Home Town Takeover star Erin Napier has been warring with her own Instagram followers since last Wednesday (September 10) when conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was fatally shot.
Hours after Kirk was shot in the neck while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, Erin took to her Instagram Story and shared a brief message, writing, “Only the demonized celebrate death.”
Erin, who hosts HGTV shows with her husband Ben Napier, seemed to draw the ire of some fans with her message, leading to her sharing many of the responses on her Instagram Stories over the next few days.
“I am revolted by some of the comments in my DMs,” Erin wrote in a follow-up post. “Unfollow me, immediately, if you could be one of those comments. Christ, have mercy on us all.”
The situation heated up on Friday (September 12) when the interior designer began posting screenshots of specific messages from her followers, many of them criticizing her for her stance. In one message, a user threatened to stop watching her shows and toss their Napier products.
“Because I will not celebrate murder,” Erin captioned the post.
Another message came from an alleged psychiatrist, who blasted Erin for her support of Kirk. “Really Erin? You are homeschooling your precious children in LAUREL, MS (of all places) to prevent something like this from happening to them,” the user wrote, referencing Kirk’s stance on guns.
“This guy was ALL FOR IT,” the poster continued. “He died for what he believed in. God have mercy on his soul because I do not.”
Erin fired back, “You know nothing about why I am homeschooling my children, you sick goblin.”
Another message she shared saw a former fan writing, “Thanks for making an unfollow easy peasy.”
Again, Erin replied, “Because I will not celebrate murder.”
Erin’s Instagram Stories have since expired; however, on Sunday (September 14), she shared a prayer post, writing, “Give us strength to love, give us your peace and your kindness even as we reject wickedness and let it be what the world sees in me.” One of the first comments underneath the post came from fellow HGTV star Jenny Marrs who simply stated, “Amen.”
Kirk was shot and killed last Wednesday while giving a speech as part of his “American Comeback Tour” series.
On Friday, President Donald Trump confirmed that police had arrested the shooting suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who is accused of aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, and other charges.
After the birth of her seventh baby with husband Chad Paine on August 25, Erin Bates developed a severe UTI and kidney infection, which sent her into septic shock. In the latest update from Paine, he revealed how things have recently taken a turn for the worse.
Taking to Instagram on Thursday (September 4), Paine shared how Erin “suffered a lengthy and severe seizure” on Wednesday night (September 3), leaving her “extremely weak” and “only half conscious.” He noted that his wife is currently in the ICU and “doctors are running scans and tests to determine the cause.”
“Up to this point, Erin’s infection was getting better, but we found ourselves back in a place of heartache, uncertainty, and tears,” he wrote in an emotional post alongside photos of himself by his wife’s bedside. “As her husband, it is one of the hardest things I’ve ever faced — to sit by her side and watch her struggle while being so helpless to ease her suffering.”
He went on to say he “can’t even imagine life without my best friend,” adding, “We hold on to faith that healing is coming, even in the midst of the unknown. Your prayers are felt and we are forever grateful.”
Erin, who now shares seven children with Paine, was one of the stars of the reality series Bringing Up Bates, the Up TV series that centered on the daily lives of Gil and Kelly Jo Bates, their 19 children, and their extended family. The show ran for ten seasons between 2015 and 2021.
Previously, Paine announced the arrival of baby number seven, Henry Blythe, born on August 25th after “a long and emotional labor,” according to his August 27 Instagram post. “Henry is doing wonderful, but we would so appreciate your prayers for Erin as she continues to recover from some complications,” Paine wrote at the time.
Fans, friends, and family jumped into the comments of Paine’s latest post to share their prayers and well-wishes.
“We are continuing to pray every day for a miraculous healing. Love you all,” wrote Erin’s brother, Lawson Bates.
Lawson’s wife, former Nickelodeon star Tiffany Espensen, added, “Our thoughts, prayers, and love are with you Paine Family ❤️ We love y’all so much!”
“Sweet Erin 😭💔 Praying right now for her complete healing, and will continue!” wrote another.
“Chad, we are upholding you all in prayer daily 🙏🏻,” said one commenter.
Another added, “Thank you so much for taking time to update us. I know this has to be unimaginably hard.”
“This is so hard to read. I’m praying for Erin,” added one user.

While announcing her 12th album would arrive Oct. 3, 2025, Taylor said that she selected just 12 songs for The Life of a Showgirl to keep “the bar really high” and make the record “just right” with a holistic theme (so no, there won’t be more songs coming).
The inspiration was about going “behind the curtain” of the Eras Tour.
“This album was about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour,” Taylor said, “which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant.”
She continued, “It just comes from the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life, so that effervescence has come through on this record.”
On her days off from the tour, Taylor worked with hitmakers Max Martin and Shellback in Sweden to create these “infectious anthems,” including the titular track with Eras Tour opener Sabrina Carpenter.

Spaghetti models have shown that Erin wouldn’t make landfall anywhere on the East Coast, but on August 14, meteorologists announced that Erin had a slight shift eastward. At 5 a.m. ET that morning, the system in the Atlantic Ocean was about 860 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands with maximum sustained winds of 50 miles per hour, an increase from 45 miles per hour earlier this week.
By August 16, forecasters maintained that Erin was not expected to make landfall on the East Coast of the U.S.. However, the storm would create dangerous surfing and swimming conditions for coastal communities.
By August 21, Erin became a category 2 storm and caused a surge in seawater near South Carolina’s Outer Banks.
The NHC advised that Erin could move close enough to the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico to have some impact, but it’s still unclear how much of a potential impact Erin could produce.
