Ralph Edwards Covers Ed Sheeran on ‘The Voice’ Knockouts

When Michael Bublé suggested that “Wreck-It” Ralph Edwards could smash the competition in this 28th season of The Voice, he was onto something.

Edwards had just finished an impressive rendition of Teddy Swims’ “I Lose Control” in his Battle with Jerrell Melton, when Bublé let the love flow.

The Fresno, California could “go far on the show,” he remarked.

There’s apparently no stopping Edwards, as he shifted gears from that final round of Battles on Monday night, Oct. 27, and leapt into the first wave of Knockouts.

Next up, the 30-year-old Team Snoop singer went for the heartstrings with a cover of Ed Sheeran’s “Dive.” Edwards, who proposed to his partner after his Blind Audition, didn’t have any trouble finding the emotional buttons.

“Wow, Ralph,” coach Niall Horan enthused. “The stuff that you were doing. I actually didn’t recognize it as your voice. It was so different than what we’ve heard. You could easily win this show, dude.”

Reba McEntire weighted in. “Wow. What a voice,” the coach and country star remarked. “It comes from your toenails. It’s just incredible.”

Bublé knows he’s looking at, and hearing, the real deal. “You have that grit in your voice, but man, you sort of saved it. You let us hear the sweetness and the softness,” the Canadian king of Christmas remarked. “It looked easy for you, dude.”

Snoop Dogg had a call to make. Edwards or Kenny Iko?

There could be only one. The rap legend tapped Edwards, while Iko goes home. “I think Ralph has the ‘it’ factor,” Snoop noted. “The ‘it’ factor is that he could actually win it, this competition. Knockout performances are really the groundbreaking, award-worthy, top of the line, performing at his highest level.”

Earlier, Snoop welcomed Zac Brown to mentor his team before the Knockouts. “My team is smoking,” Snoop remarked, with some authority.

The Knockout episodes will air every Monday on NBC until Nov. 24. Then, the Playoffs will beam out on Monday, Dec. 1 and Monday, Dec. 8 on NBC, with the Season 28 Live Finale set to spread over the two nights of Dec. 15 and 16. Episodes stream the following day on Peacock.

Rick Edwards says fatherhood has changed his presenting work for ever

This article first appeared in Radio Times magazine.

What’s the view from your sofa?

It’s a fireplace that I think I like, but I’m not completely sure about. It’s very ornate, with a wooden surround that incorporates a mirror above it. It probably dates from, and hasn’t been changed since, the 1920s. Then there’s the TV, which is small and probably temporary, and keeps tilting backwards because I mounted the little feet on it badly.

Sounds like you need a TV upgrade!

We left the TV that we loved in our old house because it was wall-mounted, was perfect in the space and it felt like a nice thing to do, to leave it for the next people. My wife Emer [Kenny, Karen Pirie writer and actor] and I really regret that now.

You began your career as a model — when did you realise you’re handsome?

I was a cute kid, I think, and then, from 10 to 16, which is the worst age for this to be the case, I was not a good-looking boy. At all. I wonder if, in those formative years, it was character-building. Then, around 17 or 18, the proportions of my face sort of settled down, and from that point, it’s been fine. It’s weird to go from being not-good-looking to, a couple of years later, getting scouted for modelling work. I did it when I was at university and just after. That was odd. I didn’t like it one bit. Aside from the models, who seemed fine, it’s an industry of a lot of not very nice people. I found it a bit grubby.

What’s the best TV programme you’ve watched recently?

Your Friends & Neighbours on Apple TV starring Jon Hamm. He’s great – the whole cast is good – and it has some quite interesting things to say about family. As a fairly new father, with anything that says anything at all about family and fatherhood, I am quite likely to cry.

How do you juggle family life and, among other things, 5 Live Breakfast?

It’s tricky, because both Emer and I work and I’m very conscious of ensuring that she still has all the time she needs to work. Trying to dovetail it all together is a complicated jigsaw. One good thing is that, although the hours of my job are horrendous, doing a breakfast show does mean I’m home in the day and I get to spend time with my son then. You have to make it work.

How ready were you for fatherhood?

It was definitely something we wanted to do, and I thought and read about it quite a lot. But there is absolutely no way you can be prepared for what it’s like. There’s a depth of feeling you really can’t get your head around before you experience it. It’s crazy how it’s massively heightened my emotional response to almost everything, because you just see everything through a new lens of: “What is that going to mean for his future?”

How has it affected your work?

My emotions are much closer to the surface, so when we have people on who have distressing stories, I’m very affected by them. In my first year doing 5 Live Breakfast, Russia invaded Ukraine. In those first few weeks, we were speaking to Ukrainians and it was like nothing I’d ever done before. It was completely overwhelming and I really struggled. I’ve definitely cried on air, and I think the audience kind of get that because it’s quite a human response, but you don’t want someone crying all the time.

How’s your relationship with your dad?

My dad was and is terrific. The world I live in is probably quite different from the world he lived in and lives in, but I still go to him for advice, even when I know he won’t know much about the thing I’m asking him, because I’m still interested to get his take. He’s a safe person for me.

What has surprised you most about becoming a parent?

Sometimes, being a parent is hard, sometimes boring, sometimes annoying. But you don’t let those fleeting emotions override the core emotion, which is “this is brilliant, this is special”. What it has made me realise is how much my mum and dad must love me.

Perrie Edwards Pregnant, Expecting Baby with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

The Selling Sunset star, who welcomed her son Austin at the age of 15, has been candid about her and husband Romain Bonnet‘s fertility journey.

“We don’t know what the outcome is going to be,” she told E! News in September 2024. “We’re just kind of taking it as it as it comes. I’ve been super busy right now with the book and with the season and everything. So, I know nothing’s going to happen if I’m stressed out and if I’m running around.”

And in addition to undergoing a surgery to rectify a septate uterus (when the uterus is divided into two parts by a membrane), Mary said she and Romain aren’t rushing into any decisions—and are happy with their dog.

“We have our fur baby though, Thor. Romaine is obsessed with him,” added the real estate agent. “So if it doesn’t happen, he says he’s OK. He’s got his little fur baby, and he is just beyond obsessed. We’ll be OK. What’s meant to be will be.”

Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards says trauma left her “a wreck” after losing baby at 24 weeks

Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards has opened up about the trauma she felt after losing a baby at 24 weeks.

The singer spoke openly for the first time about the miscarriage during a recent appearance on Paul C Brunson’s podcast, We Need To Talk. In the interview, she revealed that she became pregnant just under a year after giving birth to her first child, Axel, in August 2021.

However, when she went for a scan at the five-month mark, she and her partner, former Liverpool footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, discovered that the baby’s heart had stopped beating.

Describing it as the “worst day of my life”, she said: “I remember sobbing. I couldn’t see straight. I was just distraught. We basically lost the baby at, like, 24 weeks.”

She added that the scan felt like “an out of body experience”, and the doctor’s words only began to sink in when Oxlade-Chamberlain “put his hand on my leg and went, ‘Oh no’.”

Her son, Axel, turns four this week, and in the podcast appearance, Edwards also revealed that he was a “rainbow baby” – a term used to describe a child born to a mother who recently lost another child to stillbirth, neonatal death or miscarriage.

“I had a miscarriage very early on with my first ever pregnancy,” she told the host. “I remember finding out I was pregnant [but] I started bleeding not long after, and I went to hospital and I had the scan and they were like, ‘There’s no baby.’

“I was like, ‘Oh, I’ve made this up. Maybe I got a false positive or something.’”

She added that after feeling a sense of confusion around the situation, she booked an appointment with her gynaecologist, who informed her that it was indeed a miscarriage.

The news, she said, was still distressing, but to a lesser extent than the second miscarriage as it came early on during the pregnancy.

“I think because it was so early, I was like, ‘Oh, that’s sad.’ But I think when you’re fully carrying and you’re 24 weeks and you’ve planned out their room and all these things, it’s really hard,” she shared. “I’ve never spoken about it before because I ended up a wreck, and nobody knows other than immediate friends and family.”

Also in the interview, the singer revealed that she had found comfort from Myleene Klass, who was awarded an MBE for her long-running work to increase awareness about miscarriages.

She recalled hearing Klass once say that “the baby stays with” the mother after a miscarriage, and finding the statement “magical” and comforting. “I was like, ‘If I’m blessed enough to have another baby in the future, it makes me feel that they’re still a part of it in some way’.”

As highlighted by BBC, one in five pregnancies in the UK end in miscarriage, and there are approximately 2,000 terminations following a prenatal screening every year.

In 2024, the Department of Health and Social Care announced a series of new measures to provide more awareness, care and support for those who suffer the loss of an unborn child.
