Avalon Emerson Shares Video for New & the Charm Song, Announces European Tour Dates: Watch

by jummy84 November 14, 2025
written by jummy84

Avalon Emerson has shared a new song. “Eden” is the DJ and producer’s first release under her Avalon Emerson & the Charm moniker since her 2023 dream-pop album of the same name. It’s out on Dead Oceans and arrives with a music video directed by Ben Turok. Watch it below.

“‘Eden’ is the voyage along the endless river carved between mountains of joy and loss, of experience and exhaustion. We glide over a teeming riverbed of relationships and love, revealing the path itself is the point,” Emerson said in a press release. “‘Eden’ came from the first studio session I had with Bullion after the last ‘& the Charm’ live tour in late 2023. That day in London made me realize that making this kind of music is not just a detour from DJing and dance music, but the entrance to a deep cave, full of passages to wander.”

After signing to Dead Oceans earlier this year, Emerson launched the singles series Perpetual Emotion Machine. As part of the series, she formally released “E After Next,” a rework of Moby’s “Next Is the E” that had become a staple of her DJ sets. Emerson is set to play a brief run of & the Charm shows in Europe and the United Kingdom beginning in late March of next year. Scroll down to see her upcoming tour dates.

12 New Talent Gems at This Year’s Seville European Film Festival

by jummy84 November 7, 2025
written by jummy84

Anyone wanting to argue the riches of European films need go no further than the new talents spotlighted at this year’s Seville European Film Festival which launched last year a Rampa section for first and second features and has added short films to its lineup in 2025. Variety highlights seven features and five short films, championed by critics and announcing most certainly talent to keep on the radar:

“The Anatomy of the Horses,” (“La Anatomía de los Caballos,”Daniel Vidal Toche, Playa Chica Films, Sideral, Spain; Pioneros Producciones, Peru; Los Niños Films, Colombia; Mito Films, Promenades Films, France).

Picked up by Loco Films and backed by the Berlin Festival’s World Cinema Fund, and put through EAVE’s Puentes, MRG Work, Ventana Sur’s Proyecta and Málaga’s Mafiz, a take on Peruvian history not far from the pessimism of “One Hundred Years of Solitude”: Revolutions don’t work, Peru is “trapped in an unbroken cycle,” he tells Variety. Jumping from 18th century to modern-day corporate degradation, originally shot, a film style and substance.

“Dandelion’s Odyssey,” (Momoko Seto, Miyu Productions, Ecce Films, Arte Cinéma, U Media, France, Belgium)

A boundary-pushing animation odyssey using time-lapse, macro-photography, robotics, periscopes and drones to picture four friends, dandelion seeds, floating off into the cosmos from an Earth destroyed by nuclear war. Seto’s fifth work but first feature, “an experimental animated feature unlike anything you’ve seen before,” proclaims Cartoon Brew. Sold by Indie Sales, a Cannes Fipresci Award and Annecy Animation Festival winner.

“The Last One for the Road,” (“Le Citta di Pianura,” Francesco Sossai, A Vivo Film, Rai Cinema, Maze Pictures, Italy)

50-somethings Carlobianchi and Doriano chain-booze their way from life, dispensing advice, bar-hopping, exchanging stories and escaping the police. A Cannes Un Certain Regard player with a more melancholic undercurrent rated by Variety as a  “pleasant Italian gem on drinking buddies, aging and wistful flavors of life.”

“My Father’s Shadow,” (Element Pictures, Fatherland Productions, BBC Film, BFI, Crybaby, U.K.)

“Nigeria’s first ever Cannes selection marks a miraculous gem of auto-fiction,” Variety proclaimed of “My Father’s Shadow.” “In his feature film debut, Akinola Davies Jr. announces himself as a major cinematic voice,” it added. “One day in the life of two young boys traveling with their father from a small village in rural Nigeria to the bustling capital city Lagos.” But an “intimate and well-observed drama” ends up in a way so devastating it completely upends the movie, elevating it into a deeply humanist narrative.”

“A Year of School,” (Laura Samani, Nefertiti Film, RAI Cinema, Tomsa Films, Arte France Cinéma, Italy).

Winning best actor honors for newcomer Giacomo Covi at this year’s Venice Horizons, Samani’s second feature and a turn-up for the books after her year 800 Frigian community-set “Small Body,” set in 2007 as Fred, Swedish, enrolls in an all-male senior year class of a technical high school in Trieste, soon joining a gang of three close male friends. “About desire,” and “the way the world allows us to express these desires,” which differs for females,” Samani tells Variety.

“Short Summer,” (Nastia Korkia, Tamtam Film, Totem Atelier, Art & Popcorn, Germany, France, Serbia)

This year’s Venice Lion of the Future and Chicago New Directors winner, sold by Totem Films and the fiction feature debut of Korkia, now based in France and Germany. A drama set during the second Chechen war, it turns on eight year-old Katya (Maiia Pleshkevich), on summer holidays with her grandparents at their country house. Filmed with fixed-camera shots, an eye to documentary-like details as war insinuates itself into daily life.

“We Believe You,” (Charlotte Devillers, Arnaud Dufeys, Mackintosh Films, Belgium)

Sold widely by The Party Sales to Germany, France and Spain and most Eastern Europe, and described by Variety as a “gripping family custody drama,” a Berlin’s Perspectives player, garnering a Special Mention. Myriem Akheddiou delivers an extraordinary performance, often caught in close-up, of a mother under extreme stress, underscoring the best that Belgium offers: Tough and informed social drama. “We meet victims of sexual assault, and some of them reveal incest to us,” says Devillers, a nurse.

Short Films

“Baile de Feria” (Rakia Films, Te Lo Garantizo Producciones, Spain)

Set against the atmosphere of the Seville April Fair, “Baile de Feria” meaning Fair Dance traces the bond between a father experiencing cognitive impairment and the daughter who reconnects with him through shared music, movement and ritual. Directed by Bernabé Bulnes, the short blends domestic scenes with the fairgrounds and its “Calle del Infierno,” locating the bond of family entwined within local tradition.

“Dad’s Not Home” (Szkoła Filmowa im. Krzysztofa Kieślowskiego, Poland)

Winner of the Student Academy Award for best narrative short, “Dad’s Not Home” follows two young brothers who conceal their father’s frontotemporal dementia in order to remain together after their mother’s death. Directed by Jan Saczek and produced at the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School in Katowice, the film depicts an early, imposed adulthood as the boys manage caretaking, household routines and emotional strain of growing up.

“Éiru” (Cartoon Saloon, HerStory, Ireland)

Giovanna Ferrari directs this Iron-Age mythic adventure of a young girl who journeys underground to restore her community’s water source, a lifegiving essential stolen by magic. Featuring voice work from Coco Teehan Roche, the film reflects BAFTA and Emmy winning studio Cartoon Saloon’s interest in cultural folklore and environmental stewardship. Distributed by Gkids in North America.

“A Good Day” (Portugal Films – Portugal)

António wakes to find a lifeless double of himself floating in the family pool, a discovery that unsettles the household as they attempt to carry on while quietly grieving the inexplicable presence. Doubts arise as to who and what António is. Directed by Tiago Rosa-Rosso, the film stages a gently absurd domestic scenario that drifts between comedy and unease, unfoldig like a theatrical chamber piece where logic slips and all is up for questioning.

“Yonne” (Rita Productions, Norte Productions, Switzerland, France)

Set in mid-19th-century Burgundy, “Yonne” follows two sisters who disguise themselves as men to join a timber raft crew. Their destination is Paris and perhaps a hope for an improved life than what they flee. Co-directed by Julietta Korbel and Yan Ciszewski, the short underscores the physical strain and vulnerability of the flotteurs as they navigate a pastoral river route. Selected for Locarno’s Pardi di Domani before appearing in Seville’s Official Shorts, the film traces emancipation, hiding and survival of spirit through labor, movement and shifting bodies.

De Vere chef triumphs in European heats of prestigious IACC Copper Skillet competition

by jummy84 October 31, 2025
written by jummy84

De Vere, a collection of historic mansion house estates and distinctive contemporary hotels, is celebrating after one of its chefs took first place in the European heat of the acclaimed IACC Copper Skillet Challenge in Sweden.

Ben Parris, Executive Head Chef at De Vere Horsley Estate, located in Surrey, was one of four chefs in the senior category, each competing under pressure to impress a panel of esteemed judges. Ben will now head to New York to represent the UK and Europe in the global finals in April 2026.

The IACC Copper Skillet is one of the most respected culinary competitions in the hospitality and conference sector, showcasing the creativity, skill and versatility of chefs working in leading conference venues worldwide.

The challenge required each chef to design and cook two portions of a main course dish in only 30 minutes, using a pantry of staples and a selection of mystery ingredients, with the rule that at least two of the five surprise proteins had to be incorporated. Dishes were assessed on originality, technique, presentation, flavour balance, hygiene standards and minimal food waste.

In the final, Ben chose halibut fillet and local Högbo Bruk cheese. He created a dish of braised fennel with tarragon and the local cheese, pan-fried Halibut fillet, a salad of local vegetables and a classic sauce vierge dressing and fresh herbs.

Ben Parris said: “The European heat was highly competitive, with some incredibly talented chefs taking part and I’m honoured to have made it to the final stage. The competition is a real test of the skills required in conference and events catering, and I’m thrilled to be representing the UK and Europe in the final stages of the competition next year.”

Michael Micallef, General Manager at De Vere Horsley Estate said: “We are all incredibly proud of Ben for his outstanding achievement throughout this competition. His exceptional skill and composure in a highly pressured environment have really set him apart.

Kate Shaw, our Director of Sales, and I, were delighted to support him in person at the superb IACC Europe Knowledge Festival at Högbo Brukshotell & Spa. Our focus now turns to the global round next year, and we will be cheering him on every step of the way.”

The Global Showdown will take place at the Windrose on Hudson in New York, where Ben will compete against champions from the Americas and Asia-Pacific.

De Vere Horsley Estate is an exceptional venue for meetings and events. At Horsley Place, The Hub features seven versatile meeting rooms for 6 to 100 guests, which can be booked individually or exclusively, with a courtyard ideal for outdoor lunches, barbecues, and team building. Adjacent, The Horsley Suite accommodates up to 200 guests with direct courtyard access.

Set within the estate’s stunning grounds, is the historic 19th-century Horsley Towers. With 28 bedrooms, two large event spaces, three meeting rooms, and exclusive-use options, it offers an unforgettable setting for any occasion.

The Cure add huge Cardiff show to 2026 UK and European summer tour

by jummy84 October 10, 2025
written by jummy84

The Cure have just added a huge Cardiff show to their 2026 UK and European summer tour.

The goth rock legends announced their new tour on September 30, where they’re set to kick off on June 26 at Dublin’s Marlay Park.

After travelling to Belsonic in Belfast on June 28, they’ll stop off at Manchester as part of Live From Wythenshawe Park’s summer series on August 21, before heading off to Edinburgh’s Royal Highland Showgrounds on the 23rd. They’ll also play two outdoor shows in Berlin’s Parkbühne Wuhlheide on July 10 and 11.

Now, The Cure have unveiled a huge Cardiff show to take place in the Blackweir Fields on June 24. The Twilight Sad and The Joy Formidable have been hand-picked by Robert Smith to support The Cure on the day.

Pre-sale will commence on October 16, 10am here, with general sale following on October 17, 10am – get your tickets here.

No London dates have been announced so far, but it’s rumoured the band will play a huge show at the Royal Albert Hall.

WALES! NEW DATE IN CARDIFF BLACKWEIR FIELDS!
FANS SIGNED UP TO THE MAILING LIST WILL GET PRE-SALE ACCESS! REGISTER AT https://t.co/eRO5OrC1Oy pic.twitter.com/TKoNgQJZxF

— The Cure (@thecure) October 10, 2025

The Cure’s 2026 UK and Ireland headline shows are:

JUNE
24 – Blackweir Fields, Cardiff

26 – Marlay Park, Dublin
28 – Belsonic, Belfast

JULY
10 – Parkbühne Wuhlheide, Berlin
11 – Parkbühne Wuhlheide, Berlin

AUGUST
21 – Live From Wythenshawe Park, Manchester
23 – Edinburgh Summer Sessions, Royal Highland Showgrounds, Edinburgh

Along with their headline dates, The Cure have been announced for a slate of festivals, including headline slots at Rock En Seine, Primavera Sound, and Isle Of Wight Festival.

They’ve also been announced to play Øya, Nova Rock, Rock Werchter, and Open’er festivals.

It will be their first dates together since their show at London’s Troxy last November, an intimate gig with just 3,000 fans in attendance – including Green Day‘s Billie Joe Armstrong, Radiohead‘s Ed O’Brien, Boy George, Mogwai‘s Stuart Braithwaite, and Pedro Pascal.

Smith previously revealed there was another new album that’s “virtually finished” – with a third new record also on the way.

Excitingly, Smith also shared he wanted to finish one of those albums before they start touring, suggesting that it may be released before they officially hit the road in August.

So far, their most recent record is ‘Songs Of A Lost World‘, which we gave a whopping five stars: “The 10-minute opus of ‘Endsong’ – always intended as the album closer – circles back to that full stop from the start: how we’re all ultimately dust and “left alone with nothing at the end of every song”. Merciless? Yes, but there’s always enough heart in the darkness and opulence in the sound to hold you and place these songs alongside The Cure’s finest.

“The frontman suggested that another two records may be arriving at some point, but ‘Songs Of A Lost World’ feels sufficient enough for the wait we’ve endured, just for being arguably the most personal album of Smith’s career. Mortality may loom, but there’s colour in the black and flowers on the grave.”

Liv Ullmann to Receive Career Award From European Film Academy

by jummy84 October 9, 2025
written by jummy84

Liv Ullmann will be honored during the upcoming European Film Awards with a career award celebrating her body of work as an actress, director and screenwriter.

Ullmann has been an international star since Ingmar Bergman’s 1966 arthouse hit “Persona.” Indeed, she is best-known for her collaborations with Bergman, acting in 10 of his films and directing two of his screenplays. Bergman was also the father of her daughter, author Lin Ullmann.

Ullmann is also known for her work with Swedish director Jan Troell in “The New Land” (1972) and “The Emigrants,” for which she was nominated for an Oscar, and with Italy’s Mauro Bolognini in “Farewell Moscow,” for which she won a David di Donatello award.

Ullmann’s first film as a director was ” Sofie” (1992), about the life of a Jewish woman in Copenhagen from 1886 to 1907, starring Karen-Lise Mynster, Erland Josephson and Ghita Nørby. That drama was followed by an adaptation of Nobel laureate Sigrid Undset’s great historical epic “Kristin Lavransdatter” (1995) set in 14th-century Norway, and “Private Confessions” (1996), written by Bergman and starring Pernilla August and Max von Sydow. Her film “Faithless” (2000), starring Lena Endre and Erland Josephson, premiered in competition at Cannes Film Festival and her most recent directorial effort is “Miss Julie” with Colin Farrell and Jessica Chastain.

“Liv Ullmann has helped to shape our understanding of European film,” the European Film Academy said in a statement.

The 38th edition of the European Film Awards will take place on Jan. 17, 2026, in Athens.

7 Chic European Jeans Outfits to Copy in Winter 2025

by jummy84 October 5, 2025
written by jummy84

t’s officially the middle of autumn here in the UK. But to be honest, it didn’t really hit me until last week, when the temperature really dropped, that we’re well into the cold-weather season. This, of course, meant that I finally took the time to pack away my breezy linen and cotton trousers to make room for all of my jeans. Let’s be honest, jeans are in no way a seasonal item, but I tend to only keep 1 or 2 pairs out throughout the warmer months for those occasional chilly summer days. Now I’ve finally unpacked my collection of different denim washes, cuts, and lengths, ready to style up for the rest of autumn. winter and well into next spring.

My first point of inspiration? My favourite European fashion influencers, of course. I’m a firm believer that no one can style denim like a Euro girl. From the daring silhouettes I see on my commute to work in London to sleeker styles found on the more minimalist Scandi fashion set, I found a number of effortlessly chic outfits that I saved to my Instagram folder to copy.

If you, too, are in need of some fresh denim inspiration, keep scrolling for seven jeans outfits from seven different Euro destinations to copy this season.

Oslo, Norway

Cropped Trench + Straight Jeans + Ballet Flats

@nnennaechem wears a cropped trench, straight jeans and zebra ballet flats

Style Notes: A trench coat is a classic London-girl style, so of course, the Oslo girls had to make it even cooler by opting for cropped iterations that feel a lot less formal than their longer counterparts. Between that and the zebra-print ballet flats, this is an outfit that is equal parts timeless as it is fresh.

The structured blazer and chunky loafers make this perfect for the office as well.

Style Notes: It may be called the ‘Canadian Tuxedo’, but I had no desire to try out this outfit formula for myself until I spotted it on Spanish influencer Kristen (pictured above). The denim jacket in the above bomber silhouette as well as the cuff-hem on the jeans just make it feel a lot cooler than your typical double-denim outfit.

Sports Team cancel European dates as they “couldn’t justify the financial risk”

by jummy84 October 1, 2025

Sports Team have cancelled some of their European dates due to not being able to “justify” the financial risks associated with putting on shows.

The band, who were meant to tour in European cities including Oslo, Berlin, Barcelona and Copenhagen this autumn, said that they will have to postpone some of these shows.

Announcing the news on Instagram, they shared that this is something that goes against “everything” they want to do, and apologised to fans for the impact of this decision.

“Cancelling shows goes against everything we want to do,” the statement said. “We’re a band because we love playing live. We once drove 24 hours through the night from London to get to a show in Munich. There were 12 people there and the next day we drove back to Birmingham for the next show. Nobody slept. Most of us cried. It was hell. I’d do it again tomorrow.

“We’ve done plenty of shows that haven’t made money. Touring as a six piece band is an extremely stupid business model. Normally we’re able to make things work, this time we couldn’t justify the financial risk.”

Sports Team confirmed they will still play Here’s The Thing Festival, Madrid, Paris and Antwerp, but said the “rest will have to come later”. All UK tour dates are scheduled to go ahead as planned.

Read the full statement below.

Sports Team are not the only band to have cancelled due to financial concerns. In July, Irish band The Murder Capital also cancelled the US and Canadian leg of their tour due to “unforeseen financial challenges” and uncertainty.

This, they explained, was due to financial struggles and uncertainties around travel. No replacement dates were scheduled.

“With heavy hearts, we have to cancel our tour this autumn due to unforeseen financial challenges and the ongoing travel uncertainties,” their statement read on social media. “This is a bitter pill to swallow. We hope you know how much we wanted to be out there playing these shows for ye all.”

It comes as the number of artists touring across the UK and abroad has fallen by as much as 74 per cent compared to pre-pandemic figures.  The country’s music scene continues to face the “complete collapse” of touring with huge areas going without live music, one venue closing every two weeks, and the uphill struggle for artists affording to exist, let alone play live.

A proposed £1 levy on gigs at arena level and above – designed to feed back into the grassroots for artists and promoters as well as venues and festivals – continues to gather steam, but debate surrounds its speed and where the pressure should be applied for more action.

This included a showing of the money made from show fees and merch sales, as well as outgoings including travel, haulage, accommodation, crew wages and essentials such as food.

In total, for the one-off gig that the band played at Dublin venue the Button Factory, they earned £6,151.59. However, they spent £7,863.88, resulting in a total loss of £1,712.29.

Back in May, Wolf Alice‘s Joff Oddie joined industry leaders at a government hearing into the state of UK grassroots music, where it was warned that not enough progress was being made in saving venues and new artists.

Last year, DJ Shadow shared his thoughts on the current touring crisis, saying the industry is close to “extinction”.

Additionally, back in 2022, various figures from the UK music industry spoke to NME about how the first summer of post-pandemic touring revealed that the complications of Brexit were “strangling the next generation of UK talent in the cradle”.

NME gave Sports Team’s latest album ‘Boys These Days’ four stars in a review. It commended its fun-spirited approach to tackling toxic masculinity, and by giving a distinct sound to the band.

“On ‘Boys These Days’, Sports Team flip the narrative of an increasingly stark, divided world to embrace the childlike side of human nature, staying true to that foundational principle of the band,” it read.

“Sonically, it’s a step up from the guitar-driven mayhem that characterised their roots, without just slapping some synths on top like many of their indie counterparts. In reality, they’ve never sounded closer to that wacky, eccentric live band down your local on a Friday night – and maybe that’s where their truest form lies.”
