“I want you to feel safe here. I don’t know what I’d do without you.” Lionsgate has debuted a second trailer for the sneaky thriller movie titled The Housemaid, the second feature arriving this year made by director filmmaker Paul Feig (following Another Simple Favor in the summer). This one hits theaters in December – as counter-programming opening opposite of Avatar: Fire and Ash. A bit of holiday debauchery. Based on the first book in the novel series written by Freida McFadden. The Housemaid stars Sydney Sweeney as Millie Calloway, a young woman with a troubled past who takes on a job as a live-in housemaid for a wealthy family, however, their seemingly perfect life unravels when she discovers their household hides dark secrets beneath the surface. Also stars Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, Michele Morrone, & Elizabeth Perkins. Watching this trailer it seems pretty obvious what is going on, the beef between these two, just not sure how it’ll all play out. What a twisted trailer! This will definitely get some people’s attention. Watch out.

Here’s the second official trailer (+ posters) for Paul Feig’s movie The Housemaid, direct from YouTube:

You can rewatch the first official trailer for Paul Feig’s The Housemaid movie right here for more footage.

The Housemaid plunges audiences into a twisted world where perfection is an illusion, and nothing is as it seems. Trying to escape her past, Millie (Sydney Sweeney) accepts a job as a live-in housemaid for the wealthy Nina (Amanda Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Brandon Sklenar). But what begins as a dream job quickly unravels into something far more dangerous – a sexy, seductive game of secrets, scandal, and power. Behind the Winchesters’ closed doors lies a world of shocking twists that will leave you guessing until the very end. The Housemaid directed by American filmmaker Paul Feig, director of the films I Am David, Unaccompanied Minors, Bridesmaids, The Heat, Spy, Ghostbusters,, Last Christmas, The School for Good and Evil, Jackpot!, plus A Simple Favor and Another Simple Favor previously. The screenplay is written by Rebecca Sonnenshine; adapted from the novel of the same name by Freida McFadden. Lionsgate opens Paul Feig’s The Housemaid in theaters nationwide starting on December 19th, 2025 later this year.

It’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month — This Is My Story From Survival To Safe Horizon

by jummy84 October 28, 2025
written by jummy84

Warning: This story contains graphic details of domestic violence.

I will never forget the night that finally made me leave. My ex-partner and I were at an event with friends. Everything seemed fine until he — as he often did — switched from affectionate to enraged without warning. Throughout the night, he sent me cryptic texts: “I’m watching you. You’ll see what happens when we get home.”

The venue was dark and crowded, which allowed him to hide in the shadows. When he finally appeared, I was already in tears. I told him I was done. He grabbed me so tightly I could barely breathe, whispering, “You’ll never leave me.” When I tried to escape, he threw me to the ground and began kicking me—my face, my stomach, my back. I remember praying, “God, please help me get through this.” A friend eventually pulled him off me, and another rushed me outside.

That night, I ran to my sister’s apartment. My best friend joined us, and together they convinced me to call my mother. I didn’t want to; I had been hiding so much from my family, and I knew calling meant going to the hospital and filing a report. I also feared what my ex had always threatened: “If you send me to jail, I’ll kill myself.”

When my mom saw my bruised face over FaceTime, she broke down. At the hospital, I was surrounded by police officers and doctors, forced to retell the story again and again. Even then, I tried to protect him—until I learned he and his mother lied to the police, saying I’d fallen down stairs. That betrayal broke something in me. I told the truth. I filed for a restraining order, terrified but determined to protect myself.

When I met him, I was in a vulnerable place and searching for love, something I think now that he sensed. The control and manipulation started subtly—name-calling, jealousy, isolation. I was shocked, yes, but I took it because I convinced myself that he loved me. Then the emotional abuse became physical. I was constantly walking on eggshells, terrified of his next outburst. He would punch walls, throw objects, and then apologize, promising he’d never hurt me again. Like so many survivors, I stayed, believing he could change. I was in a constant state of hope—hope that the man I first met would return, hope that things would go back to “normal.” However, the truth is that there was never anything normal about it.

Domestic violence is not simply isolated or personal; it’s cultural, systemic, and global. It crosses every boundary: race, class, gender, and age.

The abuse only escalated from there. Over time, I became someone I didn’t recognize—isolated, anxious, and ashamed. He would push me against walls, crack drywall, and then threaten to harm himself to pull me back in. I remember breaking down locked doors to stop him from self-harming. Every time I thought of leaving, he’d promise to change—or promise to die.

After that final night, something inside me broke open. I started therapy and eventually found Safe Horizon through friends and family who told me about the work they do. It was the first time I felt truly ready to speak out.

I learned that my story was not unique, and that’s what makes it so devastating. Domestic violence is not simply isolated or personal; it’s cultural, systemic, and global. It crosses every boundary: race, class, gender, and age. The tactics abusers use are eerily similar: isolation, intimidation, emotional manipulation, and control.

Safe Horizon, the largest victim service nonprofit in the U.S., provides critical resources for survivors of abuse and violent crime. What drew me to them was their inclusive approach—they support survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, sex trafficking, and more. Their Streetwork Project helps young people experiencing homelessness due to abuse, offering food, shelter, medical care, and compassion without judgment. They reach survivors wherever they are, meeting them with dignity and safety.

Too often, young women—especially Black women—don’t feel safe seeking help. We’re told to stay quiet, that no one will believe us, that leaving is pointless. And the question survivors hear most—“Why didn’t you just leave?”—is one of the most harmful. As FKA Twigs bravely shared when speaking about her own experience, that question blames the survivor instead of the perpetrator. Leaving isn’t simple—it’s dangerous. It’s layered with fear, shame, financial dependency, and psychological manipulation. Even after leaving, survivors face systemic challenges: renewing restraining orders, reliving trauma in court, and constantly looking over our shoulders.

Through Safe Horizon, I found healing, advocacy, and community. The organization’s leaders like Lisa A. O’Connor and Liz Roberts, create true safety by approaching survivors with empathy, patience, and emotional intelligence. Even small gestures—asking “Do you welcome hugs?”—remind survivors that we have autonomy again.

One of the most profound parts of my healing has been realizing that survival doesn’t mean the pain disappears. It means transforming it. As author and grief expert David Kessler wrote, I learned to turn my “pain into purpose”. I use my voice now to help others recognize the signs of abuse before it’s too late. Love should never make you smaller. Real love doesn’t silence, it protects and uplifts.

If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, reach out to Safe Horizon at 1-800-621-HOPE (4673) or visit safehorizon.org. There is a way out, and there are people here to help you find it.

It’s a Celebration! Karlie Redd’s Burglary Case Dismissed on the Same Day She Honors Domestic Abuse Survivors at Her First Annual Courageous Awards!

Reality TV star and serial entrepreneur Karlie Redd celebrates a major legal victory as the burglary charges against her are dismissed, maintaining her innocence.

Her attorney Steve Sadow confirmed the news on Oct. 22, sharing the DeKalb County order stating the case would not be prosecuted. “The bogus case against my client, Karlie Redd (Lewis), one of the stars of Love & Hip Hop Atlanta, has been dismissed!” Sadow wrote.

Redd, whose legal name is Karlie Lewis, was arrested in April 2025 for allegedly entering the home of her estranged husband Teleau Belton without permission and taking personal items before posting bond. The order, signed by Judge LaTisha Dear Jackson, stated: “While probable cause exists, the State is unable to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.”

The dismissal marks a win for Redd after an intense divorce battle–Early this year, Redd’s ex-husband was charged in Fulton County with family violence battery against her, to which her lawyer, Sadow said in a previous disclosure that he “was very confident that Karlie’s case will be resolved favorably.”

Karlie shared an official statement to The Jasmine Brand:

“I was never guilty of the allegations made against me. These claims were untrue, and I was unfairly targeted by false statements made by my ex-husband. The dismissal of all charges confirms the truth. I’m thankful for my legal team, my family, my supporters, and everyone who stood by me. My focus now is on continuing my work, advocating for survivors, and moving forward with strength and grace.”

On the same day her case was dismissed, Karlie and Yandy Smith hosted The First Annual Courageous Awards at Atlanta City Hall — honoring domestic abuse survivors. ? Presented by Karlie Redd’s Big Heart Foundation with partners TLJ Agency, Tierra’s Butterflies, Think About It Inc., Yelle Skin Care & Sheen Magazine, the event celebrated resilience and advocacy. Among the honorees, Maxine Mitchell received a $10K scholarship from Tiara’s Butterflies Foundation for her courage and empowerment.

Memphis Bleek Says The Industry Needs To Forgive Chris Brown For Rihanna Domestic V*olence Incident

Memphis Bleek wants Chris Brown to finally be let off the hook for his infamous domestic v*olence incident involving Rihanna.

During a recent chat with Shannon Sharpe, Memphis said people continue to reference the situation even though both parties have moved on.

“If we live in a country that forgives then they need to forget. Let that man live. That’s the wack part about the industry that I don’t like. I feel like in our culture, they hold us to a higher standard than anyone else,” he shared.

Is he speaking facts?

Carmen Maura Stars in Moroccan Domestic Drama

by jummy84 September 14, 2025
written by jummy84

“Calle Malaga” opens with title cards explaining to the audience the history of Tangier’s Spanish population: How, as Spain fell to fascism under Francisco Franco’s rule in the 1930s people fled to the Northwest Moroccan city, and a community of Spanish speakers blossomed and grew over the decades. It’s an overly didactic touch that conveys little beyond what Carmen Maura’s performance as Maria, an elderly woman living alone in Tangier, already tells the audience.

Making her way through the streets of her neighborhood, shopping for groceries and warmly greeting her neighbors, Maura makes it obvious that Maria adores her quiet, content life in this city where she grew up. And, when Maria’s daughter Clara (Marta Etura) arrives to drop a bombshell — that she needs to sell the family home, and Maria must either come with her to Madrid or live the remainder of her life in a nursing community — the way Maura’s face flashes from devastation and horror to anger and steel makes it all too clear how hard she’ll fight to maintain this life.

Driver's Ed

The third feature of director Maryam Touzani, “Calle Malaga” strikes chords similar to her acclaimed sophomore feature “The Blue Caftan” in its exploration of the romantic, domestic life of someone well past middle-age. Touzani based the character of Maria in part on her own Spanish grandmother, and she gives Maura — a great actress best known to American audiences for her work in Pedro Almodóvar movies like “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown” and “Volver” — a wonderful part to embody. Maria is a wonderfully textured character, at turns flinty and cold and vivacious and funny, and Maura is adept at embodying all sides to this woman. However, the movie around her proves a lot less interesting than it’s main character. Frequently safe and only skimming the surface of the complicated emotions its premise raises, “Calle Malaga” is likable but never quite interesting.

Warmly shot with sun-draped lenses by Virginie Surdej and soundtracked by an overbearingly sentimental score by Freya Arde, “Calle Malaga” introduces the threat on Maria’s house as a tragedy before quickly pivoting to a more cheery, sentimental story, one in which the woman finds community and even love through the hardship. Crafty and resistant, Maria agrees to go to the retirement center and let Clara put the house on the market and return to her family in Madrid. With her daughter off her back, she fakes a trip to see her to leave the center and heads back to squat in her unoccupied former home, eventually teaming up with a young neighbor to host football-viewing parties in the space as a way to scrounge up money. It also helps her buy back her old furniture from handsome antiques dealer Abslam (Ahmed Boulane), with whom she sparks a tentative romance.

The romantic subplot proves the most charming thread “Calle Malaga” has to offer, thanks to Maura and Boulane’s performances. There’s a wistful sense of longing between them even before things turn explicitly romantic, and for a relatively tame and breezy film it does get genuinely hot in its depiction of their relationship. In other areas, however, the script from Touzani and her husband and producer Nabil Ayouch falters in the way it fills out the people surrounding Maria. Her best friend Josefena (María Alfonsa Rosso), a nun who has taken a vow of silence, is more a device through which Maria can spew her feelings and inner thoughts than a fully-formed person. Occasionally their interactions work to funny effect, like when she extolls Abslam’s performance in bed to her silent friend, but the film stumbles when it tries to build real emotional stakes around their bond.

Faring even worse is Clara, thinly rendered as an ungrateful child and an obstacle for her mother. Although she’s introduced with very valid reasons for selling the apartment — she just went through a divorce, she’s struggling financially, she needs the money to buy a new home for her kids — “Calle Malaga” has little interest in giving her real interiority or taking her concerns seriously. Her strained relationship with her mother has little nuance, and the unsatisfying, abrupt ending that leaves the two still at odds proves curiously sour for an otherwise gentle movie.

Lack of nuance plagues “Calle Malaga” in general, and it’s particularly apparent in how thin the neighborhood Maria loves so dearly actually is on screen. The cobblestone step streets are pleasing on the eye, but the people who inhabit this community and rally to help Maria don’t have much character to speak of. There’s little sense of what her life in this city, as a Spanish woman around mostly Moroccans, looks like. Despite the film’s introductory text, most of “Calle Malaga” could happen in any city in the world. Without Maura’s performance, there’d be no specificity to speak of.

Grade: C+

“Calle Malaga” premiered at the Venice Film Festival. It is currently seeking U.S. distribution.

Donald Trump Dangerously Says Domestic Violence Isn’t A Real Crime

by jummy84 September 9, 2025
written by jummy84

On Monday (Sep. 8), Donald Trump gave a speech at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., where he shared his frustrations with local crime statistics still including incidents of domestic violence.

Trump bragged that his deployment of federal troops to the capital had transformed Washington from “the worst, the most violent city” into “a totally safe zone.” In his explanation, he claimed that the city was crime-free until domestic disputes were factored in.

“There’s no crime. They said crime is down 87 percent — no, no, no, it’s more than 87 percent, [it’s] virtually nothing,” he told the crowd. “Much lesser things, things that take place in the home, they call crime, you know — they’ll do anything they can to find something. If a man has a little fight with the wife, they say, ‘This was a crime, see,’ so now I can’t claim 100 percent. But we are a safe city.”

It isn’t surprising that Trump feels that way about DV cases, given his own history. Reportedly, Trump has had more than a dozen women accusing him of harassment, abuse, or sexual assault over the years — allegations he’s consistently denied.

Trump’s remarks came amid a federal appeals court upholding an $83 million defamation judgment awarded to writer E. Jean Carroll, who accused Trump of sexually assaulting her in the 1990s. That ruling follows a 2023 verdict finding Trump liable for sexually abusing Carroll, as well as last year’s conviction on 34 felony counts tied to falsifying business records to cover up hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 campaign.

Stormy Daniels (Stephanie Clifford) exits the United States District Court Southern District of New York for a hearing related to Michael Cohen, President Trump’s longtime personal attorney and confidante, April 16, 2018 in New York City.

Drew Angerer/Getty Images

A 2018 report from Mother Jones revealed how Trump allegedly engaged in an affair with Daniels (real name Stephanie Clifford) in 2006 and asked her to spank him with a copy of Forbes magazine. The issue was a 2006 cover of himself and children.

Reportedly, Democratic political consultant Andrea Dubé and others who worked with Daniels in 2009 backed up her claims. They recalled that “one time he made her sit with him for three hours watching Shark Week.”
