Google Spurns Disney Request to YouTube TV Restore ABC on Election Night

by jummy84 November 4, 2025

The war of words between Disney and Google continues — on the fourth day of the blackout of ESPN, ABC and other Disney networks on YouTube TV amid a fee dispute.

On Monday, Disney asked Google to offer ABC to YouTube TV customers on Tuesday, Nov. 3, to bring them Election Night coverage.

Google said no — and suggested instead that Disney allow YouTube TV to bring ABC and ESPN back on the air as the two sides hash out a new agreement, because those are ‘the channels that people want.”

“We agree that the right priority here is to give customers what they want. As you know from the many content disputes you’ve been part of, customers don’t want companies fighting and content blackouts. But unfortunately, your proposal would permit us to return Disney’s ABC stations only for a day and will cause customer confusion among those who may briefly see ABC on YouTube TV only to lose it again shortly after,” Google said in its response.

Google noted that “There are plenty of other options for customers – election news information is very widely available across other broadcast stations and news networks on YouTube TV, as well as on the main YouTube service, for free. In fact, on the last two U.S. election days, the vast majority of tuned in YouTube TV subscribers chose not to watch ABC.”

The statement continued, “Publicly resorting to the same tactic that Disney relied on in past disputes fails to acknowledge the distinction between YouTube and other distribution platforms. As you know, Disney can continue to livestream news information on the ABC News YouTube page, which has 19.1 million subscribers, and its ABC local stations can also do so on their YouTube pages.

“To truly achieve what is best for our mutual customers, we propose immediately restoring the Disney channels that our customers watch: ABC and the ESPN networks, while we continue to negotiate. Those are the channels that people want,” Google’s statement concluded.

If you agree with our proposal and give us approval, we can get our operational teams together and get these channels live in hours. Let us know how you’d like to proceed.

Disney said it has sent a proposal to Google for a YouTube TV deal renewal and is awaiting a response.

Zohran Mamdani appears at PinkPantheress show in Brooklyn ahead of New York mayoral election

Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani appeared during PinkPantheress’ Brooklyn show just days before the mayoral election.

The left-wing candidate will be on the ballot on November 4 to be the new Mayor of New York City, in the contest to replace the outgoing Democrat Eric Adams, and just 10 days before the election, he popped up at the PinkPantheress concert to urge people to get out their vote.

On Friday night (October 24), the singer and musician kicked off her ‘An Evening With PinkPantheress’ North American tour with a show at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, and during a performance of ‘True Romance’ from her 2023 debut album ‘Heaven Knows’, the video backdrop behind her had a surprise for fans.

A pair of hands appeared on the screen, with “Our Time Has Come” and “Vote Nov. 4” written on the two palms. As the camera pulled back, it revealed Mamdani, who was greeted with loud cheers from the crowd.

Mamdani also popped up during Lucy Dacus’ show at All Things Go in New York last month. “This is what our city should feel like,” he told the crowd. “It should be a city where trans New Yorkers are cherished, a city where our queer neighbours are celebrated, and a city where each and every New Yorker can be the fullest version of themselves. And it has to be a city that all of us can afford.”

As for PinkPantheress, her latest studio album was ‘Fancy That’, which was released in May and later nominated for this year’s Mercury Prize. The album scored a four-star review from NME, with Kyann-Sian Williams writing: “With ‘Fancy That’, PinkPantheress is kicking down the door to her next chapter – one that promises to be more adventurous than ever. She’s no longer content with being the elusive girl behind the screen, proving she can shapeshift, push boundaries and still keep us hooked – all in under 20 minutes.”

The star-studded remix album ‘Fancy Some More?’ arrived this month, featuring the likes of SEVENTEEN, JADE, Kylie Minogue, Sugababes and Zara Larsson. NME awarded that one three stars, noting: “’Fancy Some More?’ is ambitious and kaleidoscopic, packed with heavyweight collaborators and wildly inventive reinterpretations, but it rarely recaptures the tight, unruly charm of ‘Fancy That’.”

Last month, NME attended PinkPantheress’ show at the O2 Academy Brixton and rated the gig four stars: “By the end, when the cast bowed and hugged onstage, the night felt less like a polished pop spectacle and more like a madcap show-and-tell with a superstar host. It may not have reinvented the live experience, but it proved PinkPantheress’ real gift: she knows how to turn a massive venue into something intimate, funny and unhinged.”

Election to take place for new Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events

Election to take place for new Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events

The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events (APPG) has announced that an Extraordinary General Meeting will take place in Parliament on 22nd October 2025 to elect a new Chair of the APPG. The election follows the resignation of current Chair, Shaun Davies MP, as a result of him being appointed as Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Secretary of State for Defence. Parliamentary rules prevent a member of the Government from chairing an APPG.

Gill German MP, Member of Parliament for Clwyd North, has been nominated as Chair Elect of the APPG, with Martin Rhodes MP, Member of Parliament for Glasgow North, stepping into the role of Vice Chair.

As well as representing Clwyd North, Gill German serves as a member of the Welsh Affairs Select Committee, bringing valuable insight and experience to the APPG for Events. If elected, her appointment will strengthen the Group’s work to ensure the continued recognition and support of the UK’s events sector across Parliament and Westminster.

A spokesperson for the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events said: “We look forward to welcoming our Parliamentary Members to the Extraordinary General Meeting on 22nd October, and to electing a new Chair to ensure that the important work of the APPG continues and that we work in partnership with the events sector to strengthen the industry’s voice in Parliament and across Westminster.

In addition to 34 Parliamentary Members, the APPG also now has 10 Corporate Members, including beam, Raccoon Media Group, Togather, Event Hire Association, SEC, Association of Events Venues,, Experience Oxfordshire Venues, Meetings Industry Association, Manchester Central and Telford International Centre.

PR & Communications agency Davies Tanner, through its The Business of Events Think Tank and Advocacy Network, manages the APPG for Events and acts as a Special Advisor to the group.
