John Oliver Bids Adieu To ‘Deeply Weird’ Eric Adams, Welcomes Mamdani

by jummy84 November 10, 2025
written by jummy84

Last Week Tonight honored its native New York City as John Oliver conducted an audit of Eric Adams‘s scandal-ridden mayoralty — and welcomed recently minted mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, an introduction that led to resounding cheers from the live audience.

As Oliver discussed Mamdani’s triumphant speech — which he characterized as an “entirely earned victory lap” and “pretty satisfying” — he noted that some, such as CNN’s Van Jones, critiqued the words as “sharp” and a “character switch.”

“He just weathered one of the most Islamophobic campaigns in recent memory,” the late-night host countered. “‘I wish Andrew Cuomo only the best in private live’ is a frankly superhuman level of grace to extend to a man who has yet to pronounce your name correctly once.”

After concluding his story for the night — on how America’s singular felony murder laws exacerbate mass incarceration — Oliver returned to the topic of his show’s home city, delivering a eulogy of sorts for the outgoing Adams administration, scheduled to depart Jan. 1.

Calling the leadup to the NYC mayoral election “truly insane from start to finish” — as best exemplified by a viral debate question concerning parades — Oliver mulled over the fact that one local news segment couldn’t locate a single resident to express disappointment in Adams dropping out of the race.

“They couldn’t find anyone! This city has 8 million people. I’m a 1000% sure I could find someone who would vote for a pigeon fucking a bagel in Central Park, but no takers for Eric Adams — that has got to hurt,” he quipped.

In offering “one last look at Eric Adams because he is a deeply weird man,” the political comic paid homage to Adams’s amusing flag-raising ceremonies, in which he has repeatedly stated that New York is the [insert given nation’s capital city] of America.

Though Adams began as a popular candidate with an over 60% approval rating, his stats dropped over 40% in the span of two years. Oliver outlined “the true hallmark of the Adams administration was its constant scandals,” going over a laundry list of corruption, bribery and conspiracy charges faced by a number of admin officials.

“This is a great city, but that is not because of you [Adams] and sometimes it is in active spite of you,” Oliver concluded. “You know, if I could sum up Eric Adams’s mayoralty in one word, it’d probably be: New York, because this is a place where every day you wake up you can experience a plane crashing into our Trade Center, to a fake vegan, non-Alabaman leaving a ghost-filled Gracie Mansion to lecture all of us on family, business, public safety and, of course, clitoral stimulation.”

And though Oliver made sure to include the “soundbite bonanza” that was Republican Curtis Sliwa’s campaign — from his anecdotes about his historical clashes with organized crime to his shots at Andrew Cuomo — the host did forget one gem from the Adams administration: his much-memed, bizarre anti-drug PSA video.

Why Did Michael J. Fox Replace Eric Stoltz in 'Back to the Future'?

Why Did Michael J. Fox Replace Eric Stoltz in ‘Back to the Future’? – Hollywood Life

Back to the Future reigns as one of the most famous film franchises in history. The year 1985 has become a staple in pop culture (even a song by SR-71 is titled after the year), and one of the most iconic figures from that era is Marty McFly: a high school student who travels to the future, then the past, in all three movies. Though the world knows Michael J. Fox brought the character to life, some don’t realize that the role was initially given to Eric Stoltz, whom Michael replaced weeks after production had already begun.

Now that Michael has released his book, Future Boy, which details his hectic schedule balancing Back to the Future and Family Ties, the Parkinson’s Disease advocate revealed what actually happened when he replaced Eric.

Here, Hollywood Life has the breakdown of why Michael replaced Eric and how the two really feel about each other.

Why Did Michael J. Fox Replace Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly?

Michael was the original choice to play Marty in Back to the Future, but his obligation to the Family Ties filming schedule took priority. So, Eric was cast in the role but was replaced by Michael because director Robert Zemeckis envisioned a more comical portrayal of Marty. Eric brought more of a deeper, emotional substance to the character.

Via Entertainment Weekly, Michael wrote in Future Boy, “They had already shot for over a month. Unfortunately, the dailies were disappointing. Eric was an immensely talented actor, but the creative team felt that he just wasn’t the right fit for Marty McFly.”

Michael’s co-stars have also weighed in on the production team’s devastating decision to replace Eric weeks after they had already begun filming. Per Digital Spy, Christopher Lloyd (who played scientist Doc Brown) previously said he “felt for Eric” when he was let go.

I know it’ll never happen ‘officially’…but I still hold out hope that one day we’ll get to see an alternate cut of Back to the Future with Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly, given that roughly 80% of of filming was complete. pic.twitter.com/eufo472kR2

— Mark’s Yesterworld (@Yester_World) January 19, 2023

“He was a really good actor,” Christopher noted, before adding, “Although he was doing the part well, he was not bringing that element of comedy to the screen.”

Lea Thompson had similar remarks, per Digital Spy. The actress, who played Lorraine McFly in Back to the Future, had worked with Eric on the 1984 movie The Wild Life and admitted it was “hard” to see Eric go.

“It was hard for me because I was really good friends with Eric,” Lea previously said. “Eric is such a different actor and he could be very difficult. … [He] had such an intensity. He saw drama in things. He wasn’t really a comedian, and they needed a comedian. He’s super-funny in real life, but he didn’t approach his work like that, and they really needed somebody who had those chops.”

Was Eric Stoltz Fired From Back to the Future?

Yes, Eric was, indeed, fired from Back to the Future, but not because of any bad blood with the production. As previously noted, Michael was chosen to replace Eric because the creative team wanted an actor with a more comical approach in playing Marty.

Are Michael J. Fox & Eric Stoltz Friends?

Yes, Michael wrote in Future Boy that he reached out to Eric 40 years after he took the Pulp Fiction actor’s place as Marty. In one excerpt, Michael noted he “was prepared for the likelihood” that Eric would “prefer” to remain silent on the matter. The fellow actors had never met before Michael reached out.

“If your answer is ‘piss off and leave me alone’… That works, too,” Michael wrote to Eric, he revealed in his book. However, Eric responded with a “beautifully written reply,” which jokingly began with, “Piss off, and leave me alone! I jest.”

“Eric was thoughtful about my outreach, and although he respectfully declined to participate in the book, he seemed open to the idea of getting together,” Michael explained in his book.

After Eric visited Michael at his New York home, it was clear to both of them that “neither of us had an issue with the other,” the Teen Wolf star wrote in Future Boy.

“What transpired on Back to the Future had not made us enemies or fated rivals; we were just two dedicated actors who had poured equal amounts of energy into the same role,” Michael noted. “The rest had nothing to do with us. As it turned out, we had much more in common than our spin as Marty.”

Eric Dane confided in Aaron Lazar about ALS battle

6 October 2025

Eric Dane told Aaron Lazar about his ALS battle months before he went public with his health crisis.

Eric Dane confided in Aaron Lazar about his ALS diagnosis

The Grey’s Anatomy star revealed in April that he is battling ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) – also known as motor neurone disease – and now fellow actor Aaron – who also has ALS – has revealed Eric confided in him about his illness while they filming new Amazon thriller series Countdown together.

Broadway star Aaron told Variety: “When I met Eric and he shook my hand, I could see and feel something was off.

“I asked him what was going on. Eric said to me: ‘I think I have what you have’.”

Aaron filmed a guest spot in the show alongside regular castmember Eric and he revealed the team behind the scenes were incredibly supportive.

He told the publication: “I was in a wheelchair and I was so nervous they weren’t going to be able to dress me in my suits.

“But it turns out they knew exactly what to do because they had already been working with Eric and what he had been going through.”

Aaron was diagnosed with ALS in 2022 and went public with his health battle two years later.

When his guest spot on Countdown was announced, Aaron praised Amazon for their “boldness” in casting him. In a post on Instagram, he wrote: “On June 25, Amazon’s new thriller series The Countdown premiered, and spoiler alert, this season features two actors with ALS. A first in television history?

“I don’t know. But I am honored to be a part of it. Thank you @realericdane you’re a bad***.

“Thank you to Amazon, the producers and creators. Your boldness in casting disability friendly is appreciated more than you know … “

Eric was recently due to make a public appearance at the Emmy Awards to hand out one of the prizes with his former Grey’s Anatomy co-star Jesse Williams, but he ended up skipping the event after taking a tumble at home.

Explaining his absence from the event, Eric told the Washington Post newspaper: “ALS is a nasty disease. “So I was in the hospital during the Emmys getting stitches put in my head.

“I missed an opportunity I was really looking forward to. It would have been great to see Jesse and get reunited with some of my peers, and to be able to present in front of my colleagues I thought would have a been special moment.

“I was a really upset about it, but you know, there was nothing I could do about it.”

After going public with his diagnosis in April, Eric admitted he felt he “had” to be open about his condition to avoid speculation and he’s been blown away by the level of “love and support” he has received.

He said: “It wasn’t something I ever really wanted to do. It was something I felt like I had to do.

“It was getting increasingly difficult to hide what was going on. And instead of letting people speculate what was happening, I just said it. … And I’ve never experienced a bigger outpouring of love and support than I have after I announced that.”

Eric Dane Reveals Why He Missed Emmy’s ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Reunion

by jummy84 October 3, 2025
written by jummy84

While Eric Dane missed a recent planned Grey’s Anatomy reunion, he made a hospital visit on Emmys night last month.

Following his ALS diagnosis, the actor revealed he was “getting stitches put in my head” after losing balance and falling in his kitchen, shortly before he was scheduled to present with fellow cast alum Jesse Williams at the 77th annual awards show.

“ALS is a nasty disease. I missed an opportunity I was really looking forward to,” Dane told the Washington Post. “It would have been great to see Jesse and get reunited with some of my peers, and to be able to present in front of my colleagues, I thought would have been a special moment. So I was really upset about it, but you know, there was nothing I could do about it.”

After the Emmy producers revealed the planned reunion for America’s longest-running primetime medical drama, in which Dane played Dr. Mark ‘McSteamy’ Sloan, Deadline reported that Dane pulled out of the appearance at the last minute, and Williams presented solo.

The Euphoria star previously revealed his diagnosis to People in April. “I have been diagnosed with ALS,” he said in a statement at the time.

“I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week,” added Dane. “I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”

The Mayo Clinic describes ALS as “a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord,” causing a “loss of muscle control. The disease gets worse over time.”

Eric Adams’ Ex-Lover To Release Tell-All Book About Their Relationship

by jummy84 October 1, 2025

Jasmine Ray, once tapped by Mayor Eric Adams to serve as his “sports czar,” is now preparing to publish a tell-all book that she claims will lift the veil on their personal dealings.

According to The Daily News, the upcoming memoir, Political Humanity, promises to reveal the “hidden relationship” Ray says she shared with Adams — one she characterizes as both passionate and tumultuous.

“From the shadows of City Hall to the silence of closed-door meetings, Jasmine Ray reveals her untold role in the life of New York City’s Mayor, Eric Adams,” the book’s description teases.

Instagram

“Their hidden relationship — marked by intimacy, sacrifice, and betrayal — mirrors the larger struggles of politics itself: the tension between personal humanity and public expectation.”

Adams, however, has insisted that any romance he had with Ray did not pay a factor in their professional dealings. According to his press secretary, Kayla Mamalek, the two did not have any “romantic relations” while “working together.”

New York City Mayor Eric Adams arrives for a press conference at City Hall on June 26, 2025 in New York City. Adams announced his re-election campaign on the steps of City Hall days after State Rep. Zohran Mamdani (D-NY) won the Democratic nomination. Adams, who will be running on an independent ticket, called Mamdani “a snake oil salesman” a day after the primary election.

Ray’s appointment as Adams’ “sports czar” in 2022 raised eyebrows from the beginning. The newly created role carried a $161,400 salary but had no precedent in City Hall. Still, Adams spoke glowingly of Ray at the time, citing her “deep passion” and “wealth of experience,” and declaring, “I’m proud to have [her] join our administration.”

The book arrives at a precarious moment for Adams, who recently announced that he would officially drop out of the mayoral race after once seeking reelection. With Political Humanity set to stir the waters, it remains to be seen how Ray’s revelations — whether dismissed or embraced — will affect Adams’ political legacy and public perception.

The Justice Department is reportedly in talks to drop its corruption case against Mayor Adams. Adams is schedule to stand trial on federal corruption charges on April 21, 2025.

Eric Dane determined to fight ‘to the last breath’ amid his ALS battle

Eric Dane is determined to fight ‘to the last breath’ amid his ALS battle

The 52-year-old actor – who revealed in April he had been diagnosed with ALS, also known as motor neurone disease – has two daughters, Billie, 15, and 13-year-old Georgia, with this wife Rebecca Gayheart, and he is desperate to see the teenagers “get married” and “have grandkids” one day.

Speaking in a TikTok video shared by US Representative Eric Swalwell, of California, Dane told the lawyer and politician: “I have two daughters at home. I want to see them, you know, graduate college, and get married and maybe have grandkids.

“You know, I want to be there for all that.

“So, I’m going to fight to the last breath on this one.”

The Euphoria star’s latest comments came in a meeting in Washington, DC, alongside members of non-profit organisation I AM ALS.

Dane is backing ACT for ALS, which aims to accelerate the development of treatments for ALS and other rare neurodegenerative diseases.

He added in the video: “ALS is the last thing they want to diagnose anybody with.

“So often, it takes all this time for these people to be diagnosed, well, then it precludes them from being a part of these clinical trials.

“That’s why ACT for ALS is so great, because it broadens the access for everybody.”

Last week, Rebecca said Eric and his family are focusing on professional support as they navigate life following his ALS diagnosis.

She explained: “We have some professional therapists who are helping us, and we’re just trying to have some hope and do it with dignity, grace and love.

“I mean, it’s heart-breaking.

“My girls are really suffering, and we’re just trying to get through it. It’s a tough time.”

Eric Dane and his family are focusing on professional support as they navigate life following his ALS diagnosis

The actor, 52, revealed in April that he had been diagnosed with ALS, also known as motor neurone disease, in a statement to People, and his wife Rebecca Gayheart has now said at Step Up’s 2025 Inspiration Awards she and the couple’s two daughters – Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13 – are learning to manage their “new normal”.

She added at the event: “We have some professional therapists who are helping us, and we’re just trying to have some hope and do it with dignity, grace and love.

“I mean, it’s heartbreaking. My girls are really suffering, and we’re just trying to get through it. It’s a tough time.”

Eric said in a statement announcing his diagnosis: “I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”

In June, during an interview with Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America, he reflected on the reality of living with the illness, adding: “I wake up every day, and I’m immediately reminded that this is happening. It’s not a dream.”

Rebecca Gayheart, who married Eric in 2004, filed for divorce in 2018 but the couple later reconciled. She told People: “I don’t think I’m at a place yet where I can pull out a positive nugget. I’m not there yet. I mean, we’re definitely dealing with something that has brought us all together, and Eric will always be my family, whether we’re married or not, or living in the same house or not, but yeah, we are closer, but we don’t like the reason why.

“It’s a horrible disease, and I wish that there was a cure. I hope they find one soon, because it is just so sad.”

Earlier this month, Eric announced a partnership with the nonprofit I Am ALS, a day after missing an appearance at the 2025 Emmy awards where he was scheduled to present with fellow Grey’s Anatomy star Jesse Williams.

In a video message, he said: “I’m Eric, an actor, a father and now a person living with ALS. For over a century, ALS has been incurable, and we’re done accepting the status quo. We need the fastest path to a cure, and that’s why I partnered with I Am ALS on the Push for Progress. Our goal: a billion dollars over the next three years.”

He added: “Together, we’ll renew the landmark law Act for ALS, give promising treatments to thousands of patients like me, and finally, finally, push towards ending this disease.”

The legislation, signed in 2021 and due to expire in 2026, authorised the Department of Health and Human Services to fund treatments and directed the Food and Drug Administration to dedicate resources toward a cure.

View from My Sofa: Eric Idle

by jummy84 September 25, 2025
written by jummy84

Are you watching anything else?

Television now seems to be people trying to bonk each other on islands, game shows or news shows, so it’s not terribly interesting. I mean, it’s been stolen by the streamers, which is really bad news. They’ve uninvented television and it’s very sad.

Do you miss watching television?

Growing up, my generation – so that’s all of the Pythons – grew up without television. That’s quite a big difference, rarely observed. We grew up with radio, where the words involve your imagination much more. On radio, the Goons could set the Thames on fire.

Is listening to radio where your love of language comes from?

It meant we had a bias towards language; Terry Gilliam was the one putting in all the imagery. If you look at the Python sketches that are really funny, they all evolved from language – Argument Clinic, for example. Later, as we did on a couple of German shows, they were largely visual sketches. But that was because we had to learn them in German and we didn’t want to talk.

When did you realise that you were on to something with Monty Python?

When we were given our TV show, it was late on a Sunday night and the BBC was just trying to see if anybody was awake after 10pm and the pubs were closed. What was really lovely was that we could please ourselves, there was no one overseeing us, so it was executive-free comedy and all the funnier for it. No executive has ever improved a comedy.

What makes you laugh today?

What South Park is doing with Trump is heroic and I know they’ve done him a lot of damage. There’s a reason Hitler and Trump get rid of the comedians first. They hate being laughed at. So, it’s great that Governor Newsom is taking the p*** out of Trump and his hands. Comedy is saying the right thing at the wrong time. It’s so important. It’s telling truth to power and it’s keeping people sane. I was in the war, we laughed at Hitler and it makes a difference because it diminishes their power. I think it connects with an undercurrent of anti- and that’s vital. Stephen Colbert [who just won an Emmy as host of the US Late Show] was fired by his network very pusillanimously, but he’s got till May to say anything he likes.

You’re prodigious in your output. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I think it comes from boarding school. I was there for 12 years in Wolverhampton, and it wasn’t the most exciting place to be. Reading became a great escape. And the older you got, the more you wanted to read. History and literature is fascinating. I like geography, too. I made my own escape.

You’re touring again. What appeals about performing live?

I’ve always liked getting out there. On that stage, you must make the audience laugh, and if you do, you can surf that laughter; it lifts you up. So I’ve tried to go on stage at least once a year, especially in my later years, because it’s important to scare yourself, and to make sure you’ve still got that skill.

Is it a farewell tour?

Everywhere should always be goodbye. At my age [82], most of your friends are dead, which isn’t great. But it’s important to remember them, and remember them as funny. In my show, I talk about and show clips of old friends and sing songs about them. I sing a song called This May Be the Last Time You See Me, because it might be.

Your song Always Look on the Bright Side of Life gets played at funerals a lot. What will be played at yours?

Well, I used to say Sit on My Face, but my wife said I can’t say that any more.

Eric Kripke Gives ‘The Boys: Mexico’ Update

by jummy84 September 13, 2025
written by jummy84

As Prime Video heads south of the border with the next The Boys offshoot, franchise boss Eric Kripke has an update for fans.

The 2x Emmy nominee recently revealed that The Boys: Mexico, which hails from executive producers Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal, is “super fun” and “a totally different tone” from its parent series.

“The pilot of [The] Boys: Mexico is being developed right now,” Kripke told Collider. “It’s very cool. I mean, who knows — obviously you never know, but I can say that the world itself meets the standard of all of our spin-offs. It’s our world but a totally different tone, and it’s super fun. Gael and Diego are executive producers, which is amazing and [they] really engaged with it, so — short answer is we’ll see, but I think the script is good.”

Back in 2023, Deadline reported that The Boys franchise was expanding with the Mexico iteration, which will be penned by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (Blue Beetle). With the series expected to film in Mexico, no plot details have yet been revealed.

Luna and Bernal, longtime friends who previously starred together in Alfonso Cuarón’s Y Tu Mamá También (2001) will potentially star in the spin-off as well, although not in major roles.

In July, Kripke wrapped the fifth and final season of The Boys, which premieres in 2026. Meanwhile, Season 2 of Gen V debuts Sept. 17, and the prequel series Vought Rising is currently in the works. Prime also has the animated spin-off The Boys Presents: Diabolical.
