Sean Patrick Thomas on Polarity’s Fate, Chance Perdomo

by jummy84 October 23, 2025
written by jummy84

[This story contains major spoilers from the Gen V season two finale, “The Guardians of Godolkin.”]

In the finale of Gen V, Polarity literally blows the doors off Goldokin’s master plan.

It’s a significant way to close out the season for the character played by Sean Patrick Thomas, who began season two’s eight episodes shrouded in anger and grief over the death of his son Andre (Chance Perdomo). That on top of his struggle with the increasing loss of control over his powers, which was first introduced at the end of season one.

With some nudging and accountability by Emma (Lizze Broadway), Polarity not only becomes a key component of the small resistance Andre’s friends mount at Cipher’s (Hamish Linklater) God U, but he also helps uphold the values and heroism Andre sought to embody in that final battle against Ethan Slater’s egotistical and evil Godolkin.

Though the term “Guardians of Godolkin” can have a pejorative undertone with its link to performative acts, manipulation and school surveillance, Polarity — particularly in season two’s finale — becomes a sort of real guardian for Marie (Jaz Sinclair), Emma, Jordan (London Thor, Derek Luh), Cate (Maddie Phillips), Sam (Asa Germann) and Annabeth (Keeya King). After the gang successfully takes down Godolkin by embracing supe differences and leaning on their collective power, Polarity ultimately makes the choice to stay behind, charging himself with taking care of the rest of the school’s young supes.

In light of how the season began with a sacrifice, that moment — like a few others in season two — feels like a nod to Andre’s love for his friends and how they each carry his spirit through battles, both emotional and physical. It’s a meaningful journey and something Polarity acknowledges by the end of the finale.

Taking on aspects of Andre’s — and Chance’s — presence in the gang’s storyline this season wasn’t something Thomas had an awareness of, particularly in scenes that were maybe rewritten for him. He also “didn’t really feel like I was stepping into his literal position. That’s impossible. Chance is so unique and an incredible performer.”

Instead, he tells The Hollywood Reporter, “The only thing I thought was, ‘I have to do everything I can to make sure we do justice to this young man and make sure he’s honored and respected and elevated in the way he should be.” In the conversation below, Thomas details how he accomplished that across all eight episodes, as well as Polarity’s reckoning, redemption and revolution alongside Andre’s friends.

***

Polarity discusses the racialized realities of Andre’s death in Elmira early on in the season. But if Polarity knows Andre is fighting an uphill battle — whether in the school’s halls or the walls of that prison — what about his own experience as a Black man made him choose pushing Andre through at any cost over shielding his son from Vought?

I had a whole set of thoughts about that in season one. That Polarity feels like, in a just world, he would have been in The Seven. But when he was younger, he got relegated to being a rap star or a movie star, and he didn’t get to be elevated into what he felt was his rightful place in the Vought [ecosystem]. So Polarity was using Andre to compensate for the fact that, in his mind, his race kept him from being properly respected when he was younger, and this is his chance to make up for that with his own son.

I think he looks at the Black people in The Seven now — somebody like A-Train, for example — and thinks, “That guy is a lightweight. They didn’t want a real, multi-dimensional Black guy in The Seven, and that’s why I got rejected.” He feels that if there’s going to be a Black guy in The Seven, it needs to be somebody who’s a true, formidable force, and that’s going to be my son. That was my thought about Polarity’s bitterness from his own past and his relationship with his son in season one.

Cipher at one point recounts Andre’s seizures in Elmira, but later, Doug reveals how Andre persisted inside that prison. It’s a moment that honors Andre’s spirit and avoids reducing him to his torture and death. How important was that to Polarity to know his son found his own ways to survive and resist? And is there a positive memory you have of Chance that you feel like exemplifies his spirit on set?

That was just a wonderful thing to do because the story that Doug tells in the car, that’s the type of person Chance was. He was the type of guy whose wheels were always turning, and if he was getting taken advantage of or something was going on that he didn’t think was right, you can best believe he was going to find a way to come out on top. I’m glad the writers put that in there for Doug at the end.

The Chance that I knew was somebody who was so blindingly intelligent. He could speak on any subject. He could talk about politics, money, music. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of so many different things. We talked about how he became an actor, and he said he was planning to become a lawyer at first, and then ended up finding acting. Sometimes I’d be on set and would listen to rock hymns from my era. I would sing a couple of bars from one of those songs, and he would pick up where I left off. He knew all of it, and he knew it better than me. That’s a lot of how we connected. He really was just remarkable. I’ve never met anyone like him before, and I won’t again.

Sage tells Polarity that no man is more powerful than a man with nothing to lose. Polarity has lost a lot, but when you look at who is around him in the finale, it doesn’t feel like he has nothing to lose. How might Polarity’s actions in the finale reflect someone who still very much has something to live for, even beyond his son? What has this new family he’s forged given him?

These kids have given him an opportunity to get it right. They’ve given him an opportunity to do better, to make amends and redeem himself. He’s turned an eye to a lot of abuse, a lot of criminal activity, to horrible things out of his own greed, ambition and hopes for his son. These kids have given him a new lease on life. He can never totally fix the harm he’s done, but they allow him to do a little bit to make up for the fact that there’s a long period of time in his life where he did not do anything to help the world. He only did things to help himself, and he paid the ultimate price by losing his son. He realizes that, and that hits him very hard. He probably feels like he’s going to dedicate the rest of his life to making up for that, and protecting these children as best he can.

After Marie restores his powers, Polarity becomes a major key in how the gang is able to stop Godolkin. But when it first happens in episode seven, it seems like a surprise to him and Cipher. The season has focused a lot on the mechanics of how supe powers work, so is that ability to keep Godolkin out of his head an expansion of not just what audiences but Polarity thought he could do? And how exactly is Polarity able to keep Cipher out?

From what I understand, Polarity’s powers of magnetism are so immense that he can create some type of force field around his own brain to keep anything from getting into it. I think he’s probably figured out that he can find a way to keep Cipher from controlling other people’s brains as well, but he can only do that one brain at a time so that becomes the challenge. Up until now, [Polarity has] always [thought his powers were] just a carnival trick. He’s never used his powers in any real way to help anybody, other than to get attention and be a star. It dawns on him: “I never knew I was capable of this before.” In that sense, he’s very much like some of the kids in the show. They’re doing things they never knew they were capable of, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg for Polarity’s powers. He’s realized. “I can really change things. I can use my power to protect people.”

Emma describes Polarity staying behind as a suicide mission, which leaves the moment feeling like a real full-circle sacrifice. How does that choice to stay behind not just embody Andre, but also the real man who raised Andre?

Polarity is fully willing to sacrifice himself for these kids. He knows if there’s any way that the world is going to change, they’re the ones that are going to do it, and he has to do everything he can to make sure they get that opportunity at the end of season two. I’ve never discussed it with the writers, but I do feel like Polarity is like, “Vought is going to come to this campus, and they’re going to raise hell, and I need to find a way to protect the kids that are here. So anything and everything that I have to do, I will do, and I don’t care what it costs me.” He’s staying behind because there’s no other adult in this entire world who cares about the kids. Polarity says, “It has to be me.’

Polarity and Emma built a bond this season that helps save them both and turns them into the heroes they want to be. Part of that journey is some tough moments, but there’s also so much humor. Can you talk about working with Lizze to create that earnest vibe between you too, which may have played a part with getting Polarity to where he lands at the end of season two?

Lizze’s a wild card, and that’s the best possible situation to be in as an actor. You’re dealing with all these curve balls coming from different directions, and she gives you so much to play off of. None of our dynamic or chemistry was talked about or planned. It’s natural energies, how they bounced off each other. We both cared a lot about doing good work, about really listening to each other and staying in the moment. We both cared a lot about Chance. So everything you see came out of those things. At the beginning of season two, Polarity really had, in my mind, decided, “It’s over. I don’t have any real reason to even exist on this Earth.” She yanks him out of that and gives him a tiniest kernel of a reason to keep going and try to get some type of justice, some type of answer for what happened to his son.

I was not anticipating Polarity defending Cate, but there are some parallels in terms of their relationships with Vought and Andre. Do you think he forgave Cate — and possibly himself — in that moment?

I don’t think Polarity will ever, ever forgive himself for the way he lived his life and for the way his son died, and I don’t know that he forgives Cate. But he understands how somebody could get sucked into something that would make them do something so wrong; that can make them less than who they really are or should be. He has empathy for her in that sense, but I don’t know that he forgives her because the loss is too great, and the consequences have been too monumental. He understands and respects that he’s in no position to judge her.

In episode seven, Sage says, “You’re still going to die, Polarity, just not today.” What kind of fate might audiences expect for him post-finale? He clearly wants to live, but is that an option in the wake of what awaits him with Vought?

I absolutely think he can survive it. He has to. In the world of The Boys, and what’s going on with Homelander [Antony Starr], everything that Homelander is doing is unsustainable. At some point, it’s going to blow up. Something’s going to happen. He’s going to be stopped in some way. When that happens, there’s going to be a void. Who’s going to fill that vacuum? That is where I think Polarity comes in. Whether it’s in Vought or at the university, Polarity is a big part of whatever happens post-Homelander because Vought is still corrupt, even if Homelander is rendered ineffective in some way. Vought is still very, very corrupt, and it’s still a lot to protect these kids from those corporate interests.

Domingo Returns to SNL with Sketch Spoofing Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia”

With Sabrina Carpenter pulling double duty as host and musical guest on this week’s episode, SNL wasted no time bringing back Domingo, Kelsey, and crew. One of the show’s most popular recurring sketches returned for its fourth installment during the cold open, as the Kelsquad crashed Matt’s 30th birthday party to share stories from a recent trip his wife took to Nashville in search of “the most magical birthday present.”

As fate would have it — and as the Kelsquad recounted in song, set to spoofs of Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia” and Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra” — Marcello Hernandez’s Domingo just so happened to be in Nashville at the very same time.

Taylor Swift’s “The Fate Of Ophelia” Is Shattering Streaming Records And Owning Pop Radio | Glamsham.com

Taylor Swift’s new song The Fate of Ophelia isn’t just another chart entry, it’s a full-blown phenomenon. Within days of release, the track became the fastest song ever to cross 100 million streams on Spotify, setting a record that even Swift herself hadn’t touched before. The pace was unreal. Fans kept refreshing the counters, posting updates in real time, and by the end of the week, Ophelia had become Spotify’s new benchmark for what a hit looks like in 2025.

What’s even wilder is how the song has taken over pop radio. In the U.S., The Fate of Ophelia earned the most pop radio adds in a single week since Easy on Me by Adele back in 2021. For a song to dominate both streaming and traditional radio like that is rare now, but if there’s one artist who still pulls it off effortlessly, it’s Taylor. Program directors reportedly jumped on the track right away, a mix of that instant earworm production and Swift’s knack for lyrics that hit straight to the gut.

Musically, The Fate of Ophelia feels like the sweet spot between her cinematic songwriting and her pop roots. It’s grand, emotional, and kind of haunting. The production swells slowly, almost like you’re walking into something you shouldn’t, and then it crashes right when you expect it to stay quiet. It’s the kind of song that feels like it’s hiding something, which, let’s be real, is what Taylor does best.

On social media, fans are losing it. Reddit threads and TikTok edits have already turned Ophelia into an obsession. People are analyzing every lyric, connecting it back to her earlier eras, and talking about how it feels like the perfect blend of Folklore’s emotion and 1989’s confidence.

It’s easy to say Taylor breaks records every time she breathes, but this one hits differently. The Fate of Ophelia isn’t loud about its power; it just moves like a storm that no one saw coming. And once again, everyone’s caught in the rain.

Taylor Swift ‘The Fate of Ophelia’ x ‘Napoleon Dynamite’ Dance: Watch

Twenty years before Taylor Swift‘s “The Fate of Ophelia” was recorded, a character named Napoleon Dynamite (Jon Heder) was leaning into his uniqueness with a magnificently awkward dance routine, as seen in a memorable scene from the 2004 coming-of-age comedy Napoleon Dynamite. His sweet moves were soundtracked by Jamiroquai’s “Canned Heat,” but anyone who hasn’t seen the movie — and who happens to stumble upon the fan-made “Ophelia” x Napoleon Dynamite mashup making the rounds — just might think the choreo was meant to be paired with Swift’s 2025 single instead. Because it’s actually perfect.

Swift fan @betterspiritsprintco on Instagram posted the funny edit on Friday (Oct. 3), the release day of the pop star’s twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, which is already setting records; as of press time on Sunday, the Instagram post has been liked by more than 63,000 Instagram accounts.

The video’s caption: “how it feels to listen to the fate of ophelia.” The comments section unanimously agreed.

Featuring the aforementioned Napoleon Dynamite-dance moment, the edited clip shows the quirky protagonist getting his groove on to an audio clip of “The Fate of Ophelia,” Showgirl’s opening track and first single (and the first song from the set to get an official music video, which dropped online on Sunday after premiering at movie theaters on Friday during the box office-topping The Release Party of a Showgirl).

Somehow, the timing of it all is just right. Napoleon hits his marks. Subtle reactions from the audience are spot-on.

Just wait until you get to the moves synced to Swift’s lyric “I swore my loyalty to me, myself, and I” — it only gets better from there.

Watch Taylor Swift personify a showgirl across several eras in ‘The Fate Of Ophelia’ music video

Taylor Swift has released a music video for ‘The Fate Of Ophelia’, making it the first official single from her new record ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ – check it out below.

Swift released her 12th studio album ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ on Friday (October 3), the follow-up to last year’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’. Now, she’s revealed the album’s first official single as ‘The Fate Of Ophelia’ through its newly debuted music video.

The video first premiered over the weekend at The Official Release Party Of A Showgirl screenings that took place in cinemas – the 90-minute “film” featured the music video, its behind-the-scenes process and lyric videos of the album’s tracks as well as Swift’s commentary on every song from the record.

The music video for ‘The Fate Of Ophelia’ is now publicly available and confirms that it was written and directed by Swift herself. The clip sees the musician personify a showgirl through several eras in history as she’s backed by her ‘Eras’ tour band and dancers.

Across various intricate set pieces, Swifts cosplays a showgirl in numerous eras, depicting herself as a pirate, a burlesque singer and other classic imagery. The music video ends with Swift starring as herself in the bathtub of a hotel room – which also happens to be the official cover art for ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’.

As soon as ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ dropped, fans started sharing their thoughts on the record, with some calling it “her best album” and the return of “pop perfection”, and others declaring it “the worst Taylor Swift album yet” and “boring and basic”. You can also explore the range of Easter eggs and references on the album here.

She has also indicated that she has no intention of heading out on tour again anytime soon, after the gargantuan effort that went into her record-breaking ‘Eras’ tour.

One of the biggest talking points from the record so far has been the track ‘Actually Romantic’, which is widely rumoured to be a diss track directed at Charli XCX. “I heard you call me ‘Boring Barbie’ when the coke’s got you brave,” Swift sings on the song. “High-fived my ex and then said you’re glad he ghosted me / Wrote me a song saying it makes you sick to see my face / Some people might be offended / But it’s actually sweet.”

Many considered this a rebuttal to Charli’s ‘Sympathy Is A Knife’ from ‘Brat’, on which she sang: “Don’t know if I’m spiralling / One voice tells me that they laugh / George says I’m just paranoid / Don’t wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend’s show / Fingers crossed behind my back / I hope they break up real quick.”

Swift has since said ‘Actually Romantic’ is “a song about realising that someone else has kind of had a one-sided, adversarial relationship with you that you didn’t know about. And all of a sudden they start doing too much and they start letting you know that actually, you’ve been living in their head rent-free and you had no idea.”

Taylor Swift Releases ‘The Fate of Ophelia’ Video: Watch

by jummy84 October 6, 2025

The musician portrays the song’s titular Shakespeare character alongside other showgirls, including herself in new clip

Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl era is in full swing and to cap off the album’s stellar debut weekend, she’s released the music video for its first official single, “The Fate of Ophelia.” The video first premiered this weekend in The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, Swift’s film which screened in theaters from Oct. 3 to Oct. 5.

The Swift-directed and written visual for the single opens on Swift as the tragic Shakespeare heroine Ophelia from Hamlet in a painting on the wall of a hotel, before it’s revealed that it’s a set. She then embodies a variety of showgirls from various eras and in elaborate settings, where she’s backed by dancers and the band from her Eras Tour. It culminates at a hotel where Swift stars as herself.

Unlike Hamlet’s noblewoman Ophelia, whose plight in a patriarchal society finds her powerless, spiraling into madness and leads to her tragic end by drowning, Swift’s Ophelia triumphs. Per the lyrics, the heroine “pledges allegiance” to a presumed love that “dug me out of my grave and/Saved my heart from the fate of Ophelia,” and declares “now you’re mine.” Like with the Romeo and Juliet of Swift’s “Love Story,” Ophelia, whose star-crossed love of Hamlet leads to her demise in Shakespeare’s version, instead gets a fairy-tale-style happily ever after, too.

Trending Stories

Following the digital premiere of “The Fate of Ophelia” video, Swift is sharing lyric videos for all of the songs from The Life of a Showgirl, as she did in The Official Release Party of a Showgirl.

Swift has had an impressive opening weekend sales-wise with both her limited-release film and album. The Official Release Party of a Showgirl hit Number One in the box office, with early projections expecting it to rake in between $28 million and $32 million from 3,702 theaters during its limited Oct. 3 through Oct. 5 domestic theatrical run (worldwide box office estimates for its weekend premiere put it at $46 million). Meanwhile, The Life of a Showgirl sold 2.7 million copies in traditional album sales — combined physical and digital — from all versions of the album on its first day of release on Oct. 3 alone. That number represents Swift’s biggest album sales week ever, and Swift’s album looks to potentially eclipse the sales record held by Adele’s 25, which sold 3.378 million copies in its debut week in 2015.

Taylor Swift‘s “The Fate of Ophelia” music video is now streaming on YouTube, following an exclusive early release to movie theaters in the U.S. on Friday (Oct. 3).

Written and directed by Swift herself, the music video for “The Fate of Ophelia” made it online Sunday night (Oct. 5). The reference-filled visual has the pop star playing several parts, or showing several sides — among them the once ill-fated Ophelia of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, the lead in a Golden Age Hollywood movie musical, a frontwoman to a 1960s girl group, and the modern Swift showgirl that audiences know and love.

Of course, Swift’s single imagines an Ophelia who makes her way out of a destined tragic ending.

In the accompanying music video (seen below), Swift crawls out of an on-set version of a Sir John Everett Millais painting circa the 1850s that famously depicts Ophelia’s drowning. She performs different iterations of a “Fate of Ophelia” show — in homage to the likenesses of Marilyn Monroe in one scene and Ronnie Spector/The Ronettes in another, and center soundstage in an Anything Goes-inspired ensemble — and ends up soaking in her bathtub by the clip’s end. She’s presumably exhausted after playing all the parts, but still quite alive.

“The Fate of Ophelia” music video wraps with the image that became the official album cover for Swift’s newly released The Life of a Showgirl.

Earlier on Sunday, Swift’s team posted a short interview clip that has the singer-songwriter explaining how the album art came to be.

“There was this moment in the photo shoot [with photographers Mert Alaş and Marcus Piggott] right at the end of the day, the last setup, I’m in this bathtub in this bedazzled dress,” she said. “They take my picture. I see it on the monitor. I see it pop up. Even though it was at the weirdest angle, and I’m in the bathtub, I’m just like, ‘That’s the cover.’ And it was.”

She added, “I went and looked at the picture like, ‘Yeah. That’s it.’ I think it represents to me that you’ve done all this work, you’ve done a three-and-a-half hour show, you’ve done the lead-up to it, you’ve done the warm-ups, you’ve gotten through it. Anything that could’ve gone wrong, you sidestepped. You finally get back, what do you do? You take a bath.”

“That’s what I do in those situations,” she said. “It’s like that moment of relaxation. That moment the cameras are down, the lights are off. What do you have to say? What’s your story? Who are you then? That’s really the story of this album.”

Opening-day album sales for The Life of a Showgirl, as reported by data tracking firm Luminate, reached 2.7 million on its first day of release (Oct. 3). That tally counts traditional album sales (physical and digital purchases) across all versions of the album. It marks Swift’s biggest week ever, and the second-largest sales week for any album since Luminate began electronically tracking data in 1991; Adele currently holds the largest sales week with 25. Further news of Showgirl‘s first-week building sales and streaming activity will be available in the coming days.

“The Fate of Ophelia” music video was first shown in theaters as part of The Release Party of a Showgirl, Swift’s theatrical event that opened at No. 1 at the box office this weekend. The screening featured the music video premiere and behind-the-scenes footage from making it, plus Swift’s commentary on all 12 songs from The Life of a Showgirl and a first viewing of each track’s lyric video. It also revealed an unexpected co-star appearing in “The Fate of Ophelia” video: a loaf of Swift’s homemade sourdough bread.

Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia” Music Video Delivers Glam

Taylor Swift’s new music video for “The Fate of Ophelia” made its official premiere in movie theaters as part of the weirdly reverential The Official Release Party of a Showgirl. But now, you can see her full vision for the leadoff track from The Life of a Showgirl on YouTube, accompanied by 11 lyric videos for the album’s remaining songs.

The music video, written and directed by Swift (it says so in big letters at the end) showcases Swift embodying “showgirl” personas from across various points in history, including a pirate wench, a star of Busby Berkeley-esque musicals, and more tragic heroines.

During The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, Swift revealed that the video featured a happy reunion of the dancers who appeared on stage during The Eras Tour, as well as choreography by the renowned Mandy Moore and cinematography by Rodrigo Prieto, a four-time Oscar nominee for films including Brokeback Mountain and Killers of the Flower Moon. Also, it’s very important to know that the loaf of bread featured in one shot of this video was baked by Taylor herself.

Swift’s 12th album sold 2.7 million copies in just the first 24 hours of its release. Our own Wren Graves, in his review, compared it to “a breathless vent to a friend, with alternating spurts of warmth, nostalgia, anxious searching, and teeth-baring sneers.”

Taylor Swift ‘Showgirl’ Film, ‘Fate of Ophelia’ Theater Screening

by jummy84 October 4, 2025
written by jummy84

At the AMC Orpheum 7 in New York’s Upper East Side, Taylor Swift fans showed up in glittering sequin outfits and bright Eras Tour merch for an anticipated 3 p.m. screening of The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, a 90-minute feature Swift cooked up to go along with the album. Showing in theaters all weekend, the film special includes the premiere of the long-awaited “The Fate of Ophelia” video and behind-the-scenes footage, plus all the stories behind the songs on her 12th album.

Instead of the usual movie ads, various promo photos from Showgirl popped up as some of her older songs played over them. As the feature began, Swift appeared on screen, telling fans that she was excited to bring people together to listen to the album.

“The Fate of Ophelia” video played first. It opens in a grand-looking hotel as the camera pans to a painting on the wall where Swift portrays Ophelia (in a white dress, similar to the version from German painter Friedrich Heyser’s interpretation). Instead of drowning like Shakespeare’s tragic character does, Swift gets up and reveals that it’s a set. From there, she embodies a wide array of showgirls, going from Sixties girl groups to a Busby Berkeley-esque musical number. Joining Swift throughout the video are the dancers, backup singers, and the band from her epic Eras Tour. The video, which was written and directed by Swift, ends in a hotel with Swift as herself. She’s rolled into a room on a dining cart (but not before catching a football) where she parties until the paparazzi show up outside the window. She escapes to the bathroom, where she re-creates the album cover in the tub.

Following the video, Swift began sharing footage from the rehearsals and set of the video, letting us into her meticulous planning process. Early planning Zooms show her dissecting classic art movements and showgirl history she wanted to weave into the story. “Art history for pop fans,” she jokes. The biggest Easter egg for Swift? She personally baked a loaf of sourdough that makes it into one of the shots.

Editor’s picks

Swift also shared the meanings behind each track on Showgirl before showing the lyric videos. The lyric videos were taken on the set of the music video and promo shoots for the album. Before “Elizabeth Taylor,” for example, she pointed out how much she wanted to highlight the parallels of their lives while dropping tidbits of the iconic actress’ own lore (She noted Liz Taylor’s love for Portofino and her violet eyes.) “Opalite,” meanwhile, was inspired by Swift and her mom’s shared love for opals; opalite is the man-made version, much like the type of self-made happiness she sings about on the song.

As she sat in a director’s chair discussing each song, she remained coy about fiancé Travis Kelce and never said his name directly. Still, she nodded to the innuendos on the horny and explicit “Wood,” saying it was about “superstitions” with a sly smile. “Honey,” she revealed later, was one of the first songs written for the album, and a guiding light for Swift, Max Martin and Shellback. It was inspired by how “awesome” it feels to be called “honey” or “sweetheart” by someone who means it.

Before “Father Figure,” Swift focused on her respect for George Michael, whose hit of the same name is interpolated in one line of the chorus. She points out how she had wanted to do something with the concept of a “father figure” and used it to talk about power between a mentor and mentee. She says she could connect with both sides of the story in the song.

The audience snickered when “Actually Romantic” popped up, but Swift’s explanation was as neutral as could be. Without saying who it’s about, Swift noted that it referenced someone letting her live “rent-free” in their head for years before Swift even knew it was happening. “In my industry, attention is affection,” she says to her anonymous foe, “and you give me so much of it, so thank you.”

When it was time for “The Life of a Showgirl,” Swift celebrated her friend Sabrina Carpenter, who appears on the track. The song is from the perspective of a young girl going to see a star named Kitty. When the fan and Kitty meet, Kitty tells her to avoid pursuing this career. Swift says many of her heroes told her the same thing when she was younger. In Carpenter, Swift saw someone who was “really well-equipped for this career” and could handle all the drama and criticism thrown at her.

The album’s opener, “The Fate of Ophelia,” gets the final explainer before the video played for a second time. It most reflects her writing process; she revealed she has an exceptionally long file full of lyric ideas, concepts, words and more that she refers to often. She said that if you scrolled through it, it would take “20 minutes” to get through. She’d written the title a while back and then re-discovered it as Shellback played the song’s riff. Quickly, she realized how well it matched.

Once the video ended, fans clapped and left the theater. Luckily, for those who are eagerly awaiting the visuals for “The Fate of Ophelia,” the video will begin streaming everywhere on Sunday. Fans can hit their local movie theater to see it this weekend and get the full theatrical experience Swift intended.

Jimmy Kimmel is suspended from future broadcasts of his late-night comedy show “indefinitely, according to a statement from ABC. Just two months after Stephen Colbert‘s CBS show was axed, Kimmel’s was pulled off the air after the comedian made a comment related to Charlie Kirk‘s death and his suspected shooter, Tyler Robinson. Naturally, viewers wondered if the on-air suspension indicates a termination. So, is Jimmy Kimmel Live! canceled?

“Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be pre-empted indefinitely,” an ABC spokesperson said in a statement. According to CNN, the rep did not share further details. Kimmel has yet to publicly comment on ABC’s decision to yank his show off the air.

Below, get updates on the status of Kimmel’s comedy show.

Was Jimmy Kimmel Fired?

No, Kimmel was not fired by ABC, though he has been suspended until further notice.

Why Was Jimmy Kimmel Suspended?

ABC declined to elaborate on Kimmel’s suspension, but ABC affiliate Nexstar said it would not broadcast Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the “foreseeable future,” adding that it “strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.”

Brendan Carr, the head of the Federal Communications Commission, criticized Kimmel’s comments related to Kirk’s shooting. Carr appeared on Benny Johnson’s show and said, “This is a very, very serious issue right now for Disney. We can do this the easy way or the hard way. Disney needs to see some change here, but the individual licensed stations that are taking their content, it’s time for them to step up and say this, you know, garbage to the extent that that’s what comes down the pipe in the future isn’t something that we think serves the needs of our local communities. … There’s calls for Kimmel to be fired. I think you could certainly see a path forward for suspension over this.”

What Did Jimmy Kimmel Say About Charlie Kirk?

Kimmel condemned political violence and sent his condolences to Kirk’s family after the late Turning Point USA founder’s death was confirmed on September 10, 2025.

“Instead of the angry finger-pointing, can we just for one day agree that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another human?” Kimmel wrote via Instagram. “On behalf of my family, we send love to the Kirks and to all the children, parents and innocents who fall victim to senseless gun violence.”

What Did Jimmy Kimmel Say About Tyler Robinson?

Kimmel referred to the “MAGA gang” while discussing Robinson, Kirk’s suspected shooter.

“The MAGA Gang (is) desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said during an episode of his show. “In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.”

The comedian also showed Donald Trump‘s response to a reporter when asked how he was mourning Kirk.

“I think very good, and by the way, right there — do you see all the trucks?” the president asked, before adding, “They just started construction for the new ballroom for the White House, which is something they’ve been trying to get as, you know, for about 150 years. And it’s gonna be a beauty.”

Will Jimmy Kimmel Live! Be Canceled?

At the time of publication, there is no set air date for Kimmel’s return. However, ABC has not canceled his show altogether.

Reports suggest that Kimmel might walk away from ABC, though. Daily Mail reported that he’s “actively looking for ways to get out of his contract.”
