummy84

The Kannada film industry is mourning the sudden loss of filmmaker SS David, whose work left a lasting mark on audiences with films like Jai Hind 1998 and Supari 2001. He passed away on Sunday evening at SS Hospital in RR Nagar, Bengaluru, after suffering a heart attack. Reports say he collapsed while on his way to a pharmacy, and despite being rushed to the hospital, doctors could not save him. His sudden passing at 55 has left fans, colleagues, and friends shocked and heartbroken.

David was more than a filmmaker. He had a gift for telling stories that stayed with people long after they left the theatre. Beyond directing, he wrote scripts for numerous Kannada films, including Police Story 1996, Agni IPS 1997, Dhairya 1997, Simhada Mari 1997, Hai Bangalore 1997, Independence Day 2000, Mandya 2006, Thirupathi 2006, and Police Story 2 2007. His stories were full of heart, his narratives kept audiences engaged, and his vision inspired everyone who worked with him. Colleagues remember him as humble, hardworking, and deeply passionate, someone who quietly encouraged others to give their best.

Even in his absence, David’s family could not be by his side. His sister, who lives in Kapu, Udupi, has requested that the final rites be carried out locally, as she is unable to travel. For now, his body has been moved to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru, where it will remain until arrangements are made. The police have said the body will not be released until family members provide guidance, leaving fans and friends anxiously waiting for closure.

SS David’s passing is not just the loss of a filmmaker but the loss of a kind, gentle soul who loved his craft and the people around him. His films and stories touched hearts, inspired peers, and entertained countless audiences. Those who knew him will remember his warmth, his humility, and the quiet dedication he brought to everything he did. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy will live on through his work and the memories he leaves behind, continuing to inspire and move the hearts of those who admired him.
