Sassy 009’s forthcoming debut album Dreamer+ is shaping up to be a good one. The Oslo-based producer announced the record with “Butterflies,” which we named one of the Best Songs Of The Week, and she tapped Blood Orange for the following single “Tell Me.” Today’s new single is a dark, clubby banger called “Enemy,” which boasts some sticky melodies, rattling breakbeats, and maximalists synths. Watch Mikaela Kautzky’s video for the track below.

Dreamer+ is out 1/16 on Heaven-Sent/[PIAS] Électronique.

Deep Cut Friday: ‘B Side Wins Again’ by Public Enemy

by jummy84 November 8, 2025
written by jummy84

Each week, SPIN digs into the catalogs of great artists and highlights songs you might not know for our Deep Cut Friday series.

Vinyl singles have historically featured the most accessible and radio-friendly song on the A side, but every now and again, DJs and music fans have flipped the record over and decided they preferred the B side, elevating classics like the Smiths’ “How Soon Is Now?” and Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive.” Chuck D, who played records for groundbreaking hip-hop shows on the Adelphi University radio station WBAU and on WLIR, made that dynamic the basis of the Public Enemy track “B Side Wins Again.” In the song’s central metaphor, Black America is the overlooked flipside of the country’s white mainstream culture.

Appropriately, “B Side Wins Again” made its debut on the B side of Public Enemy’s 1989 single “Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos.” As with many of Public Enemy’s songs of the era, “B Side Wins Again” is a dense collage of samples, with the Bomb Squad assembling shards of songs by the Commodores, Kool & the Gang, and the Jazz Crusaders. A year later, a slightly remixed version of “B Side Wins Again” gained greater renown on Public Enemy’s third album Fear of a Black Planet, where it appropriately follows an instrumental titled “Leave This Off Your Fuckin’ Charts.”

Public Enemy revisited the song with “B Side Wins Again (Scattershot Remix)” on the 2002 album Revolverlution. Three years later, Chuck D guested on DJ Spooky and Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo’s version of “B Side Wins Again” for their album Drums of Death. In June 2025, Public Enemy began working the song into their concert setlists for the first time in over a decade, with Chuck D rapping just the fourth verse of “B Side Wins Again” during a show in Florence, Italy.

Three more essential Public Enemy deep cuts:

“Timebomb”

By the time Public Enemy’s debut album Yo! Bum Rush the Show was released in 1987, most hip-hop songs had adopted a structure of 16-bar verses in between choruses. “Timebomb,” however, was Chuck D’s old school tour de force, with 66 consecutive bars and no hook.

“Security of the First World”

Public Enemy never scored a Top Ten single, but they influenced a lot of popular music. “Security of the First World,” a brief instrumental from 1988’s It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, became the basis of a No. 1 pop hit when Lenny Kravitz sampled it for Madonna’s 1990 single “Justify My Love.”

“Move!”

Bronx rapper Sister Souljah replaced Professor Griff as Public Enemy’s ‘Minister of Information’ and made her on-record debut on “Move!” from Apocalypse 91… The Enemy Strikes Black. A year later, Sister Souljah released a solo album, and her comments to the Washington Post about the L.A. riots became a flashpoint of controversy during Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign.

Weight loss coach shares 5 carbs for easy fat loss, saying, ‘Carbs are not the enemy…’

Carbs often take up a fair share of the blame for weight gain. Carbs, despite being an essential macronutrient, are usually villainised to the point of being completely eliminated from the diet. But the reality is much more nuanced, and you don’t need to impose a blanket ban on carbs.

You can lose weight with carbs too! Find out how. (Representative Image: Pexel)

Melissa, a weight loss coach, shared in a September 9 post, debunking the misconception of carbs being the enemy. She explained, “Carbs are not the enemy. I have a client who’s 75 lbs down and eats carbs daily because she’s in a calorie deficit.”

She drew attention to complex carbs’ ability to keep you full for a long time, reducing the chances of derailing calorie-deficit plans by giving in to hunger pangs.

Melissa shared these 6 carbs which help you with weight loss:

1. Oats

First up is oats. The weight loss coach highlighted it’s a good source of soluble fibre, which in turn slows digestion and keeps you full for longer. This also helps to lower hunger pangs, control appetite and reduce snacking urges.

Melissa too, has this carb in her diet. She added, “I make overnight oats or add protein powder to my quick oatmeal in the morning!”

2. Whole-grain bread

Bread is a common source of carbs, but which one you have makes a big difference. Melissa recommended whole-grain bread as it is high in fibre and contains vitamins, iron, magnesium and antioxidants. Often, other types of breads may not have these nutrients. The weight loss coach shared that she often included whole-grain bread in her diet, either as toast with eggs or in her lunch sandwich

3. Non-starchy vegetables

Veggies may not often pop up in mind when you think of calories, but vegetables also contain carbs. According to Melissa, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, kale, zucchini, bell peppers, and asparagus are some of the options which are low in calories but high in fibre and water. She added, “They fill you up! Also, helps regulate blood sugar and reduce cravings.” For the weight loss coach, half of the plate is occupied by non-starchy veggies.

4. Fruit

Fruits also contain carbs. Melissa revealed that they are naturally sweet, rich in fibre and contain antioxidants. She eats fruit as a snack or with nut butter or Greek yoghurt.

5. Sweet potatoes

The sweeter counterpart of potatoes is on this list, as Melissa highlighted its high fibre content, which keeps hunger at bay. She called it versatile, as it can easily fit in for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

6. Brown, basmati or jasmine rice

Instead of cutting out rice completely, the weight loss coach recommended healthier alternatives like brown, basmati, or jasmine rice, as they are gluten-free and provide a steady source of glucose. For meal planning, she shared that she often mixes rice with cauliflower to create a satisfying, filling meal.

Joel Murray as Commander Devlin, Jason Beghe as Hank Voight —

‘Chicago P.D.’ Boss, Star Talk Voight’s New Enemy in Devlin, Happiness for Burzek, and More

by jummy84 October 2, 2025
written by jummy84

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for the Chicago P.D. Season 13 premiere, “Consequences.”]

The title of the Chicago P.D. Season 13 premiere certainly is apt, with Intelligence paying the consequences of last season. The unit has been disbanded, Voight’s (Jason Beghe) working Rapid Response — which means he should only be responding to crimes in progress — Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) don’t have badges, and Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) and Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) are assigned elsewhere. But the team still manages to come together in the first episode.

When Voight catches a shooting, frustrated with Commander Devlin (Joel Murray) from Internal Affairs dragging his feet on reactivating his unit, he works the case anyway, eventually bumping into ATF’s Imani (Arienne Mandi) while she’s undercover. Voight calls in Burgess, who ends up saving Imani’s life, then Ruzek and Atwater join Voight and Imani in working the rest of the case.

By episode’s end, Intelligence is back up and running, everyone has their badges back, and Imani is the newest member. But to make that happen, Voight made an enemy out of Devlin, who was prepared to keep Intelligence shut down for good: Some of the guns that were part of the case traced back to the CPD, a batch that Internal Affairs never reported stolen. It would be embarrassing should that come out now, Voight points out.

Below, showrunner Gwen Sigan and star Jason Beghe unpack the premiere and tease what’s ahead for Voight and Devlin, Burgess and Ruzek, and more.

Voight gets his unit reinstated, but it feels like his way of doing so could have made an enemy out of Devlin. Is that the case? What’s coming up with that dynamic? It feels like it has to be so contentious after that.

Jason Beghe: Yeah, I don’t think that Devlin is thrilled. I don’t think he feels like “Voight’s my favorite guy on the planet.” He’s an alpha male in his own way, and he just got alpha’ed. So, I think that he is going to be determined to regain the upper hand.

Gwen, what can you preview about that?

Gwen Sigan: Yeah, I think he’s really — Devlin’s an interesting character because I think he’s very different than a lot of our bosses have been before. He’s a pretty folksy sort of guy. He’s a little more plainspoken. He’s quieter, softer. He’s come up from behind a desk; he hasn’t been working on the streets, and so his motivations are very different than Voight’s. I think he cares a lot about how he ends this job with as many friends as he can have at the end of this thing and with a full pension. So, having an enemy like that is very different for Voight. I think this guy is a little more quiet and sort of unassuming, and so it’ll be interesting to see how he reacts and then what he does about it and how that differs from what we’ve seen in the past.

Burgess and Ruzek start the season off happy. Things seem to be going great for them, but knowing the show, how soon before you start to challenge either or both of them?

Sigan: No. They’re happy. They’re happy. I swear they’re happy. Yeah, I mean, definitely we need conflict, so we’re going to have some conflict, but I would say the conflict that they end up dealing with through this season is not with each other. It’s really with situations that are normal life situations that I think everyone can relate to, but now they’re dealing with them together, and maybe they’re both bringing in different things to those decisions, their own perspective and backgrounds, and so I think it becomes a lot more about their family as opposed to just their relationship with one another. They also have a lot of things that come up through the job, and then how they deal with that together. So, they’re in a good spot, but life will keep going, and they’ll still have to go through some things

Voight tells Imani he’ll give her a long leash. Why is he willing to do so so soon after meeting her?

Beghe: I think there’s just a real natural comfort and also an understanding of who she is, and I think subconsciously, probably, he understands that she’s a good foil for him in that she’s, in a sense, a mirror image of him. So, it’s a good way for him to discover himself and do his job as a man and as an officer better.

Elizabeth Sisson/NBC

And what are we going to see from her with that long leash? That can mean problems — you have to factor in what’s going on with Devlin, all of that.

Sigan: Yeah, exactly. I think that the nice thing about the pair of them [is] because they share some instincts and because they share a style of policing, there’s a lot of good that can come from that, and then there’s a lot of leading each other astray that can come from it. So, we see a bit of both of that. We see through how their relationship evolves this season, the two of them growing, which I think has been really lovely to see. And yeah, it’s fun. It’s going to be a fun ride.

One of my favorite dynamics on the show is between Platt and Voight. Are we going to see a storyline for Platt where Voight’s there for her?

Beghe: That would be nice.

Sigan: We have something cooking, but yeah, we’ll have to wait and see. But yes, I would love to see that and more Platt is always good.

Beghe: Yep.

The rap group showcased a medley of hits as the late-night show headed to Brooklyn

Public Enemy appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform a medley of “Don’t Believe the Hype,” “The Hits Just Keep on Comin’,” and “Fight the Power.”

As the rap group took the stage at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, where Jimmy Kimmel is hosting a week of shows, the musicians gave a nod to the host’s recent struggle with the FCC and Donald Trump.

Flavor Flav shouted, “Hey yo Jimmy Kimmel, we are Public Enemy and I just want you to know that Public Enemy always got ya back.” He then turned around to display the words “Fight the Power” on his jacket before launching into 1988 hit “Don’t Believe the Hype.” The group concluded their medley with “Fight the Power,” originally written for Spike Lee’s 1989 film Do the Right Thing.

Public Enemy’s most recent LP, Black Sky Over the Projects: Apartment 2025, dropped in June. The group released it as a surprise via Bandcamp. “This album is a give back to all of our fans with gratitude and appreciation,” Chuck D said of the effort. Flavor Flav added, “We’re bringing our beats to the world on this tour and with this album. So if you can’t get yourself to the stadiums and the festivals, then these new tracks are for you to get down to at home.”

Public Enemy has been touring throughout the summer and fall, with a few more dates scheduled. The band will perform at Reggae Rise Up in Las Vegas on Oct. 4 and Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California, on Nov. 14.
