Doctor warns that people with underlying heart conditions should avoid energy drinks, explains why: ‘Raise heart rate…’

When exhaustion hits and deadlines pile up, it’s tempting to crack open yet another energy drink for that instant burst of alertness. But while the boost may feel harmless, it can come at a serious cost – especially if you have an underlying heart condition. The combination of high caffeine levels and added stimulants can strain the heart far more than most people realise, making caution essential for anyone relying on these drinks to power through long hours.

Dr Kunal Sood, an anesthesiologist and interventional pain medicine physician has revealed why it is best for people with heart conditions to avoid energy drinks. In an Instagram video posted on November 15, the doctor explains how these stimulant-packed beverages impact the heart and, in the worst cases, can even trigger cardiac arrest.

How do energy drinks affect the heart?

Many people reach for energy drinks to get a quick boost from their high caffeine content, but that sudden rush can pose serious risks to the heart in certain individuals. Dr Sood explains, “Drinks like Celsius, Red Bull, and Monster contain high doses of caffeine along with other stimulants such as taurine and guarana. Together, these compounds raise heart rate and blood pressure for hours after you drink them. And in some people, they can disrupt normal heart rhythm.”

He adds that for someone with an underlying or genetic heart condition, this sudden surge in stimulation can trigger dangerous arrhythmias or, in rare cases, even cardiac arrest. According to the doctor, “Some studies have also linked heavy frequent energy drink use to hypertension, clotting changes and vascular stress, though long-term evidence for direct heart disease risk is still limited.”

Recommended caffeine limit

Dr Sood highlights, “Experts generally recommend keeping caffeine intake under 400 milligrams per day. That’s about four small cups of coffee. They also recommend avoiding energy drinks entirely if you have any heart rhythm issues or sensitivity to stimulants.”

The doctor emphasises that these caffeine-packed energy drinks might help you power through a workout or late nights, but they also burden your heart with more strain than you realise. “Sometimes the best energy comes from hydration, nutrition, and recovery. Not another can,” says Dr Sood.”

Modern Emo Band Brings Big Energy to Philly

by jummy84 November 12, 2025
written by jummy84

As Millennials hit the age where classic rock channels now include their music, it’s no surprise that acts are striking while the nostalgia iron is hot. And what better way to recall your youth than through emo music, the genre best-equipped for obsessing about love and death and hope and all of life’s big questions?

2025 has been a big year for emo milestones — My Chemical Romance headlined a stadium tour! Rilo Kiley reunited! The Academy Is… announced a 20th anniversary “Almost Here” tour! — but it hasn’t yielded much new music from the genre’s A-list.

Luckily, there’s a new generation of pop punkers who were heavily influenced by the bands of yesteryear, and among the best is Michigan-based Hot Mulligan, whose ambitious fourth album “The Sound a Body Makes When It’s Still” dropped in August. Filled with tight riffs, sharp songwriting and lead singer Tades Sanville’s unique screams, it’s the kind of album that could sound more dazzling in a studio compared to a live setting. But unlike so many of their forebears who abandoned chops in order to focus on energy, Hot Mulligan amped things up while sounding great during their Nov. 8 headlining show at the Fillmore Philadelphia.

The band charged through the first side of “Sound a Body Makes” to start the set, with drummer Brandon Blakeley and bassist Jonah Kramer creating a twisty, moving foundation to anchor even the fastest pop-punk moments. The interplay of rhythm guitarist Chris Freeman and lead Ryan Malicsi was impressive, with fast riffing and tapping that evoked midwest emo heroes like American Football. Additionally, Sanville and Freeman’s co-mingling vocals were, depending on the moment, complementary in their harmony or shredded in their screaming, without screeching into off-key territory. It’s an impressive feat to see the band’s complex elements all lock in together, especially when many genre legends were eager to step aside and let the audience sing the high notes live.

Despite the band’s focus on craft, they were also there to have a good time and pass those vibes onto the audience. Sanville’s lengthy hair was flying as he stalked the stage, occasionally stopping to scream wildly, his body contorting as if struck by lightning. New album highlights “And a Big Load,” a breakneck dance party about the challenges of sobriety, and “Monica Lewinskibidi,” a hooky yet mournful tribute to missing a sick loved one on tour, were as sharp and blistering as anything in the band’s early work.

Meanwhile, the hugely energetic crowd was constantly crowdsurfing and smushing against the front rail. Electricity ran through the fans, with circle pits opening during older favorites like “Shhhh! Golf Is On,” “Equip Sunglasses” and “BCKYRD.”

Ultimately, for elder Millennial emo fans whose necks get tired from headbanging and feet get sore after standing (let alone moshing!) for a 90-minute set, it’s heartening to know bands like Hot Mulligan inspire the next generation of punks to get sweaty and crazy in the GA section.

Physician explains the real reason you have to depend on energy drinks to get through the day: ‘They work by blocking…’

by jummy84 November 5, 2025
written by jummy84

It’s 2 pm, your energy is crashing, and you’re reaching for yet another can of your go-to energy drink to push through the rest of the day. Sounds familiar? While it may seem like a harmless pick-me-up, depending on multiple cans just to stay awake or focused isn’t just harmful for your health – it could be your body’s way of signalling that something deeper is wrong.

Dr. Mezher reveals that energy drinks don’t provide true energy but mask tiredness by blocking adenosine.

Also Read | Relying on energy drinks for focus? Doctor reveals how they affect your health: ‘Effects on the heart, sleep…’

Dr Sermed Mezher, a family medicine physician and health content creator based in England, has explained how energy drinks can trap people in a vicious cycle of dependence – where they’re used to mask deeper issues that actually need attention. In an Instagram video posted on October 4, the physician breaks down the mechanism of these beverages, explaining the real reason people become reliant on them, and warns about the dangers of overuse.

How do energy drinks work?

According to Dr Mezher, energy drinks don’t actually give you energy. He explains, “They work by either blocking you from feeling tired or potentially regulating dopamine levels. You do that by blocking a hormone called adenosine which makes you feel sleepy but also acts like a break on dopamine which we know is affected in some conditions.”

Why do you need energy drinks?

Energy drinks are used by many people for a quick boost in alertness, focus or stamina, especially when struggling with fatigue, poor concentration, or low motivation. However, according to Dr Mezher, “In some cases, this pattern can become a form of self-medication, where individuals use caffeine and stimulants in energy drinks to temporarily mask deeper issues such as insomnia, chronic stress, anxiety, or undiagnosed ADHD.”

The physician explains, “Dopamine levels can be low in the areas of the frontal lobe responsible for planning and organisation in people with ADHD. So we commonly see people self-medicating with caffeine before they even know they have a diagnosis.”

People with insomnia or poor sleep hygiene tend to rely more on energy drinks to deal with tiredness, instead of addressing the real problem. Dr Mezher also highlights, “Excessive tiredness can also be caused by a slew of other things like vitamin deficiencies such as D and B12 or potentially myalgic encephalomyelitis or depression.” He stresses that needing chemical reinforcements like energy drinks to get through the day is not normal and recommends getting checked for underlying issues.

Dangers of overuse

The physician emphasises that the short term effects of energy drinks – increased energy, sharper focus and enhanced productivity – might seem helpful but they come at a hidden cost. He explains, “Relying on energy drinks can lead to tolerance, dependence, and side effects such as palpitations, elevated blood pressure, irritability, and disrupted sleep. Over time, this can worsen the very problems people are trying to manage, creating a cycle of fatigue and overstimulation.”

Enrique Iglesias made a spectacular comeback to India after more than a decade, performing to sold-out crowds during his two-day concert in Mumbai on October 29 and 30. Held at the MMRDA Grounds in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), the concerts were part of the global tour of the “King of Latin Pop,” marking his first India performance since 2012.

Ahead of his shows, the 50-year-old Grammy-winning artist spoke to Zoom about why he decided to return. “It’s the people — their warmth and passion for music have always stayed with me,” Enrique said, reflecting on his earlier visits in 2004 and 2012. He added, “I’ve heard so much about the incredible energy in Mumbai — I couldn’t wait to feel that connection again.”

The concerts were nothing short of magical — a blend of nostalgia, emotion, and energy. Opening acts by Progressive Brothers and Jonita Gandhi set the perfect tone for the night before Enrique took the stage for a 90-minute electrifying set featuring 19 of his greatest hits. Fans sang and danced along to classics like Hero, Bailamos, and Tonight (I’m Lovin’ You), as the singer’s charisma lit up the Mumbai sky.

In his interview, Enrique shared what he believes makes his music connect so deeply with fans: “It’s about emotion — when something comes from the heart, people feel it.” When asked about his “King of Latin Pop” title, he humbly replied, “I just try to keep making music that feels honest and connects with people.”

The event saw several Bollywood stars — Malaika Arora, Vidya Balan, Rakul Preet Singh, Jackky Bhagnani, Rubina Dilaik, and Disha Parmar, among others — dancing to his timeless tunes, celebrating the unforgettable return of Enrique Iglesias to India.

Halloween 2025: Deepika Padukone-Alia Bhatt Pose As Lady Singham-Lara Croft, Nita Ambani Channels Audrey Hepburn Energy And More Bollywood Celebs Dance On Spooky Night- Watch

by jummy84 November 1, 2025

Bollywood stars marked Halloween with a glamorous and spooky celebration, hosting a star-studded party attended by luminaries like Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Nita Ambani, and more. This year’s Bollywood Halloween was nothing short of spectacular, with social media influencer Orry sharing a highly anticipated video capturing the festivities in Mumbai.

Here’s How Bollywood Celebrated Halloween This Year

The clip features Orry dressed as Sebastian the crab from The Little Mermaid. Following him, Nita Ambani stunned everyone by channelling Audrey Hepburn’s iconic look from Breakfast at Tiffany’s, sporting a black off-shoulder dress, a diamond tiara, and classic bangs, resembling the late Hollywood legend.

Alia Bhatt embraced her adventurous side as Lara Croft, donning a black t-shirt, shorts, and a braid. Deepika Padukone wowed in her Lady Singham costume, bringing her character to life for the special night. Ranveer Singh made a bold entrance as Deadpool, although Orry humorously mistook him for Spider-Man. Meanwhile, Akash Ambani and Shloka Mehta transformed into Gomez and Morticia Addams from The Addams Family. Even Aryan Khan, usually more reserved, made an appearance dressed as Jake Gyllenhaal’s character from Brokeback Mountain.

In his caption, Orry asked his followers to choose the best-dressed. Several celebrities and fans chimed in, with Ananya Panday and Khushi Kapoor both voting for Nita Ambani, calling her “Nita aunty,” while Janhvi Kapoor praised her, saying, “Nita aunty committed.”

What Is Halloween And Who Celebrates It?

Halloween is an annual festival observed on October 31, rooted in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. Traditionally, it signified the end of the harvest season and the start of winter—a time believed to thin the veil between the living and the dead. People lit bonfires and donned costumes to ward off wandering spirits. In recent decades, Halloween has gained popularity worldwide, embraced across cultures for its fun, imaginative, and creative spirit.

The Directors of The Showman’s Show, Jeremy & Johnny Lance, are excited to announce a new partnership for the 2025 show with Grid Faeries x Ecotricity, who will be using their 1-megawatt battery to supply sustainable energy to The Showman’s Show show’s custom built Exhibition Hall.

Grid Faeries, founded by Dale Vince OBE and Claire O’Neill in partnership with Ecotricity, is dedicated to transforming the way festivals and outdoor events are powered. The company delivers renewable energy solutions through onsite battery power, while also working towards permanent grid connections and exploring new localised green generation projects.

Grid Faeries x Ecotricity batteries have had a busy year, powering the Arcadia Dragonfly stage at Glastonbury, the Charlie Gillett stage at WOMAD, Massive Attack’s stage on Clifton Downs, Bristol, and APE and LIDO in Victoria Park.

Claire O’Neill, CEO and Co-founder said: “We’re pleased to be powering The Showman’s Show with our Grid Faeries battery packed with power from the wind and the sun. Our aim is to get the diesel out of live events – powering the show all about shows is a great chance to reach the audience we need to. First, we take out the diesel generators then we connect to the grid – that’s the mission.”

Johnny Lance states that “The Showman’s Show prides itself in being a platform to showcase new ideas and innovations.  This partnership not only will help us as an organiser meet our sustainability goals but also provides an opportunity for event organisers and suppliers to see this service in action and come and speak to the team at Grid Faeries to learn more”.

The Showman’s Show is held at Newbury Showground on the 22nd & 23rd of October.  It is free to attend.

UK Venues to Run on Renewable Energy

by jummy84 October 6, 2025
written by jummy84

AEG Europe announced a landmark agreement on Tuesday (Oct. 7) that will make its U.K. venues the first to run on the country’s greenest energy.

The European subsidiary of the global live entertainment promoter AEG has collaborated with green energy company Ecotricity on the agreement, which includes the introduction of PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements) with a 100% renewable energy supply, and is backed by hourly-matched REGOs (Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin).

Related

The PPAs will allocate specific renewable energy assets to a number of AEG’s venue portfolio in the U.K. including The O2 in London, indigo at The O2, Eventim Apollo, Watford Colosseum and University of Wolverhampton at The Halls. As a result, these venues will operate predominantly on the deepest green energy generated by solar and hydro assets and meet audit-level scrutiny and transparency standards.

“PPAs are widely recognised as the gold standard in energy procurement, and we’re proud to play a role in launching this first-of-its-kind agreement,” said Sam Booth, AEG Europe’s director of sustainability. “It marks a significant milestone in the ongoing journey to decarbonise the live entertainment industry, and we’re pleased to help drive this progress.”

Earlier this summer, AEG’s All Points East and LIDO festivals harnessed the power of renewable battery energy during their events. During the latter, Grid Faeries x Ecotricity powered the main stage and parts of the site with renewable electricity, a first for the English capital. Massive Attack’s headline show on June 6 in Victoria Park, east London saw the entire event site operating for more than 32 hours on battery power alone.

Dale Vince OBE, founder of Ecotricity, said: “This is big news for live music, as venues across Britain – including London’s iconic The O2 – will be powered by deep green energy. AEG has already been working with us to bring clean power to outdoor festivals like All Points East and LIDO earlier this summer, with our Grid Faeries x Ecotricity battery. Now they’re going even further – bringing green power indoors. It’s a major step forward, and a proper milestone on the road to greening up the live entertainment world.”

‘If I could dance, maybe Bollywood could work’: Enrique Iglesias on return to India and its ‘amazing energy’ | Exclusive

by jummy84 October 1, 2025
written by jummy84

If you are not a young Millennial, it is perhaps hard to describe the chokehold Enrique Iglesias had on an entire generation in the 2000s. The singer remains one of the most influential musicians of our time, and also one of the most popular international artists in India. That is why it is hard to understand why his last visit to these shores was in 2012. It may have taken 13 years, but Enrique is back, or at least he is en route.

HT EXCLUSIVE | Enrique Iglesias talks about his India return.

The singer will perform in Mumbai in October. Ahead of the much-anticipated visit, the multi-platinum singer spoke to Hindustan Times about India, the evolution of his music, and Bollywood, among other things.

On the return to India

When Enrique’s India visit was first announced in June, there was only one show scheduled. But the demand for tickets was so high that it sold out in minutes, and the promoters added another. Was the singer surprised? He says, “You never know when you first announce, but I will say that I had a great feeling about India specifically. The fans there are so amazing and dedicated.”

Enrique says he is in awe of India’s energy, something that makes the crowds here and performances very different. “The energy is incredible. The crowds, the fans, the people….EVERYTHING is always amazing,” he says. But then what took him 13 years to return to this ‘amazing’ place? “It just takes time to go around the world and then return. I would definitely love to come here more often in the future,” says Enrique.

The October concert will be Enrique Iglesias' first performance in India since 2012.
The October concert will be Enrique Iglesias’ first performance in India since 2012.

On Indian music and Bollywood

During his last visit to India, Enrique expressed his admiration for Indian music. He has collaborated with Sunidhi Chauhan, among other Indian artistes, over the years. “I am always listening and watching,” he says, as the conversation moves to Indian music. He adds, “I have done duets and remixes in the past with various Indian artists and am always considering the future.”

Everything about Enrique’s music and persona is very Indian. He is a heartthrob who sings, which begs the question as to why nobody from Bollywood has cast him yet. “Have there been offers?” we ask him. “If I could dance, maybe it would work,” he responds with a smile.

At 50, Enrique is completing 30 years in the music industry. It has been a while. When asked what changes he has seen in his music and style, the singer flips the question. “I would divert that question right back to the fans,” he says. But is there something he would change in his journey so far? Never to be outwitted, Enrique has the perfect reply ready: “I would have loved to come to India hundreds of more times.”

Enrique Iglesias’ India concert

Enrique will perform at the MMRDA Grounds in Mumbai on 29 and 30 October. Produced and promoted by EVA Live in partnership with BEW Live, this concert marks the multi-platinum-selling artist’s highly anticipated return to India after 13 years.

Operation Ivy: Energy Album Review

Operation Ivy: Energy Album Review

by jummy84 September 28, 2025
written by jummy84

Earlier this year, I was a staff writer on Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney. For 12 weeks, our show aired live on Netflix at 7 p.m. PT. In the afternoon on show days, we’d do a dress rehearsal. Writers would sit in for the celebrity guests, the studio audience was empty, but we had live callers, even though the rehearsal would never air. The topic for our fifth episode was “Getting Fired,” and at the dress rehearsal, Mulaney took a couple phone calls in the first interview segment. One caller identified himself as “Jesse from Los Angeles.” There was an echo on his call. Mulaney debated hanging up but gave him a chance. Jesse told a story about how he worked as a prep cook in his 20s. He was terrible at it, and yet, his boss wouldn’t fire him.

“Jesse, why couldn’t you get fired from that job?” Mulaney asked.

“Because my boss was a fan of my band,” Jesse said.

“What was your band called?” Mulaney said.

“The band was Operation Ivy, the punk band,” Jesse said.

Mulaney’s jaw dropped. “Oh my god, you were in Operation Ivy? That’s fuckin’ sick.”

I was just offstage watching this exchange, dumbstruck. Jesse Michaels called into our dress rehearsal? How did he even get the phone number? It was so unexpected. Michaels was self-effacing and charming while talking to Mulaney, a couple writers, and the show’s announcer, Richard Kind (who, in that episode, was in character as Gene Simmons because he got hit on the head with a Kiss LP). After a few minutes of conversation, Mulaney said, “I gotta hang up on you, Jesse, but Operation Ivy rules.”

After the rehearsal, the writers and producers convened to receive notes from Netflix. One of the suits sent a note that said, “You gotta get the Op Ivy guy to call back for the live show. That was incredible.” Mulaney considered the note for a beat, but waved it off. When spontaneous magic strikes in a dress rehearsal, it can be a fool’s errand to try and recreate that moment on live TV.

Michaels’ phone call to Mulaney’s dress rehearsal gave me a brief but true Op Ivy experience. Like the band, that phone call was only experienced by a handful of people. It was a blink-or-you’ll-miss-it moment that only happened once, and would never be replicated.

Like an atom being split by nuclear fission, Op Ivy was a ball of fire blazing at punk clubs and backyard shows that extinguished before the world could catch on. All that’s left behind is Energy. It’s a remarkable document of a band that had a scene in the palm of its hand. You had to have been there.
